em>Anything and anyone you want to talk about

I need athlete of the week suggestions, games you say HAVE to be covered next week, and while you're at it, how about some breaking news. Are they ever going to fill the La Puente and Wilson head football coaching positions? What football coach would you like me run down next week for a Q&A, and what kind of burning questions need to be answered. Don't know if they will answer, but we can ask.

Comments
Now we are getting somewhere. Your son was passed over for Ryne huh? I'm the petty one? Take a hard look in the mirror sir, you have quite a ways to go before you can launch that stone. As for Josh, I'm sure he will be a good player because he has tons of ability, but as I stated before, ability doesn't replace hard work. Morrison must a done a real number on you or your kid, I haven't read any blogs as specific and intentional as yours. Well, just sit back and wait for the second act, guess we will all find out just what kind of kid you really have. As you put it, this "real staff" should be able to judge your kid the correct way right? LOL! I'll wait for the stat sheet to come out after the first half of the season. Do you get any stats for passing out water?

say a prayer for yourself you hypocrite. you come on here and bash Dominguez and his son Josh when neither of them had anything to do with these comments. Typical of Damien bloggers to eat their own and then "go to church or across the border" and seek absolution. Thanks for proving my point tough guy. What's your name? Next time you're talking to Rene make sure and say a couple of Our Fathers and Hail Marys seeing as you bash innocent people because you're just a small man with hate in your heart. Josh is twice the football and baseball player Ryne is and next year Gano's staff will agree ! Eat shizzt little man.

rgd2626,
You talk about the team but they are all words. If the team came first Gano wouldn't be making those back office deals at Denny's on a Sunday at 8:00 p.m. When I talked about the quarterback situation, yes that was the year we won the CIF title. We won it on the four year Los Altos quarterback not Gano's transfer junior quarterback. If you look back at those games it was two different teams with the two quarterbacks. Everyone questioned even the media why Gano was leaving that junior quarterback in during the first half. He didn't expect there to be that much of a difference in the two quarterbacks. But he made the deal, I will give him that he didn't back down on the deal. He is a man of his word.
Once Gano brings in those recruits and they all start over the returning players those Damien parents aren’t going to sit back like the LA parents did. When that Damien kid who started as a junior is sitting as a senior because Gano recruited a sophomore to take his position, let’s see how the Damien parents react. Don't even say it isn't going to happen; I talked to one of those kids that Gano is attempting to get to make the move. That kid is guaranteed a starting spot as a sophomore on the varsity team next year at Damien.

Unforgiveable,
So again...who is your kid? Your name, your qualification for being judge and juror? L.A.U...sad little man. I think I know exactly who you are Dominguez? From the way you write, it has to be you. I have spoken to you on a number of occasions and this has to be you. If not, then your no better anyhow. Let's see, Morrison will be coaching COLLEGE ball, I think he's doing ok. Hopefully the Spartans will rebound this season and become a powerhouse. However, even if they do, parents like you will be waiting in the stands for the first sign of trouble to tear down the new coach. Actually, you will probably still blame Morrison. Your son may have played better if he had been humble enough to realize that hard work goes further than the daily bull his father fed him. Give it up, your time is over, let your son have his moment. Your tag line says it all "unforgiveable" is exactly what you are. Move on and try focusing your energy on something that doesn't involve Morrison, I'm sure your kid has. Good luck to you sir, I will make sure a prayer is said for you at this weeks mass.

"get it straight"....like most Damien kiss a$$es you never really stand a chance when confronted with facts. It's always an emotional knee jerk response instead of thinking clearly and objectively.
No one hates anyone. The man lost his dream job. Tell me what school in the area would hire him where Morrison wouldn't feel the job was beneath him?
And there in lies the rub with Morrison. He's just smarter and better than everyone else. Well maybe not seeing as he didn't see this coming.
Posted by: Unforgiveable | January 19, 2009 4:05 PM
get it straight, compare Gano's staff to Morrison's.
compare the staffs of the schools I mentioned and then I'll telll you my son's name
may your kissing ass days be numbered
damien is in for a rude awakening
no more buddy system favorites and big pocket donors with sons that blow but start
here comes the thunder my friend
so do you have any real knowledge of football or are you just another damien kiss ass who loves to protect and project from ignorance
answer the question
compare and contrast
just like in college

You forgot that other QB Tillis that never got the shot at QB after transfering to Los Altos from Amat.
Posted by: John Quezada | January 16, 2009 4:23 PM
I think you're both right. The best player plays-and a 3rd stringer on the worst Amat team in history can start at the most important position on the field at Los Altos. That should explain to all the difference in the general takent level (minus the occasional Cody, Harwell, etc) and level of competition.
Posted by: reality czech | January 16, 2009 12:52 PM
rgd2626,
That BA 3rd string quarterback last year was the best we had at LA. I don't think you want to go their. What about a few years before that when Gano brought over that kid from I think it was SH's as a junior and he was promised to start every game. While our senior (started as a Junior) quarterback only played the second half of the games. O thats right Gano did that to prepare the kid for the following year when he was going to be a senior. But I thought that's what JV was for, my mistake.

welcome back little buddy, we wondered how long it would take you to come back. only one thing, tell the truth to the damien people!! you said transfers allways start when they come over. your wrong, they only start when there the better player at there position.

Unforgiven, "Deserves 's got nothing to do with it" ,
You still haven't answered any questions. Who is your kid? Let's go through the list, you are either the father of that reciever that dropped every ball, the linebacker who didn't play much, or the up an coming junior that wasn't played on JV right? Your a joke. The staff is gone, why are you still so interested in slamming them, get over yourself and have fun with your lips attached to Gano. Or any other body part you prefer.
Posted by: get it straight | January 16, 2009 7:23 AM
STOP trying to get attention !! no one cares about DB...you are WASHED UP !! just stay in marching band !! for real dude , your coaches cant schedule any games, its up to youre AD and we all know he does not to play DR. and you know why !!
Posted by: Give It up foo.. | January 15, 2009 5:31 PM
Charter Oak
Los Altos (sorry Gano already did)
Glendora
Chino Hills
Bonita
San Dimas
Rosemead
Ayala
South Hills
Northview
Rowland
Bishop Amat
West Covina
Diamond Ranch
Los Altos (sorry Gano already did)
Name one coaching staff on that list that Damien's staff could replace or upgrade either individually or collectively.
Better yet name one school who would trade their head coach for Morrison.
Just one. And then I'll consider this matter closed.

Diamond Ranch-1 your a joker buddy! Diamond Ranch has ZERO pitching come on buddy can't win with no pitching. Put your money were your mouth is ask your coach to schedule a pre-season game, with your ZERO pitching. Diamond Bar will kick your butt that's why! You don't have any hitters that can hit our pitchers that's the funny part.

If your son plays on that team and you expect for him to get treated fairly by Gano and staff, you are going to have a rude awakening. Especially based on the rumors I am hearing over at LA. Gano is attempting to pull kids from the LA program to go to Damien. If these kids make the move they will be guaranteed a starting spot, that’s how Gano works. Recruits always start over returning players. So I hope your son isn't competing for one of those spots.
Best of luck
You going to need it

Unforgiven,
I think you are missing some points here. First off, who was your son that didn't play so we can expose the true reason for the distaste? Second, do you know these coaches that were on the staff? You know them well enough to judge them as a quality coach or not? You can speak of the record which was horrible, nobody is disputing that, however your continuously attacking morrison on here like you have a vendetta. Obviously these comments go deeper than you being a random fan or alumni, why not put out there your dirt since you seem so intent on magnifying this past seasons staff. I know all these coaches and have nothing but the best to say about each of them, and I am not a parent nor am I a coach. I have been around the program enough to realize there was a lot more going on in admin. than just poor coaching hires. Enough said on my part, hope your son has a great season and you get the "fair" shot you deserve.
Posted by: Get it straight | January 15, 2009 7:15 AM
morrison blew his dream job. he never upgraded his lower level coaches and made his coaching staff a revolving door of one incompetent after another ending this year with what is arguably the worst varsity coaching staff in the valley considering their division. no one needs to dispute this fact as few will land other varsity positions. unfortunately i hear gano is keeping a few to make nice with the cart guy. shedding tears for morrison is like shedding tears for all those homeowners who spent their home equity on grown up toys and acting like big shots and now find themselves upside down and facing foreclosure. fortunately or unfortunately, morrison got eactly what he deserved. like we all do. karma is a beeatch!

The Pico Dons are made up of mostly kids of Mexican or Latin heritage, tough as hell in elementry & junior high age but then highschool comes along & a funny thing happens... for the majority of kids, they don't grow as big as the Whites & Blacks, thats why El Rancho isn't what they use to be. In their heyday El Rancho had a mixture of White's and
kids of Mexican decent, today they are pretty much
Mexican heritage across the board and many of them were born in Mexico. No offense ment to anyone but thats the way it looks to me. I am of mostly Mexican heritage
so I'm not trying to be prejudice.
Posted by: Dan | January 14, 2009 6:00 PM
Face it Los Altos parents fans and football players. Gano set Felipe up for failier. plain and simple. With that he can now built a new legacy at Damien with kids that will transfer from Los Altos to Damien. Smart move and oh so premeditated.
Posted by: No Shock here | January 14, 2009 3:55 PM
about the youth,
How true that is, I was looking into the local youth programs. HLP's midget team made the playoffs. Then HLP, LP Warriors and Hacienda Heights Cougar Jr. Midget teams had a compined record of 4-18. I don't see very much talent to split up between four different high schools.
Posted by: Heights Parent | January 14, 2009 2:07 PM
FBFan,
I can give you a example of Augaliar inexperience. My son wanted to leave the program, Augilar didn't want him to leave so they talked it out and made arrangements. Not going into to much detail this arrangement was going to benefit the school, my son and other players it was a no lose situation for all parties involved. My son followed through with his end of the deal but Coach Augilar didn't follow through with his end. This deal had nothing to do with playing time. So now my son doesn't want to be involved with the program next year, he doesn't trust Coach Augilar. Their are others in the same situation some of these kids quit during the season and others just quit recently. These issues are due to lack of experience on Coach Augilar's part and are going to cost him down the line. LA can't afford to make those mistakes, they don't have the depth they had in the past. Coach Augilar is a good person, just over his head and doesn't have the support. The coaching staff is going to be even weaker next year based on the word around the school. From a students and parents perspective it doesn't look good.

Football Parent,
Yes the things you speak of are true of late, the best team that the Pico Rivera Dons had was during the late 90's and those kids were all from Pico Rivera. When they ended up going to El Rancho in the early 200's they were beaten by Charter Oak in the playoffs even though they beat Charter Oak while they were little kids. That's because CO was so much bigger than the kids at ER
I guess what I am trying to say is that success at the youth level does not mean you will be successful at the high school level. The PR parents used to think that and they were really disappointed. I think that the parents in HH are doing the same now.
Also the PR kids did not stay at the same high school. Most went to El Rancho, but others went to St. Paul, Amat, Bosco, etc. Seems to me that HH/LP is having the same problem. Wilson, Los Altos, Amat, Damien, La Puente, etc.
Posted by: FBFan | January 14, 2009 1:01 PM
HLP PW is an average feeder system at best. Yes they had an exceptional group of kids with some good coaches but they have come and gone. What remains at HLP is a program that was ravished for that groups success. It was started by a disgruntled JAA group. They used PW, got what they wanted and have now left HLP holding the bag. The proof is on the field, HLP didn't field one team this year that was considered a real threat. I think that speaks more accurately to what LA has to look forward to in the near future.
Posted by: about the youth | January 14, 2009 12:49 PM
Checking our banners of old will be the closest you'll ever come to haveing them! Your kids choke on the big stage! Your kids got no game when it comes to laying it all out there! Why don't you concentrate on beating Charter Oak, a team you do play every year, who kicks yous a$$ your every year!
Posted by: Beat the teams you do play! | January 14, 2009 11:53 AM
Heights Parent and Preservation,
You guys need to get off of Felipe's back. I'm sorry, but the truth is that he is working hard and the bottom line is that a lot more established coaches are not going to go to Los Altos because of the fact that they lack talent.
You don't have the big time athletes anymore like Cody, Harwell, or even Aguilar...
Preservation, you talk bad about El Rancho and how you don't want to be like them, but the truth is that Hacienda Heights is sounding a lot more like Pico Rivera. The reason being is because of the HH/LP Pop Warner program. The Pico Rivera Dons were always the best youth team around the SGV, but once these kids got to high school (El Rancho), they were above average at best. Why? because they simply do not get much better with age because they are not big time athletes.
That is not to say that Los Altos cannot be a solid program. They still seem to be pretty hard-nosed and play tuff much like a school that Preservation wants to knock.

I talked to Coach Morrison at this past bonita basketball game, he said he has options but he is going to wait and consider them at the right time. I know him and pasquerralla are friends and his son Ryne is close with alot of people at Glendora specifically Calvin Smith, glendoras starting junior guard.
I could see Coach Mo taking this year off to watch his son play and then coach in 2010, that is my guess from knowing Coach and Ryne pretty well

This is what's so stipid about DB's argument.
Chino Hills beats the tar crap out of Diamond Bar every year and DR beat them last year and beat themselves this year. Furthermore, DR played Amat where Amat's JV team beats DB by 35.
Again DB is the WEAK SISTERS of the Sierra League.
They played Glendora tough and then were beat on afetr blowing their wad against the Tartans.
So please DB....the only thing you beat DR in is "LIVING IN THE PAST!!!!!"

Read the archives and you will see the same article each year. Have Martin call Layton, JT can call or even you. The truth is, DR, sice Layton's arrival, has always been willing and has spoken openly about it. It is easier for your AD to say he tried and try to make DR look bad. I am sure Layton doesn't fear DB when he is willing to play such a monsterous schedule. Actually this would be that one easy game that we all ask him to schedule. ≠ highschool success,
Who ever said that Pop Warner made them what they are? You stated;
"A bunch of undersized Jr. Midget players, no matter how good, or how well coached, doesn't equate to a local high school dynasty.
That being said, all the fanatic PW parents can now feel free to flame me. Because, we all know how much the truth hurts, when you realize your superstar child has athletically peaked at the age of 13. lol"
You are the one coming on this blog talking crap about Pop Warner kids. You must have that 250lb. 5'2", 12 year old "all muscle" kid that was too heavy to play Pop Warner. Don't take it out on the rest of kids because your son was too heavy to play youth football.
By the way would you concider Reggie Bush undersized or peaked at the age of 13.

JTF,
IF HLP JM had beaten the NLB team, the still would needed to win at least 2 more games to get to Fl.
The HLP team was down to a bare bones roster[mostly due to injuries].
Not writing that they would not have made it to Fl, had they beat NLB, BUT it would have been VERY difficult to achieve that.

Pop Warner Parent
Spoken like the true PW, parent fanatic, that you are.
If you think PW made those NFL players what they are, you are an idiot. The kind of athletic prowess needed to compete at that level (NFL) is not taught before the age 14. Sorry. The make , or break of it will happen at the college level. Which is why college recruiters opt for the raw potential on a large frame, as opposed to the "polished" high school player with no size. SGV is full of small; "Wow he was great in high school" players that never went anywhere...
Hope you enjoyed your son's success. Now move on.
Posted by: pw success ≠ highschool success | January 12, 2009 11:33 AM
≠ highschool success,
Maybe you should engage brain before opening mouth;
The NFL Player's Association (NFLPA) estimates that between 60 and 70 percent of the current players in the NFL got their start playing Pop Warner Football.
"Pop Warner is really important because you have kids trying to determine what their values are going to be, what their priorities in life are going to be, and what their vision in life is going to be..." - Paul Tagliabue, NFL Commissioner

My apologies - the HLP team would not have won their third strasight title but would have gone to their 3rd straight nationals to Orlando - please forgive my "erroneous" fact from the previous post - I have been influenced by Obama of late
Posted by: JustThe Facts | January 12, 2009 10:25 AM
Facts:
and North Long Beach pop warner also had their own ESPN2 exposure - they won the pop Warner national championships on Orlando in 2007
- they had to beat the HLP pop warner to get there in a conference semi-final match (according to the OEC website) - if NLB had lost - then HLP would have won their 3rd straight national title
Posted by: JustThe Facts | January 12, 2009 10:18 AM
pw success#high school success
Don't tell Long Beach Poly (which has the highest number of NFL players as HS alumni in the nation) that pop warner doesn't count
- their North Long Beach pop warner is their farm team for football and their Long Beach Sprinters running club is their track farm club - which is also the same colors as LB Poly -
Posted by: qiuznos1 | January 12, 2009 9:55 AM
Dearest pw success*
BTW - I am not one of the pop warner parents and no one is saying that the HLP schools are going to be a dynasty soon (to be fair I should also mention Workman HS with the other 3 3-27 teams because they also have a few of the players from those championship teams)- and they did go to the playoffs this year
I do think coaching does matter - the QB of that Wilson freshman team that went 8-2 had never played football before - even on POP Warner - but in defense of those players (undersized or not) how many other area football players can say that they played on ESPN2 on national television - more than once at that

JustThe Facts,
Those coaches didn't coach at Wilson last year so those kids went to three or four different schools in the area. The talk around the campus is that they are coming back this year, if they do most of the kids will transfer over to Wilson. Should be real interesting....

Wilson Coaching:
What happened to the two Wilson freshman coaches a year ago that went 8-2 and had 2 POP Warner teams go to the national championships in Orlano two years in a row????
How did those football players go from top national teams as middle school students to: La Puente 2-8 // Los Altos 1-9 // Wilson 0-10 this year????

Here is a little on the new head coach position at Wilson, Merrill interviewed the final three last week. As far as Merrill going to Damien with Gano, that is a little up in the air, some of the kids are reporting that Merrill denies that he is going to coach with Gano next year, could be a misunderstanding. This new hire is critical to Aguilar’s success over at LA, many of the kids at LA are waiting to see who the new head coach is before they decide to stay or make the move.
The LA situation I just don’t understand, Aguilar has so much to learn and not enough time to learn it. LA has had many opportunities to right the ship but Aguilar keeps it going down the wrong path. Over the last month kids are dropping out of the program like flies, Aguilar has no clue what to do. The real dedicated athletics aren’t getting the support so they are looking or just deciding not to play football next year. The freshmen program has a few kids that may help but no real quality kids that are going to be impact players at the Varsity level next year, due to lack of football talent or lack of size. LA will be a little better next year, after that with the current schedule LA may not win a game for a couple of years. I am sure Aguilar is going to change around his pre-season schedule to boost up some of the numbers so that doesn’t happen. When it comes to league LA has no chance the next four years, and yes I mean the next four years. The incoming talent around the Heights and La Puente is weak at best and the only out of area transfers LA is going to get is those second tier kids like the El Monte kid this year that didn’t even start on JV.
Bottom line is LA isn’t developing their talent, so they aren’t going to get much better. The kids that just want to play ball are going to stay at LA. The kids that want to compete and are looking to play at the next level have no choice but to move on, LA isn’t going to work for them. The said part of this is Aguilar is taking all the heat for Gano’s mess; he saw the writing on the wall and jumped ship leaving Aguilar with a big mess.

Fred
Can you talk to Rosemead and see whats going on with them next year and see if a game with Diamond Ranch could be a possibility. Also I would like to know the thoughts of South Hills coach on the lose to Diamond Ranch in the play-offs.Also ask him if South Hills would consider playing some tougher teams in the pre-season to give them the edge they need when play-off time comes around.Fred this has been an ongoing question for a few years now buy plenty of your bloggers but for some reason has not been asked. Can you ask the South Hills coach this question and would you also ask him if he would be willing to play Diamond Ranch in a pre-season game since Diamond Bar won't oblige.

Attention GURU Fans:
It is now official. The GURU will no longer provide his one man show disguised as a scouting service. He is back at South Hills because Steve Bogan feels sorry for him.
Already causing a big uproar at SH with both staff and administration. District level is now just becoming aware of the situation. All the valley football fans will now rest in peace.

Fred, Diamond Bar is going through a big transition with a new baseball coach. Let's get the 411 from him and who he thinks is going to step up this year! new coach new prospective.Diamond Bar baseball looks strong this year but, let's get it from him (Shibley).

How about asking the Los Altos administration how much more 'very good' talent are they going to watch come in and then in the next turn leave due to the lower level coaching?
This is plain and simple B**LS**T!!!
It's time to step up and hire a BIGBOY coach who will implement a BIGBOY program!
Listen up...some of us may decide to stop writing checks, volunteering time and taking our 'out of town' connections(aka kids, parents, etc.) with us, because the situations at CHARTER OAK, SOUTH HILLS, DAMIEN, DIAMOND RANCH, AND BISHOP AMAT look oh so much more appealing!!
I'm getting tired of try ing help save a sinking ship and giving valid pleads only for them to fall on deaf ears!!
Gano is gone, and thank GOD for that, so let's move on!!! Or face eternity as Temple CitY, Diamond Bar, Fontana, Eisenhower, or worse yet EL RANCHO!
Get serious and appreciate those that support you!!!!

Talk to Gano now that he's had a some time to settle in and ask him how the transition is going and if he's hired his entire staff on Varsity and the lower levels. My other question to him would be has he contacted Morrison since his hiring and what is Morrison's son going to do next year play for Damien or transfer somewhere else? Does Gano drive over to Damien everyday for their offseason program?

Call Coach Shibley from Diamond Bar High School and ask him some questions about this years baseball team.

I heard a Northview coach interviewed at Wilson. Was it their Head Coach?
Posted by: CatFan | January 11, 2009 4:29 PM
Fred- 2 boys basketball games to cover:
Wednesday- Damien at Glendora, one of the longest rivalries in the area.
Friday- Chino Hills at Damien, the 2 best teams in Sierra League and what is now a rivalry with both schools hating each other since Chino Hills thinks they got robbed of the 06 Sierra League Football Championship(Mendrun's sneek with 1 second left)

I thought Merrill was stepping down as A.D. to move to Damien as Gano's O.C. Why would the administration have him innvolved in the hiring process? Makes no sense.

How about asking Wilson AD Merrill to get off his haunches, and hire a new coach? And then go down the hill and ask Aguilar how many more 1-9 seasons he can post, before he gets fired.

How about Northview wrestler Steven Salinas, who won another tournament Saturday.
Posted by: Max Mercy | January 11, 2009 12:52 PM
how about coach maggiore for Q&A. i think bobby miles-serrano is a contender for athlete of the week. he had 17 points against bassett on wednesday, and 11 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, and 1 block on friday night against la puente. Miles stepped up big time for the lobos as guerrero left the game early in the 3rd and did not return.
