Top Softball teams in 2009?

I'm leaning toward Glendora, who went to the Division II title game, play in the tough Sierra, and have senior pitcher Dana Waldusky to go with Natalie Hernandez, Kelly Nolan and Briana Dworak all back. Okay, I realize that Los Altos has senior pitcher Diana-Lynn Patterson and Washington bound shortstop Courtney Gano, so there's a good argument for No. 1. Others expected to be ranked high include San Dimas, South El Monte, Sierra Vista, Bishop Amat, and don't forget the sleepers like Azusa, with sophomore pitcher Veronica Ramirez. She's the real deal folks. Those expected to fall from last year's top rankings include Northview, too difficult to replace Hannah Fraijo. Same goes for Covina, losing pitcher Jill Huntsman. Charter Oak? Well, they're the huge question. They have the bats, but the question again, do they have the pitching to go with it?

fan,

wcpop Check out the catcher from Amat she is a sophomore this year she was starting catcher as a freshman beating out a senior for the job she is something to see she looks small but she is on her toes plays that position very well and a hustler!!

Big Daddy,
There's alot of players out there that are very good in this Valley and Yes other then at Los Altos or Glendora but when you say/write things the way you do, you make it seem that you have her on the same shelf as Dana and Diana and like it was said before "if you compare there stat's freshman year" there is no comparison to who these two girls played and pitched against as freshman's. So you don't get your feathers all ruffled, we have a new year that is just starting and a whole lot of softball to be played! Let's wish all of the teams in the Valley Good Luck and Enjoy the Season!

well said Big Daddy..

Look LA folks, sorry for voicing my opinion!! I didn't know that yall had the lock down on the Best Pitchers in the Valley. Sounds like yall are afraid of a little competition. Yes, I said she will be one of the Best in the Valley. I didn't say this year. She has 2 years of school left. In my OPINION I think she will be one of the Best in the Valley when she gets done. How is that comparing her to anyone else. When you make All League, All Valley, All CIF ect... that means that you are ONE of the Best. How do you get that status? Other people vote and voice their opinion on who the Best Players are. I'm sorry to have ruffled your feathers, but there are some very good players outside of LA.
Have a Great Day!!!

BIG DADDAY,
Please check your self!!
"She will be one of the best in the Valley."
That is comparing her to Dana and Diana. Since they are the two best in the Valley.
Posted by: LA Parent | January 15, 2009 9:15 AM
LA softball family,
Please check your self!! I wasn't comparing Veronica to anyone. I just stated that she is a very good pitcher. I have known her and watched her for years. In my opinion I think that she is good!
Posted by: BIG DADDAY | January 15, 2009 8:39 AM
Hey, You Know, thanks for the info, re: SNP, now his comments make sense, since we know who he is.. wow, what is his kid going to do without him at bhs????? she might have to prove herself to new coach. maybe daddy could get her on ulv team???tell her dont forget her butterfly net.....
Posted by: anotherbhsfan | January 15, 2009 6:48 AM
Big Daddy,
Look up the stat's on Dana and Diana there freshman year then you compare Veronica, NO COMPARISON!These 2 are quality pitcher's that threw about 58-62 there freshman year on the Varsity Team.(freshman year) and yes I saw with my own eyes, so please like I said don't compare her, she might be good in her division, but I don't see her doing anything to teams like Glendora or Los Altos!
Posted by: LA softball family | January 14, 2009 9:44 PM
hey Fred, It looks like a walk in the park for San Dimas this year with northview and covina graduating there pitchers does anyone in that league stand a chance?
Posted by: wcpop | January 14, 2009 7:47 PM
another fan, my dd got a text today heard bonita played catch today baby steps huh'
Posted by: sdfan | January 14, 2009 7:27 PM
Fred, what's your take on San Dimas this year. They have both stating pitchers and maybe the best catcher in the valley back?
Posted by: You Know | January 14, 2009 3:08 PM
Question:
Who else has had practice games, and what were the out come?
Posted by: LA softball mom | January 14, 2009 2:59 PM
coach "snp" was a coach at Bonita High Softball last year.
Posted by: You Know | January 14, 2009 2:57 PM
It was another exciting game at Los Altos where they played a tough Bishop Amat team. Los Altos showed their stuff with Diana Lynn on the mound. She only pitched a few innings as Los Altos won 4-0. Tish hit a 2 run triple and Victoria brought her in with a single. Courney also scored on a pass ball by the catcher. Great job girls!
The girls looked strong with 1st Team All League girls Tish, Victoria and Courtney. And The League MVP looked good as always. Looking forward to a strong season this year.

BIG DADDY,
Well hope you have a better year. And yes we have seen! and we didn't get a whiplash sorry!
Posted by: C'MON | January 13, 2009 2:42 PM
Yeah, I'm back. We had a few issues, but all is good at Covina. it should be a good year. (I'm hoping for a good year)If you get a chance get out and see Veronica, she has the Goods! She will be one of the best in the Valley.
Posted by: BIG DADDY | January 13, 2009 1:46 PM
i heard the last year coach at bonoita. now is one of the coaches at ULV great job brain, keep up the good work. i saw them working out everyday. you can only get so much out of what you have to work with. ..
Posted by: ken huth | January 13, 2009 1:45 PM
hey cch. believe it or not, bonita parents have had plenty to whine about, not just whether their kid was starting or not. and your right, bonitas fields are awful. we can thank BUSD and BH administration for that. and sorry to dissapoint SDFAN, but softball girls ( except for those playing a winter sport, as they are in-eligible ) have been doing more than running the track...
Posted by: anotherfan | January 13, 2009 1:23 PM
BIG DADDY,
YOU'VE RESURFASED!!! Lost you there halfway through the season last year. Are you back? How's Covina-Colts treating you? You are back there right? Or did you move on elsewhere? Anyways back to Azusa Softball. Nah! Still can't compare sorry!
Posted by: C'MON | January 13, 2009 12:50 PM
bonita come on the word is their still running circles around the track haven't touched a ball yet great pic bh parents. I would bet a few parents are feeling a little disappointed right about now.
Posted by: sdfan | January 13, 2009 12:01 PM
another fan, touched a nerve have i, the whining parents should be more worried about the condition of their fields than the coaching no doubt the worst in the area. Well fan, maybe the new guy will give her a start or two if not you can do what you do best wa wa wa wa wa
Posted by: cch snp.. | January 13, 2009 11:48 AM
c'mon, have you wathced her pitched. I have seen her pitch over the past 4 years in Travel Ball. She was a Freshmen starter last year and she can bring it! She is the real deal! She can hang with the best of them. Don't knock her until you've seen her. I hope that there coach puts the team up against some good presesaon competition this year so she can really show off her GUNS.
Posted by: BIG DADDY | January 13, 2009 11:45 AM
Fred,
Why do you insist on throwing that pitcher from Azusa in there with the rest of those top players??? No comparison!! She's good for that area and that's as far as you should go with that!!! Come on your killing us with that!!!
Posted by: c'mon | January 13, 2009 11:33 AM
Long time area fan, You are so right about Latisha there are so many more girls better at the game then she is. Lets see what happens her sophmore year at CSU I hear there are others coming in to take that spot at 2nd or SS for them that year. The old SS from Charter Oak and one other player but I guess the winner will be which ever parent kisses most ass over there in 2011. My guess Latisha dingdingdingding the winner!!!!
Posted by: here we go again | January 13, 2009 11:29 AM
Bishop and Los Altos varsity softball will be having a scrimmage today (Tues) at Los Altos. Lets see how the girls look this early in the year.
Posted by: softball fan | January 13, 2009 11:18 AM
to cch snp, i take issue regarding your comment about bonita parents. yes, some, or most parents have something to complain about at one time or another. Yes, sometimes it is just whining parents, but unless you have been forced to deal with the sub par coaching at Bonita, especially in girls sports, keep your comments to yourself. Obviously your only real concern is whether the tribune spells your kids name right...
Posted by: anotherfan | January 13, 2009 10:50 AM
softball fan,
I think your right that would be a Great game to watch!
Posted by: LA softball mom | January 13, 2009 10:27 AM
I think a Glendora vs. Los Altos game would be great! The only place it could happen is at the San dimas Tournament! That would be a good Championsip game to watch!
Posted by: softball fan | January 13, 2009 9:04 AM
Veronica R. is good, but nothing close to Diana-lynn Patterson, or Dana Waldusky! Yes i have seen her play! Ive also seen Latisha D. why do people keep bringing her up? My daughters played her quite a bit both in high school ball and in travel.....she has NO arm!! you cant argue that, shes not the hitter she was in 12 or maybe 14 &under. When everybody grew stronger and thier game improved she stood in the same spot!!! So shes going to CSF??? They arent exactly the school for softball they once were! Shes decent at best! Ive seen other girls on LA that are leaps and bounds better!
Posted by: LONG TIME AREA FAN | January 13, 2009 9:00 AM
The only time Glendora and Los Altos played was when both pitchers were freshman at the Charter Oak tournament, and LA won it. Now, there Senior year both girls are better and stronger I see both teams as equal.
Good Luck
Posted by: LA softball mom | January 13, 2009 6:57 AM
no doubt bonita needs amber bachman on the mound but will survive without her if she can't keep her grades up. and to cch snp, don't comment on bonita parents unless you have been in their shoes. You don't know what you are talking about...
Posted by: fan | January 13, 2009 6:55 AM
L.A should be the top dog to win it all this year. Charter Oak is gonna struggle with pitching and Diamond Bar should have a better season then they did last you. Who should be mentioned is Walnut they lost only two girls last year and they did beat some tough teams outside of there league. Bonita, Diamond Bar and Aquinas in CIF. They should be strong.
Posted by: knowssoftball | January 13, 2009 4:39 AM
Where are the teams from the San Antonio league in all of this?
Posted by: anonymous | January 12, 2009 11:29 PM
Reality Czech I usually like your comments and this time I agree again. Yes the address says Pomona, but if you visit the school or google image it, you will see it is very clean and is up on the hill bordering Chino Hills and Diamond Bar. And, it is really the Phillips Ranch part of Pomona. That is why it is called Diamond for (Diamond Bar)Ranch (for Phillips Ranch). It was the Diamond Bar tax payers money that built the school. My point is the student population and where they come from. That is Diamond Bar. Good one though.

Picks: Glendora 1, Los Altos 2, San Dimas 3, Bishop Amat 4. Everyone else 5.
And In that other area Ayala will be a monster heard it here first.
ps..t sorry steve still a little sore.

Just a comment to those Diamond Bar parents from the previous article "Talking to Layton is always interesting." Both Erica Miller and Brittany LaRosa live in the DR area. Actually the Millers are from Pomona. Uh oh are they Ghetto? Is Diamond Bar Ghetto. Don't talk about players coming to DR when you don't know your facts. We put up where our players came from. Don't pretend that you don't have players in all sports who live out of your area. I believe Robbie Torres also resided on the Northside. And I know you are going to say that those parents took their kids out of the Pomona schools to better their education. Don't you think the few Pomona kids who use addresses to get into DR are doing the same. DR is Diamond Bar. Even the City recognized them! We are DR!
Posted by: DR parent | January 12, 2009 9:12 PM
And to you Fred you can tell your boy Ramirez he better get his facts straight this year and spell my kids name right he can run but he cant hide under that loyal hat for long scout omg. lets be real dont know any that look like that.

Not too hard to coach when you have potentially an all division I infield Oh and I saw gano this weekend and he looked pretty good sporten his green and yellow. sour p.ss
Posted by: cch snp... | January 12, 2009 8:47 PM
ok listen not gonna bag on the new bo hi coach but understand bonita will be better because of the eligibility of senior pitcher Amber Bachman who was not there last year clearly where they were lacking. The problem with bo hi are the parents who cant keep their m.. shut.
Posted by: cch snp.. | January 12, 2009 8:32 PM
Fred, i would certainly keep and eye on Diamond Bar as well as St lucy's . Diamond Bar will have Miller and LaRosa as well as some sleeper Freshman, and a transfer pitcher from Washington!

To ???
Los Altos new head Coach is Lydell, he has been an assistant coach to Varsity the 2 previous years and also helping him is Coach Andy, the girls are working hard and getting ready for the new season!
Go LA! =)
Posted by: LA Varsity Softball parent | January 12, 2009 5:02 PM
From what I heard Gano just sat on his bucket of balls and watch, Coach Lydell was the real coach on that team.
Posted by: LA Parent | January 12, 2009 3:15 PM
Coach Ly will have his team prepared and ready to compete for a miramonte league title.
Posted by: mamba | January 12, 2009 1:45 PM
Coach Lydell is the new head coach. I talked to some of the girls on the team.
Posted by: Los Altos Parent | January 12, 2009 1:08 PM
I heard Gano has been replaced by his Asst. Coach Lydell.
Posted by: EagleFan | January 12, 2009 12:23 PM
Gano is still the softball coach at los altos
Posted by: fan | January 12, 2009 11:18 AM
Fred,
With Gano leaving, who's the new coach at Los Altos?
Posted by: ??? | January 12, 2009 9:58 AM
i agree. watch for bearcats softball to turn their team around to a winning direction. They have the experience and talent and I predict Coach Carlson is the one to finally put the bearcats on the map....good luck bearcat softball, we will be watching...
Posted by: bhsfan | January 12, 2009 8:17 AM
Fred,
Even though LA has had a few ups and downs the Varsity Team has picked up some great freshman for there roster, added to that the Coaches that are there are really working the girls!
Tisha- Cal State Fullerton
Courtney- University Washington
DianaLynn- Western Michigan University
Roxanne- will be going on official visits soon so who knows where she will land?
Also returning is Victoria and Candice, add the new girls and watch out! Oh and there is also a new freshman on JV team that is quite a pitcher too!
So I think you will have your job cut out for you this year alot of good softball to be played.
Good Luck to all the San Gabriel Valley Teams, to all the Seniors enjoy your season.

you forgot CSUF bound 2nd baseman Latisha Deudeaux (forgive me for the spelling) for Los Altos

With a new coaching staff, including a new head coach, don't count out Bonita yet. Bonita has alot of talent and all they needed was a coach to match that talent..
