It is rare for me to discover something on the internet that is as entertaining and fascinating as what you've got here. Your page is lovely, your graphics are outstanding, and what's more, you use source that are relevant to what you're talking about. You are definitely one in a million, man!

Glendora fans don't expect a warm welcome from the SBHS staff as they still remember how Glendora was supposed to play SBHS on the road in a state so-cal game. Glendora petitioned the cifss and had the game moved to UCI thus a lot of SBHS fans did not attend this game.

SGV hoops said:

SoCal Hoops...great, thanks for the warning about San Berdoo H.S. and gym. Glendora's there tomorrow night and I think I'll drive the old car. Hope that doesn't keep one of your guys away Fred. I understand no coverage at the last game, because you didn't think it would be one...but boy was it. No knock on Ontario, they were better than I expected, but the Plaid boys better pick it up Friday or it could be an early exit in Tartan land. I'm sure the Glendora faithful will travel well...they always do.

Ok, so i've lived in the SGV for a long time and i am new to this blog thing. But i really want to know everyone's opinion. (EVEN yours Fred).

Mike LeDuc vs. Gary Prestesater

Who is was/is a better coach. Gary coached at a school with significantly fewer enrollment, but LeDuc has some NBA talent.

So what do you think guys, Bring out stats and systems, Former Players/ Who did more with Less/ Controversies all of it. Ready GO!

I agree with chief.

Wats the point of having a #4 seed Nogales when u gotta go play #14 west in Torrance

Also Mater Dei has to go to Upland?? That makes no sense.

What did you think of Magnolia's Coach Mike Anderson. What few peopel know is when he took the Girls job he built them into a power. Lost To teh DR Girls at teh Pyramid and then last year went State. During the past two years Caoch Anderson has coached both the Boys and Girls teams at teh same time. Incredible!

He would do wonders out here in the SGV.

Salesian vs. Crespi after taking out their revenge on a Maranatha team that beat them in the football playoffs a few years ago. Next up is Crespi? Joey...what gives? Workman vs, Notre Dame and now Salesian vs. Crespi. Both those schools have Division 1 athletes and great school resources and administrative and parents money and they are trying to get cheap Championship by going down ...like 7 Divisions for Basketball. Doesn't make sense in Baseball and clearly doesn't make sense in any other sport. Same athletes, same student body same demographics. Loyola is doing this as well? Has everyone lost their mind.

Why not just make it like the NCAA Tournament and let the best 64 teams in. Works for them...and a NIT Tournament for smaller schools, and by smaller I don't mean that whoreeeee Oaks Christain !

This is clearly a sham and a total embarassment to anyone who believes in fair play. So the logic here is...as a ND parent told me..."we're NOT Div 1 in all sports? Take it up with CIF!" Sure and no one realized Private Contractors were stealing the US Givernment blind in Iraq.

Sure. Parents and schools petition for everything under the sun ...except when it suits their needs. "right teams winnig the right Chmapionships"...wasn't that the CIF line.

Anyway no one at Workman or Salesian is complaining or looking for EASY STREET...bring it on!

Hopefully Salesian can send Crespi out of the playoiffs as well. What a total embarssment!

Diamond ranch game should be a good one.
We killed magnolia last night with our 3rd string in.

COBBall said:

Fred, come out to Charter Oak tomorrow night. Should be a good game versus Apple Valley-seems to be pretty evenly matched teams with similiar records. CO has won 5 in a row and the team seems to be peaking at the right time-including their impressive win against Bonita last week. They will be returning four starters so look out next year as well.

Fact! said:

joe amat,

i knew u would make your list and i can agree with u about a couple and i bet Bishop & Damien r nice cause they r new...But i have to disagree with u about azusa that gym is trash yeah it is built like glendora but it is just flat out garbage everything about it is a joke and Glendora unless they fixed it up the last couple of years it is like Fenway Park tons of history but needs to get knocked down and made into something nice...I would have to throw So. El Monte into the top 5

Joe Amat said:

10 Edgewood (Freddy, this ones for you. It's be on the elist if WSUSD woulda been smart enough to use that campus instead of WC)
9 Baldwin Park (there's something about old elevated stands that I like-don't know why)
8 Azusa (I swear...exactly the same as Glendora-just not as clean and without the history)
7 Charter Oak (haven't been inside since the renovation, Better I'd hope? But can we finish the outside paint job?)
6 South Hills (now it at least doesn't have a garage door for one whole wall
5 Covina (alotta great players have been in that gym... floor is great, have we got new bleachers yet?)
4 Diamond Ranch (clean and new... but sterile with too much glass))
3 Glendora (when it's full it is probably the best place to be in, two decks is awesome)
1 Damien (1A & 1B - tough to choose, flip 'em if you want)
1 Amat (some design flaws but the biggest thing wrong is the Activity Centers official name-that I'll never utter)

What the hell is the point of posting that video

Again you show your lack of professionalism

We are all better of if you and the Tribune just go away

Fact! said:

sgvpride,

u shouldve played on Workmans gym before they replaced the floor with all the dead spots...coaches use to coach the players to force other teams into the dead spots...that was funny the ball would just stick to the floor...Workmans gym is ok because it has a fairly new floor/scoreboard/paint job it is just a clone to about 10 other sgv schools

sgvpride said:

Workmans gym is not really that bad. I don't really mind those throwback gyms. I know it is not suppose to be that way. The small little gyms provide that old school feel. Personaly I don't mind it as a player. Most players like the smaller gyms any way.

Fact! said:

i can make a list of the worst

5. Glendora
4. Azusa
3. Bassett
2. Gladstone
1. Duarte

I havnt seen a couple of the new ones but So. El Monte has a nice gym

Can you put out the top #10 basketball gyms in the area from the best to play in to the best facilities.I challenge your readers to put out their own list as well?

Joe Amat said:

Their man is typically to apply pressure, slow you down by using clock, and wearing you out - rather than double teaming and creating turnovers or a frenetic pace.

...and FB fan - Damien has a great gym also, about the same size as Amat's with slightly different internal features. Amat has some poor design features and I was in Damiens early and I joke about the "MiniTron"(not JumboTron) they had on the wall. It looked a little too small for the wall - but that's pretty nitpicking for a $5M gym!

What I want to know is if the gym over the old locker room is still on the second floor. I played some games in that thing. DANG!

the workman vs cathedral game is going to be interesting. a few of the wolfpack guys go to cathedral, so its not gonna be anything new to flores, miles, and guerrero. its nice to see all of you guys come out to the game and check out the program for yourselves, since alot of people kept bashing us in the beggining. another key for us to win tomorrow night will be to make all of our free throws. it should be a great game. fred you should really come back and cover it again.

the girl who sung is mariah avila. shes a senior, during halftime the other girl was her younger sister. their mom has had them singing since they were little.

#22 is jacob ramos. he started a few games for the lobos. he has good outside range, but not as good as cj. he is definately a guy you don't wanna leave open.

another guy who is overlooked is #23 carlos molina. hes probably one of the toughest athletes at workman. this guy is just a rebounding rock, and has a nice little jumper. this guy gets it done and comes through every single time, especially on defense.

have i answered everyones questions?

hs bb fan said:

im going to watch the Damien-La Habra game on friday-im coming from whittier-whats the best way to get there-please help with directions-and how is the gym-is it old???-what kind of seating ??=thanks

Fact! said:

i dnt think Cathedral runs a full court press cause there scores are usually not that high and teams that like to press will have high scoring games

Joe Amat said:

Fact!

That was a great run for the Lancers. I say it all the time. Coaching matters. If anyone saw that game Amat's coaches outcoached Artesia and the players outworked them. Period.

No reason Flores can't do that to McCorn on Friday! If CJ tries to do to much against the press it could lead to trouble. His vision will help and his best work Friday may be as a facilitator. And as you say - it will tire them out and test their depth.

Fact! said:

fredj,

that is true for the begining of the game but i saw them play N. Torrance who presses from start to finish and by the 3rd qtr Guererro & Miles were hands on there knees and were not the same players...Miles needs to have his legs all game becasue he is so important to Workamn on both ends of the court and he gets most of his points driving to the basket

FredJ said:

I think a press actually plays into Workman's hands because Guerrero is such a good ball handler and he's tough on the break. So is Miles, it could lead to a lot of easy baskets, the key is staying out of foul trouble and continuing that relentless energy on defense.

Fact! said:

And i still cant believe Amat beat Artesia and won CIF that year they were not even that good...Paul & co. just played good team ball and had a great season but how they won is beyond me

Fact! said:

If Cathedral is a full court press team that will be very tuff for Workamn because they have no bench and Guererro & Miles will have to use so much energy breaking the press they will be less effective rebounding and playing D and they do alot of that especially Miles...If those 2 guys have to beat the press all game it could be a long day but if Cathedral just plays regular man2man and does not fully press than i think Workman can score and do there thing...

Joe Amat said:

I didn't see either game (still on a bit of a boys basketball boycott at amat), I do know Cathedrals coach a bit - he used to work on campus at UCLA and he and the Diamond Ranch coach used to be assistants at Artesia back when the Lancers beat them on their way to a CIF title, so he knows what needs to be done. They played a super tough preseason schedule (something the Lancers now refuse to do) and I think it prepared them for this part of the year.

Workman should match up well with them. I heard they have a couple slender posts about 6'3" or 4" and a stronger banger type that's a little shorter than that. They won't kill you with size, but they do play really hard and will play a tough full court man-to-man. Look for them to try to "rough up" CJ a bit and wear him down. Miles may need to come up big this time.

Good luck!

FBFan said:

What about Damien's gym. That thing is on a completely different level than any gym I've seen lately, but then again I have yet to see Amat's new gym.

Fact! said:

joe amat,

damn i really do...thats what happens when u get older and have to work more...looks like these private schools are finally starting to put money back into the gyms...

so give us a heads up about CATHEDRAL considering Amat lost twice to them...What do the lobos have to do to win?...Handicap this thing for us because u r the only person in these blogs i would take seriously u even saw Billy Morales play

sgvpride said:

#22 or jacob should have been playing way before mid-season. He is actually really good at the guard position but cj and bobby have the ball 90% of the time.

Joe Amat,

Thanks for correcting me i had no idea they built a new gym...all i know is i played the a couple years ago and that place was worse than Duarte's church they call a gym...the locker room was like a little boiler room and the floor and and stands were just a joke but i am glad to see they built a new gym for the kids cause they deserve to play somewhere decent...Amat is NO staples center either

#22??,

I think that kids name is jacob and he started to really get some real PT about mid-season but i havnt seen him play that good of D all season he usually sits in the corner and knocks down open 3's but he had a great game last night and i have no idea who that girl was but she did a great job...ask boomer he might know...

Joe Amat said:

BTW2,

It's great to see Coach Flores get those guys going again and surround the game with a little "hoopla" to make it "an event" for the spectators and players alike. Congrats on round 1. Round 2 is going to be a tough one. Represent the SGV!

Workman was amazing last night said:

After seeing Workman last night against Notre Dame I was left thinking what a great thing Cezer Guerrero did. he atmosphere was electric, the players played from the opening tip to the end as one and teh coach left his ego at teh door. One of the best high school experiences I've had in a long time. Miles is a beast of a player. At Glendora, Damien or Chino Hills he's a monster scoring at least 30 a game and win their Division's Champonship goin away. Best player I've seen this year, yes better than Cezar. Cezar is tough but Miles reminds me of Affalo with tremendous energy and work ethic whereas Cezar reminds me of Farmar who all promise and loads of skill. Both great talents who will evenually place at he next level for sure. Peopel should really get out and experience a Workman game. They do the lghts, the haftime entertainment and its "real". ND was clasless from the beginning. A Varsity player had to tell the small student section to cut it" wihin the first 3 minutes. I asked them."Are you all going to Duke whe you graduate?"...They laughed and said..."Were pracicing to be Cameron Carzies!!" wll they're on their way. Notre Dame has no business i a Div that low but Workman et them packing inspite of the asst. coach who had to hav Security called over because of abusive laguage to the score's table. Cezar congrats on your decision. Welcome home!

Joe Amat said:

Facts!

Check 'em. Take a look at these pix of Cathedrals new gym. Your guys would enjoy playing there for sure. Great facility. It actually makes Workman's little place look like "Rich-mond!"

http://cathedralhs.ca.campusgrid.net/home/New+Gym

BTW- that gym from Coach Carter is the Long Beach St Anthony gym. THAT was a huge home court advantage when they filled the student section behind the basket.

If Damein beats La Habra, and they can beat anyone, Damein loks to make it to at least te Semis. Damien got the best bracket seeding it could have ever asked for. Hopefully damen plays like they are capable amd Big Mike continues to develop and Damien wins teh Championship this year.

Nissed the game last night. Anyone have any details or how the team responded? Early in the seaosn I thought this was Dunn's best team ever and would and could win League undeafeated but then the partans forgot why they play the game. Hopefully they realize it's about the "team" and band together as one. best of luck this Friday. Long Live Sparta !

#22 ?? said:

Fact!...any info on #22? He was something else last night blanketing the ND PG and actually hitting a big three late in the game. Kid came in and wow, talk about pressure!

Also who wa that girl who sang the National Anthem...he brought it down BIG TIME!!!!

Fact! said:

Cathedral is coming to Workman (thank god)...Cathedral has one of the worst gyms around it looks like the gym from coach carter...Workman needs to limit the 2nd chance points and the Lobo bigs need to realize that they r not going to block any shots so just put your hands up dont foul and box out cause they can not afford to get in any foul trouble

Guererro & Miles have to do there thing and they others need to hit open shots when they get them and it should be an exciting game

If you think about it Fred the video isn't much different than when blogers go after certain people once they know their name. It's not as physical for sure but equally random and obviously has the same intent...to injure anonymously. The truth is fights like this take place all across the country from Little League to Pop Warner and sometimes even Soccer. I think there's a racial component here. That's just me. On Miguel's blog it never came down so I was surprised it came down here. Then again the Biggest Race Riots in US history have taken place in Los Angeles...a place were you think peple are a little more culturally openminded. I still think the Servite "taunting" was worst than the brawl. Getting "crazy is just that...peoeple out of their minds and thugs taking advantage. In the Servite situation...it was deeper becaus epeople thought it was funny and acceptable. Fred you're okay in my book,

This is a travesty! Why are teams with outstanding records TRAVELING to play teams that have mediocre records. How can this be justified?

Glendora (22-7) at San Bernardino (15-11) ?????

La Habra (21-7) at Damien (15-11)?????

Simi Valley (21-6) at Rowland (13-16)??????

Diamond Ranch (19-3) at Fullerton (16-11)????

Bonita (23-5) at Garden Grove Pacifica (17-10)????

Northview (22-6) at Citrus Hill (16-9)???

San Luis Obispo (19-6) at Bishop Amat (18-9)???

What's the incentive for a team to amass a good record in the regular season?
