What about rosemead's track and field team. They had a couple of athletes that made the state meet through the years. Btw arroyo does not have a better track team then rosmead.

i know there laying off 69 teachers in the district and the band will be affected also, but not sure if the band is at the hs or elsewhere. sad times, hate to see the kids lose out on anything.

Any truth to the rumors that several local public schools, San Dimas being one of them, are cutting back freshmen sports programs to save money?

There are a couple of recycled scenes from the other 2 Amat videos posted on here but the vast majority of these highlights are new and involve the Lutheran game.

The video also opens with a spectacular TD leap over a Long Beach Poly defender by Mr. Deshawn Gaisie (#20). I wish the person responsible for these awesome videos would make a Poly game video even though they squeaked out a win over our Lancers.

In case you miss it, the Pac-5 football championship pitted Long Beach Poly and Tesoro...both public schools.

Other well known "recruiting" public schools include Edison, Los Alamitos, Mission Viejo, Hart, Esperanza, Corona Centennial, CC Canyon, etc.

chino hills is in the sierra league, but on the other side of the hills from the valley.....they should be # 1....

First off before we go any further with your comment on AMAT . Please let us know what you feel the term recruiting means to you when pertaining to AMAT. Tell us in your own words how we recruit.

You don't like Amat but you don't know any of the administrators or staff or students. I bet you are friends or acquaintences with Wilhans Ili since both of you are south El Monte kids. Is he a bad guy because he is a representative of Bishop Amat. Sohe is a cheater since he is a part of the staff, right? Rosales what is it?

It never siezes to amaze me when someone writes that Amat should not be in these types of rankings, cause we all know how Amat is able to recruit and the public schools are not.....listen, public schools do their own share of recruiting as well and if you don't believe this to be true, you're only fooling yourself. And yes I am talking about the schools on this list.

What do these teams have in common? Great football programs. Football, for most great athletic programs, is the heart and soul of its success.

What else do they not have in common? One is public, which has to play by certain rules and the other is private, which never follows any rules.

I think that you get my point. Bishop should not be in these rankings. They should be compared to other similar schools who can also get away with murder when it comes to recruiting and so forth.

I don't care what all of you say. When you can choose the fastest horses for the race. You are going to win and if you can't, well simply, you wont.

I am proud of all the public schools on the list that actually follow the rules and make regular athletes into great football players. Which is the opposite of private schools that recruit the best and then simply expect them to win.

No I have not lost my mind. Nothing wrong with the picture just the fact that something like that especially when it pertains to AMAT seems to bring out the idiots. In fact I seem to recall a few threads on the subject of cheerleading. It just made more sense to me that a picture of the schools sport groups would be more to the topic of the thread.Don't read to much in to my post it was just a thought .

These rankings are fair. I think a lot of the people who are complaining are only looking at major sports like football and boys basketball, but this is an overall ranking with emphasis on the major sports. Also I was looking on Maxpreps and it is nice to see the girl basketball teams entering their basketball stats now that the season is over. Everybody in the miramonte league for girls now has their stats in, thanks to D Ranch and Bonita finally putting them in and I noticed a few other teams also put in their stats. Still waiting for those Workman boys stats. Now we will have to see how all of the boys do tonight and see if they let us in on their secret stats if they don't advance

Amat 73...have you lost your mind?

What did Fred do that's so bad? I actually coached the second girl from the left. She's an incredible girl from an incredible Family. Both her parents are Amat Alumni and High School Sweethearts who are very successful and proud Boosters.

Recently the Girls X Country picture was taken down because apparently the photo showed too much leg. I agreed with that one. She was sitting with one leg bent over the other laid flat. That was borderline and I guess someone called Fred or the Trib and down it went. The girl probably has teh picture on her wall at home. It was actually a great photo.

But this picture is perfect! So someone wrote a bathroom joke about something or another. Relax....nothing wrong with the photo...just idiots in every facet of life....even this blog.

The problem is far more the responsibility of the few "idiots" than it is the photo. If we can't respect a photo (which is of the Dance Team, I think, not the cheerleaders-but who's nitpicking) of girls that work hard to support all sports, something isn't right.

I love the school spirit that it shows, but the point for bloggers to remain tasteful is important. Just as the athletes are relatively off-limits (outside of normal analysis) remember when we write that these are somebodies daughters.

C'mon, I posted a cheer picture because they CHEER for all sports. Is it really a big deal?

Why put a picture of the cheerleaders when this is concerning best sports programs. Just seems you left it open to the few idiots who posted those comments. Why not a picture of our football team or a collage of the different teams say like AMAT,SH,NV,DR,and so forth would have been even better. I hate to think this of you but sometimes it seems you are throwing gas on the fire.

FRED- TAKE THE COMMENTS ABOUT THE CHEERLEADERS OFF THE BOARD PLEASE.

I'm pretty surprised that Bonita is as high as it is, but I think it fits right on. Although a lot of people within their community wouldn't agree, the Bearcats have some of the best coaches around in the top sports (Football, basketball, baseball).

Too bad Damien is bringing St. Lucy's down. They won league in Volleyball, Cross Country, Soccer and Water Polo. And are about to get titles in Swimming and Track & Field. Up and rising is our tennis, basketball and softball programs.

Hopefully, the new coaching changes at Damien will bring some much needed titles.

St. Lucy's should at least get an honorable mention since it is an all girl school and deserves just a little bit of recognition for the accomplishments they have achieved.

Rosemead? Yes, they have done well in football recently, but as a total athletic program they fall way short compared to Arroyo. In football, Arroyo has made the play-offs every year since 1984-currently one of the longest active streaks in CIF. Rosemead's boys' basketball made the play-offs for the 1st time in years this season, while Arroyo won the league title just 2 years ago. In girls' basketball, Rosemead has won 6 of the last 8 league titles, but Arroyo has won 8 and has made the play-offs in 18 of the past 19 years. Arroyo has dominated the league in boys' and girls' cross country, boys' and girls; track, boys' and girls' tennis. Arroyo's wrestling team has won 4 league titles in a row, and just had 2 CIF champions and a 3rd place finisher this last weekend. It may not be the most powerful league in the valley, but to put Rosemead on the list and not include Arroyo is a travesty.

Ok to correct Fred... Glendora is competitive in Volleyball every year and they are way above par Field Hockey (note that only other team in the valley have FH teams is Bonita and Glendora beats them every year)

Just thought you missed 2 pretty solid teams that are above par in the valley.

And i think it should be sports that are competitive every year. And I agree with South Hills, Bishop and D-Ranch has funky sinusoidal graphs going on sometimes but Northview and Bonita and are hard to put above Glendora.

Fred I see you left out Girls volleyball league champs, Last year league champs in swimming, track and solfball. One more thing Diamond Bar we did beat you in Volleyball, and last year in solfball.

I like the thread. You've got Glendora too low. Wasn't football top 3 or 4? Basketball? Softball? Baseball? They are strong in all of those and the 2nd tier sports are good as well. Also, I would say Volleyball is an "elite" on the women's side.

List looks pretty good. Northview has absolutely DOMINATED Covina on the field, court, mat and in the class room! So bad that their principal lost her cool a couple of weeks ago! Yelling and cussing at the Northview cheerleaders!!! I guess our cheer program is kicking their @ss too!!! Keep dominating Vikes!!!

What about some good old fashion,Traditional,consistent,programs.Covina always competitive in football,one of the oldest programs around,Baseball the same,their soccer program coming around not to mention their Basketball boys and girls always competitive.And what about their Track Teams always up their.A few years ago they had one of the fastest 400m relay teams in the state.We have some great programs in theSGV .

Northview is on a roll...esp. in the valle vista, they're kicking a** and taking names, including rival covina who they never seem to lose to in any sport.

Football- League Champs last 2 years.

Boys Basketball- League Champs 3 years in a row.

Girls Basketball- League CHamps- 2009

Wrestling- CIF Champs 8 x's this decade.

Baseball- League Champs 3 x's in a row and cif champs - 2008

Girls soccer- playoffs this year.

Diamond Bar's football team is soooo crappy and they beat Walnut? What does it really say about this list Fred? How could damien, bad football season, basketball was fifth in league though having a run, soccer down in league though in the second round as well. In most years Damien would be here, but they've fallen across the board.

Surprising Damien isn't even in the Top Ten. Would it have changed things if they were viewed as a Tri-School of St. lucy's. Pomona Catholic and Damien?

Although I would like to see our kids either play with a chip on their shoulders (the attitude of fighting for yours) or play with the mentality that we are this good so lets show them... No I am not saying that we are, I am just stating that the ATTITUDE does not seem to correspond and IF we managed to change our attitudes we MIGHT do better.

Look at Diamond Bar...they blow in Football and haven't been the same since God knows when and look at Chino after Monger left..again "they" haven't been the same since.

Football is a pretty good barometer of the quality of athlete and the administrations "sports" commitment.

Div 1 doesn't happen with both of those factors in place. At least for the most part.

Fact, with the exception of boys tennis, what other league titles has Diamond Bar won compared to Walnut, Boys Water Polo, Girls Basketball, Swimming, Girls Soccer, and don't count scrimmages, that doesn't mean anything. We cover Diamond Bar, but Diamond Bar has to start competing for league titles to see us more often.
