Boys Soccer: Baldwin Park, Mountain View, Rosemead win; Sierra Vista sent home

| | Comments (27) |

Boys Soccer
Friday's quarterfinals

Division IV
Pacifica 4, Sierra Vista 1
Division V
Baldwin Park 2, La Canada 2, BP wins on PK's, 5-3
Salesian 4, Monrovia 2
Division VI
Mountain View 2, L.A. Baptist 0
Rosemead 5, Barstow 2

Pregame Preview: These are very winnable games for local teams. Let's start with the locks, I have no problem saying Mountain and Rosemead will not only win, but meet in next week's Division VI championship. To be honest, they don't belong in this division, they're much better than this. Unless they totally stumble, they should both be in the semifinals. But who knows, stranger things happen in soccer. Baldwin Park could have a tough time at La Canada, especially since they're still missing three starters because of injuries. But La Canada does have field turf like B.P., which should play into the Braves' hands. Sierra Vista has the toughest task against Pacifica, normally a physical team and a long trip. That's a toss-up.

Above: Sorry Lad, this is what happens when you go up against the Eastside's finest.

I agree that Mountain View has an easy road to the championship because they do not belong in that division. ARe you kidding me??? it is a joke. I have seen them in the Wilson Tournament and there's no way they should be playing the teams they play....what a joke. CIF championship will have no meaning!!!

Can anybody tell me why Mtn View is in DIV 6? I live up north in Monterey, and we get put into certain divisions because of school population size...One guy does not make a team. Yes, BP did beat Mtn View in the beginning of the season, but both teams are way different teams now. We wont play them this year, but hopefully next year again. Go Vikings!!..Class of 1991.

Jairo single handedly?..
he scored 1 goal all through out the play offs.. and that was the game winner against la canada.. he was a great player but he did not carry the team on his shoulders.. i bet u didnt even see the games so why are u even talking?.. Mtn View relies on team play.. not individual skill.. look at their stats, there isn't even one player with 15 goals.. 13 different players have scored and 12 different have assisted on goals... there is none of this one player with 20+ or 30+ goals in the team like with BP or Rosemead..
havent even won league last 3 years before this year.. yeah its true we didnt.. but i can also tell u we beat s. el monte league champs in 06 3-0 second round and league champs arroyo 3-0 also last year... league is a nice thing to win.. but it doesnt get u a ring.. it gets u a nice patch on your letterman jacket..
and since u like to bring up the past.. what was the score mtn view - bp last year?..
im pretty sure u should know.. dont hurt yourself though...

u and divisions.. yeah u were ONE higher.. oh wow!.. big difference.. this isnt college football or basketball so relax.. i know some of the guys here at mtn view have teammates from their club teams playing in the higher divisions with other high schools...
divisions have little to do with the skill there is..

(aimed at dave and no one else..)

B.P. IS THE BEST TEAM IN THE VALLEY, MANY HAD THERE CHANCE TO TAKE EM OUT AND THEY DIDNT. THEY BEAT ALOT OF THE TOP TEAMS AROUND AND WON THE VVL. THEY PROBABLY CAN BE BEAT ON ANY GIVEN DAY, FOR FOR 3 MONTHS AND TWICE A WEEK, ONLY ONE BEAT THEM...

GO BRAVES !!!!

Were talkin about high school soccer here??? Divisions dont make a difference... You suck you suck you have a great team you have a great team... When mt. view won back in 05 they had 6/7 club players that all been playing together since they were young... You will probably win CIF again sometime, but your team probably wont be that good again... BP no there not the best team in the SGV there's plenty of other teams that could've beat them any given day...

I hope all the teams in the San Gabriel Valley come out victorious, and it will allow for the CIF state regionals to hold representatives from this area... It would be great to meet BP again and better if it was for a state regional title. But good luck to all and hope to see you in the CIF finals or state regionals

VIKE, THATS THE PLAN, THATS WHY WE PLAY THE GAME RIGHT? HOPEFULLY WE'LL GET A SHOT BY BEATING ANIMO THIS TUESDAY. HEY I AGREE WITH YOU, I THINK YOU GUYS ARE A GREAT TEAM. DIVISION IS JUST DIVISION, YOU GUYS CAN PLAY WITH ANYBODY, JUST LIKE S.V, AND ROSEMEAD CAN. WE CAN ALL BEAT ANY DIVISION 1 2 OR 3 TEAM. I THINK YOU GUYS CAN COMPETE IN ANY DIVISON AS WE CAN AND THE OTHER TEAMS I MENTIONED CAN. BUT LET ME GET THIS RIGHT, " YOU HOPE WE LOSE TO SALESIAN OR WHOMEVER ELSE WE MAY PLAY?" IS THAT RIGHT, IF SO THATS MESSED UP. I HOPE NOTHING FOR THE BEST TO THE TEAMS IN OUR VALLEY, AND I THINK ITS GREAT YOU GUYS HAVE A WONDERFUL SOCCER TRADITION, BUT I AM JUST ONE PERSON, I CANT HELP THE WAY YOU THINK, BEST OF LUCK THIS WEEK...

GO BRAVES !!!!

B.P 1 MT VIEW 0 ENOUGH SAID, AND THAT WAS THIS YEAR...

AND IT WASNT EVEN THAT CLOSE

GO BRAVES !!!!

Weak division yes. Did we ask to be put in this division.no. I saw MTN VIEW, in the Marina TOurney earlier in the year, and they played great. Beating Santa Ana Valley easily. They can play with OC teams, and teams in Div 1. This is a good team playing great as a TEAM. We will win DIV 6, but we should be in DIV 3. Keep working boys.

dave said:

Oh! By the way, BP also made it to the semis last year and you were not in our division, you were still in a lower one. Relax, be objective. speak with your head, not your heart.

dave said:

Take it easy! When you won CIF in 2005 you did have a very strong team. Now you don't. By the way, as I said before, you had Jairo. He single handedly took out La Canada and Azusa. Best team in SGV the last five years? You can't be serious about that, because you haven't even been league champs the last three years and Damien won two division I championships meanwhile. Quit fooling yourself. Yes, in a higher division you'd be out in 1st or 2nd round. You're just an OK team in a very weak division.

vikings08 said:

Dave,

ur a fkn joke..

seems like u are jealous of mtn view. higher division they would be out first round?.. last year we were in same division u are right now and we made it to semi.. in 2005 we took CIF.. how many CIF titles does BP have? 0...

last year we took out la canada in the quarters in regular time..

earlier in the year Mountain View 3 La Canada 1

whats this? u barely beat la canada in penalties??

like i said u are a fkn joke...

cant wait until u face salesian, that way they put your asses in their place...

keep envying the best team in the SGV for the past 5 years MVHS..

JCAZ, THANKS FOR THE GOOD WISHES, IT WOULD BE SOMETHING HUGE IF B.P. HAS BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE FINALS. HUGE FOR THE CITY AND ALL ITS RESIDENTS. B.P. HAD A HUGE FOLLOWING TODAY AT LA CANADA....

GO BRAVES !!!!

Baldwin Park is by far the best team in the SG valley this year. They are very solid in every line. They could win CIF in any division. If Rosemead or Mt View were in a higher division they'd be out in the first or second round. Both teams have significant weakneses. Sierra Vista is slightly less than BP, but still better than Rosemead or Mt. View. Rosemead is a little bit better team than Mt View. Last year Mt View had an outstanding player in Jairo Aquino, this year not a single one.CIF Div VI is really weak. If the Mission Valley League wants any credibility they need to be in a higher division.

jcaz said:

From what I saw, you have an OUTSTANDING team, and for what it's worth, I did consider that as a possibility.

Oh and Bravetown, from one BP resident to another, I wish you guys all the luck out there.

Ops, almost forgot, Sierra Vista ? No score yet ?

mtn view insider said:

his comment is in response to jcaz, i am that coach with the spanish, and i honestly agree with your point, we want to educate our students and players with our language here in the US, but our players are all bilingual, and it was more of a tactical device than a flaw. The team that we played today was mainly caucasian, and hence our instructions being in spanish to keep secret our calls to our players. Thank you though for going out and catching our game, mtn view has a very complete team, and we hope to send all of our seniors to a community college next year, to continue their soccer careers.

Final score in the Sierra Vista game?

JCAZ, VERY WELL SAID, I COULDNT AGREE WITH U MORE.

ON THE B.P. GAME, I THOUGHT B.P.'S PLAY WAS VERY SLOPPY, IT LOOKED AS IF THEY TOOK LA CANADA LIGHTLY. CREDIT TO LA CANADA, THERE A SCRAPPY TEAM, AND HAD 1 BEAUTIFUL HEADER FOR A GOAL. B.P. BETTER PLAY BETTER IF THE WANT TO GO TO THE FINALS..

GO BRAVES !!!!

It's kind of funny how thins seem to work out sometimes.

Just today, I took a ride down the bike path next to the San Gabriel valley wash, and accidentally caught the first half of the Mountain View soccer game.

It was a total fluke, but to tell you the truth, I have to say that I was extremely glad that I was able to catch the game.

For what it's worth, here are a few observations that I made about the first half of that game.

First off, Mountain View has some pretty darn good soccer players. In that first half, it seemed as if the Vikings were all over the place and it seemed as if the other teamwas clearly outmatched.

To tell you the truth, I thought that the game was going to get ugly, real fast.

They are that good !!

However, to the other teams credit, they hung in there pretty good in that first half, so I don’t really know how it ended up.

Oh, one more thing, and maybe this will ruffle a few feathers in here because it's more of a social issue rather than a sports related matter, but, I have to tell you that I cant ignore this.

I found it real odd that the Mountain View coach was seemingly always shouting out instructions to his players in Spanish, and not in English.

Now, I know there are allot of kids who’s primary language is Spanish, and obviously here are a great many people of Latino origin attending that school, but they got to do better than that to educate our kids.

Now, don’t get me wrong here people, I speak Spanish way better that most folks do in here, primarily because I was born in Mexico, but to tell you the truth, it is a bit disheartening when you see something like that , because it only serves to reinforce the idiotic and raciest BS that so many of these day time radio personalities like to throw out there, at our local Latino community.

These guys are always stereotyping and bashing people of Hispanic origin because of their language and culture, and stuff like this only reinforces their raciest stereotypes.

People, in my opinion, and it's just my opinion, we need to have much more assimilation especially in our public schools .

Just an opinion here, that’s all.

We know it is a tad early, but who decides, and when, all league and valley all star soccer teams are selected, particularly by who?

Fred,

Just wondering why there hasn't been any other stories on the Rosemead Soccer Team? They have made it to the third round and this is the first article I find on them. Don't you think these kids deserve as much attention as the football kids?

Stevie R, posted Manny last night, I'm just in early to get this stuff out to go play a round of golf before tonight's games.

Fred

you posted the Manny thread at 9:42pm last night, and then you put all this other stuff up at arround 6am the following morning.

Yikes !

I thought I was the only night owl in here, so I guess it begges the question here, did she throw ya out of the house last night ?
