La Puente stuns Bishop Amat: There will be a boys soccer champion crowned in a couple weeks, but its hard to imagine a more exciting game and finish than La Puente High School's 4-3 sudden-death overtime victory over Del Rey League champion Bishop Amat on Friday.
After the Lancers battled back from a 3-1 halftime deficit to finally tie it on Aaron Mireles' header in the 68th minute, the Warriors rallied back to pull off the upset in overtime.
Leo Villagrana's cross toward the back post was poked away by Lancers goalkeeper Christopher Mancilla, but sophomore David Ramirez cleaned it up, finishing in the 85th minute to send the Warriors (13-5-5) to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division IV playoffs. "I've always dreamed of something like this," Ramirez said. "I was hoping it would get away (from the goalkeeper) and give me a chance, and to finish and beat a team like Bishop Amat, it's a dream."

another Chino Hills update, the Sierra League champs are playing at La Habra today
:)
Common ground. I like that. Best of luck with baseball and the blog,
My friend, earlier I conceded the point to another blogger in this thread, that there are idiots in the stands, no matter where you go, and in fact, some of those same idiots come right here on this blogg every now and then.
The interesting thing here is that, in the end, it appears that we are both agreeing to the very same point.
And that is that you should have some class even when others don’t.
Well said ! And for what it’s worth, that was only reason for my commenting on the issue to begin with.
Interesting how these things seem to end up in the end, isn’t it?
Cause and result. i have no agenda. Have friends and family at Amat, some on Amat teams, and am making a point you seem incapable of seeing. La Puente's actions, and I wasn't there, might have to do with soem of the issues I've brought up. The words "little championships", "you need to step up" amd others to CO and other SGV schools is what I'm talking about and where the "hate" is coming from. Did La Puente go over the top? No more than Amat does when they call out local schools based on "outlandish comments" on the blog. No one wants to be told they don't measure up especially from a school that has so much to offere it's students while other area schools can only hope to survivetheir high school years and maybe graduate without being shot at or "jumped in". My point is simple really. Have some class even when others don't. LP, based on the comments I've read and things I've witnessed myself, just expressed it's tent up fustration at a bully who finally got theirs. Wrong is as wrong does. There is plenty to go around. That's my point.
I don't hate or wish amat ill anymore than I wish salesian ill. If Salesian was behaving this way I would say the same thing. There is a point to Amat and Salesian being in poor neighborhoods and it's not to act as if the sun rises and sets on us alone.
The funny part is that I thought I did "just figure it out."
Keep in mind that the central point to this discussion was about sportsmanship at the end of a game, that’s all.
You however, took this conversation on a totally different path.
I say again my good friend, you have an agenda here, and it’s obvious as the pyramids are in Egypt.
You know, it seems to me that you’re agenda is not about the central issue that is at play here, but it is about you're overall dislike of Amat.
Oh, and BTW, I want you to know that I really have no problem with that, because in the end, everyone has a right to an opinion in here, no matter how “interesting” it seems to be.
Look, you can try to make you're point seem somehow cute and clever, but in the end you're objectivity is clearly at question here, and to tell you the truth, that is where I have an issue with you.
If you had come in here and spoke of things that pertained to the over all woeful behavior of the bloggers in particular, then I am almost certain that I would have supported you’re position whole heartedly.
However, if you look closely, almost every point you just made, it only reinforces what I have said about you. In fact, lets just take a look at what you have posted here. You're words, not mine:
You said Amat "kick sand in the face of most area teams with half the history"
What ??
You said, "Bishop Amat used to stand for more than Raider Nation rejects"
Where did that come from ??
Now tell me the truth my good friend, what in the world does that have to do with the price of tomatoes, or for that matter, the soccer game?
Jcaz. I know it's hard to beleive but I have no agenda. Apparently you have no mirrors in your house. Reread. There is no Bump Blank Egypt unless you think you're teh center of the World...which apparently is the problem. La Puente beat you. Ouch to you and Props to them. Salesian was State Champs last year while outscoring opponents 200 to 9 over that run. And Eygpt was the center of Civilization for quite some time...ever hear of the Pyramids? Cleopatra? The Nile?
"Denial".... I know you know. Bishop Amat used to stand for more than Raider Nation rejects and "sand kickers" who love to challenge down.
Your school, your house. No community hate on Loyola or Damien, why is that? Best of luck figuring that out.
No Salesian Hate, why's that?
Wow…that was interesting.
You know, at first, when I read you’re thread I thought that perhaps you were making you’re comments because of the fact that you were new to this blog, and perhaps you did not see both sides of the “coin” so to speak.
However, the more I read you’re comments, the more I realized that I could not be farther from the truth.
The fact is that you have an agenda, and that agenda isn’t so much about how the Amat faithful should behave on this forum, but rather it was a diatribe about how much you dislike Amat in particular.
Now, I have to tell you that the reason I say this, is because if you were in fact, as objective as I think you perceived yourself to be, then, you’re comments would have been more even handed, instead of being directing so much at Amat, in general.
Never mind the fact that there are folks out there that who truly act the way you just described.
I will concede that point right here and now.
However, you conveniently left out the fact that these exchanges are usually brought about because, someone comes in here, and says something completely outlandish, and of course, a blogger feels compelled to respond in kind.
BTW, do you really truly believer that the Northview or Charter Oak stuff is all about “spoiled arrogant children jealous that someone else has a new toy.” I mean, do you really believe that? Come on!
BTW, I have to tell you that while you made some sort of “comparative” comment regarding Amat and Damien, all I have to say is, geez, where do I start?
I mean, just look at all the stuff that been coming out of this blog ever that last few weeks.
As for Salesian, well, these guys are not even a part of this discussion, or even a part of this side of the planet, are they ???
I mean, we might as well start talking about some school out in “Bum Fudge Egypt” or something if were gonna go there !
Yikes !
wow
Bishop Amat clearly you have called the kettle black. Most of the Amat bloggers come on here and minimize CO's Championshio and kick sand in the face of most area teams with half the history and 1/10 the financial backing in sports.
As a former Catholic school student and current Catholic school parent I would never ever diminish the efforts of parents looking to get their children an opportunity to shine and succeed no matter what course they took.
My parents, neither one of which went past the third grade, came to this country with the hopes of giving their children something they never had, boundless opportunities. Eight kids and one paycheck. My Dad retired after 40+ years with BF Goodrich. Yes they sacrificed and eat a little crow from time to time but never did they believe they were any better than the family next door who made other choices.
I chose purposely not to send my kids to Bishop Amat after sending my kids to St. Louis of France because I believed there were far better academic choices than Amat and the social fabric of the school left much to be desired.
Yes Bishop Amat is great for sports and maybe something more but if in the end it fosters a sense of entitlement and arrogance than clearly Amat has lost it's way.
I heard it far too often from Amat backers and bloggers who love to pick fights and put the SGV schools down and it's an travesty. Count your blessing. You all had parents, or are parents, who have the "ability" to make that commitment but don't fool yourselves into thinking it entitles you to anything more than the next guy. Humility and Honor are virtues non exclusive to Catholic schools.
This year instead of Bishop Amat congratulating Charter Oak they have behaved like spoiled arrogant children jealous that someone else has a new toy. Same thing happened last year with Northview's Championship Baseball team.
My brother in law coached some of the Northview players when they were little kids. The Beltran Brothers used their own money for just about everything from shoes, to bats to gloves to entrance fees. Some kids have it tougher than others.
When teams hate you or yell things at you like has been discussed here I wonder why Bishop Amat acts surprised. I know far too many Amat grads that have accomplished nothing after their parents sacrificed so much, and that's a crying shame. Especially when your parents are Amat alumni as well.
I have never met a Salesian parent or student who has ever belittled Roosevelt or Garfield or pretended that somehow their accomplishments were less than Salesian"s. We were taught at Salesian that we were blessed to have parents who sacrificed so much for us. And that's it. Nothing more.
Go to any Salesian Alumni Event and there will be many schools represented in the crowd, all invited and all respected and welcomed. Salesian understands and appreciates their "blessings" in ways that Amat has apparently forgotten. What good is being a beacon if it's tainted by boorish behavior.
Bishop Amat needs to clean up it's act here in the SGV and stop acting like they are anything more than they really are. Fortunate but no better than anyone else.
It's better to be admired and respected than to confuse perceived "envy and jealousy" with what it really...your misplaced and inflated arrogance being pushed back in your face.
By the way Damien's Debate Team is the No.1 Debate Team in the country ! A distinction they earned without any fanfare or look at me "noise"...for the second year in a row. Take notes.
Warrior Pride
I think that you're missing the point here.
The issue is not the fact that La Puente did not earn respect for a hard fought victory against Amat yesterday, but it is in the way the team demonstrated it's sportsmanship after the game was won.
When you win, show the same class that you would have shown if you had lost.
BTW, I have to say that I am happy for you that you’re parents did not waist their money on you by giving you a catholic education. I am sure that what ever you received was good enough for you, so I am at a loss as to why that point seemed to be so important for you to make, especially when you have taken the “high road” in this discussion.
Having said that, I will however, concede one point to you here, and that was that what blogger "John T" wrote down below me here, was truly way out of line.
I cannot speak for him, or anybody else of course, but perhaps his reaction was mostly motivated by the events that he saw on the field, after that game yesterday.
Maybe not.
On more thing here and that is to the blogger "PROUND WARRIOR."
I have to tell you that there are going to be idiots in the stands no matter where you go, and to tell you the truth, I saw a few at the game myself yesterday.
For what it's worth, most of those folks that you described were kids and not adults.
That still doesn’t excuse their behavior, but those people where not the ones who were out there playing the game, on that field yesterday.
A significant distinction here don’t you agree ?
For the record, the Amat parent did not correctly spell "lawyer". I will put the best LPHS student up against any Amat student anytime. Did Amat have a National Merit Scholar last year?
John T
Just relax . Money cant buy you everything. I'm illegal and my son is going to Amat.
Wow! What I am reading from this blog blows me away. As a La Puente High School supporter I was simply proud to see our boys defeat a school that we have not traditionally been able to defeat in many sporting events. What I get in return is hate filled diatribe. Although this type of behavior does not surprise me I was hoping that it wouldn't rear its ugly head. As a child of undocumented immigrants myself, which I am sure many Amat students and their parents also are, I will confidently put my accomplishments and contributions to this country up against anyone. If this loss was so humiliating to you that you need to resort to insulting teenage boys then your actions speak for themselves. This only reinforces that my parents made a sound decision by not wasting their resources on a Catholic education. Now I eagerly anticipate our boy's second round matchup while the arrogant and myopic Amat parents continue to write those tuition checks. GO WARRIORS and don't let anyone get you down!!! You were classy on the field against Amat and don't listen to those who are looking for ways to undermine your victory.
Warrior Pride since 1915.
I'm a lawer...,
Yes a typical LP parent can't even spell "Lawyers".
They're calling us names...they're making fun of us...wah wah wah!!! Amat cry babies, quit your whinning! Your team got beat by a better team...that's what the playoffs are all about. Now take your little soccer balls and go HOME!!!
Typical La Puente. Typical Public Schooling. No Class is all I can say. Most of the kids on the field are residents of La Puente and some from West Covina (I said Most) The differance in the rude act from the parents of La Puente and their players is not solely based on a victory in Soccer but in the financial part. Jealousy seeing how as a Amat Parent you pay money and sacrafice as parents to send your kids to Amat for better leaning and we set our goals high for our kids, where the La Puente Parents drive their escalades with the spinners, teach their kids no manners and could care less what their children do after HS. Hey La Puente parents, your kids at LPHS may be the Warriors but at Amat we send our kids there to be the next Lawyers. Peace out! By the way how many of your LP players are Illegals?
guerrero from workman was d up from the cathedral players they stole the balls like 6 times from him he is overrated for a sophomore at workman after the 2010 team graduates who will be with him. and from the workman coach he is pretty dumb he cant coach for nothing. one of your guards had 2 fouls with 6 minutes left in the first and u dont take him out and he picks up a third in the first qrt with 5 min left come on. what an idiot, if u would have took him out the game could have been close then 20 points. your players dont listen to you maybe workman should get another coach.
Congratulations La Puente, on a well earned victory.
I just caught the tail end of the first half and the start of the second, so I did not see the end of the game.
However, "if" it is true that the La Puente players behaved as they did at the end of the game, then for shame!
My friends, to win with dignity and to show the sportsmanship that you're opponent deserves at the end of a game, is something that should not have to be taught to high school kids by adults.
Rather, it should be an expectation learned long before they took the field today.
Perhaps the La Puente players learned something today, but maybe it was not what their coaches should have taught them long ago.
Such a pity really
AMAT GOOD AT SOCCER??? lol AMATS soccer team is nothing special. You lost to LP for a reason because they were better, come on! Amat should've never been in the TOP 10 sgv poll...

come on CIF.. some of these teams dont even belong in such crappy divisions...
excuse me were you even at the game proud warrior? Talk about being rude. Every time the Amat goalie would kick the ball the LP fans would yell PUTO and every time the cheerleaders would do a cheer the LP fans would mock them. When the two teams shook hands LP players were saying nasty words in Spanish like if our players didnt know what they were saying. I would always tell my kids never read these posts that is of people being rude with nothing to do but feel better by telling off someone else. This time I am writing cause its always everyone against Amat. We are very proud parents of Amat . Take our kids there for a reason and we know how hard it is but just because we pick this great school is no reason for others that cant think in sacrificing for their children tell our own off. Come one they are kids we had our time don't take it out on them cause its a private school. Our boys had a bad day but they are a better team even your best player said it was amazing to win against Amat. Amat is Don Lugo Champs And League Champs. They worked hard this year. Had great season proud of you guys Amat!
It was great watching La Puente defeat Amat on their very own field. It was especially great because the Amat fans were rude and made deragatory comments about the LP players. It is great to humble people who are full of themselves for no reason. Our boys did not give up when Amat tied them game and came out in OT and showed what they are made of. Now that LA and Wilson are out it is pretty clear that LP has the predominant soccer program in the LP/Hacienda Heights area. I hope that parents and students in the area take heed. I am also excited to see what our baseball team will do. They are looking extremely good under our new coaches. It's time to start giving LP some credit!!!
B.P. WINS 1-0
GO BRAVES !!!!
Last year's State Champions ...SALESIAN starts their playoff run with an 11 - 0 victory. Oaks Christian cheated us out of a CIF Championship but the Mustangs regrouped and won the State Title instead!
Maybe with all the LVL Basketball dodging by area coaches Coach Cooper should give Salesian a call. We'll play anybody...any place...any time !
Let's go Mustangs !!!!

I'll update scores later tonight, I have to go to a basketball game now. If any of you get back, post the results...
La Puente 4, Bishop Amat 3 in sudden death.

Any news on DR boys soccer game at University?
Excuse the typo, SAV has 23 wins, not 223.
Piggybacking on the boys story, it looks like there are only four SGV girl teams left in Division IV. The DRanch first round win gets them a game with Santa Ana Valley, the top seed at 223-0-1 and with 123 goals; Amat goes up against Santa Ynez; Coin flips decide home team for those games; Los Altos travels to Cathedral City; and LaSalle gets San Gorgonio at home. All next Tuesday.
fred u think west co dnt have a chance they would prove everybody wrong today its going to be a big game an westcovina its going to meke history this year
CIF Soccer...best time of the year...
