stop talking and play ball.dont think northveiw will hit nicko, they didnt hit him last season in the playoffs as a junior,, what makes you think as a senior they can..and if not for that horse sh-- call for the homer northveiw ump the bearcats would be whereing the ring.. time will tell i could be wrong.it happened once in my life time before...got to see bonita over the weekend.they look pretty big and strong, and the bench is filled with strong and fast sophmores from undefeated fressman team last season.its only going to make the starters better or they wont be playing long. good coaching staff, good players.great season ahead.

They are always asleep and coach Hoff has not done shi- with the talent he had over the last 5-6 years, so what makes you think that this year is any different.?

Coaching Change is needed for that Walnut HS baseball program to be sucessful.

You better hope those unclassmen help the cause this year because your seniors are not very good at pitching or hitting.

Some of the best baseball will come out of D IV. Just look at the top 3 teams. Northview, Amat and St. Paul. 2 Divisional winners and a finalist.

I agree, watch out for St. Paul. They went to the finals last year with a team primarly made up of sophmores and SS that was a freshman.

They've got at least 4 guys that will go D1 and they are deep pitching wise this year.

Season starts in one more week!

Thanks, Joe. What's better than HS baseball? My kid played travel ball for years with some of the NV and other area schools kids on the MP Angels, and on teams that always hooked up with the local SGV powerhouses (Hurricanes, CO Stars, Bombers, Storm, etc) in USSSA and other tournaments, and what we all learned from that is: 1. The kids that were good as 12-14 year olds, for the most part, are the dudes today. Richie Pedroza was an awesome player as a tiny 11-13 year old. He was slick and could switch hit well as a tyke; and 2. that kids can play everywhere. I mean, everywhere. We saw an amazing team from Minnesota one time in Las Vegas. Huge 14 year olds throwing 90 with command. Baseball is baseball.

In the local SGV/Whittier/La Mirada/La Habra/Brea area we have some great baseball; just as good as anywhere else. A blessing for us baseball nuts!

poet,

come back and visit often. I've been trying to tell people that for years... but they rarely get out of the SGV to find out on their own!

How much research do any of these coaches do before they vote? La Serna, in going 20-9 last season, beat Crespi, Elsinore, Paloma Valley, La Mirada, and 3rd place leage mate California 3X, lost an even game 2-1 to a good South Hills team in the Quarters, yet the coaches rank LS no higher than 7th, and below Cal? What's up with that? It doesn't really matter, but it shows that it is not based on any seruious research. A lot can happen in a baseball season, but the LS group this year could contend for a title.

Best team not listed: D3 Downey, for sure. They can play; just like the awesome SGV kids at Northview, Amat, CO, San Dimas, etc, they and LS have veteran travel ball/Junior Olympics kids who have been on good teams which routinely compted well with the OC/IE kids. Ivory Thomas is a Kirby Puckett-type kid with legit skills; he's signed with CS Fullerton already. Watch- they will beat Paramount for the league title.

The Glendora Tourney will be a very good tourney and Northview should be playing in the Championship game, but I'm not quite sure it will be against Amat. The team in division IV all should be careful of is St. Paul they are very young and have a lot of returners, look for them to be at or near the top in the end.

La Serna has a stud pitcher named Ben Burke. This kid will play the next level

poet said:

The divisions don't mean much when looking at DI through D4 among the elite teams. Northview is just as good as Los Al; La Serna beat both La Mirada and Crespi last year, yet St. Paul beat LS last year; Sonora routinely has competed with top D1 and D2 teams. Having seen Los Al (DI) last year and Crespi (DIII), Crespi was better. More studs. I think that the divisons only mean someting on average: the bottom tier teams in a DI league will almost always be better than the bottom tier DIII or DIV teams, but at the top levels, there's not that much difference.

Just Asking said:

How many National Championships has Glendora won to be in two divisons higher than Amat?

Just asking?

lancer said:

You are right on, Fred. I'm a La Serna fan but I know that Bonita has a very good, CIF contender team. The coaches rank California ahead of LS, yet they came in third in Del Rio and lost three straight in league to LS in 2008 and they lost all of their guys except for two. LS returns 9 seniors, including 5 decent pitchers and 4 3 year varsity guys. The polls are based on hype and rep, mostly. It will all play out on the field, but absolutely, Bonita should be top ten.

BTW: Division IV is stacked! Better than DIII, I'd say.

oooops no need to post DI polls, as the hotbed of BB, the great sgv, has nobody in that group! oh well if the trib doesn't post it, they must not play, right? lol

I hope Norhview and Amat meet in the Finals of the Glendora Tourney. It would be great for the SGV. No need for trash talking about either school just kids playing their hearts out.
