Manny says thank you, but no thank you

Manny Ramirez rejected the Dodgers' latest offer.

Manny Ramirez just got back to the Dodgers, whose latest offer to the slugger was $45 million for two years, with the second year including a player option. And the answer was thank you, but no thank you.
What now? Hopefully, the will continue to talk and they can eventually reel him in.
But if the Dodgers are intent on signing a Ramirez, I'll take $3 mill for three years.

Remember Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons?

He used to say, "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today"

THAT'S Frank McCourt and the Dodgers. They're trying to tell Manny that they'll pay him in 2013 if he plays for them this year. Would YOU take a job if they deferred your salary until 2013. He got Manny for FREE last year.

McCourt is the bad guy in this (with Boras close behind)

Think Blue?
Manny only thinks Green.
If anyone thinks Manny cares about L.A.Fans or Dodger blue, you have another thing coming.
He needs to grow up and stop acting like a spoiled little girl.He will sign with the Dodgers. As soon as he dosn't preform the fans will turn on him. Ask any Boston fan.

Manny Signs with the Dodgers and low and behold he gets injured. Seen it many times. Driefort a very good example. If he signs with the Dodgers I bet he does not play a full season and comes up with some BS excuse that he is injured and sucks up the guranteed money. Dunp this a-hol- already.

Good point Don... I just now read the article online and it does (kinda) change things...

That said... I think the Dodgers have negotiated well within their means and rights... Boras has no other team and is wants badly for the Dodgers to bid against themselves (something he's had major success with in the past… Kevin Brown and Darren Dreifort come to mind)

Manny has only himself to blame.. he wanted to test the free agency market and got burned... (Boras too) Lets not forget, Manny could have stayed in Boston this year and make $20 million (non-deferred) and have another option to make the same in 2010. Dodger fan doesn't care (or probably know for that matter) what he did in Boston for them to "give him away" to the Dodgers... He's reaping what he sewed...

Last year, without Manny, the Dodgers would've drawn over 3 million fans... and while Manny infused interest and even attendance, Dodger fan, with or without Manny will still go to the Stadium over 3 million strong... my opinion..

I still think Manny will be a Dodger, but not before he and Boras eat major crow...

Arriba!

Hey Steve- will you take that $3 million in deferred payments??

I would rather give the money to the Octomom.Send Manny with a one way ticket to Cuba and see if he can make that money there.Castro would just pay him in pencils.

Walk away Dodgers this guy is trouble as you can see by his holding out. He is what Terrell Owens is to the Cowboys and what Stephon Marbury was to the Knicks. A Dennis Rodman. Dodgers, let Manny sign elsewhere and go with the Farm. Cheaper with no distractions. Manny's a malcontent and you are stuck with his BS once he signs. Let him be someone elses problem. Walk away while you still can.

F-Manny,

I am sick and tired of this Greedy dude. Sure he can mash but he and his agent are playing games with the Dodgers. Manny is doing what NFL players do when they do want to go thru training camp. Have a contract issue and then report late. Manny is pulling the same shi- and will eventually sign with the Dodgers. He is just holding out so he does have to endure the practice that goes along with getting ready for the season. This is the first sign of Manny being Manny and the reason the Red Soxs dumped his a--. Manny marches to his own tune, Joe Torre or not. The Dodgers should just walk away , they are getting played by all of this. He wants to play baseball then he will sign with the offer the Dodgers have there. Eventually the Dodgers will walk away from Manny if they haven't already. A Domincan that grew up poor and he is being offered alot of money here and he turns up his nose to it. He should think of where he came from, poverty, and stop acting like he some kind of prince that baseball owes him something. Good riddance Manny the Dodgers dont need your foolish antics and your BS anymore. I am a Season ticket holder and will support the Dodgers without Manny win or lose.

Anyone see the Times online this AM?

Looks like the REAL deal offered by the Dodgers is for $10-million in 2009, $10-million in 2010 (if Manny picks up the option), with the remaining $25-million paid over 2011-2013.

THIS IS WAY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT FRANK AND NED SAY THEY OFFERED. And yeah, when you get into eight figure yearly salaries the “unreality” factor really kicks in, but the fact remains, the Dodgers appear to be lying about what they asking Ramirez to accept.

Move on Dodgers, screw this guy. They keep offering him more money ,nobody will be able to go to the ball games and take their families. The only people there will be the bank execs.Bring in some young talent from your farm teams, the way you use to.Paying all that money like they did with Andrew Jones was insane. Its a joke!!

I am getting tired of the dodgers-ManRam act and time to pull the plug and prepare to play the season without MR. In defense of Manny the sticking point is the dodgers want to defer the money as reported in the LATimes today. McCourt is in a financial bind like most of us in tough economic times. With President Obama's new tax plan better to get the money now before his plan takes effect where the rich will take care of the poor.
Wait until next year and look for a non Boras free agent as the dodgers have more expiring contracts next year. Perhaps they should sign Jim Edmonds for this upcoming year.
