Football: Still waiting ...
What's taking so long to fill the head football coaching jobs at South El Monte, Duarte, La Puente and Western Christian? With spring football so close, administrators better get on it, especially those looking to move "in a new direction."

Something that should be noted not a single regular LA blogger has come on this thread and made a comment, at least with their real name. Also that as of a this weekend the child was still in the hospital and the other child was still in jail.
The lookout is being treated as a junvinal that is why he isn't in jail. I guess the real concern of the school district is they have a no tolerance on drugs. Both these kids have been found with drugs multi times and at least one time has been reported. If you haven't figured it out, LA gets around the rule by not reporting all the incidents. As we can all see the chief of police for the school district did lie, "no weapon was used". I guess his answer is going to be that a pen isn't considered a weapon.
LAparent,
Last time I checked kids don't stab other kids in the face multi times with a pen or pencil, break their jaw, break their ribs and put them in the hospital for multi day (still in the hospital).
Another note that has not be reported, the victim had no marks on his knuckles, didn’t even have a chance to defend himself.
Last time I checked kids don't go to jail for multi days (still in jail) for an everyday fight.
You are a perfect example of what is wrong at LA.
HEY FRED DIDNT U SAY THEY WERE NAMING THE DUARTE COACH 2 WEEKS AGO? STILL NADA?!? STOP LYING TO US OR DO SOME RESEARCH!!
I know the two kids that committed the attack in this incident; I have known one of them for about seven years and the other for four of five years. These kids use to be good kids and still could be good kids. My issue is the way LA handled their situation and the end result. Now the big cover up about what really happen. The school district and at the school are doing everything possible to hide what really happen. I am being told by the kids that attend the school that pressure is being put on them to keep their mouths shout about the situation. One kid was told yesterday by a teacher; not to talk about the incident. If that student talked about the incident then the teacher would have to assume that child knew something about it and would have to send the child up to the office. Then the teacher told the child that he would then be considered a rat by all his other classmates. Now you have the chief of police for the district making a public announcement that is a flat out lie. We wonder why our kids are so messed up, look at the example. Once the undocumented history of these two kids is discovered by the victims family there is going to be a major lawsuit. These kids should have been expelled from this district a long time ago. If they were treated like a regular student then this would have never happen.
Yes I just talked to one of the kids that was in the gym when the two kids attacked this kid. She told me that multi people saw the two of them walk into the restroom of the gym after the victim. Then the two kids walked out and a few seconds later the victim came out and fell to the ground. This eye witness saw a hole in his forehead and in his chin; she didn't notice one in his neck. The victim is still in the hospital. The kid is still in jail. These kids aren't good kids they have been in and out of trouble from the day they entry the school. They have been caught with drugs multi times. I am sure that the LA administration is going to try and put some spin it so they can keep the lookout. He is a key player on offense and defensive. I mean that is really what it all is about, accord to LA administration at least.
this was a fight between two kids in HIGH SCHOOL. its no different than from any other school.
Saladays and LA football,
I was referring to the 1 incident and 1 incident only.
I was also stating that the facts should be obtained first. As you can see LA football parent clearly states that he got the so called version of events from numerous people.
Let me ask you a simple question. Were all these people that supplied the infromation there? If so why didn't they stop this. Don't worry I already know the answer. No they were not there. So they are only passing on information that they picked up somewhere from someone else.
As you can see the initial report of this is different from the real story. When people pass on second hand infomation the story can tend to be added to and change due to the understanding and interpretation of the individuals.
All I meant to say and I think I said it, is that b4 something is reported as fact make sure you have them. Not second hand info that someone told you and now you claim it to be a fact.
As for the LA admin and the cover up part. I ask what cover up? this happened on tues evening and the the young man was in custody on wednesday. And if you read the trib article, it was the school police chief that stated there was no weapon not the admin.
As a parent I understand the concerns for our childrens safety. I counsel my kids on how I expect them to behave toward others and what to do and not do. I hope and pray that the have learned from me. If I trully believed that my child was in danger somewhere, and I felt that no one was doing anything about it, I would remove them from that enviroment, without considering weather or not they would be eligible for sports somewhere else. Their safety is my only concern.
Well i've said enough on this issue, and I'll say no more.
I am a student/athlete at LA and I would like to say a few words on the beating at LAHS before you state anymore comments.
First off, why are people talking about one of the kids parents? No one knows for a fact that his dad had anything to do with him getting out of jail. So the simple fact that you accused the father having involvement, makes the father seem guilty already. His mother is involved with the football program, but that has no reason for anyone to mention her under this topic.
I happen to know these kids and even be friends with the victim. It is my understanding that the two kids being accused are not the delinquents everyone seems to impose on them, but rather good kids that have done stupid things in their past. (referring to the SINGLE time there were caught with drugs, not multiple times). Also to my understanding, the victim did not get stabbed, but did get beat up by one of the kids not by both of them.
It is still unknown if one of the kids will play next year but that is a matter between the coaches and the parents. So i hope no one jumps to conclusions stating the kid will indeed play.
I hope all of you reading this, understand that this one action, of these individuals should not reflect the Los Altos Football TEAM and Los Altos HS for that matter.
My prayers go out to the victim on a well recovery.
JLP,
I never said this issue was gang related. Some of the kids involved do have gang ties. We all know what it was about, this victim made a girl cry. Both these kids have been involved in drug issues multi times over the last few years. Both have drug related suspensions. Toward the end of the season both kids got caught with drugs for some reason only one was kicked off the team for the year. The other was already on probation and played out the season. This is common knowledge within the LA community. It is going to be real interesting to see if either one of these kids are allowed back, would the school administration dare?
When I brought this issue up earlier I had no proof so all the LA blogger would deny it. Now within a couple of days top freshmen caught with drugs, other LA parents have stated that this kid was told this is his “last chance”. If he wasn’t a football/basketball player he would have been gone a long time ago, but he is still their.
This recent incident there was a total of five starting varsity football players involved; three waiting in the car one was the lookout and the one that attacked the victim. School administration told the kids that the person that attacked the victim was being charged with attempted murder, which doesn’t make sense that they would release the other four. The lookout's dad is in law enforcement that is most likely playing a factor in it. Think about it LA has at most eighteen starters and over 25% of them were involved in that one incident, but no drug and violence issue within LA’s football program.
Once again I would love to hear from those LA bloggers that told me I was crazy over the last couple of weeks?
Speaking of football, if you want to get a laugh at a couple of guys trying to look like they know what they're doing, check out www.midvalleysports.com There is a couple of guys interviewing Matt Koffler of Rosemead. Boys those guys needed to practice a whole bunch more before they went on camera.
Both these two kids got caught with drugs multi times in the last year. Not being football players they would have been expelled from the school, I see a major cover up and a major lawsuit. The truth will come out but when the school district wants it to, months down the line when this issue cools down.
The second child is out of jail, one of the kids talk to him. The child wouldn't say anything about what happen. I am sure he is being advised by a lawyer not to say anything. Buy the letter of the law this child should be charged with the same crime. I am woundering if it has something to do with his father in law enforcement. His mother is very involved with the football team.
rgd2626,
Don't blame lafootballparent for this he has been bringing up these issues at l.a. for 3 weeks now.
I didn't know what to think of it but when there is smoke there is usually a fire.
The children and parents are to blame but so are the administrators and coaches. If you treat players as if they are beyond reproach then they will not worry about consequences.
Look at FSU and Miami it starts at the top.
What's important winning games or to help mold young people.
L.A. and Gano DID WIN GAMES...
Just heard it was not 2 kids, but 1 that beat up the LA boy. The other was outside the restroom. Yes he was stab multiple times with a pencil, after being knocked out after entering the restroom.
LA Footbal Parent I think you need to get all the facts b4 you go and start trashing the whole school. It was not gang or drug related. The facts will come out.
I pray for the young man that was so brutally beaten as I know him personally.
Oh and the boy has been arrested.
Send your kids to Northview its safe there.
I guess like my son’s friend said, a pencil isn’t a weapon.
I got my version from multi people within the school district. What do you consider a weapon? This is another attempt by the school district to brush these major issues under the table. Answer this question; why is it that not a single LA blogger came on this blog and denied any of the comments?
RGD2626,
All Roberts, Harrington, and Gano worried about was keeping these kids eligible to play football. I know for a fact that one of these kids would have been expelled multi times if he wasn't an athletic. Now the school district is covering their ass, major lawsuit.
Did the kid from LA get stab in the face?
If that is true I sure do hope something is done. That is just horrible.
By the way,
I had a chance to talk with Mike Maggiore last week. It was good to talk about West Co. football with him, Looks like the most of the boys are either running track or hitting the weights, next year should be real exciting in Bulldog country.
"The altercation was believed to be personal in nature, he added, though it was not immediately clear what led to the fight."
"Personal in nature" as opposed to professional in nature?
Fred
I have to tell you that murray sucks I put some news on the blog at 2:30 and he still has not put it up. You people over here are so lucky to have Fred. People in the whittier area don't blog because it takes murray all day to put it up boy he SUCKS!!!. I just had to get that out. News is Pete Gonzales is head coach at Montebello, thanks Fred
So now the story goes from
a kid getting jumped and stabbed in the face to a
fist fight between two kids of similar age, either way it's to bad that a kid was hospitalized while in school, I wish him well in his recovery.
LA football parent -
how dare you blame roberts for this. you have no idea what your talking about, while roberts was there you never saw him in his office because he was walking the campus,talking to anyone and everyone around, telling them dont be late, get to class, throw your trash in the basket.the kids were afraid to do anything wrong while he was there. and you (never) see McReynolds OUTSIDE.but its still not his fault. you had done a sad thing coming on here saying what you did.please; do leave and dont come back;
p.s, what ever happened to kids themselves and the kids parents to teach them right and wrong, and (responsibility) !!!
Fred.
Nice jab at the Duarte administration, seems like this "new direction excuse" is being used almost everywhere, it's getting old.
Pretty sad that high school age kids can be that hard and have so much hate in them that they think nothing of stabbing another kid in the face, I agree these kids need to be in jail, and shouldn't play another down of High school ball. Good luck to the victim in his recovery, both mentally and physically.
I can't believe you guys are letting 2 idiots represent the whole school and community. Just because these two jerkoffs decide it would be cool to jump a kid, that does not mean the school is terrible and it's full of gang members.
Does that mean Columbine High School is full of thugs because of the shooting? I didn't think so!
This is the story running online with us now, there will be more tomorrow...Please do not speculate with names or athletes.
HACIENDA HEIGHTS -- A 16-year-old student was arrested Wednesday in connection with an alleged attack that left another student hospitalized with fractured cheek bones, authorities said.
The incident was initially reported by officials as a stabbing, however Hacienda La Puente Unified School District Chief of Police Tony Argot said the incident did not involve any weapons.
The incident occurred about 5 p.m. at the school, located at 15325 Los Robles Ave., sheriff's and school police officials said.
It appeared to be a fight between two students, Argot said.
The altercation was believed to be personal in nature, he added, though it was not immediately clear what led to the fight.
The suspect, whose name was not released due to his age, is expected to be sent to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey, Argot said.
The victim, who was about the same age as the suspect, remained hospitalized Wednesday, officials said.
Hey Los Altos, your football team made the front page for all the wrong reasons...
What are the names associated with the South El Monte Coaching Football job? What about Whittier Christian? Pasadena?
Seems to me that if all this is true and these incidents did happen maybe Fred should if he has not already get some sort of statement from either the school or the district regarding this matter. If it does turn out to be true and I am not saying it isn't it just seems the last thing on parents mind should be the state of the athletic programs. Think first of the safety of a child just going to school to get an education which is really what going to school is all about. Seeing these post on how bad this will be for the program or I will transfer my child so they can continue playing their chosen sport goes along way in many of the post we see on the transferring of students for greener athletic pasteurs to get that almighty scholarship and grand illusion of playing professional sports rather than focus on the educational well being of their child.
wow, i remember parents not wanting to send their kids to workman because it was in a "bad area". but i attended workman and NOTHING like this ever happens. sure there have been a few fights, but which school doesn't have a fight? getting caught with drugs and only being suspended? workman would have expelled the kid and had the police take him off campus, it happened my freshman year. now to all the worried parents in HLPUSD, who school is really unsafe for your students? amazing that this is why workman doesn't get the better athletes in the district because their parents want them to go to "safer" schools. yet at LA, its the athletes attacking other athletes. sad
What happened to all those LA bloggers that were commenting on how safe it is at LA? How ironic we are talking about violence and drugs at LA over the last couple of days. Then one of their star freshmen football players gets suspended for one week, caught with drugs at school. I didn’t realize what was going on until now; this kid is their star football/basketball player. A couple of days after the basketball season ended they catch this kid with drugs, and suspend him for a week. That worked out just great for the school; this kid didn’t miss a single game.
Now two varsity football plays put a kid in the hospital. These kids end up in jail.
No Violence/Gang or Drug issues at LA, yea ok.
I heard that South El Monte is interviewing this week.
I am definitely looking into the private sector; it isn't worth my child’s safety. I heard that Whittier Christen is a really good school private school, anyone have the 411.
yet there are cracks about Bishop Amat being in the barrio! what's important is that wherever we send them to school our kids need to feel safe on campus.
DRUGS IN OUR SCHOOL
Why are we not testing our student athletics, I am hoping there is a legal reason.
I know for a fact that these two kids had drug issues for the last couple of years at LA. I am a parent and aware of the issues. Are you going to try and tell me that the school administration wasn’t aware of the issues? This isn’t the first time a child was sent to the hospital. During the summer they took one football players via helicopter to the hospital after getting attacked at school by a rival gang. LA had seven DOCUMNETED fights in one day. I use the word documented because the majority of the fights the school police can’t get to in time. These issued of gang violence within the football program started last year. There were multi incidents last year that lead to multi kids leaving the program. What is crazy about this is the drug free good kids are leaving the program and the gang related/drugs kids are the ones that are staying. This incident is a direct result of these kids still involved in the program and the lack of support from the school administration
I don't think they almost killed the kid, but I have been told they are in jail. What is so bizarre about that is one of these kids father is a guard at the jails.
If these kids almost killed the young man they ought to be in jail.
The normal enrollment for LA has been around 1,200 for the last 3 decades. The current enrollment is 2,200. It's all about the big $$$$. Where did Los Altos get the extra thousand kids from? Now look what the kids at LA have to deal with. It just isn't worth it; hopefully no one gets killed before the district decides to clean up the mess that they created over at LA.
These kids have been involved in other issue at LA but because they were star football players the administration (Gano, Harrington, & Roberts ) looked the other way. This kid could have been killed. The current Principal, McReynolds is trying to clean up the mess, but let’s be realistic about it, we are looking at least another three years. That is why my son will not be attending LA next year.
If the parent or parents of the alleged victim reads this and wants to discuss it, email me at fred.robledo@sgvn.com.
I don't know what happened at Los Altos, but I have passed this info along to our news people to look into it.
Security is a big issue at LA, my son tells me the teachers say they are the school with the most students in the district and have the least amount of security.
I'm very sadden that we worry about the LA football team losing players than about a very good kid who was cowardly beaten up. I hope the kid and family are doing ok. I wish the kid a quick recovery. This incident is not a reflection of the whole school. Maybe the school needs to have more security to avoid these types of violent acts. parent need to have a bigger role with the kids.
You hit on the head Fred. Duarte, Western Christian had "no new direction" they just didn't like the coaches they had personal reasons.
On another thread someone said L.P. will hire someone already on the campus to coach the team. Hopefully they change their mind a teacher who knows nothing about football doesn't help anyone.
Sorry to hear about the kid from Los Altos no parent wants to receive that phone call.
This is a good kid. A kid who I have had the pleasure to coach. It is too bad we worry about the loss to the LA football team when we could have had a loss of a child. No one deserves to be beaten up in cowardly manner. I hope the family and student recover soon.
The simple answer is yes. If you are concerned for your son's safety; his ability to adequately function at LA, then find a school and apply for the hardship waiver. Include in the waiver any evidence that you deem necessary, Doctor's reports, etc..to support your case.
Posted on other thread;
Update on Soccer Player at LA getting beat up - It wasn't the seniors from the football team. It was two junior starters from the varsity team that attacked this kid. They put him in the hospital last night. It is being reported that one of the kids stabbed this kid with a pen or pencil in the face. This is huge to the LA football program. One of these kids was a key starter on offense and defense and the other was a starter on defense only. The two way player had drug issues his sophomore year and missed part of the season. This is going to be a huge lost to the team, next year.
Posted by: LA Football Parent | February 25, 2009 7:28 AM
You know this is a bad situation at LA. The boy that was beatin up was a real good kid. The kids that did this need to be expelled promptly. I don't care if they are the starting football players at LOS ALTOS. If they don't do something quickly. I will be removing him from the school immediately.
I have a question would this be considered a safety matter? I really fear for my kids health at this school now. I also want him to play sports but he is no longer a freshman and we have no means of moving.
Could I file some kind of hardship or safety issue with CIF?
