GSoccer: St. Lucy's hangs on to No. 1

Above: South Hills player can't believe their 1-0 loss to Walnut. The Mustangs' Krissy Slusser scored with 45 seconds left to clinch the San Antonio League title.

It's unfortunate that you feel that way Ohgoodgod.
As I saw the game both sides battle hard, and it could have gone either way. The LA goal keeper had some good stops, and the defense did their job at the end. As for the dominated part? co did play a better first half, but LA clearly had the second half.
By the way, what "moral victory"? I thought they were playing a game.
I say heck of a job Charter Oak, and congratulations to Los Altos. Glad to see the players were able to shake hands as good sportmanship didtates. Maybe we as parents could learn something from them.
Ohgoodgod,
Hope you enjoy that "moral victory" Last I heard, those kind of victory's dont get you into CIF! That was a great game to watch today, both teams played hard to the very end....Dont go and ruin the CO girls efforts with whining from the parents!
Great job Los Altos.
You scored a lucky goal, an offside goal, and got another lucky shot with CO's own goal.
I applaud you. REALLY, I do.
CO won the moral victory here, because they dominated.
I'm proud of my daughter!
Fred,
you accidentally inserted a space in that last post. I think you meant to say
Los Altos girls will BEAT Charter Oak today at 3:15 p.m.
:)
Los Altos girls will be at Charter Oak today at 3:15 p.m.,
Fred-Not one paragraph-- Not one sentence - in this morning's paper about either the canceled or the re-scheduled games? There are people who rely on the printed word--on paper, not glass, for info. There might be one or two --thousand -- who woke up this morning not knowing --and still not knowing--what happened.
Where did I get my info? I was there. No one faults the CO players for this farce, but some adults sure made a mess of it. The conversations between what looked and acted like a CO administrator, the LA coach, a referee and people on the other end of cell phones was private, but the facts on the ground were obvious. LA was there. CO was not. As for the assumed practice among all the other resulting rumors, what were people left to think? The CO people were pulling a fast one to gain an edge. Whether they were or not, they certainly did. Who makes up for that?
Don't Know,
So you're saying that CO girls didn't even know about the change until TODAY? That's funny because CO admin claims they notified LA of the time change weeks ago (even though LA says they never heard a thing!).
Strange that if they had the time changed weeks ago that even the CO girls didn't find out until today.
CO should forfeit.
What an absolute mess this situation was today. I spoke with Coach Reeder when the LA girls returned home this evening and he was still heated. According to him he was NEVER notified about the change and the first he heard about it was when he arrived at CO and saw the time posted on a sign outside the field.
So there was ZERO notification made by CO. Aren't there contracts that are signed with times on them? What good are those if the host school can just tweek it to whatever they wish?
You gotta be kidding me Charter Oak!
ANOTHER QUESTION SHOULD BE IS CO GOING TO PAY FOR THE BUS LA WILL ONCE AGAIN HAVE TO TAKE TO THE GAME TOMORROW?
IT'S NICE THAT THE CO PARENTS WERE NOTIFIED AT 12 TODAY, BUT REALLY, IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH TO MAKE A CALL TO THE VISITING TEAM. AND WHY WAIT FOR THE DAY OF THE GAME TO TRY (SARCASM MEANT HERE) TO NOTIFY THE VISITING TEAM OF THE CHANGE IN TIME.
unheardof,
"That is more than enough time to allow for changes, and Los Altos was warned by then"
And how is it you know that LA was notified, or "warned" of this change? There are many parents who leave work early and drive some distance to attend these games @ 3:15, it is childish and unsportsmanlike for CO's coach, or whoever to pull a prank like this and waste alot of peoples time and efforts. My only guess is they were trying 'ice' the LA girls and make them sit for 3 hours waiting to play... very unclassy for CO.

Does anyone know the score of the girls Diamond Ranch vs Wilson game today?
Saints took league today with a hard fought 5-3 victory over Northview. Congratulations to our girls and especially our seniors who were celebrating Senior night.
P.S. I saw a Charter Oak player at the Northview game so I am sure they did not get another "practice" in.
diogenes,
Where did you get your information? As another parent on the CO team, I find it that you are apparently more well informed than I am.
I, too, received a phone call at around 12:00 this afternoon from my daughter as she was walking off campus to get lunch. That is more than enough time to allow for changes, and Los Altos was warned by then.
I also received another phone call at about 3:00 letting me know that the game was cancelled.
I do not understand how you got the idea that CO got in another practice. The varsity coach at CO has a better sense of morality than that.
As for the girls, they have no idea as to why the game was rescheduled or cancelled.
Thanks for all of your assumptions.
I am a parent for CO and the kids don't even know why the change was made.
All I know is that I received a call from my daughter saying the game was moved to 5, then a follow-up call that the game was rescheduled to Wednesday.
They did not get any additional training in as my daughter was told to go home and return for the later start prior to getting a phone call about the reschedule.
We are just as confused about this as anyone else. At least all LA has is a game against Wilson to finish out league, CO still has to play Bonita on Thursday.
Ranking the area's girls soccer leagues isn't that difficult in my opinion.
1. Sierra
2. San Antonio
3. Miramonte
4. Valle Vista
5. Mission Valley
6. Montview
I won't count the Del Rey or Christian, there are too many out of area teams.
Just sent you email re crucial LA-CO game. CO never showed up. At their field. Word was they wanted to play at 5pm. LA was there for the scheduled 3:15 contest. JV game went on as scheduled. LA varsity went home. Scuttlebut says CO got in a practice today and have been able to finesse officials for the game to be played Thursday. No forfeit or penalty for today's routine. LA will still have to play their final game the following day at home against Wilson. Where is the justice here? CO is way too talented a team for their officials to play these kinds of games. Giving them an edge like this is more than unfair.
I was all fired up to cover Los Altos at Charter Oak girls today, but the game was postponed until Wednesday because Charter Oak officials failed to notify the Los Altos girls that they were moving the game on Tuesday from 3:15 to 5 p.m. Los Altos coach Chris Reeder did not want to wait, and I don't blame him. Now both teams have to play back-to-back games, Wednesday and Thursday with league titles and playoffs on the line.
Miramonte League..seriously???It is not any tougher than San Antonio. Sierra is hands down the toughest with Del Rey after that.
Bottom line...HS soccer in SGV is weak period. Ask any of the players who play club soccer, expecially the ones that play in premier league. HS is a break from club and social opportunity to play with their HS friends. Nothing more and nothing less for the serious soccer players!
Winning the San Antonio League isn't all that. The League is and has been a two trick pony for some years now. The SA league has 3 out of the 5 teams with losing records. Your second place team, South Hills, has lost to 3 local teams (San Dimas, Glendora and Bishop Amat).
Walnut did play Ayala (loss) and St. Lucy's (Tie) but every other team Walnut and South Hills has played locally were simply stat generators.
The Miramonte, Sierra and Del Rey leagues have much stiffer competition on game by game basis then the San Antonio league will ever have. True..
Walnut does have a good team but let's not go over the top...
"What's new, they beat South Hills again, and win the San Antonio again"
great line...and true.
