Hoops rankings and MVP chase
With the boys basketball playoffs beginning next week, who has the best chance of winning or advancing the furthest in the CIF playoffs? Obviously Diamond Ranch, No. 1 in Division III-A, has the best chance and should be the top seed entering next weeks playoffs, as long as they don't stumble on Thursday in a big non-league showdown at Nogales. Here's a quick look at our ranked teams.

Above: This is how Nogales felt after losing to Diamond Ranch earlier this season. They play again on Thursday at Nogales.
Division III-A
1. Diamond Ranch, 2. Sonora, 3. Harvard-Westlake, 4. Golden Valley, 5 Bonita, others. 13 Charter Oak.
Division II-AA
1. Thousand Oaks, 2. Leuzinger, 3. Glendora, 4. Marina, 5. Huntington Beach, others. 11. Walnut
Division III-AA
1. Cambell Hall, 2. Anaheim Canyon, 3. Santa Margarita, 4. Palm Spring, 5. Nogales, others 16. South Hills
Division IV-A
1.Bishop Montgomery, 2. Serra, 3. Ocean View, 4. Inglewood, 5. Northview, others 7. Bishop Amat, 14. South El Monte
Division V-A
1. Windward, 2. La Verne Lutheran, 3. Brethren Christian, 4. Buckley, 5. Sierra Canyon.
This is about the time we start thinking about the boys basketball player of the year. I'll give you ten choices, and feel pretty good that a player from this list will win it all. In no particular order, here is the top ten candidates ...
Chris Cunningham, Diamond Ranch
Cezar Guerrero, Workman
Garrett Johnson, Diamond Ranch
Manny Acosta, South El Monte
Aaron De Anda, Nogales
Nolan Abernathy, Bonita

sgvfan,
your list seems about right. i'm not sure about any others missing. coaching is about more than just x's and o's. i'm sure Le Duc has that, and i know for a fact flores does. it should be interesting.
Hey Fred who are the favorites in your top 10 for coach of the year:
These guys have done a great job this year.
Coach Roper (Nogales)
Coach Grover (Diamond Ranch)
Coach Eckler (Bonita)
Coach Rice (Northview)
Coach Flores (Workman)
Coach LeDuc (Glendora)
Coach Cameron (Walnut)
Coach Reed (South Hills)
Coach Hart (Baldwin Park)
Coach Burgess (So El Monte)
Coach Cooper (LaVerne Lutheran)
Any other coaches out there that deserve recognition that I may have missed maybe Boomer knows?
Best players in the Valle Vista League:
Anthony Farmer (Northview)
Danny Silva (Northview
Likely to be co-mvp's of the league again.
Other good players in the league are:
Rigel Skinner NV
Chris Barbato SD
Devin Bodney Cov
Tomas Montes BP
Jimmy Ramirez BP
Silva - Bodney
We will see Thursday...
Devin Bodney-Covina
not the best record but a very good player averaging 22 a game in league hes the high scorer in the Valle Vista
You're right about Silva... but, they both are exciting to watch.
SILVA - MVP
IF ANYONE SHOULD WIN MVP, IT SHOULD BE GUERRERO. AFTER ALL, HE WAS FIRST TEAM TRINITY LEAGUE AS A FRESHMAN. I DON'T THINK ANYONE IN THIS VALLEY COULD MAKE FIRST TEAM IN THAT LEAGUE, ESPECIALLY AS A FRESHMAN. AND HES THE HIGHEST SCOUTED PLAYER IN THE VALLEY. I DON'T SEE ANYONE ELSE BRINGING IN AS MANY COLLEGE RECRUITERS TO GAMES AS HE DOES.
fred, you have the rankings wrong for IV-A. the one you have listed now is actually IV-AA. IV-A is: 1.Orange Lutheran 2. Crespi 3.Price 4.Laguna Beach 5.Chaminade 6.Cathedral 7.Santa Clara 8.Oaks Christian 9.Lawndale 10.Workman 11.Valley Christian/Cerritos 12.La Salle 13.Carpinteria 14.Salesian 15.Fairmont Prep 16.Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks.
You're right, I'm still having a tough time between Farmer and Silva. I'm curious who coaches will vote as the league MVP between the two. They both average about the same, but Silva gets boards and does the dirty work on defense.
Have you seen Northview play Fred? Anthony Farmer makes that team go and they are definitely one of the top teams in the area when they get going like the fourth quarter of that damien game. When its all said and done Northview will be one of the top teams in the valley
You're right, I don't doubt that Bobby is a fine player too, I just think CJ is worth more to the overall success of the team.
I understand that, but if Cj never came then Bobby would be right there in the race for valley mvp and you know it.
Because Bonita and Diamond Ranch compete on a much higher level. Winning the Montview isn't the same as winning the San Antonio or Miramonte.
Hey fred, if you got two guys frm dranch and two guys fro nogales then how come you don't have Bobby Miles from Workman also with Cj? Cj success is a product of Bobby as is Bobbys success is a product of CJ.
I mean any coach would want both of these guys on their team. I think both should be co-mvp for that league.
