I'm glad I wasn't there just another blow out playoff game for workman. I think even sherman oaks notre dame is going to be to much for them tomorrow. But we will see. Even tho they only won 1 game in league they had to face some pretty good competition. The adjustment for workman is going to be harder. Similiar to the adjustment memphis has to make every year once the tournament starts.

Fact! said:

sgvpride,

u sure missed out cause they had both AFFLALO & GABE PRUITT on the squad...i have no idea how CIF can think this is fair

Compton Centennial 66, Workman 39-- The Apaches, who forfeited 11 games this season due to using an ineligible player jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter. Senior guard Anthony Davis, who has signed with Long Beach State scored 14 oints as tdid Timothy Eli, a senior forward. Compton Centennial will play at Santa Ynez on Friday night. Centennial scoring: Roscoe Biggers 4, Affalo 6, Eli 14, Burrell 5, Byrd 3, Pruitt 8, Griffin 5, Davis 14, Barnes 7. Workam scoring: Silva 6, Lemus 15, Acezedo 6, Larees 6, Morales 2, Fuentes 2, Rosales 2.

1st round 2001...Workman vs. Centennial/Compton

boomer said:

sgvpride,

i think this happened in the second round back in 03 or 02. im not sure. but i do remember hearing about compton cenntenial coming in and dunking all over workman. i'm not sure if they had aaron or not.

little birdie said:

Are you F-in kidding me? Like we have any say in what league teams we play. As a matter of fact I don't have a lawn to mow. Simple facts jack a--. I am sure Aaron was excited about the prospect of coming to BP. You're an idiot! Keep your racist attitudes out of the public eye moron!

sgvpride said:

Fact!

I don't remember CC coming to workman with that team. I was around during those years. The string of home games started 3 years back. I can't recall afflalo coming to la puente. I know I would have recalled that.

WHITE TRASH? ARE YOU SERIOUS?? WHO ARE YOU CALLING WHITE TRASH? YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING. DON'T YOU HAVE A "WHITE TRASH"'S LAWN TO CUT? PLAIN AND SIMPLE, BP IS A JOKE. YOU GUYS ARE PROBABLY GOOD AT LIKE SOCCER OR SOMETHING, BUT YOU'D NEVER HANG IN BASKETBALL WITH ANY SCHOOL. THATS WHY YOU PLAY TEAMS LIKE GANESHA AND POMONA. YOU GUYS RECRUITED AARON HARRIS JUST LIKE UGLYY SAID IN ANOTHER THREAD. SO DON'T SIT HERE AND CRY ABOUT IT NOW JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO ATHLETES AT YOUR SCHOOL.

EVERY TIME I HEAR BALDWIN PARK AND I CAN'T HELP BUT ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

boomer said:

Fact,

i agree. all these weak montview league games have been over by halftime if not the end of the first quarter. the lobos better be ready to play a full game for 4 quarters.

Fact! said:

I just hope Workman does not take Notre Dame lightly because of there record they had a brutal schedule and they lost some close games...Records some times dont tell the real truth a couple years ago Compton Centenial with Arron Afflalo came into Workman with an under 500 record and ended up loosing in the championship to Bishop Montgomery by 2pts...The biggest concern is Workman hasnt played a real team since X-MAS

4 month King said:

now I know how the Baseball teams feel when they see Bishop amat in a low level division. it blows big time.

playing the best in season is one thing but sprinkling cif championships just to get a patch is plain old good old boys back stratching

olu, nd, crespi ? wow that's pretty disgusting

if bihop is good enough to be nationally recognized and good enough to get invited to national baseball tournaents and hold their own then they belong in the top baseball divion. their football team proved that they can compete when they have coaches so teh problem is caching isn't it and not population or anything else.

no great programs function in and of itself. it takes administrative resolve, parental commitment and an allocation of time and energy and funds. the above mentioned schools can and do so they don't belong in lower level programs.

why can't Bishop Amat, like very other school on the planet take their lumps? Amat playing such lower level programs ? Come on guys have some pride. Maybe Workman will hold up your end of the King Of The Valley throne until football starts.

Northview does it for you in baseball and Damein does it for you in Soccer.

King for 4 months is not a King at all...don't you agree?

boomer said:

joe amat,

i stand corrected.

Fact,

i can see workman getting passed Notre Dame and Cathedral, then into a dogg fight with Price. at that point i just hope the lobos can come out with a win. if we can beat up on ND, then i'd say we got a shot to go deep. but first we gotta shut down a pair of 6'6 guys and one 6'7 guy.

Fact! said:

Workman has some tuff teams in its division and probably have no chance of winning more than 2 games but atleast they dont have to see Bishop Montgomery,Harvard Westlake,Compton Centenial,Mayfair anymore cause those games are just not fair...I have no idea how teams like Crespi,Price & OLU are down this far that is a joke...Crespi played D1 last year now they r DIV...

2000 Rematch against Notre Dame this time they come here...great game but maybe this time we can make a 1&1 with under a minute left and win the game...GO LOBOS

little birdie said:

ZZZZZZZZZZZZ, I can guess which school you attend or support! The racism that exists at your school will never end because your school is full of white trash. You obviously don't read these threads because the past couple of days BP has been a topic of discussion. The only part of your thread that might make sense is the fact that we don't recruit because what would be the point. Why would we even try? Our kids plays their ass-- off and get nothing in return! Keep your racism to yourself. Maybe your kind will go away!

Joe Amat said:

boomer,

We played Long Beach Poly and they're about as big and public as it gets.

boomer said:

joe amat,

didn't they do that this past season? if im correct they did.

Joe Amat said:

boomer,

Nowhere in the Southern Section have they ever separated public and private schools in football.

Joe Amat said:

little birdie,

Basketball was enrollment based from 1989-2006. The last two years, as Steve mentions, they moved entire leagues around based on number of playoff wins the league had over time. Unfortunately, in many cases those wins came from the same teams and the bottom teams that entered the playoffs were way overmatched.

This new "hybrid" system is a good idea. Start with enrollment and have individual schools move up or down based on success over the past four seasons.

The key is that STATE playoffs are enrollment based, so doing anything else creates chaos when trying to enter Southern Section teams into the State Tournament.

boomer said:

if they seperate private and public schools for football, why don't they do it for basketball? if they did that, we'd probably have a annual cif champ in the valley like we can have now with football.

good luck to all the teams. play hard, and stay safe.

zzzzzzzzz said:

LITTLE BIRDIE

NO ONE CARES ABOUT BP. YOU GUYS ARE NOT HOME GROWN. YOU GUYS TRY TO RECRUIT, BUT NO TALENTED ATHLETE WANTS TO ATTEND THAT SCHOOL. PASSING BY THAT SCHOOL MAKES ME FEEL LIKE IM IN MEXICO, WITH ALL THOSE BEANERS WHO LOOK LIKE GARDENERS. HAHAHA.STOP TALKING ABOUT YOUR SORRY ASS SCHOOL. IF SOMEONE CARED ABOUT BP, THEY WOULD BRING THEM UP. BUT THEY DONT. THE BASKETBALL THREADS ARE ABOUT THE GOOD SCHOOLS.

little birdie said:

Steve, for someone that has been around a while I am dissapointed in you. Basketball has not been broken up by enrollment for a while now. This year is the first year back that way!
BALDWIN PARK gets screwed again! Another great season, playing with home grown kids, and their reward? Playing against Damien. Another school that is able to recruit. Covina wins something like 6 or 7 games and gets to play a South El Monte team that they will probably beat. Little schools that do the right thing don't have a chance! Sad but, that is the way our society has gone. Like Romey says on the radio, "if you're not cheating you're not trying." Cheater continue to get ahead and the people who do it the right way get fu----.

???? said:

fred and steve,

who do you think will be the last team standing?

I think you are trying to judge Notre Dame, Orange Lutheran and Crespi by their recent prowess on the football field. Remember, each sport is judged differently. CIF-SS has divided their divisions in basketball by enrollment since 1989. ND, OL and Crespi, enrollment-wise, are small schools, just like Amat is. There has been no reason to bump any of those three up. OL hasn't won a CIF-SS boys title; ND hasn't won one since the early 1990s, and Crespi won its last in 2002. The Amat girls, meanwhile, won three consecutive III-A titles between 2004-06, was in the finals in 2003 and went to the D-III state finals four consecutive years between 2004-07. CIF-SS determined, that by winning a division three consecutive seasons and advancing to the finals four consecutive seasons in the same division, was grounds to be bumped up to the highest division, I-AA. But after losing in the quarterfinals two years ago, and in the second round last year, they were dropped to II-AA. I give CIF-SS some credit for trying to find the right balance.

Stupid Is As Stupid Does said:

Come on Steve..that's a rapid up and down for Amat.

OLU and ND and Crespi that low

Stupid reasoniing all the way around

Basketball is still done by enrollment, but also with a catch now. Schools who had particular success in one division, like Bishop Amat girls in Division III, are now bumped up, like Amat was last year when due to their dominance the previous years was moved up to I-AA. They were bumped down to II-AA this year. I think the rule was put in to apease the anti-parochial sentiment, which hit high levels a few years ago when four of the six teams to win boys title games at Honda Center were parochial schools. Not that I disagree or agree with the new guidlines, just explaining why the divisions are set up the way they are.

That's right Workman is turning there Basketball program around for the boys and the girls. These kids put in hard work during the week and when they go out there and play it shows. These kids deserve home court advantage and respect for their hard work.

Completely shameful said:

Orange Lutheran, Oaks Christian and Price, Costa Mesa, Crespi are in the same division as Salesian and Workman?

Why do people complain about competition? I mean O Lu, Oak Christian, Crespi and Notre Dame field Div 1 athletes in most sports yet come down to play against Workman, Cathedral and Salesian yet the Sierra League is the toughest around...give me a break?

Seriously wake me up when you grow a set. Better yet tell me why none of the local SGV teams play any of these teams in pre season? What a joke! CIF should be ashamed of itself.

Interesting said:

It was just 3 seasons ago when playoffs were enrollment based like now. The past 2 seasons are the only 2 that I can remember CIF doing things by league.

jcaz said:

Ya, I kind of agree with you here in that, I was really surprised that allot of the teams that are in the same leagues, are not competing with each other in the same playoffs.

It's very strange, but in a way, it is an interesting idea, don't you think ?

I mean, look at it this way. If they did this for football, they would never have to worry about who to send to the state bowl games.

You could put teams like Corona Centennial and Oaks Christian in the same playoff bracket that included LB Poly.

Or for that matter, you could mix and match, and put teams that were on a more equal footing at place them in similar groupings when it came to the playoffs.

That way, you would never have an argument as to who was left out of the big dance every year.

socalhoops fan said:

In all my years of watching cifss playoffs these divisions are the worst ever. So many divisions have teams that finished in second place receiving top 4 seeds. It does not take much to win a championship except for D1AA which is loaded. I prefer the old way where all the teams in the same league are in the same division. 4-5th place teams should not be able to play for a CHAMPIONSHIP. D-Ranch has an easy path to a watered-down title. Glendora almost a lock for the semi-finals. Some good teams like Redlands(22-3) which tied Eisenhower for the CBL was a #10 seed and Eisenhower was a #1 seed in a D2A. Chino Hills the Sierra league champion was only given the #8 seed in D1A. CIFSS should make another division next year for last place teams in every league.

damien gets blown out in league and gets baldwin park, diamond bar comes in ahead of the spartans and splits their games and ends up behind glendora and gets a dangerous colony while glendora gets ontario? the sierra league is split between three divisions? does this make any sense? does cif take a couple of tabs of acid before making these pairings? some one is trippin' dat's for shaw!

Are You Kidding? said:

I've got to assume you guys are joking about Damien winning their division. They get past BP but will lose to La Habra.

La Mirada wins it all.

jcjpackfan said:

wow, comic relief, Gladstone(happy rock)boys BB, 5-18 according to the Trib and they are in the Playoffs, why punish the kids any furhter, they cant play and they have proven that over and over, now they have to go to the playoffs? that's child abuse!

sgvbasketball said:

Chris Damien will win that watered down division. CIF is just spreading the wealth to the power brokers in CIF: read Catholic $$$$$$ schools. How else can you explain some of the match ups across divisions?

Chris said:

If u expect Damien To win that division.
They will have to go through La Mirada who is pretty good and Eisenhower.

I do believe Diamond Ranch should win their division unless theres a school out there i dont know bout shocks em.

Lets go Nogales!!!!

I have it. I can get the Division 1AA bracket but none of the others. Usually there is a function at the bottom that shows up that you can click and it will take you the others but it's not on any I download.

No, as a matter of fact I've already downloaded the brackets for the boys and girls. Make sure that you have Mircosoft Excel on your computer to view the brackets...
