He was the Amat Family's QB and leader during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
The alumni will never forget you Xavier!!!
GREAT VIDEO!!!
there is another kid from ghs its c young.he has two offers.but next week has been ask to go to san diego state.kids have 14 day to sign.ghs.
plaid,
fully aware of who kid is, dont get get your panties in a bunch, simply pointing out that ghs does not get alot of kids getting scholy's from the football program these days, and i know some parents are frustrated with coach p and his not much help attitude when comes to scholy's
Aye SoCal,
Anything Else??
Anymore corrections??
Did Coach Layton do anything else wrong besides get his kids into college??
playallday,
The Glendora kid has a name, Cody Tescher! Remember it. Great kid and nobody deserves it more.
Hey Coach Roddy Colgate is a patriot league school and not an ivy league school as mentioned in today's D1 signings. Colgate is a former D1AA school. The 8 ivy league schools are Princeton,Harvard,Yale,Penn,Columbia,Dartmouth,Cornell and Brown.
Bleeds Blue and Gold
Pretty Sad isnt it? Where the hell is the parents?
What alot kids or parents don't understand, is there kid need to perform in the classroom when they arrive in college and if you're not prepared or don't have the study habits.. you're done!
Its kinda surprises me they are taking the chance on this kid..
wow, glendora kid sighns at humbolt st, coach p must be slippin, he dont help his kids get sighned anywhere
There is an interesting article in todays Riverside Press Enterprise about Corona Centennial LB Vontaze Burfict. He is one heck of a player for those who saw his performance against De La Salle.
One sentence in the article says, "In to play football at Arizona State next fall, Burfict must first complete four online courses, one night school class and six regular high school classes, and raise his SAT score by at least 100 points by the end of the school year."
My question is, "What the hell has this guy been doing for the past 3 and a half years and how did he keep his academic elegibility during this time?" I can see it now, if this guy doesn't cut it with ASU, we will have another Lawrence Phillips on our hands in a few years. This is truly mind boggling.
like I said - go figure!
maybe it was betcha that threw it into a tizzy - or maybe not if this posts- who knows
i bet i BET I bet Bet
TEST
BTW, the word "bet" is off limits. After a dozen+ tries I changed "I bet" to I guess" and it posted. Go figure.
Sorry this had to be posted in pieces. the blogs amazing comment editor allows crude jokes, curse words, real personal attacks - but for some reason bullet points and something in the following paragraph set it into motion (it had to be rewritten a bundle of times)
Now just because all comments are not glowing -doesn't mean you should take offense to them. Even Matt Barkley, last years National Gatorade Player of the year, was getting scrutinized this season for a series of poor performances (18 interceptions on the year, 4 each in his first and last game of the season, a very worldly 54% completion rate - by comparison McLanahan from Amat was at 63%). So scrutiny comes with the territory and on an earlier post I stated some random criticisms from ESPN. I guess they're reputable, yes? And I'm guessing the guys that write for them have little to no coaching or playing experience either. That's just how it works. But I do agree with your last statement and we should let it "run it's course"
Report Card,
And people have been wrong. The Guru might be - we'll see. But let's see. What I was saying is you were VERY quick to say he was wrong because Idaho and SDSU offered a couple kids he wasn't high on. I'm just sayin' that those two 2-10 teams, apparently, have not proven to be exactly the best judges of talent - so to use them as a litmus test wouldn't be a very valid experiment. Does that diminish the fact that kids are getting an opportunity to play at the next level and a free education? NO WAY! Congratulations to them both. The Lancers have had a few Aztecs recently and they've enjoyed their stay. Offensive lineman Will Robinson parlayed it into a contract with the Seahawks.
Report Card,
As I said, I wish these two kids nothing but the BEST of luck and, as I also said, maybe they can help turn things around. And I don't want this to turn into "Joe Amat supports the Guru" either. What I am doing is just explaining "the process" of which he's a part of. And really, the negative comment you take exception to " We just don't see the toughness that you would like out of players that big..." is not saying the kids is not tough - he just needs to be tougher. I'm guessing that's nothing that was said is not something that Zernickow himself has not told the kid face-to-facemask... get tougher!!!
Secondly, a scout/evaluators job is to give opinions on whether THEY think that individual players will pan out over the long-haul. Not whether or not SOME school in the country will offer them a scholarship. That is why I said that the proof is not in todays signing day but years from now - when even kids who don't sign have an opportunity to accept the challenge and prove people wrong.
test
Neiko Padilla has transferred out of SEM and will play at South Hills his senior season.
Breaking News
East coast,
Kevin Bonilla had a fall out with the team at the end of his junior year and quit the team before the last game. He chose not to come back and play for that Verti mess of things his senior year and enrolled at Chino Hills HS looking for greener pastures. Turns out of course Amat was horrible that year and Kevin Bonilla played well for CHHS, But also missed the playoffs. He was a good HS player only. No college for Kevin just a good HS player.
Pretty sad post coming from an Amat guy. Wow, its not about the "Wins or Loses", its about a young man getting the chance to play some football, but more importatntly getting an education.
Good luck to all the kids moving forward to any college. Don't listen to the so called experts, especially a guy that has less than one year in the business.
Joe, I would say he missed the mark way too much. Just proves that his claim to fame will run its course quickly..
what about Titus Teague from POMONA......where is he going???
...and if we're really picking nits, with Idaho and San Diego State both being 2-10 last year - they've apparently been "missing the mark" on a bunch of guys!
Maybe Lockett and Salm can help turn that around. Good luck to them.
A whole bunch of people "miss the mark" on scores of guys every year (guys like Tom Brady and Kurt Warner) and those guys are still in business.
This isn't an exact science and, really, doesn't show who is right/wrong on signing day... but rather in another 4 years or so.
James
Still carrying the water.. Just in another venue..
Man, how you missed the mark this year..
Coaching at Idaho and SDSU will be made aware of your opinions and crap. Don't count on making dollars from them anytime soon!
My BAD!
I got Brian and Kevin mixed up.
What happened to Kevin Bonilla anyways Amat crew?
Get some help, evaluating isn't bashing, there's a difference. Have you ever read scout.com, do you think all the evaluations are rosy and glowing. Give me a break, he's doing what all evaluators do. If evaluators worried about hurt feelings, they wouldn't be doing their jobs.
Love from da East Coast,
its 1/4 credit for bishop amat.
Brian Bonilla never went to BA, he went to Don Lugo his freshman year and then transfered back into PUSD
Get some help...you're right..."sensible ADULTS ONLY TALK OR BASH PLAYERS WHO "HAVEN'T EARNED A SCHOLARSHIP!"
Dude what planet are you living on?
Go back and read the blog for the past 4 years...better yet start a "lIST" of anything and see teh boo birds come out.
What a bunch of hypocrites!
the same hypocrites that bash guru for making an off handed comment are the same hypocrite that either waste their time bashing charter oak for their 'little" championship. come on hypocrites it's okay to bash farrar and teh accomplishments of charter oak and then get your panties in a bunch about guru. didn't most of the new sensitive guys clamour for guru to acknowledge Salm? i don't think bA's Price is very good but thean again I'm comparing him to DR's Sermons. It's an opinion based on seeing Price get leveled by RB's in the open field. Great cover corner but he ain't anything like UCLA great Ware. Maybe he goes first round NFL draft in 3-5 years but come on hypocrites everyone has an opinion. Especially coming from the SD crowd when it was clear Joseph was the better, quicker. faster back with more upside than Barbone. Guru I think you're just like everyone else here except you haven't played, haven't coached and dn't have kids but at least you're doing something and getting paid for it while the bashers wish they could do what you do for a living instead of hanging on their kids and schools nuts for a living
Fred
You just don’t get it! No sensible ADULT should bash or speak badly about a kid who just earned a scholarship.
Fred,
Lockett's playing at San Diego......Where's the GURU? playing with his .....! Yup, I thought so! Talking about a athlete like he did about Lockett is in bad taste.
I'm just saying it's his first-year doing this. When you're an evaluator, you're going to upset people because of your opinions. It goes with the territory. Nobody says anything about all the players he complements, they just can't take the good with the bad.
Fred are you comparing the Guru to Kurt Warner? Now he may bag groceries, on a good day, but not in my store. He'd probably screw that up too. But he sure ain't no Kurt Warner.
I'm just saying its not where you start, its how you finish.
James is no Kurt Warner.
Nice defense!
Right, and Kurt Warner bagged groceries before becoming a future hall of famer.
Fred:
Strongly disagree with your thoughts and allowing the "Guru" to act on the behalf of the Tribune. When you post a thread it’s a little different than someone posting comments.
This friend of yours who has ZERO experience in the recruiting and scouting field has crossed the line in bashing kids with his opinions. It really doesn’t matter what other scouting services think or say, it only matters what SDSU and IDAHO believe. I guess they understand or have more experience in upside and toughness than James. Let’s get real, this guy got off the bus on Barranca everyday, walked to SH and carried the water for Bogan. Some of us know a little more about the truth than you think. Then the track problems and the list goes on!!
Do you or even James know the families of Salm, Johnson, or Lockett? Why not applause these kids for getting where they are now? Where did James graduate from? Where did James play? What has James done in his life? Pretty simple answer isn’t it!
Congratulations to all the boys that move on in the classroom at D1, D2, D3, NAIA, or JC colleges. Stay in school and get your education.. Maybe James could take a few notes..
One thing for sure, you have done more in your young age than James the joke Guru
Tra doesn't have the grades to play D1
Actually, I have. I would never make comments publicly questioning a kids toughness. Now evaluating ability is one thing. My issue is with this guy trying to set the bar on who is tough and who is not. Speed, footwork, etc. well that is an evaluation. But to come on here and say I don't think this guy is tough. Well that is not his job.
The truth is that most scouting/draft evaluators/bloggers are NOT guys with great (if any) playing experience. As I've said before they are media guys that see a bunch of football.... enabling them to attempt to make comparisons. Those comparisons are based on their opinions and they do not serve those who are being evaluated. They serve those who use the evaluations to gather information to use in the recruiting process.
I think asking what qualifications the evaluator has can just as easily be turned around. How much experience do those complaining have with the recruiting process. Have you been on the other side where you've received these reports? How often have those complaining gone out and reviewed other scouting sites? Have they gone through the recruiting process before? If you're complaining - what are your qualifications to do so?
These evaluators don't only tell coaches what positive attributes the players has , but coaches also what to know what a kid may have trouble doing. I went to a mainstream recruiting website and picked about a dozen random unsigned players. Here are some of the comments...
Needs to work on his reads and diagnosis skills after frequently being given the green light to attack upfield off the edge.
. Sometimes struggles to disengage the blocks of uncovered linemen. Needs to add bulk and increase his upper-body strength to improve his shedding ability.
His lack of size is evident when he tries to tackle bigger backs or shed uncovered linemen on cutoff blocks.
Hand and foot coordination need work in order for him to make progress in pass pro.
Needs to incorporate better hand technique working through traffic.
needs to finish the cutoff block by driving his legs and working upfield.
Speed diminishes when he gets outside the tackles and has to pursue sideline-to-sideline.
Can get caught up in blocks at the point of attack and struggle disengaging. Pursues and tackles a bit high for a shorter linebacker.
Can overrun the play and while we love his energy and motor, he needs to work on playing under control and reading his keys. Coverage skills need polish.
Do you think mommy and daddy are emailing ESPN to complain about what's written on their website and questioning the credentials of the writers because they listed a couple negative comments about little Johnny? That's the way the game works, and bottom line: If those guys are really wrong - they go away in a hurry.
I would like to know where the 'Guru' exactly played that he would have a gauge on toughness. C'mon Guru what is your criteria. Were you the guy that played next to Chris Speilkman every down and that is where you can snuff out toughness. Or were you the starting strong safety for the Green Bay Packers. I have seen this guy. I don't knowe how much coaching let alon playing experience he has to make theae type of judgements.
What the Guru wrote wasn't classless, it was an evaluation, no different that something you would read on scout.com. Doesn't me he's right, it's an opinion, something evaluators make, good and bad. Stop being so sensitive, we all wish Salm nothing but the bet. I've always said, players handle criticism much better than the parents do.
Lets all remember the comments from the so called "Guru" and keep track of the kids who were not supposed to do anything, or go anywhere. Fred, get this guy off your jock and lets have only positive comments on kids.
1/2 Credit for Bishop Amat
Both Brandon Sermons and Brian Bonilla from Diamond Ranch both played football for Bishop Amat before transferring from Coach Mark Verti's squad to DR.
I do not believe these two would have left Amat's current coaching staff. Who would? I'm even tempted to say with these two players, Amat would have beat Long Beach Poly! Ok, that's a bit far reaching but that game was THAT close!
If those kids would have stayed at Amat, BA would have had 5 "signers" in one season. Three is something to be very proud of but 5 is phenomenal
...which is probably why it did not happen! lol.
CONGRATS TO ALL SIGNERS!!! MAKE THE VALLEY PROUD!!!
Wow...Larry, that was not the most politically correct things to say about a kid. Where you drunk? Do you have Tourettes??
I'm a first time complainer on this guru. I have read and seen his comments these past months and I'm convinced with many bloggers that this man must go. I wont personally bash James because I don't know the guy. I'm sure hes a great guy but don't make classless comments on kids.
"We were absolutely stunned when SDSU offered Diamond Bar CB Colin Lockett (and we weren't the only ones, many in the recruiting circles had their jaws dropping)."
from the guru
Really Nice!
This is not the first time "the guru" has questioned Kyle Salm abilities. (San Dimas H.S.)
This is a "grown man" writing about a high school student?
"But, we are not very high on Corona Santiago offensive lineman Jordan Johnson and San Dimas lineman Kyle Salm. Both are big kids but they have little upside. We just don't see the toughness that you would like out of players their side."
From what I have heard he will be taking the JC path. Which is JUST FINE . He will be an asset to any program .The young man is a SOLID football player. The sky is the limit , I see him playing @ a Pac 10 school in the future , HOPEFULLY for USC.
Fight On Tra !
TM
Trojan Man,
What up with Sumler? Where will he sign?
They made a mistake on Bowens...He will not pan out. Brandon Bennett is a prime example. Big Sexy has run his course and has not done squat for the Bruins besides taking that free scholorship Money.
Congrats to all ...
I know you cover the SGV, but sometimes Ayala H.S. gets left out by the Daily Bulletin as well. But, David Quiroga - Ayala H.S., will be attending New Mexico State University.
