Wrestling: Northview's title taken away

I agree...Let's not put blame on the Northview wrestlers. They wrestled hard and earned thier wins. I think we all agree that the FULL blame goes to LISA. Hopefully next year we will have someone honest handeling the bout sheets.

Nv Insider, Great comment you just posted. I have read the last few that have been added. We do need to wait for what ever other facts there are, but it does seem like it was just a bunch of mistakes. Read below that there was 2 at the table and that one did do the double checking and at times did read the bout sheet to the other to be put into the computer. And do we know yet if other bout sheets were double checked or just Sultana and Nv?

I'll be the first to apologize on this blog. Let's wait until the facts come out before assuming blame on coaches or anyone else besides Lisa P. This was not the place to have mentioned any past situations @ NV either. Just got caught up in the moment. Sorry.

I just want to make sure nobody bashes the Northview wrestlers or coaches. They are a class act, compete hard and work every bit as hard as anybody else. They had no involvement in the matter and I fully respect and sometimes admire what they do. I feel bad for their athletes when they hear the news. It truly is devastating. Sincerely Rocky Humphrey

Does ANYONE know yet if the bouts for any other CIF matches have been checked? I would be able to believe that it was an HONEST mistake if NORTHVIEW wasn't the only one that would of BENEFITED from these ERRORS. I applaude the Northview Wrestlers. My son Wrestles for Covina
(did youth wrestling with many of the northview wrestlers) and even though they are rivals we stayed and watched all the final cif matches and cheered for Northview.(SCUBA IS AWESOME!) It's a shame that both teams have been robbed.

STEVE and FRED... Just wondering if you plan on getting any responses/ reactions from Sultana Coaches? It would be nice to hear both sides of the story!? ;)

here is another comment from calwrestler.com: Special forces this is a scandel and i understand how an ugly scandel would make you feel negative towards Northview. I am from South Hills and Northview was our primary rival in my high school days. Their coaches and parents are so admirable that i have long lasting friendships with many of them. Coach Ochoa and Nancy Lopez are two of the most unselfish people i have ever met. They poor their time and their personal money into the Northview kids like you would not believe.
Please dont let a scandal cripple the innocent.

Also, under the national federation rules no match can have a change of outcome unless the coach protests within 1/2 hour. Of course, Rocky Humphrey could not have did all the work he did in 1/2 hour. So Northview could, if they were the evil people you describe, insist on being the CIF champion because of a legal technicality. But Northview is not that way. The coaches would not think of asking for a title when it was legitamately won by Sultana. We at Northview only want what we win on the mat.
Last year at the Northview Tournament another school won and Northview took second by a few points. When the points were recalculated, Northview was really the winner. But we just buried it and said congradulations rather than create that kind of stink. Would we have been so noble over a CIF title...NO, But we were then.
Scandals hurt innocent as well as the guilty. I am very proud of my affilation with Northview high school and i can tell you the coaches have very high integrity and respect all the other programs.

It seems to me that the only impartial person who has made any sense without a bunch of BS is jcaz. everyone else in here is either to close to the program or is a hater.Your all a bunch of stupid excuse makers

I found the letter from northview wrestler mom on that wrestling page. whats the big deal dude, she said she's sorry

I know nothing I can do will make up for this mistake but I want to apologize for my mistakes in entering the bout scores. For the most part I was the only person entering, but I did have a high desert guy Kirk Rider sitting with me all day. Sometimes he even read me the scores. I'm not sure if the Northview scores were only mistakes from the tournament but I want to say that I surely did not intend to make Northview win. That is not something that David or any of the coaching staff at Northview or the competitors would ever stand for.
I don't have child on the Northview team anymore but I obviously have a strong allegance to their team. Because I was so close to the situation I was trying to make sure everything was perfect. I even highlighted the scores and the winners. I was the person that told the Coach Hatch from Pacifica to save the bout sheets from the day, incase the tournament ended up close, people thought there were errors or if anybody wanted to check their scores on the bout sheets. I'm sure that can be verified with both Kirk Rider and Coach Hatch. I know that people take their own stats and there were several different versions of the brackets sent out throughout the day. Intentionally cheating is not something that you would be able to do or that I would ever try or want to do. I'm not sure how many other problems there were with the bout sheet entering if they checked them all or just the Northview/Sultana matches.
I do want to extend my sincere apologies to the coaches, parents and wrestlers of both Sultana and Northview. To CIF, Coach Hatch, Pacifica High School and to TMI. I am very sorry.

Coach Ochoa is not all he is cracked up to be. This probably didn't just happen w/o him knowing about it. One other thing Fred, ask him where all of the money goes from his "wrestling clinics" that he puts on for middle school kids. No I don't have a kid wrestling for him nor have I ever had one nor do I have an ax to grind. I just know back in the late 90's he's lied in the past at NV & probably should have been suspended & only because his teams have been successful some people look past it.
Let's wait for the facts to come out to see if she (Lisa P.) was "alone" or not.

Altho the Northview wrestlers have won many of their matches, most that have compeated against them will have to wonder if they really lost by that many points? were they short changed? Like Margaritos boxing trainer that tried to Cheat wrapping his hands, the Northview Coaches you cant tell me knew nothing about the scoring table and what they were doing there.? as the saying goes, Hand caught in the cookie jar, but the flip side is innocent until proven guilty. right?

FRED J : This is not Blog Talk. If you go to the California Wrestling Newsletter / forum you will find an apology from the Northview booster. She indicates that she and she alone was responsible for scoring. We all have repect for Northview and it's program but at what price ? Please do your homework.

Northview wrestlers will be just fine. Anyone out there that knows Coach Ochoa, knows he is not a cheater. and anyone that have seen past and present nv wrestlers wrestle, they know that they are from an outstanding program.

I have nothing but respect for Ochoa, and nowhere in this story from the Sun was it suggested that anyone from Northview "cheated," that's simply a bunch a blog talk. It read, "a legion of scoring errors in Northview's favor were discovered." I feel bad for Sultana, why wasn't someone keeping close tabs on the scoring while it happened, especially when you're in line for a title. How about the officials at the meet, were they cross-checking scores to make sure everything added up? It was a mistake from a lot of people, and a lot of different parties.

If the way it came off here in this blog is any indication of what will be printed in tomorrows sports section, more people will wonder about Northview. It sells newspapers nonetheless. Bad rap coming for Northviews Wrestling team and coaches in tomorrows Tribune.

Steve was off covering Bonita water polo and Amat girls hoops way out in the I.E., but he talked to Ochoa today and will have a reaction in tomorrow's paper. Steve is covering the Masters and state meet as well.

I think the proof the person was asking about was for the so called others. Not for the one indvidual. But someone had commented about her and others. Proof - No need to look for it ! Someone has already apologized and took full resposiblity . She stated that she was the main person putting the scores. I do believe that Richard T did not wrestle in league finals .

EVERYONE, this is not about 10 points, it is about 10 separate deliberate errors for multiple points, all to benefit Northview and to insure that Northview won CIF. Have the officials added up all the points? Bottom line is Lisa and others cheated, they will continue to cheat if not punished to the fullest degree. Make them accountable for their actions, and lets stop this from happening again.

The integrity of our coaching staff or our wrestlers should not be compromised because of one individual!!! Coaches, please know that we admire and appreciate all of the work and dedication you have given to all of our boys and girls!!!!! All of this is so sad already. Everyone is angry and bitter is not the wrestlers fault. You have to admit NV wrestlers are the best in the area and they work their butts out to achieve their individual and team goals. NV wrestling program is so dedicated is a 10 to 11 months program these coaches give up on their families for the sport. You can’t be blaming the coaches or the wrestler for one person greediness.

i just checked the score on tmi150.. and it now shows sultana winning 257 to 255. now that is different from the article on top.. so since that is so close again. should they triple check every bout sheet. i mean all teams.

My son wrestles of Northview (not one of the elite). My experience watching the wrestlers is when they win their happy, when the lose they get over it. I don’t see them following their score through the tournament. If the wrestlers did the Sultana wrestlers would have noticed something wrong at the tournament. What ever happened, mistake or cheating, the Sultana wrestlers are not the only victims. The Northview wrestlers thought they had an earned this Title.

I have to say that Robert T is an idoit!! The final score was wrong because of 1 person. Those wrestlers still WON their individual matches. You cant take that away from those kids.

Yes Sultana are the Champs of that CIF. But dont take anything away from the wrestlers that straight out won their matches. Any other wrestling program KNOWS that northview does have a outstanding wrestling program. That one person does not take away from what these kids have worked so hard for.

The bout sheets / results and entered into the brackets after the match . The ONLY person imputing those results and thus giving erronous points to Northview was a Norhtview booster. The booster was working for a software programer that handles wrestling matches and hired by CIF. The Sutana coach noticed several errors that awarded Northview addtional points. An example of this was Sultana's 112 lber lost the match to Northview by the score of 1- 0 . The score was inputed as an 8-0 decision and givieng Northview 2 additional TEAM points . This was one one NINE others ALL in Northview's favor that had to be refomulated to the correct scoring . The result was that Sultana did in fact win and Northview was 2nd.
The nest question everyone should ask is " Where do we go from here. "

You know you out played him Drove straighter then him, chipped better then him, putted better then him, was on the green faster then him, only to see him with a better score at the end. Does anyone remember this football story? Years ago a football coach was looking at game tape.. A team needed a few yards to get a 1st down. While looking at the tape he saw a coach pick up the chains and move them. The team did not get the 1st down and lost the game.He turn the tapeover to la city officials. The coach was "BANNED FOR LIFE". this PERSON WHO CHANGED THE SCORE 10 TIMES SHOULD BE BANNED FOR LIFE. This person has a lot of explaining to do.Sultana High School wrestling team..you are the true champs!

Questions... now is it that the points put into the computer were different than what was on the bout sheets? or where the bout sheets wrong and thats how they were inputed on the computer? does the ref check the bouts before he signs them? and also, was every single bout sheet from every team checked other than northviews? and if she cheated, than why so obvious? after all the facts are checked, she should be questioned.. the wrestlers all earned their winning matches and from what i have read, Ochoa is a honest coach with a great wrestling program. should not blame the program for one person. but we first need all the facts.

Please stop referring to the guilty party as a cheater and call her by name "LISA P. the cheater". She knows exactly what she was doing, and how many years she has been doing it, and for whom. Her hands are dirty, but she isn't the only one. Coach Ochoa & his entire wrestling staff reads those bout sheets, over and over and over, he had to of noticed the scoring errors... as everyone agrees, he is a smart man. HOW SMART? the mastermind allow 10 errors to go on record, even after he knew they didn't earn all those points. WHY? MY guess is for the glory of being called the winner, for the Ring and a new t-shirt. I have a new slogan for a Northview shirt, IF YOU DON'T EARN IT, YOU DON'T DESERVE IT! even the boys who WON, know how many points they won by... did they speak up? What kind of example are you setting for these kids. The children are forgiven because they are still learning, but those adults who cheated need to be punished and banned from Wrestling.

Northview's parents should be proud of their kids accomplishments , but on the other hand the cheaters should be held accountable. Great job by the Sultana Coach for asking questions and his handling on the situation . Now it's Northview turn ? How is this going to be handled ?

Everyone needs to slow down a bit here and wait until all the facts are in.

As the other bloggers have stated on more than one occasion, what ever happened, should absolutely never reflect on the quality of the athletes that are playing for Northview on any level.

The school, the wrestling program, or any of the other sports for that matter, should not have to answer for the errors of a few bad apples that exist, not only here, but in almost in any given program be it professional or amateur.

Look, im not a Northveiew apologist, but I have to say tha we should all just wite until we get more of the facts in here.

I don't have a wrestler on Northview's team mine wrestlers for another team in the Valle Vista league and I have seen those wrestlers for years they are for real they work their butts off all year and they are the best. It is a shame that they will always be tarnish, because of the selfish act of one,and let's be clear this wasn't random mistake's you can not have that Meany errors with just one teams score and that team happens to be yours SO TO ALL POSTERS DON'T BLAME THE WRESTLERS they earned the right to go to masters.

I certainly am still proud of these wrestles and this team. They worked there butts off and I'm not sure what has happened but for some of you bloggers to blame these young men is really remarkable to me. Saying they are taught in practice how to change a score. Very funny!

I am sad to say that this has hurt many wrestlers...Northview and Sultana. I do not believe that they have a heavy dark cloud hanging over their heads. I certainly do not believe that my sons are tarnished and should be looked down upon. I know for a fact my sons have earned every point, pin, or teck that they have ever been awarded and neither of them are in question.

So to call me out and ask me if i'm proud...YOU ARE ABSOLUTLY CORRECT I AM AS PROUD OF THEM AS ALWAYS!!

Why don't you ask all those other kids looking at the ceiling from their backs. Go look at some of those championship score. (2001, 2002). Not even close! Can't abide by cheating, but dont take away from the hard work of those kids. That being said, anyone want to sign up for a duel? I think not, not unless you want to get smashed by Ochoa's Machine. Oh and by the way, Diamond Ranch, did the score keeper account for your player throwing the ball over the first basemans head, or the single that brought the run in, or your inability to hit the best pitchers i nthe division? I think not.

Let me tell you: I feel bad for Sultana and also Northview wrestlers. Hopefully we will soon have more details on what happened. BUT if anyone out there knows Coach Ochoa, he is not only an outstanding coach but also An HONEST one. And i know other wrestling programs agree! As to question the whole program, that is ridiculous! Heavy words there when you use word "cheating" and associate it to a program. If you don't like the system CIF has in place, hate the system, not a school or schools that are doing what the system allows you to do. You are allowed to have a permit and go to a school outside your residence zone. Did you know that? If a kid is giving false information, throw the book at them and the school, but if the school and kid follow the rules to have a kid go somewhere and have permit etc... that's not cheating. The good ol days of every kid going to school where they grow up is over whether we agree with that or not. With the rules that exist in place today, how can you blame a kid or family for not going to a better program or environment that will make them or could make them more successful on and off the field? If you notice, I don't make accusations or throw out slanderous comments, but ask you some questions rather.

Tainted Wrestling Banners hang in Northviews Gymnasium. A asterik should go by them. Were they even earned? I guess the wrestling program will now bw associated with cheating and what we thought was a powerhouse program with wrestlers and coaches is now a question mark..Did they really win all those championships on merit or did they pencil whip their opponents at the scorers table.?Did Barry Bonds really break the homerun record? the question around the SGV will be did Northview really win at Wrestling all those years.?

Cheating is one thing getting caught at it is another. Now go check that baseball roster at northview and find how many of those kids live out of that district. It's been going on for years over at Northview, their two top sports Wrestling and Baseball have been cheating for some time now. "If your not cheating ,your not trying" Jim Rome. "when you get caught you get caught" No Championship period!....Coaches and AD's should be held accountable and be suspended for the following season when caught cheating, didn't they do that to the former Rosemead Wrestling coach(RIP) for illegal recruiting? Like the NCAA a violation occured and Northviews whole team should be put on a one year suspension (not allowed to compete beyond league competition). No Tourneys.

But, "if" that person intentionally doctored the scores to favor Northview, and I need to emphasize the word “if” here, then yes, I absolutely agree that there should be an investigation into the other matches that he or she has scored in the recent past.

Unfortunately, I don’t even know if that is at all possible.

Keep in mind that we don’t yet know all the facts, but one thing is certain and that is that integrity is so important in any level of life.

In fact, it has become so important in today’s world, that there are even classes that are taught at major universities that deal with this very subject.

For what it’s worth, I will remind the bloggers in here, that just recently, the powers that be, over at Amat reported themselves to the CIF when they were found to be ineligible to participate in a playoff game (even though they had already been awarded a playoff birth).

The only problem that I saw with how they handled it, was that they seem to have discovered the mistake far too late to allow another, well deserving team an opportunity to represent themselves in that playoff.

Schools routinely do this of course, and integrity is not simply limited to Amat or to the actions that they took that day, but the fact that this person over at Northview “may have” cheated for so long, raises yet another question, and that is (with my apologies to Vick the Brick), who else knew about this ??

I thought she looked familiar. She was the scorekeeper in our CIF Baseball Finals.

yes socalhoops fan, they should be out of the playoffs, cause clearly the northview wrestlers went over to the computer and changed their points themselves. im sure they even went over how to do that in practice. use your head now, issac newton.

My advise to this Lady who changed the score "TEN" times "YOU NEED A GOOD LAWYER" For all the pain and suffering to all the Sultana wrestlers AND the Northview wrestlers.I don't think you will EVER be welcome to another match again anywhere!!! EVEN YOUR OWN KIDS.

This is blatant cheating, pure and simple! The person doing the bout sheets is a Northview booster, who has been doing bout sheets for years, all the errors made were only with Northview matches and all errors give Northveiw more points than they earned She should be held accountable.

Shame on the person taking score for Sultana! You can't have young high school students doing the scoring for a high caliber C.I.F. Title match! This must be heartbreaking for Northview.

CIFSS should investigate the scoring and if a Northview representative doctored the scores Northview should be out of the playoffs next year. No room for blatant cheaters in any sport.

Wow! This is crazy! How does something like this happen? Do the coaches not pay close attention to the scoring at the match?
