La Verne Lutheran staged a late rally, but it wasn’t enough. Sophomore Carl Cooper had 16 points and Kevin Payne and Jordan Salley each had 13 points for for the Trojans, but they couldn’t overcome a 17-points second-half deficit in a 72-62 loss to Los Angeles Windward in Friday’s CIF-SS Division V-A championship at Colony High School. Windward was led by UCLA-bound center Anthony Stover, who finished with 19 points.
