GLENDORA TOURNAMENT: Bishop Amat Rallies, Tartans cruise; Diamond Bar will host El Toro on Thursday

GLENDORA TOURNAMENT BREAKING NEWS: Bishop Amat scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to squeeze out a 12-11 victory over Charter Oak in both teams’ final round-robin games in the Glendora tournament Wednesday. Seriously, what’s up with the Lancers’ pitching? This could become a concern, the questions going into the season were about the Lancers’ hitting, not pitching. In the late game, Glendora punched its ticket to Saturday’s championship with an 11-1 victory over Diamond Ranch.

Loara tournament: Despite losing 12-9 to Servite, Diamond Bar is 2-1 in the Loara tournament and is hosting powerful El Toro at Diamond Bar High Thursday at 3 p.m. El Toro, remember, was No. 2 in the Los Angeles Times’ pre-season poll behind Mater Dei. They lost to Loara on Tuesday, which set up Thursday’s big game at Diamond Bar. C’mon Brahmas, send them back to O.C. on a two-game slide.

Glendora tournament Prediction: After the first two round of the Glendora tournament, the picture is getting clearer. First, Northview, even with the target on its chest, is making a convincing argument that it deserves the top ranking. They just beat two of the best teams in the tournament, Bonita and Murrieta Valley, and will clinch their spot in Saturday’s championship with a win over Claremont on Thursday at Henderson Field. Assuming the Vikings advance, they will play the winner of tonight’s Diamond Ranch-Glendora game. Both teams are 2-0, and the Panthers are coming off a 12-11 thriller over Bishop Amat in eight innings. As impressive as that win was, you can’t out-slug your way to a title, so I like Glendora to meet Northview in the title Saturday night, with another Vikings championship to add to their resume. What is not clear is if Northview loses Thursday, who will play the DRanch-Glendora winner? Tiebreakers will sort that out.
