Baseball: Baldwin Park mercies Covina, 10-0

| | Comments (26) |

Baldwin Park scored eight unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth, capped by a grand slam by Gerardo Arias to give the Braves a 10-0 victory in their Valle Vista league opener against Covina to go to 4-1. Braves pitcher Andy Salcido allowed just two hits and had five strikeouts.

"It was kind of a statement game. We want to let other teams know that we're not just going to roll over. Obviously when we get to San Dimas, Northview, they're very good, don't get me wrong. But we're coming to compete and we want to win, there's no doubt about it." Baldwin Park coach Jake Barendregt on his teams 4-1 start.

"It's just frustrating. I know it's my job not to be frustrated, it just is. I told myself before the season we would go through this (learning curve) because we're so young. Everybody wants to win and put out a good product. But it's tough when you make mistakes that come back and bite you. But that's part of learning."-- Covina coach Pete Loaiza on losing and giving up eight unearned runs in the fourth inning.

whoever thinks andy salcido is a great player, dont think that.yea,he may look good against ganesha, pomona, covina. wat about northview or san dimas? ive been watching him play this entire 2009 season, im not impressed by his performance, especially against san dimas.

Conard Reyes said:

are you serious about andy salcido????he may look good against the poor looking teams, have you seen him pitch against northview or san dimas???he is horrible and doesnt sack up!!! he puts his team down, as wat i saw wen he pitched against san dimas!!!! he doesnt deserve much...

Salcido will not get ANY offers from any D1 schools. He is a good high school pitcher period. There is nothing wrong with being a good high school pitcher but sorry the road ends after this year for him.

bp boy said:

the shortstop from BP is also legit. A bit small but he has great hands and has been smashing the ball lately.
Kudos to the coaches!

You just don't get it your own parents can see what we see, from the outside Its as you live in a SNOW GLOBE. You can't hide the bad calls made (who ever is in charge). You got mercied 2 Xs by the same team if BP mercy Northview or San Dimas. Then maybe your point.note:why not let your freshman gain some experiance. By the way most of the teams you face this year are Better..

tue-thurs games suck'
Tampa Bay Rays are looking at andy salcido along with Fullerton, he truly is under rated...he was also an awesome quarterback that threw close to 2900yards, he is also a great catcher, he definitely has an arm, although he is currently needed at third because of his agility

ST G54 said:

Wow!! It amazes me how anyone can come on here and call out a coach & then suggest what their lineup should be.

Why didn't you guys just apply for the job if you feel so strongly that what your saying would work?? Has it occurred to you that maybe, just maybe the other teams your facing are better?

Rock Day said:

Alright now...!

How did BP vs covina go ,was there good turn out.what was the score come on now don't be shy..

Rock Day said:

Clear your minds...!

Let's get something clear. There is no doubt that Nick Hynes is ladgit he should be on Varr..He has a collegit future. He stands on his own merit as should all.Geat real and stop trying to elevate your freshman by association with ballers like Rio,Hynes, and the many lagit ballers that made it on there marit,.Looks to me that Pete got blind sided, with some freshman parents that would do and say anything. What i have read on this blog issue, the older colt ball players never had a chance.By the way hard day night, what does fricken mean is that chickenpoop oohh.Go Colts..!

Babe Ruth said:

Pete, You put a line up of 13,14,15, year old KIDS,because they were a good travel team, that played other teams of 13,14,15,. And you think they can play at this level with grown man? these are still little boys some who balls haven't drop, and you find it frustrating?

SGV born and raised said:

Behind or at the same level as Rio Ruiz, Nick Hines has been one of the best starting pitchers in the area for a while. Why wouldnt you use him as a pitcher. Last year he was approached by Amat and Northview as a pitcher and you dont even have him throw a bullpen? Also, the kid is coming out of a knee injury and you have him catching oout of the gates? YOu need to protect him, you are the coach!

Hard Days Night said:

Rock Day,
Are you fricken kidding me? Asking the coach to try your lineup. I'm ill.

Rock Day said:

An olive Branch for David Olivas...!

Senior Pitcher/utility player. Was giving the opportunity to return to the colt line-up . while I don't agree. It may be an good move for Pete to gain back upperclassman confidence in his ability to make unpopular, sound moves.Hey Pete try this.

Olivas on mound batt.1st
Munoz SS 2nd
Moran 1st 3rd
Noah catch 4th
Piers 3rd 5th
Kyle left 6th
Hynes right 7th
Navaro 2nd 8th
Steven C-field 9th
Andy DH DH
Bring up Ramses from jv he is a good out-field
note:tell the rest to hang on for the ride..!Go Colts

REal story about the SAn Dimas vs Bonita match up -
No Drossel and No Leyland equals not the same team as last year. Too bad San Dimas can't clone those two guys into Freshman.

BPBOY said:

I told you not to sleep on BP. They are for real this year.
They have some quality paople there whoo know what tradition is. Mostly all those coaches are from the BP teams from the early 90's.
I bet freddy remembers those teams. when they were moved from the lowly montview league to the mighty sierra league.
Didn't matter though they still won league.
Don't sleep!

To Go Colts: Loaiza is a joke. You will continue to be frustrated throughout the whole year. He is not a leader of men, but just a guy with a big mouth. Wilson didn't have much but he actually made them worse. Covina will be bad for a while under him.

Go Colts said:

"Frustrating" You chose to have a young untested team at the Varsity level. It's one thing to play Travel ball with little boys and entirely different playing with young men at the High School level. Are you up to the task or will your poor judgement continue through the season and destroy Covina's tradition of being a top competitor.

A Town said:

Northview beat Pomona 9-1. Ruvalcaba got the win on the mound and Ryan Arnold hit a homerun and double to lead the Vikings.

Did Bonita win??? How about some stats?

tue-thurs games suck said:

So this is how the tues-thurs games are going to get ripped in coverage? Any word on the NV opening league game? YES-I see Covina got trounced. How did the Bonita-San Dimas game go?

trublue said:

does anyone know if salcido from baldwin park has received any college offers? hes under rated. anyone who has seen him pitch knows hes one of the top 3 pitchers in the valle vista league

Rock Day said:

Unearrrnedddd...!

It seems so impossible that the colts could go down so hard. All the travel team experiance brought to the table was supposed to put the colts over the top.Its not a learning curve its called bad judgement. You have earned every bit of your season to come. Pete you have ball players that could do a better job than your freshman.Make the needed canges and stop bleeding. Do it for the kids...!
