cant win;
ur right brother. these amat people are celebrating like they just accomplished something big. cantwell is horrible. i think there are some softball teams out there that can beat them. amat is pathetic this year. their best player is a freshmen, that says it all.
SGV,
You do realize that Amat played Cant(WIN)well, right!!!! Based on the fact that Cant(WIN)well can not pitch, play defense or offense may have something to do with the Amat win, so when you hand out all the congrats to the players you mentioned please be sure to keep this in mind.
Congrats to Bishop Amat who bounced back on Friday with an overwhelming 17-0 win over Cantwell High School. Zuniga pitched a gem, defense played great, and the hitting was awesome led by shortstop Genzuk with 3 hits, 3rd base Rios, left fielder Anderson, and center fiielder Rodriguez, all with multiple hits. Way to go Lancers.
I hear you Fred. But this guy has been at it for quite a while now . Nothing but negativity and not only against AMAT but other SGV schools as well and as a matter fo fact scroll down on this thread and see where he bashed our pitcher Paez . That post if any posts should have been deleted. No need to take it that far . I could see if it was a general post concerning our pitching ok, but to single out an individual and by name I thought those types of post weren't going to be allowed.

Okay guys, keep it cool, alright.
trublue,
I will make sauce with those apples just like most of time your butterflies took on AMAT we squashed you. Look nobody on gives a dam about your butterlies so put that in your pipe and smoke it. Now as far as you not commenting on AMAT I seriously doubt you can live up to that statement, you know you have always wanted to be a LANCER deep down inside. Why else would move to Covina . To get closer to LANCERLAND that's why. As I had posted earlier why don't you find a nice little oc blog and stick to where you will have much in common with other bloggers. We surely do not need your negative posts on AMAT everytime you come on the blog. Why not for once write about one of our many teams who are having a successful season so far in games that have been played such as Bonita,Nogales to name a few. It's people like you who have torn the blog down and now that the rebuilding process has started you want to continue with your negative outlook . There is no place for that here so please, move on.
amat 73:
dont worry i wont talka bout ur crappy lancers any longer. i do not discuss matters of irrelevant teams. enough bashing them already, theyve had enough of that on the diamond already. by the way mater dei is 5-0 and ranked #1 in the la times. how u like them apples? lol
It looks as if things will be changing a little in the Serra League and a ton in the Mission League. Alemany is headed over to the Serra and Cathedral, Harvard-Westlake, and Serra will be heading to the Mission in 2010. It'll be interesting to see how many other leagues will undergo any changes.
Look, baseball is a game of adversity. Now will be the time players and coaches learn a little about themselves and their team. Now is the time you buckle down and work harder.
Nothing comes easy and you shouldn’t want it that way! There will always be someone bigger, faster, stronger and maybe better. Just maybe, the teams you played so far are just better. So what, learn from it and keep working hard.
Tomorrow is new day.. Start fresh and keep looking in the mirror and asking yourself, I am doing everything to help my team! If everyone can do that, then that’s all anyone can ask, regardless where you go to school.
Enjoy the season and have fun!

Well, maybe another in their league will have a chance!!!
That is a good idea, I know some of our other newspapers have created chat rooms, I'll ask about it. Make all payments to fred.robledo@sgvn.com ...jkjk,
I've only read a few threads but sounds too negative. It's not how you start it's how you finish. I know there's unhappiness with the coach but give the kids a break.
Frank Corona.....Great idea,I like it..Sign me up. Don'T know what the cost would be, But i think there may be a huge amount of people participating,Maybe a new topic once a week on thursday night before football. Fred take a look just for laughs.
How about others start signing in with their names instead of screen names? The water's fine and Fred has everyone's back. There was never anything to fear "but fear itself!!" I think others will do likewise and show that it's okay to have a different opinion or a difference of opinion and not lose your mind, morals or honor. Sports is by it's nature suspect to many different emotions and mood swings but ultimately no matter what you do or say in life you should be able to stand behind your words. I knew an athlete once who every coach, some I actualy admired, who used to gush over a player. "He's THAT kid...teh one who has winner written all over him!" I use dto tell them..."He's the worst! He'll let you down when it counts and wil make mistake afte mistake until he finally graduates and everyone will say, including him, WTF happened?"
It was a sincere difference of opinion. We now all shake our head and say..."WOW!" One day one of teh coahces asked me how I knew. "It's always about production. And he never produced. Sometimes your heart and your mind see different things"...the coach tell me..."NOW YOU TELL ME!!! Where were you when I married my first wife!" And we both laughed.
Maybe the blog needs to understand the difference between what the heart tells you and what you eyes see....although sometimes it's just better to see with your heart...cuz you never know! Look at USC in the Pac 10 Tournamant...Champions Produce.
Fight ON!!!!!!!
Fred ever wonder what a sgv tribune "chat room" would look like? Not sure how they work or what the costs would be but that would be fun. The idea that an hour or two would be given to an "open forum" only works if peopel have a "buy in" to participate. The blog might be free but a "chat room" would be a pay to play type ogf enterprise. That would eliminate the stalkers and drive by artist and crazies but also give the true sports "nuts" their fix. Maybe even get guest "coaches" to answer questions about specific dynamics separate from personnel decisions. For example..."how dod you stop the spread? Why do teams run the "wing T and what are the variations of zone coverages? It would be informative and actually lay the foundation for an appreciation of what coaches go thru in getting team's ready fo an opponenet. Fred what happend to the Sportwriters and Coaches Round Table? I KNOW that was a good idea..(shaking my head in disbelief)
i am not a amat fan or there coach, but geesh everyone, give it some time, they might get better they might not, that happens in sports, (every) level,(every) sport.and like i have said in the past, they were in a lower division, not there fault, that is cif.they still had to beat the teams in front of them.
Top of the morning,
School donations is what it is called. Parents chip in as well. Private School Private business, none of yours. Green Jerseys were cool, the Loss was horrible.
I guess Amat's green uni's worked out as well for them as they do for the Fighting Irish!
Btw, I guess it's nice that some schools can splurge on uniforms that'll only be worn once, especially considering the ecomomic times we live in.
Well it looks like we have true AMAT hater/stalkler in trublue. Well what more could you expect from md,oc transplant. As far as our LANCERS it does look like they are sputtering a little out the gate. All is not lost and we still have some time to right the ship . I for one do believe the chemistry factor may have something to do with it ( a lot of new faces ) but Nieto does have to do something soon or it will get away from us. Keep the Faith we should be ok by league. By the way the teams we have lost to are not all that bad themselves so give them credit for the wins also.
Glad to see a new blog on the irrelevant 2-3 Bishop Amat team. In case any on cares, the #1 ranked Bonita team beat San Dimas last night 6-2!!!
What an embarassing loss that was last night. The thing that gets me is that the coaches did not seem to have an answer for what was happening on the field. This is not the same team as the previous two years where it was easy to play and coach with a large lead.
The leadership that was mentioned in a previous post must start at the top.
It seems that no matter what happens the little guy does not want to make the changes needed, whether it be because he can not accept the shot to his ego, or that he made promises to certain players and parents, but whatever it is he needs to do what's best for the team. Make the changes coach you may just win!!!
joe amat:
continued...
amat baseball is now a joke. stick to d5 you cant compete with the big boys. when a freshmen is your best player you know your in trouble. nothing against rio though, he cant do it on his own. and im glad paez lost by the way. he was the most over rated player in the sgv last year. he never lost a game but he faced a bunch of cupcakes along the way. he received a d1 offer based on what he did last year but that school is gonna regret they offered him, he has no serious potential in the future. hey joe you have a lot of times to respond to these posts why dont u contact tom house or some other pitching coach ur team needs it pal.
Frank, early on what I've found is that people aren't arguing back and forth and getting crazy because it takes a while for comments to go up, which could be a good thing. Tempers don't flare up that way. You're right, now people mostly leave comments on the subject, the banter is better and all the craziness is left for me in cyberspace. But we're still working on a better sign-in system, if it's not in place, I may have special hours where comments are open when I can monitor them, or on Friday night football, or special events. If we can change the tone enough in here, I think it will be okay to open it up again for a few hours at a time.
who's a transfer?
Truth...
Tough to sit players when the coach PROMISED parents and players certan roles to get them to transfer away from other schools.
He made his bed, now he's lying in it. I hope this takes him down. By him, i mean that dirty little coach.
I really like the new blog Fred! People have opinions and thankfully no one's over the top. In a wierd way now that bloggers don't trash each other the criticisms look more like critiques than anything else. Playing at Bishop Amat is tough but I'm sure it's been rewarding as well so maybe nows the time for all Lancers to appreciate the new format and get to business of rallying the troops. Maybe it is chemistry, that's always the first place to start and the last place people suspect. Good luck Lancers.
For the past few years Amat pitching has been spoiled by players who could play great defense. Reyes and Mistone got to balls that most high schools cannot. Plays that looked routine the last of couple of years are not happening this year. In a bunt situation we had our 3rd baseman playing deep and he just missed catching a popped up bunt. Our shortstop doesn't have the arm to play as deep as Reyes did. He also doesn't have the height to snag line drives. Maybe a change is coming in the infield.
Joe A.,
Chemistry Issues?
That should be figured out by now. Bottom line: Amats pitching is tanking big time. This is what happens when coaches have certain favorites that they refuse to sit. It happens everywhere, not just at Amat. Andy will have to deal with his conscience for the sake of would be wins. If Andy does not give his team a shake up now and opens the season this way the Lancers will be losers this year and nowhere close to any kind of contention.
Matter of Time,
Moving up a division has nothing to do with it-they're simply not very good right now as a team. They played nearly the exact schedule a year ago (when they were in D4) and did well. That difference in divisions will show up at playoff time which, thankfully, is a long ways away - because the Lancers are just not playing well right now. However - it's a marathon - not a sprint and if the pitchers are throwing well and peaking in May that may be a good thing. I do have confidence in Coach Beck bringing them along to wherever their potential can take them. We do need to solve some chemistry issues.
As was stated many moons ago, the left fielder and the right fielder need to sit. The left fielder dove for an uncatchable ball with the bases loaded and cost the team 3 runs on his own not to mention he is unable to hit consistently. The right fielder damn near dropped a routine fly ball again and he too is unable to consistently hit, so he hit a HR at Henderson and that is going to buy him another 15 strikeouts, the experiment should be over get the seniors on the field. The pitching needs to get better or it will be a long season.
Coach let's stop the experiment with our shortstop. He is killing us. He has no arm and a very light bat. You should bring up Nick Martines from the JV and put him at third and move Rio Ruiz to short. J.J. should also be in the lineup everyday. If I'm not mistaken isn't he hitting .500

Enough! Amat at best very average this year. Enough of the "I can't believe they lost". There are so many other better SGV teams to cover. So much hype for their stud frosh, animal pitcher, and convenient transfers and it is all for nothing. I am not taking away from what they have now, they just do not have the quality they have had in the past.
You knew it was a matter of time before the well ran dry for Andy Nieto. Moved up one level and the Lancers are?well? not much to talk about. That D5 was where their level of play is. Andy had it all for two years but now it is time to coach and with the looks of things Amat baseball has a pending doom hanging over it. League has not started but if this is a indication of their play at this point in the season they will not be in the hunt at all this year. Just a opinion. No Malice intended.
OUCH !
This smells a lot like lack of leadership at amat this season. Nieto has to have someone step up and assume some leadership. Looks like they lost alot more than just stud bats from last season. They lost leadership. Also, as far as the pitching goes, I think just because you're coming back for your senior year and youve been successful in the past doesnt mean automatically its a done deal the next season. Amat pitchers have not improved at all from last season and in fact have regressed. They're being passed up, theyve topped out. This is my opinion. You can agree or not but this is what the blog is about.
Ouch. 11-0 to Chatsworth for Amat. Must've been the special lunch the teams ate that got to Amat. A game at USC between two teams going in vastly different directions. Chatsworth going North and Amat going South. Our beloved Amat should be 1-4. Half Pint may want to start consuming a Full Pint to help figure this mess out.
I was a baseball and softball official for 20 plus years and for the most part i enjoyed working with the coaches and the players. I stopped officiating when the parents of some of the area teams became far too much to deal with (frankly the compensation you receive is not worth the aggravation). I been asked in the recent past to come back and although I've thought about it, the answer is you couldn't pay me enoough. I don't think parents will change anytime soon, if anything it's going to get worse. That's why when i read some of the blog comments, i shudder.
Wow, I hope we are just warming up!Not use to having such a slow start,C`mon Lancers, you need to get hungry.
