Baseball Preview Thursday; Shirley Denied

Wow!, this was a real quality post. In theory I'd like to write like this too - taking time and real effort to make a good article... but what can I say... I procrastinate a lot and never seem to get something done

This is my first time I have visited here. I found a lot of interesting information in your blog. From the volume of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the only one! keep up the great work.

Judy North...you want athletes to come to your school, but you won't let any leave. And if they try, you do something sneaky to make sure they aren't eligible. Isn't that true?

Make an appeal to CIF State. Hey if that b-baller at Workman CJ Guerrero made it happen you can too.

its not up to WC for him to be ok to play its covina unified that does all the investagating....

I know cause I've been informed by different coaches on what happened with this situation, and also because with the past transfers who were lost that I know of, WC didn't make an issue of it.

Get the story right--unless you're an administrator at WC how do you know they would have let it go like all the other transfers. Doubt it. It's chicken sh@t that WC and CIF are making such a big a big deal. I'm with Fred on just let the kids play.

McCuff, nice little spin job, your twisting this thing a 180 degree's backwards, sure Jacob is a good kid, he's a great kid and I wish him well, but tell me exactly who was giving him a hard time at WC? The only reason WC protested is because of the
reason that cif was given
for the transfer.
The reason given was that Shirley was being harrassed, when in truth he wasn't being harrassed at all. This made West Covina students/teammates look bad and it made the school look like they were letting this happen to Shirley which wasn't true, the coaches wouldn't let that happen. This is the only reason WC would cite undue influence. If they hadn't given that false excuse about the hardship WC would have let this go like they have let other
transfers go. When called on it the person giving cif the excuse admitted to WC that it was just an excuse so they could get the transfer.
So Fred try not to side so quickly with South Hills
on this matter.
To the person who said WC won't be as good as last season, I disagree. West Covina should be much better this coming season, the kids are working hard in the offseason and will be ready for your Huskies.

to the guy who goes by huskies, thats funny how you say we have no QB and that we have no defence and that your team could be better this year, dude you starting to sound like FRED. your team is done your team had alot of seniors and did you forget that our JV team beat your JV team what 49 to 6. your getting no transfers your future QB left and you have no running game. heck your starting running wouldent even start over at west covina. get over it South Hills is great for the TRIBUNE ONLY. so you guys have 2 tuff games next year and you loose both of them and the TRIBUNE will still give your team a lot of love. If South Hills would have bet West Covina last year the TRIBUNE would have put in the front page the kings of Cameron but you LOST and all they did was put a small article. talk all you want will see next year.....

Low blow McCuff. So low, that I am not even going to quote you. You can't single people out who have no control over a situation. If you want to talk about falling apart mention the many poor decision makers in this kids life who gerrymandered and campaigned to try to fly a kid, who is big as a blimp in this area, under the radar and across town. Who really lost? The kid and all who love to see a great hurler.

No fool just letting you know whats going to happen... WC next year will not be better than the WC team this year... SH this coming year could potentially be even better overall than they were this year... WC has no QB and no Defense, it's hard to win games like that... GOOD LUCK!

shirly didnt want to leave WC he had to leave because of his dad, from what i hear his dad was a pain in the butt. nobody was mad at him because of football all of his buddys are still from WC. when WC played South Hills in football Shirly was on the WC side with his freinds. and for the foool that said South Hill is going to beat WC in football this coming season you got another thing coming WC is going to kill them dogs....

why is it that everyone thinks it's only south hills who recruits -- all schools, yes, all high schools have permit kids, "live with" kids or kids with downright phony addresses -- big freakin deal, it should only be a problem when they start to school hop every year.

Just move? HA. Why not just lie and give a Covina address like all the other kids do? Man, talk about investigative reporting...there should be a story on how many kids are being recruited into South Hills and do not live in Covina. I personally know of at least 3 in the past 5 years. Doesn't sound like much, but how many are there? Would be cool to find out.

From what I've heard the football teams (WC vs. SH) have played some pretty good games recently. I wonder how that would go if WC had WC players, and SH had Covina products...nah, we like good games too. Please South Hills, don't stop recruiting, then you'd be as unwatchable as the Colts across town, and NOBODY wants that! HAHAHAH

I use the word students because there are MANY good students that leave and go to Hollenbeck. See, because I do NOT see high school sports like professionals (get over yourself) I DO tell it like it is...These KIDS are students. Sucked into the recruiting and games playing of SMith, Bogan and the rest of the gang. Sure I know some of these "athletes" not be asked to take real classloads over there, but they are still technically STUDENTS afterall. Are you opening the can of worms that SOuth Hills doesn't view their kids as students first? WOW...maybe someone would like to know this fact.

I also think the fact that WC kids are left on waiting lists for other permit kids stinks. SO i feel for that post. And I also think if WC wants to fight for athletes, someone needs to stick up for the students too.

THESE KIDS ARE STUDENTS! THEY ARE NOT PROS. PARENTS NEED TO WAKE UP AND DECIDE WHAT'S BEST FOR THEIR KID. Do not listen to bloggers or coaches. You all know the stats, little Johny will not be playing sports in 5 years, so maybe STUDENT should stop being a bad word...

Others made it tough for him to stay at the same school his brothers went too. His choice was WCHS as a freshmen, WCHS let him down by not protecting him when he stopped football. They did move and no one recruited him. They made a tough family decision at great personal expense to do what was best for Jacob. It's a shame that Loringer is so bitter that his program has fallen apart because of his own incompetence, that he has to take it out on young men with a future.

I can accept that if you would look into any of the un-due influence that goes on around your hero Bogans area of covina. Jacob Shirley--just move--geeze you live 100 yards from the border of SH on the WC side--just move---give me a break West Covina--he lives closer to South Hills than West Covina and if a kid doen't want to go to your school why force him, so he can not thrive and drop out. No kid left behind, parents should be able to pick the school...

maybe if wc would stop letting in kids from all over the wc kids would want to go there--but kids are being brought in from everywhere--my daughter had to wait for an AP class because it was full--10 kids were permit kids--go figure? I buy a home in wc district , pay my taxes and my kids have to go on waiting lists? sorry. thats why she's at lucy's and why the wc kids don't want to go there.

Why should WCHS continually allow their best students to go to South Hills? These kids are products of WEST COVINA schools, not Covina. West Covina should start fighting EVERY kid who wants to go to South Hills. Why do they always play second fiddle and allow South Hills to cherry-pick AND RECRUIT WC kids?

Inside info is that the Spartans have never worked so hard.The new coach is not going to accept anything but success. He is going to play small ball and bunt his way to a CIF Title. Great arms with a major league coach. Demanding head coach who will run his players and not even listen to parent complaints. Who is this masked man????

I like your post's their always entertaining and informative. Diamond Bar is looking all right, I think they will battle in the ever so tough Sierra League. Watched a few innings of their game last Saturday their short stop made some great plays. They hit the ball well! the outfield was shacky to say the least. By the time I got there it was the 5 or 6 pitcher, so I can't comment on that.

What I'm hearing about Shirley is that West Covina is citing "undue influence," making his transfer very difficult. I don't know why school's fight it so hard, just let the kids play.

What you have to realize is these are top ten previews, not entire Valley previews. We just don't have the space or time to do a complete thorough job of all the teams anymore. And sorry, but the best teams are the best teams, and you will continue to read about them the most. That's why it's great when someone comes in here and talks about the others, that's what this blog is for.

Maybe someone can explain why WC would fight shirley's release. How many kid's are at SH on permits from WC. Can someone explain?

Reading Steve Ramirez' Softball preview I realized that I wasn't satisfied with it (like all the rest of you whiners) and couldn't expect to be happy with the Baseball preview no matter what day it comes out.

So . . . I decided what we need is an alternative Baseball preview, sort of something for those of us who just aren't going to be happy reading about Northview and Klena again and how Rio will skip the High School season to head right for his Cooperstown induction .

A little something for the rest of us:

1.La Verne Lutheran – Rumor is the Trojans have brought in Davey Johnson for 2009
2.Gladstone - Great field, the Head Coach's pants will fit me, and nicknamed Happy Rock
3.West Covina – Passionate fans and really close to that Hollenbeck Park action too
4.St. Lucy's – Hey, if Ramirez won't put them on his Softball list, I'll use 'em here
5.Covina – What, no Pills left? May have to re-visit this one
6.Western Christian – The lady at Ralphs said they were going to be really good this year
7.Diamond Bar – Yeah I know they aren't in the Trib's circulation area, but they don't
8.Rosemead – Fear the meat! Whooot!
9.Damien – They'll probably be on Fredo's list too but they can't get enough action here
10.Wilson – Everyone deserves a little attention without using Hoyd's name, right?

Who do they have to pitch? It will be tough for Damien without pitching! The Sierra League is stacked with great hitters. Every team in the Sierra can hit, hit, hit! Pitching will be the biggest factor.

Looks like Damien will go undeafeted this year. Genious for a coach and pitching coach. New drills and insights on how to coach. These new coaches are the 2nd coming and the parents will hop on board there will be no complaining at all!!!!
