Baseball rankings? This is tough

| | Comments (17) |

The new rankings come out tomorrow, and there will be lots of movement at the top. I've decided that Bonita will be the new No. 1, though others make a strong argument too. When the CIF polls are released later, I'll post them.

The future is NOW,

Excuse me, but it is NOT called run differential. The tie-breaker used in the Glendora Tourney was least amount of runs allowed.
They use this system so teams don't run up the score on lesser teams.

Bonita gave up only 13 runs in their 3 games before the final & NV gave up 15 runs. Therefore, Bonita went to the finals.

fred lets do it write, next season make the glendora trouney, the teams that finish in the top ten rankings 2009 season ,play in the glendora for #1 ranking. then n.v stop crying, its just a poll get your heads out of the computer, now that clairmount cruched u .whos next b.p. or basset. it must be hard to sleep at night with a bearcat on top of your dreams.all the rings are won ,not givin,so bearcats everybody on the team ,do your job,,keep coming together as a team ,and the skys the limit,,nice job n.v. LAST YEAR, now get back to earth.your a little scrappy team .play little ball, because big bats are on the bonita BOMBCATS.

Just for the record the tie breaker rule is not some freak rule. It is used by in all major tournaments. It called run differential for you NV fans who don’t understand it.

Head to head doesn’t make any sense in a round robin tournament when everyone has not played everyone. Even if the 2 teams happen to play each other they did not play all the same a team so pitching situation is not even which is why they go to run differential, to measure the entire staff.

NV if you beat your cupcake you may have claim to number 1 but for now don’t sprain you neck looking up.

First of, I am a BEARCAT fan, now that is out of the way, I do agree with Brad, NV did win head to head but like the BCS is all about timing, and that sucks.

I don't have a problem with Bonita being #2. It moves them up drastically from where they started and hopefuly makes them want it that much more...but hey what do I know, I am not a huge baseballholic.

I'm not sure polls mean anything or not, they're good exposure and get the folks talking, but it would be nice to see them have credibility. What's the rhyme or reason for Northview losing their #1 ranking to Bonita? They beat them head to head with #1's throwing, but you weren't there, so you don't acknowledge it or want to. They both end up 3-1 and Bonita ends in championship due to some odd tiebreaker rule. If the tiebreaker was head to head which makes most sense, Bonita doesn't end up in the championship at all, so they get the nod at #1 also? Jeez, seems like they're getting all the breaks over Northview, but on the field, where it matters most and Northview hasn't just won this year, they've won the last 5 times they've played over the 4 years of this years senior class. Fred, you wanted to make a case for Bonita being #1 before it all started over Northview and now you get your chance to do it. You bumped Amat over Northview last year too when Northview hadn't lost the previous week. I know this gets the bloggers talking, but the poll loses its credibility when you bump teams for no reason. I wish Steve Ramirez would stand up for the logic he gave couple weeks ago to someone about polls because this isn't what he'd do according to that logic he shared. Just doesn't make sense. With that being said, I think Bonita is a good team.

1 Bonita
2 Northview
3 Damien
4 Glendora

Northview beat Bonita but one by 1 run while Nothview lost to an 0 and 2 Claremont team. Damien goes to number 3 after a close game with Yucaipa. There stud 3rd baseman hit a deep shot havent seen one that far in years at Damien which has a big park. Glendora is playing well but doesnt have the experience yet.

Poet,

The D3 pre-season poll was a real crap shoot especially considering the league mix the section used when they assembled it. #1 Ranked Paramount is 1-4 so far as is #3 pick Elsinore and your Lancers. The difference at this stage is that La Serna has losses have all been to contenders: St Paul, Fullerton, Westminister and they gave 4-1 Laguna Hills their only loss so far this year.

CalHi is another Del Rio team to watch come post season, they are 4-1 having whipped Serra, LB Poly, Banning, and West Torrance and lost only to Loyola. As good as our best teams in the San Antonio and Miramonte are, they will have a loooooong hard climb to the top of the D3 pile.

It will be interesting to see what the coaches come up with in the next vote.

Bonita has a few definite college level players and deserve to be ranked #1- it was riddiculus thathet pre-season coach's poll did not rank them top ten in D3. They will now.

It is early. Some teams off to bad starts will end strong. La Serna started 1-3 last year and ended 20-9. Other teams did the same thing. So NV or BA or any of the good teams losing some close games early may or may not be significant. Let's see how they're doing 10-15 games in. We'll see. Good luck to all of the kids and coaches this season

One game can't make or break a team whether that's head to head with a rival or the championship of our local tournament. My loyalties are to Northview but Bonita has proved in every game we've played against them that they are right up there with any top team. Giving them #1 in a token ranking honors our boys as well as them. There was some really sharp ballclubs out there this week. I really enjoyed the games. Thanks Fred!

Fred,

Interesting, Bonita #1?? I eagerly await your poll posting. Either way you are gonna take some heat, but thats why they pay you the big bucks. The pending SGV Bball poll is fun to blog about, but truly the only poll that matters is the final poll. Good luck to all the players and coaches as league opens. Stay healthy and God Bless.

GO Damien!

this is gonna make the football rankings seem easy to do.
good luck - then get ready for the fred blasting.

NO WAY BONITA IS #1 said:

FRED - DID YOU KNOW BONITA GOT INTO THE FINAL AGAINST GLENDORA DUE TO A FLUKE TIE-BREAKER - NOT NECESSARILY ON MERIT ALONE LIKE GLENDORA.. SO IF TWO TEAMS BOTH GO 3-1, LOGIC WOULD SAY IT COMES DOWN TO HEAD-TO-HEAD COMPETITION. WASN'T THAT NV AND AMAT'S WHOLE MANTRA LAST YEAR? CONGRATS TO BONITA FOR WINNING THE TOURNAMENT BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT TEAMS THAT PLAYED GLENDORA - THE NUMBERS AND LUCK WENT THEIR WAY.

Hey Fred when will we see softball rankings?

What is so tough Fred. I thought I read over the weekend where you said the winner of GHS/BHS was going to be number 1. BHS won the game convincingly and should be #1...end of story. yeah - they lost to NV, but that was without Jeff Gelalich. All NV had to do is beat an 0-2 Claremont team and they were in. BHS played the best baseball over the 4-game stretch and showed their depth. Should be a great season!!!

Monrovia High School this year has a good team and strong one. Coach Blackmore and Coach Moore have out done them self with picking this team. They are going to take it all the way. Lets hope some of you come out to take a good strong look at the boys. They are really great.
