Baseball: Walnut outlasts Nogales

| | Comments (25) |

Above: Jimmy Saucedo, seen here pitching against Gabrielino last season, tossed a four-hit shutout to lead South El Monte past Mountian View on Wednesday.

Walnut 8, Nogales 7
I covered the Walnut at Nogales softball game, which Walnut scored two runs in the seventh to win, 2-0. After, I trotted over the baseball game, and watched the end as the Mustangs held off the Nobles, 8-7. Nogales athletic director Bruce Alley told me Walnut got up 8-0 before Nogales rallied. The Nobles got one runner on in the seventh, but they were unable to advance him and dropped the one-run decision.
South El Monte 7, Mountain View 0
Jimmy Saucedo tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out six to lead the Eagles.
Other Scores

Charter Oak 10, Wilson 0

Well said King Randy!

Ok, I suppose that I deserve all the hoopla for that boo boo there, but I was only at the game for just one inning or so.

It wasn’t as if I sent my whole afternoon at the ball park.

Fact was that I was just riding my little yellow bicycle along Ramona blvd when I saw a bunch of folks hanging around the bleachers, so I thought id go over, be nosey, and check out all the commotion.

Next time I’ll ask. Ha ha ha.

Yikes !

Was that DBHS that today took out number 5 ranked Chino in the CIF Div 2 poll??? Hmmmm.....So, that probably takes them to number 7 next week huh guys? Look who they played, look at who they have beat...then try to sort out those BIG Div 2 victories that all these other SGV top "ranked" teams have...oh wait,....your gonna have a hard time doing that.....cuz they were all playing in the cracker jack tourney......don't tell me what you did last year.....base your ranking on whose kicking whose a$$es this year......the wins don't lie....meanwhile the Brahmas just keep putting up the W's........hell yeah!

jcaz,

no offense, but if you dont know the difference between jv ball and varsity ball after about the first 10 seconds of being there then you're waaay out of it......at least for baseball is concerned

Walnut insider,
Nogales should have never made it that close? we threw a 3rd string pitcher at Walnut, why the drama from your coach giving us the opportunity to make a game out of it. I agree with Mr. Antone if Melchor pitches it is a different game altogether. When is your first baseman #24 Erik Petersen going to pitch for Walnut? I hear he is a pitcher as well.

Oh and one more thing here.

Fred, if your still reading this blog even on your off time, then please look for a package that I sent to you.

It's my way of sayng thanks for all your hard work.

The Blog is D.O.A.

I think that perhaps I would have agreed with you to a certain extent, but just yesterday I saw that the Christian Science monitor was going almost strictly to an online format. So it that’s the case, then this blog is safe because it seems as if most of these newspapers resources are going into their online services at this point.

Hey Joe, that was good.

But in my defense, I had just gotten off a 15 hour plane ride from Europe.

I decided to take a bike ride to get over the jet lag and just happened to come across that game.

Like a dummy, I assumed it was the varsity game, but of course, I never even asked anyone. Duh...

Oh well...

Walnut 8, Nogales 7

I already know Walnut is HORRIBLE what does this say about Nogales? Who's ranked #4? Come on guys the best in crappy leagues is not the best in the SGV.

Walnut Insider said:

nice victory for Hoff and his team.

San Antone Insider said:

Does not matter NUT,

Walnut's coach always finds a way to screw up the season. Up 8-0 to Nogales a team that the trib had ranked says alot about this team from Walnut this year. Talent is there which includes picturing (ha ha)but Holf will screw it up like he has been doing for the last 6-7 years. So Hills is next, win that one then we are talking. Speaking of pitching or picturing. If Nogales throws Melchor the Nobles win.

Anyone else hear that the LA TIMES is going to be published only four days a week from now on?

The other day I read where a 157 year old newspaper would shut down and become an online "reference" for the locals!

Those who complain about the lack of Fred, Aram, Steve or Miguel's professionalism or whatever might not have to put up with them much longer...and that would be a terrible shame.

These guys do the best they can, most have the credentials and education to do their jobs under the most trying of circumstances yet bloggers take swipes at them over and over again. With national well funded and respected newspapers shutting their doors and advertising dollars shrinking what real hope does the Tribune have to survive?

Rupert Murdoch, it was just announced, lost 57% of his net worth in 12 months!!!! Fox Network is bleeding money at an alarming rate and poor old Fred and Steve and others are just "doing the best they can" to NOT QUIT and get "real jobs"...pretty sad.

The blog is slowly dying. The time it takes to monitor the blog and the efforts it's going to take to impose civility will soon become an expense that the Tribune can ill afford.

It comes down to this...does the blog generate newspaper sales? This reminds me of a Dad I saw recently at a basketball game. He had a camcorder in one hand and a camera in the other....both hands were up to his face trying to get the right shot...I kept thinking....are either one of those shots going to be in focus?

Hope Fred and Steve stick around awhile if for nothing else than it keeps the dog from getting kicked..at least in some homes.

Man, I was just kidding!

Woke up this morning and no fishwrap in the driveway... and my $29 automatic withdraw camme out last week!

The papers not really dead... is it?

Joe Amat said:

jcaz,

This might make you better.

Fred told Steve, "Just feed the cat three meals a day, and take good care of him. He's my prize-winning cat!" And with that, he left.

On Monday, Fred phoned Steve on his cell phone and asked, "How are things?" To which Steve responded, "Things are fine."

"How's things at the Trib?"

"Things are fine."

"How's my cat?"

"The cat's fine." Satisfied, Fred hung up.

Yesterday , Fred called Steve again, asking the same questions.

"How are things?"

"Things are fine."

"How's things at the paper?"

"Paper's fine."

"How's the cat?"

"The cat's DEAD."

"WHAT?!?" Fred was quite distressed. "How could you let it die? It was my prize cat!"

"Well, Fred, I'm sorry, but I couldn't do anything, I didn't see it. But what I think happened was that the cat was on the roof, fell off, and broke his leg Then, he hobbled out into the road, and got run over."

Fred was cooling down a bit now, and said, "Well, couldn't you have tried to break it to me over time? You could have said it bit by bit. For example, you could have first said 'The cat's on the roof', then the next day said 'The cat fell off the roof, and broke its leg', see what I'm saying."

"Yeah, yeah, I get it, Steve said. See you later, Fred."

"Ok... bye." Fred hung up.

Today, Fred phoned Steve again.

"How are things?"

"Things are fine."

"How's the Paper?"

"Umh," Steve said, "The Trib's on the roof."

NUT?

"PICTURES"???? Come on now,try PITCHERS!

nut said:

Walnut would be 2-0 in league if they will use thier Sr's pictures

nut said:

Walnut does have pitching Holf didn't pitch them agains DB, Jason Kerr who shut down Nogales. Steven Garcia for some reason Holf don't pitch him. And Krik Fagen. Who finsh off Nogales. It was the Jr's that gave up 6 runs in the 6th. Walnut 3 Sr pitcher are the best around now if the Holf will use them.

jcaz said:

Yup I think your right on the money there because just as I posted that, I realized tht maybe, just maybe, I wandered into the wrong game.

Oh well...jcaz was confused I guess.

jcaz,

If you went to Baldwin Park on Tuesday and watched a game, then you either saw a frosh-soph game or a jv game. The Northview-Baldwin Park varsity game was at Northview and they were wearing their home whites. That picture was taken on Tuesday.

Really? said:

Walnut? really? Wow! I was at the Diamond Bar/Walnut game. Walnut is aweful. They don't have any pitching, and the pitching they do have is....well...horrible. If Nogales doesn't kick their butts all over the field than Nogales has no right to be in the top ten. Sorry but Walnut is terrible.

a fan said:

That picture, I believe, is from the Varsity game which was played at NORTHVIEW.

sgvpride said:

Nothing on the blog about the all star game for basketball?

jcaz said:

I don't know, but it just might be old age setting in here for me, but, if I recall correctly, yesterdays game at Baldwin Park had Northview wearing a darker uniform with the words Northview written in script on their chests.

So, unless they changed their "chonies" (or uniforms so to speak), then perhaps this picture is somewhat dated ?
