Baseball Top 10: Bonita keeps up the pace
Top 10 Rankings: Bonita continues to be the team beat, keeping the foot on the floor with victories over intra-district rival San Dimas and Los Altos. Northview continues to hold onto the second spot, but we have a few shuffling through the rest of the field as Damien moves up to No. 3 after a big win over Chino Hills. Nogales rides the arm of Andrew Melchor to No. 4, while Glendora, Bishop Amat and San Dimas drop a few positions. The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by Diamond Bar, South Hills and new entry Charter Oak.

Games to watch:
Today: Baldwin Park at Northview; Glendora at Damien;
Wednesday: Walnut at Nogales
Thursday: San Dimas at Northview
Friday: Charter Oak at Bonita
Top 10 Rankings
1. Bonita (5-1) - It seems to be a two-race battle between the Bearcats and Vikings, and my gut says Northview is the better club, but Bonita, after being moved to No. 1 last week, did nothing to drop, and I won't penalize the Bearcats after a good win over San Dimas. The big game is Friday against Charter Oak.
2. Northview (5-1) - The Vikings just continue to roll. They had the one hiccup against Claremont, but toyed with Pomona last week in going 2-0 for the week. They get to test Baldwin Park today before taking on San Dimas on Thursday.
3. Damien (4-1) - The Spartans showed they are for real. It wasn't that they beat Chino Hills, but how easily. Now they get renew their rivalry with Glendora.
4. Nogales (7-2) - Andrew Melchor is as good as it gets from the hill, and he proved it with a solid outing in a 2-1 victory over South Hills. The Nobles now need to take care of business.
5. Glendora (4-3) - It was a tough week for the Tartans, who were hammered by Diamond Bar, then split with Don Lugo, and it's not like the Conquistadors still have Chad Cordero.
6. Bishop Amat (4-3) - The Lancers took a major hit, being whitewashed by Chatsworth before following with victories over Cantwell and Southgate.
7. San Dimas (4-2) - The Saints get to prove their worth when they face Northview on Thursday.
8. Diamond Bar (4-3) - The Brahmas, who have given the Valley some of its most-talented players over the years, showed they are capable of challenging in the Sierra League with a big win over Glendora. But it gets tougher with a home encounter against Ayala today.
9. South Hills (4-4) - The Huskies split two games with Nogales in a week where they could have been 2-0 or 0-2. They get a test on Friday against Walnut.
10. Charter Oak (5-3) - Welcome back, Chargers! Charter Oak showed its ready to defend its crown with a sweep of Diamond Ranch. But a matchup against top-rated Bonita awaits on Friday.

Don't compare Charter Oak to ANY teams in the Sierra league. Apples and Oranges.
Diamond Bar is he best team right now in the SGV.
Let me make this clear I don't know how it will all end up but for now DBAR is #1 enuff said.

BONITA BONITA BONITA BEARCATS, were number 1, by beating charter oak in bottom of 7.
Gio meir ties game with HR to left in bottom of 6th on a fastball. Then we get 2nd and third on a passed ball so coach walks next batter to load em up , and oh boy another pass ball and we steal home. Game over.

Ya know, brahma nation,
You may be right, but lets see how bonita does against charter oak today and how diamond bar does next week, but….. if bonita loses, then yes diamond bar moves up on the “fonzie cool board rankings”.
1. bonita
2. diamond bar
3. all the rest, northview, amat, san dimas, Damien, glendora
were ya calling me out as to personal attacks, cause never did and never will, just not cool. Hopefully dia bar and bonita both win going into the northview tourney, wouldn’t that be cool to see them square off, sierra vs miramonte, bragging rights for 2009………
oh and lets see how northview does in the classic….
Did anyone notice who hit the BIG home run against northview, the fonz did, Josh Leyland, congrats to him and san dimas.

I agree with Frank C. As usual Frank, you are on the money. Wallace has a bright future. I think football may be his ticket (just my opinion). Maybe a Mercedes Lewis or Fred Davis type TE at the next level?
Frank, maybe you could help coach up BJ. You picked up on some things that others may have not seen. A keen eye you've got. Do you do personal training/individual coaching? If not, you really ought to consider it. You have much to offer.
Thanks again. Stay positive.

Fonzie,
1.Diamond Bar
1.Bonita
2.All the rest
Look at Diamond Bar's wins and who they play. Sierra league can grind you down day in and day out.
Remember something on these blogs it's not the players bragging about themselves in most cases it's third parties. Try and refrain from personal attacks on them. Last time I checked not ONE brahama player bosted about how great they are they just play their game. That's why they have been so successful. I don't know how this will all end but, for now Diamond Bar is the best team in the SGV and the Sierra league. Keep the faith Brahmas!

Frank Corona,
Great post! I saw him play against Diamond Bar, adults that try and hurt players with their bitterness, are pathetic.

This just a question. Where is Jake Urban commited to? I hear is supposed to legit but he has not committed to college yet. Where is he getting looks from?
My vote top pitcher in the SGV is junior Dylan Covey from Maranatha.

Didn't Dave Winfield make the HOF? Dude your hate for BJ is making you look foolish. BJ was a stud in the 8th grade! I seen him singlehandedly destroy the La Verne City team that will eventually become the foundation for Bonita's Varsity Basketball team. He has size, eye/hand coordination and seems to make allot of big plays in big situations. In my mind he's a winner. If things had worked out differently this kid could have walked away with 12 Varsity letters in Basketball, Football and Baseball. That's pretty select company. Futhermore, and with BJ there is always more he made CIF as a So. at WR inspite of the fact haters said he was slow and over rated. Over rated? Does he have to make All America or All State to satisfy you haters? Again he was Top 100 Freshmen in the Country according to some publications. Can he improve, absolutely...who can't? Will he improve...absolutely, why not?
BJ, could really use some speed training or something to help lengthen his stride and get better turn over but heck he's a boy in a man's body since age 12...what do you expect...plus he plays three sports with very different body mechanics. How many Freshmen "dorks" are on teams today waiting to catch up to their bodies?
I hear some grumbling about this or that concerning BJ but I'm a big fan, and will always be, and have been since I saw him play basketball in junior high against Ramona Middle school. You should have heard parents and adults yell garbage at this kid...and he took it all in stride. Gosh I wanted to punch one moron in the face and he was on our side seeing as my son went to Ramona! How many kids would have cried themselves off the court...what BJ do? The first game he played the 3 but in the "city" game he played the "post" and just manhandled every defense and player/players they sent his way...he was incredible without being loud and resentful.
BJ don't listen to anyone but your parents and your coaches. You might be an Alex Rodriguez or a Cal Ripken or a Dave Winfield or Ed McCaffery from the Denver Broncos or what ever anyone is comparing you to but in my book being Wallace BJ Gonsalez is good enough!
Big Fan of your game and your style. Keep up the good work...better days are clearly ahead of you.
Posted by: Frank Corona | March 27, 2009 12:47 AM
BJ can't hit unless he walks into one.
Another Dave Winfield. Long way to the bigs from Glendora HS. Good luck! LMAO
Has zero approach on an off-speed pitch.

Bonita,
Unlike Bonita Diamond Bar has a whole new set of gamers. Diamond Bar's new head coach plays tournaments agressivly not like "Gonzo" in the years past, he used tourny play for players who didn't get playing time during league.
Should be fun to watch. See you there!

bonita is the real deal jaramillo this is going to be a legendary season for the bearcats lookout. and the bearcats are looking forward to diamond bar in the northview tourny. like last year, they return the same players

Hey Fonzie,
Why would scouts go to see Bonita play against a team like Diamond Ranch? Diamond Ranch's pitching is like hitting practice, huge meatballs. A homerun off a DRANCH pitcher is like a homer off a little leaguer is means nothing. Diamond ranch must be embrassed those scores are beat downs. Good luck DRANCH it's going to be a LONG season.

Hey K.H. Wagner is a good little player but is certainly still a role player. Can't really compare his pony time to the others as he is a year behind the others...2 behind cody. He is good, needs to swing it a little better against varsity pitching. Outstanding defense.

No need to get mad or upset, you might as well listen to the message and learn from it, thats better than being closed-minded. Would you rather listen and be right or not listen and be wrong? The whole thing is rather comical if you ask me.

That was a whuppin the cats put on dr. Probably getting even for basketball. The field was filled with scouts and they had to be wondering why they came. Plowman hit a 400 ft bomb that stopped traffic on the 60. good luck on Friday against charter oak. This should be bonitas year to win league and yes they deserve to be #1.

Bobby who?
Hey Real Fan wasn't his review pretty accurate? Why are the Damien bloggers so darn sensitive? You guys are the worst. Now that the blog has been revamped you pull a stunt like that. Kind of enjoyed his take. Act like a Christian next time. He hurt no one's feelings with his comments. Maybe you're the one that needs to look in the mirror.

D.B. Junior Dad, The Diamond Bar defense I saw against Glendora looked great. Why such a big shift in play defensivly against Ayala?

steve i dont see bonita game against d.r. today at d.r field, did you guys mail this game in.chalk one up,for us.my sons plyed in glendoras pony league with all the glendora kids, gage, and winterburn, will be on top soon. little nick gets some playing time and he will lead that team in hitting hands down...fast makes contact and knows how to play the game the right way..nick wagner am talking about...he lead all of these guys in hitting the last couple of years in pony..except cody i think won the batting title.the higher you go up the ladder the more they have scounting charts..so guys work on your weakness.becme a full baseball player. bj gonzo is the next dave winfield..keep your hands back the future is your .

Was at the Damien-Glendora game yesterday. I heard something that really got my attention. Glendora has 4 Division 1 committed players. Only 1 of them is a senior (Regis-UCLA). I can't remember hearing about so many kids committing so early (before finishing their junior year's season). Is this the new way business is done at theh D1 level? The other guys I heard about are:
BJ Gonzalez-sophomore-USD
Smigelski-junior-LMU
Plutko-junior-UCLA
Is this new way of doing things better for the kids? the school? Not sure.

Brahma people,
Hey buddy don't hate my friend! Urban pitched against Long Beach Wilson and El Toro I would love to see what any of the SGV pitchers era's would be after that! Big boy play not Cantwell, Pomona, Diamond Ranch, Ganesha, all those WEAK teams that play in the valley. Urban is a great kid, his team mates speak highly of him.Don't try and take away is earned success. On another note Kevin Cho from Ayala is a heck of a player.
Posted by: Diamond Bar Fan | March 25, 2009 10:51 AM
Bishop Amat continues to get great production out of their number 9 spot. Josh Genzuk is hitting 500 and leads the team in sac bunts. Keep up the great work.
Posted by: SGV BBALL | March 25, 2009 9:52 AM
Urban was fantasic yesterday, he continued to get stronger and stronger the longer he pitched. He pitched a complete 9 innings and he never tired.
His diving catches from the mound and his pick off's at 1st were impressive as well. Kevin Cho from Ayala is a stud no doubt about it, he is a crafty lefty that's for sure. Diamond Bar's defense needs to shape up or this can be their down fall. Glendora's game DBAR's defense was outstanding! Against Ayala errors, errors, and more errors. Thank goodness it didn't cost DBAR the game.

Jake Urbans stats before yesterdays game:
ERA 7.00 IP 10 BF 61 ER 10 hits 20 2B 2
That is almost giving up 3 hits an inning. I imagine yesterdays game will help but his stats but so far is not too stellar. You D-Bar people act like you have never won a game before.

Here is the present coaches poll for D2 i saw on baseball resource.
1. Palos Verde
2. El Toro
3. Norte Dame
4. Yucaipa
5. Chino
6. Arcadia
7. Upland
8. Crespi
9. Alemany
10. Loara
8 other teams were mentioned and the only other sierra league team that made the list was Glendora. On friday Yucaipa and Chino play in the Chino tournament final. Yucaipa has the advantage as they are playing no other games this week and travel out of state to a Memphis next week along with a stop in San Diego. The T-birds could use ace Frankie Martin(CSF) or Jose Cota. Chino will have played 2 sierra games this week.
Posted by: socal baseball fan | March 25, 2009 7:11 AM
I would agree that Layton is the best hitter in Glendora's lineup. Their lineup will be much more formidable once Regis starts hitting like he should be. They have a new "ace" in Gonzales. Plutko, Cage, and Smigelski will have to battle it out for the remaining innings.
Posted by: spectator | March 24, 2009 11:49 PM
As a Diamond Bar fan I am not concerned with any local poll in any sport. The only important thing is the sierra league standings. Finish 1st and you may get a decent seed. Finish 3rd then you may be playing a wild card game and then get a 1st place team. There are a lot of great teams in D2 this year. Yucaipa,El Toro,Crespi,Palos Verdes,Arcadia,Norte Dame,Upland ect. I like this blog to get informtion about DB scores since I no longer live in Diamond Bar.

Damien is very overrated. Every pitcher today got HAMMERED...
Whoever said "best team in the valley" needs a serious lobatomy..
Very few sticks in Damien's line up.
Wouldn't agree # 10 from Glendora is a stud. He continues to look like a fool on off-speed and runs real slow...
Best hitter on G-town is Layton hands down...

Glendora played very well defensively and got a great effort on the mound from Gonzalez. Amerheim from Damien was missing and did not look as comfortable on the mound as I saw him all of last year look so good. Dont know if Gross has been a good influence at all with this kid. Then hes pulled and a soph #15 is put in and got shelled before finally two very good arms finished in Guellen and Garcia. These two kids have got to get extended on the mound and play a role if damien is to make the playoffs. Whitehouse is #1 but then what? Anyways bats were absent for damien but I give a lot of credit to the Gonzalez kid for that. One thing I came away disappointed in was the damien approach and their dugout, which lacked enthusiasm and intensity. "too cool for school" just got your but whipped by the tartans 8-1. Ona side note, the BJ Gonzalez kid looks much more comfortable than I saw him last year. Also the Smigelski kid hit a nice shot and has a cannon in left fielf for an arm. @nd and 3rd made nice plays as well for the Tartans.

DB Soph Dad,
As i said before Steve and Fred were never BIG fans of Diamond Bar to begin with, so it really is better to let it go.Glendora and Damien would literally have to drop off the face of the earth before we would ever move ahead of them in any SGV rankings! Punto!!
Posted by: patrick | March 24, 2009 8:39 PM
Hey uh "letting it go",
Looks like the Brahmas are taking people out one game at a time, those kids are just mowing people down, and we love it. Damiens next, just one game at a time.

Once again another great post from a Brahma fan. Let is go already. If it bothers so much why do you keep coming back to ready this. Let your players play speak for themselves. I do believe there is no award, league or CIF title that goes with the rankings so why worry about it. If you win the league then you can spout off all you want but in the mean time let it go.
Posted by: let it go Brahmas | March 24, 2009 7:38 PM
Had the opportunity to watch the Damien-Glendora game today. Damien has no bats. Michael Gonzales pitched a good game for Glendora. BJ Gonzalez hit a rocket up the middle that almost took Amrhein's head off! That kid is a physical specimen. I had heard that Glendora hasn't been looking that good lately but they were plenty good today.

I needed that laugh today though, THANKS!Lets see here, DBHS beats LB Wilson, and Glendora, yet you have them at #8. You have no consistency, you have no clue, and thats why the Trib doesn't waste time or space with but a few inches in the prep section of the daily fish wrap. They realize the writers are in over thier heads. Thank god we have a way to speak our minds/give you the straight scoop, by posting here on "Arams" blog!
