BHoops: Mater Dei 88, Chino Hills 55

| | Comments (22) |

What do you think of the first-round game in the Division I boys state playoffs, Chino Hills (25-7) at Mater Dei (30-1), 7 p.m., on Monday Night. Yes, I'm on the Chino Hills bandwagon, this is an exciting game for Sierra League fans to keeps tabs on. Don Grant is a great for the Huskies, when I started in Pasadena he was the coach of Muir, and had some darned good teams there too. Muir hasn't been the same since he left. And they're getting the Monarchs at the right time, just after a devastating loss in the championship, hopefully the Huskies rain 3's all night long.
Answer: So, much for that

socalhoops fan-Tournaments start Dec 1st-before vacations. and all 2400+ teams (600 schools, boys & girls, Fr/JV/V) play them - not just 8-16 successful ones (cut in half every game) not nearly the same.

Brandon said:

JC- you are crazy if you think they have a chance to beat Mater Dei, all they have is Derek Brown and Greg Giron- Gary Franklin and Tyler Lamb are both way better than them, Giron is undersized and will go into the twins 6'10 David and Travis Wear. Mater Dei is pissed and will smash Chino Hills by 30, they will even sit their starters so they are fresh for fairfax on tuesday and westchester or etiwanda on thursday. Go to the game and see that great facility, its nice than most college gyms, but chino hills will get smashed

socalhoops fan said:

in dec they may be on vacation or the tournament is close to home. now you may have to travel to Fresno, san diego, bakerfield. this is different than playing during vacation time when you have no school.

Mater Dei's gym is nicer than Loyola Marymount's and Pepperdines in many ways. Wait until you see the video boards.

Tournament Time said:

socal hoops fan -That's a bit hypocritical. All December these kids play in Tournaments when all the teams in the tournament they play 4 or 5 games in 6 days. At least here only the winners move on. As to the number of teams the 8 ss teams is %wise still probably less than other Sections get-because the SS is so large.

socal hoops fan said:

To many teams were invited to the D1 playoffs. The cifss state office should remember these are student-athletes. Teams that made the cifss semi-finals and lost should not have been invited. Possibly playing games on monday-tuesday-thur during the week not good for the student.

What is Chino Hills doing in the SGV blog. You haven't covered any of the Chino schools all year. Not even during the football playoffs. Does this mean you actually read the comments? I wrote a few weeks ago that you should cover the entire Sierra league, not just DBar, Glendor, and Damien. I hope this is permanent and not just front running...

sorry about that fred? said:

So the game is at Mater Dei? Is that what "we're" saying? So then if I go to Mater Dei, that's where the game will be? Right? Now will it be at the new or old gym. I know where the old gym is at but where is the new gym?

socal hoops fan said:

Chino Hills will lose by 15 playing on the road at MDHS. The monarchs have to much height for the huskies and Lamb will neutralize Brown. Teams that beat MD are athletic like Westchester,Dominguez,MLK and McClymonds.

JC said:

I actually think they may have chance to beat them. The sectional lost was pretty devasting to MD. I read in the OC today that McKnight is not even sure his team can recover to focus on state. Interesting comments!

Good Luck Chino Hills
