In a tribune article about Nogales HS basketball ex coach Bob Withers stated Shomario Richards was the best player to ever play at the school? Although he was in the top 10 in my opinion.I would take-Cecil Fielder-Pete Williams--Randy Downs-Rodney Dixon-John Nichols-John Bragg-Bill Martin-Troy Reagons-Steve Henderson-Raymond and Angel Rosado either before him or right there.Evidence? Fielder 31pts.1981 LA sports arena outplayed Shawn Holiday-Jrue's dad.Randy Downs Avg.33pts.pg 1982 played for Colorado with Jay Humphries.Pete Williams led pac 10 two years in rebounding at 6'7" for Lute Olson at Arizona and two years in NBA.I coached with Mac Pace and assisted Bob Withers in 1992.Good coach-we won league that year but he never saw the 70's and 80's players.I saw Shomario and many more-Greg Coleman-Greg Elias-Brian Sherman-Matt Schuler-Richie Soto-Donald Gridiron.Just read the past article and wanted to set the record straighter. Thanks,Rick Farnsworth 32 years at Nogales Hs-Teacher and coach.
chris adams honorable mention?? hmmmm open your eyes please. danny silva over chris adams???? WOW! whatta JOKE
Fred I'm not sure who picked the All Area team but it doesn't make sense. Everyone will be pulling for their players and of course everyone thinks their favorite players are great but let's look at this thing clearly.
Chris Adams makes Div II All CIF 1st team and Honorable Mention here? Without Chris Damien never makes the playoffs or gets out of the first round.
Calvin Smith was the motor for an over achieving Glendora Basketball team that competed at a higher level than most and basically schooled Damien and held his own against Derek Brown is is incredible. Calvin not only ran the point, but rebounded, blocked shots and set the table for Rudssell time and again.
Serrano Miles was more important to Wilson than was CJ based on his rebounding and defensive play and he gets Honorable Mention?
The thing that all three have in common is that are easily their team's MVPs and those teams did major damage or played way over their heads and they were the reason.
And I did see all these players in the playoffs where it really shows their value, adaptability and will to compete against superior talent...all shined.
No disrespect to the other players, congrats to all.
Fred, will the player of the year and all league pictures be posted to purchase, both boys and girls?
