That south el monte program was a Joke before coach urias got there. He brought in good coaches and developed those player into what they were. Just look at the program before he got there. Escamilla took all the credit because he suddenly learned how to coach. But those of us inside the program know who really pulls the strings. And hernandez is the same as escamilla so expect them to be underachieving once again. Oh, who in the hell said aguilar was a good coach because they know nothing about football. Good guy maybe, Good coach NEVER.

To Eagle Fan and Quitting,

If you promote or encourage kids to quit and not play football you are promoting hypocracy. These kids quit and they can be labled just like Hernandez is being labled. For once I agree with mr.man and agree that these kids should stay and play. Life has adversaties and you can't quit every time a difficult situation arises. These kids need to give coach Hernandez a chance. They probably have friends who have played for Hernandez when he was at Rosemead who can tell them what kind of coach he was like. Next, they need to meet with coach Hernandez and see what kind of a person he really is instead of getting their info from people in here who have a obvious agenda.

your advice is on the money. If a senior, suit up, go out and kick ass best you can, regardless of what is happening around you.
at some point, parents and supporters have got to suck it up and understand the Admin has made a decision and the truth, nasty or not - now lies before them.
That said, nothing sucks more than busting ass for 3 years, and suddenly finding yourself in the midst of a losing or cellar-type season, or the infamous "rebuild" year.
In some cases the first year guy is the "right guy" (Maddox at Monrovia)...if so, you will see some hints of this by passing league time and recognize it. On the other hand, if it starts crumbling or never forms at all...that you can often see much earlier.

Actually, Dr. Phil a lot was going on at LP from 1998-2002. 5 straight playoff appearances and 3 league titles to be exact. He did not make LP. But the poor decisions of the Administration the last 10 years have unmade anything the football program was trying to do. I do not think any coaches were really to blame. The situation was bigger than that. But please do not think that 2007 was the brightest moment in LP football in the last 10 years.

Are you kidding me hernandez doesnt even have the GRAPES to stand up and keep those LP kids in check. and his 10-21 record shows he wont win anywhere unless you playing bassett workman or any of those week teams

General. dont you mean if there is talent Hernandez Might won games and if there is NO talent Hernandez will made an excuse of house they are undisciplined and QUIT again. If ANY team has talent they should win its high school football. In Hernandez's case he will not win not against Arroyo, Rosemead and now El Monte say bye bye to the playoffs for a while

ATTACKING a man who is on his way to a new Job . I mean come on now , give the man a chance . DO WE REALLY know the exact details on what went down @ LP. ray is a SOLID GUY & MADE LP ! I know a lot of SEM fans and players don't want Hernandez. At this point there is nothing you guys can do. The principal selected him and if the board approves him, then it is a done deal.

All I can say is this: don't let him or anyone else take away your senior year of high school football. Enjoy this time with your teammates because you might not get this opportunity again after high school. For the parents, go out and support the kids and the school you love so much. Again..........DO NOT QUIT! You will regret it if you do. In addition, you will be just like the person you don't want. Don't quit on your teammates and school if you really care about either of them.

Hopefully Hernandez has changed in the last few months. It was his first HC job, so growing pains do happen. LP would be a jacked up job for any HC (no matter how good of a coach they are). At least give the man a chance and see what he does. If his behavior from LP continues then you have a legit gripe and then the principal has to make a change.

Mr. man, I know there are players that are doing what Eagle Alum is saying and planning on quitting. IT IS VERY TRUE. If you dont think quitting or having a walkout is the right thing to do what do you think we should do? I do not feel like sacrificing my last year of football so my principal and hire his friend. Mr. Hernandez doesnt even look like a coach and has no respect from any of our players. I think that this is way messed up that we have to play for a guy that quit on his players then he does not want us to quit on him. will do not want to quit. we just do not want him! you all saw what escamilla did to hernandez in the HOF game last year. its embarrassing to be coached by a guy like this and even be taught by a guy like this at our school. To All SEM fans,

Even though you might not like the choice of Hernandez as HC, you need to stop these kids from quitting the team (if that is even true). I say this for the following 2 reasons:

1. Your allowing the kids to set a bad example, which will haunt them later in life. Change (good or bad) is part of life. Do you want these kids to start thinking that every time they don't like a change at home, work, church, etc, they can just walk away from it? In life you can't just walk away from your problems. You have to face them and deal with them.

2. These kids only get 1 shot to play high football. Many of those kids will never play football again after high school. They need to enjoy the experience because it is a feeling and a time that they will never relive again. Instead of playing for the coach, they should be playing for the love of the game and the love of SEM.

I dont understand what Zuniga was thinking hiring Hernandez. People know he is a freind of his and it looks like such a shady move when there were much better qualified applicants. I can tell you this, no one is happy about this at SEM. Parents are very upset that a person who quits on kids was hired at south. Not to mention the fact that people say as a head coach he has been disrespectful, and borderline abusive with players. There are good kids at SEM. Good kids that deserve better. There might not even be a team to coach next year. From what I hear, the team dosent want to play for Hernandez and is planning something to send a message that they will not play for him. As an Alum who agrees with the parents and with the kids I'm not sure what can be done now to send this guy packing. If anyone has any info on that post it. Maybe we can start a movement to get rid of Hernandez. All I know is that parents are not supporting Hernandez, or Zunigas decision to hire him, and the players have made up there mind that they will not play for him. If something isnt done soon, things could get ugly at South El Monte.

Whoa just found out that SEM pick Mr. Hernandez! all I can say is. Whoa never thought a coach who quits on his team right before a game would get another shot only months later from friends after so many qualified people apply. Just Sad to see what becomes of our HS athletics. Shame on you Principal Zuniga and Shame on you EMUHSD Board for approving this!

The new LP HC is Brandon Rohrer... Math teacher at LP and former assistant at Glendora and Centennial in Corona. He has a plan for improvement and he is dedicated to the kids and to the program.

Very good post .Here's hoping for a safe return for your son. I am sure there are more examples of fine young men and women that come out of La Puente high but it is unfortunate that people tend to focus on the bad ones. Good luck to you and your program and hopefully you get a coach commited to the betterment of the players and the program.

LPHS bloggers it’s time to let it go! A few of you have turned this blog into a pi**ing contest and you're beginning to look rediculis! Some of you can sit there and blame Hernandez all day for the problems at LP but the truth of the matter is, there is plenty of blame to go around…but what will that accomplish? I’ve been around the school since the mid 70’s. I graduated form LP in 1977 (yeh..I’m old). I’ve coached at the school, I’ve been around the program for many years and “Lord willing” I’ll be around for many more. My son played for Coach Ward (2002 league champs), coach Koffler and Coach Mcmillon so as a parent I can say, my son and I lived through the ups and downs of the football program but life goes on. My son used to live for sports now he’s a Marine fighting in Iraq and preparing to redeploy to Afghanistan later on this year. High school sports are the last thing on his mind right now.

I’ve been the Warrior Football PA announcer for the past 9 seasons and I know what transpires at the school but I’m not going to air it out publicly. The point I’m trying to make is…It’s time for everyone to move on. We’ll be announcing the new head coach at LP in a few days and it’s time to focus on the future. Everyone who cares about the program needs to put all of their energy and support towards bettering the program and our kids. Let’s wish the graduating seniors at LP and coach Hernandez our best and move on.

Where the hell were you when WE were feeding these boys on double day practices, getting them water because the water from the tap at the school was yellow, giving the boys rides for the passing league games and giving them dinners before the games? You sound just like Espinosa..Just blaming the seniors.. When the adults in charge have a part in it too. You can't tell me that all that happened wasn't personal. I remember the story, but I see urban legend written all over this new version.

The true story was this: 2 girls went to LP park, went into a restroom, and were gang raped. They knew 1 of the guys and he was the one who set them up. I think all of the boys got caught and went to jail. This happened about 3 to 4 years ago.

LP like any community has it's bad apples. Don't judge an entire book by it's cover.

As for Hernandez, I have heard the same stuff about him, but he was allowed to stay on for 3 years. Heck, he would have still been coaching there if he hadn't got into it with Smalley.

As for Espinosa..........he is a snake, an a-hole, and a horrible AD! Everything that comes out that man's mouth is a out right lie! Look at the HC football coaches he supported (as AD and not as AD). The 2 coaches that he supported and liked (Koffler and Hernandez) ended up screwing the LP kids over in the end. He couldn't stand Mcmillon and he tolerated Ward (even though he wasn't AD yet). The last 2 coaches actually cared about the LP kids. He went to lunch with Koffler and Hernandez all the time, but wouldn't give Ward or Mcmillon the time of day.

Hopefully the new guy stays for a while and does what is right for those kids.

My son was on that 2007 league champs team and he was one of the starters of that team. At the beginning of the 2008 season when all the players were being recognized by the coaches for the new season on the SGV Tribune coach Hernandez conveniently left my son and a couple of other boys off of the roster for returning senior players. With that was a disappointment for them. But before that, during spring practice my son with a couple other players were already clashing with coach. It wasn't until my son had an outburst with the coach that we were told of all the bad vibes between them. I automatically assumed that my kid was just having an attitude problem and I scolded him and was mad at him for being disrepectful. I went to administration and it was swept under the rug.In the summer when my son went on a camping trip with 2 other players they were punished with 1000yard bear crawls on the hot synthetic field when they went back to practice. After they were done with their punishment all three had half dollar sized wounds on their palms. This affected about two weeks of practice for them and coach told them that they needed to suck it up with their open wounds. After a while other players came to us and were telling us that it was a personal issue between my son and the coach and the kids couldn't understand what the problem was. The boys weren't having fun anymore. That there was too much tension with the team. These are only a few examples of what was going on at Hernandez's practices.

After all the chaos at LaPuente and after all the kids have to grow up with Hernandez get hired there puts down the kids tries to kick kids off the team and QUITS ON THEM?!?! Now we have the pleasure of dealing with this guy at our school?

here's a story Fred will verify as true. I young man and two teenage girls were walking down teh street to La L Puente High School a couple of years ago. They stopped and got a ride from two guys who made it sem like they knew them. Every one of teh three thought the other kew them the way they were talking to them. Long story short...they rapped and killed one of the girls after "spooming out teh eye of the toung man, while he was alive! They took them up to Azusa Canyon I believe and dumped the young man's body as and spend off with one girl and left one for dead. Teh "left for dead" girl started running and long story short either was given a ride and dumped out in La Punete or a cop nearby ...don't remember the details. They thought she was lying or iy was just crazy to believe. Anyway they found the eye near where she said the was raped...and things strated to match up..The car they were in was stolen...teh man who's car it was...was found dead...seems he was washing his car at of punete and Francisquito I believ at 9am ...in the morning!!!! Broad day light!!!!!! and all this took place within 6 hours....all before teh sun went down.

This could happen anywher i suppose but it didn't and there are countless stories like this in that little city we're discussing.

You really need to make something out of yourself my friend, you really do.

Do you make it a point of following me everywhere I go. I lived and worked and have friends in La Puente. My church is in La Puente, I baptized my kids there, have I coached kids in La Puente. I once had a practice at St. Loius of France and had cholos walk thru our practice and steal our basketball and dare kids to tell me. I made a deal with them to give them new basketballs and put up nets on all the courts to keep the peace. I've had at least four "kids" grow up in that neighborhood and get shot and killed. I've lost kids to gangs and seen families get destroyed. I've lived around that neighborhood for over 30 years you dumbsh*t. There are parts of La Punete I wouldn't drive thru at night. I have family and friends from Basset Grande who were decent kids growing up. My kids were routinely on lock down when Bassett High School had issues, we've had teachers at SLF have to lock their doors when gang bangers were running the halls from police thru our campus out of Bassett HS. The day of my engagement party almost 30 years ago a group from Bassett and N. Whittier threw blows in front of my imlaws house after they were drivng by and wanted in. The stabbing in the face of the man at the 7Eleven was random and on Hacienda and Stimson more or less I didn't check the streets. Less than 3 months ago! go to Boca Del Rio on Azusa and see if you see the couple that shoot up on the table there. I have. Go near Gemini street across than teh Old Industry Hills Golf Course and walk that at night. Sure you will.

Why in the world do you insist on making an punk out of yourself and start things that aren't there. You knew nothing about the other issue and now even less about this one. The Mayor of La Puente I know personally after serving on School Boards together. Nothing I said is wrong. Deal with it.

My point is why dress "kids" like cholos when they are the scum and an embarrassment to Latino people everywhere. What good have they ever done...but make moms cry? Where is Slaughter Alley? Puente Ave to Azusa to Fransicquito to Valley...that's what cops call that area. I've been a Capatin of Neighborhood Watch programs because of filth taht won't let decent people live without fear.

So how you can be offended when everything I said is true and the positive I spoke of was also true. It starts at home which apparently your worthless mother and father if you knew him didn't teach you.

You one of dozens that start crap for no reason other than you have a worthless low acheiving life and you hate anyone who has more or has worked for more. That's the problem dips*it ...maybe your parents busted their butts to come to this country and them all you do with that opportunity is embarrass a whole race of hard working God loving people.

With any coach you have to take the good with the bad, because none are perfect; even those that are consistently successful! People coach high school football because they are passionate about the game and more importantly enjoy the influence they have on young men! Just to let you know...Hernandez doesn't practice after 4pm. He doesn't have night practices. He doesn't do film on Satuday mornings after a game. He does film during the players lunch time on Mondays, and if you're late because the lunch line was too long...oh well too bad because you're not starting in the next game. This is the kind of coach LP has been releived of. Also he has favorites on the team, and those are the ones he has to do his dirty work. Like to tell the kids they are not starting or playing or just plain kicked off the team. Like I said lack of integrity for his job as a coach. Thanks for the memories coach!

So basically what you are trying to say that if you are from La Puente you are a cholo or hoochie no matter what because of some cycle that is LP you speak of in your post. In my encounters I run into more people the likes of LP Alum then people you speak of and where exactly did you grow up where you were around that lifestyle.

Fred took off my post this morning on my feelings on why Hernandez keeps getting second chances because he knows people. Coach Clark Coach Jimenez and Coach White would all have been a better choice for SEM. But Hernandez what the best Pick for the other teams in the league. Thank you SEM! guess you don't like making the playoffs anymore..

Even if you send your kid to the most ghetto-fied school in the SGV....The student has to make the best of the education, but when teachers at the school have the mentality that all the kids are BAD and are useless.....The teacher is the one thats useless. And that goes for the coaches too! Being a coach is not just for the fame of winning but taking pride in the fact that you helped a player become a better team player and citizen. I'm sorry but Hernandez did not show those kids anything but jealousy, spitefulness and selfishness. He got the players to blame and bicker amongst themselves and that was the downfall of the team. The lack of leadership on his part really destroyed any chance of the team having an awesome season. I don't know if this is the kind of coach that SEMHS want for their football team.

If you want "partnership" to build kids of character and want a "partnership" of mentorship then why in the world do you send kids to school that look like Low Rider magazine models. Why do you continue the loyalty of the gang mentality and send kids to school that look like they just got out of the joint. There are many hard working families in la Punete and many hard working recent immigrants trying to get ahead but seriously folks the best way to build "partnership" is to send the school "respectful, hard working, well behaved kids"...that's where it all starts and stops and the rubber hits the road. Start at Home.

first off Montviewer, using the types of words you chose on your blog to support Hernandez pretty much sums up the type of supporters Hernandez and his prior staff had.It was always the players fault.These type of tactics do not motivate people and before you start quoting issues about what happened before that homecoming game make sure you have your facts straight. A lot of one sided stories out there and remember that not all facts can be given out due to privacy issues. When an adminsitrator says no comment or we are going in a different direction take that as a red flag that something other than what you have heard is involved. SEM bloggers hopefully you have parents that care about the whole picture when it comes to your student athletes and not just about winning.Make sure your kids are not penalized and lose playing time because they need extra academic help that is only offered during practice times. Make sure you have time and good medical insurance because if your player misses practice due to illness he will need to provide a doctors note or else he loses playing time.Sorry but not all illneeses warrant a tripto the doctor.Now if this was a player habitually missing practices then yes I can see this as a valid request but this was not the case. Pray you do not have a funeral to attend during football season or your son loses playing time. Hopefully your parents do not like to meet your coaches and be introduced because Hernandez doesnt seem to have time to hold a general parent meeting to set the expectations to parents/players so that everyone is on the same page. If the players are acting up or misbehaving hopefully Hernandez will step up and care about why they might be behaving this way. Why the change in player behavior coach? To see how these kids were treated was very disappointing.We need mentors for our kids. We need coaches that care about their overall character. We need a coach that will partner with parents and administration to make a successful program not one that resigns and walks away from the kids. If it was the parents that made all the rukus why did he turn on the kids? After all was said and done why did he and the AD continue to make some of these kids feel like they were nothing. No kid deserves to feel this way. As for his professionalism well that pretty much speaks for itself and depends on how what you consider a professional.A Professional in the industry of teaching does not label children and take away their self esteem.But again maybe some lessons have been learned and more consideration will be given for SEM players than was for LP players. And SGV Football Fan yes Karma can come back and bite you in the butt so for this reason I believe in treating people the way you want to be treated especially for young kids that are so easily influenced and need positive influences.LPHS has an administration that believes in whats best for their students/staff/parents
And for those at LP that dont go to meetings,answer their cell phones while in meetings,walk out of meetings...you call yourself professional adults? WOW!....Also it would be interesting to see what that contract stated wouldn't it to see what the coaches really walked away from? Decisions are made and the best thing to do for all parties is to move forward and learn from past mistakes. Oh and those young baseball coaches at LP...they had a parent meeting and team/coach/parent BBQ saturday after the game..what a concept! Actual positive communication! Something the football program didnt have...Be strong SEM

The only thing that didnt go to Hernandes's head after he won league was his HAIR. Hernandes would walk around thinking he was the best coach in the valley when he wasnt even the best coach on his own staff. He has now been given 2 jobs because he knows people and not because he deserves it

Hernandez started out to be a coach that wanted to make change for LP. Somewhere along the way he lost his objective. Winning that Montview League Title seemed to have gone to his head or something because after a while it was all about him and not the team. He let the boys run amuck. He would leave the boys alone at the school without supervision, to go have lunch with Espinosa. You know he resigned because he didn't want to be responsible for the team. He refused to sign the contract that the school made up so someone would be liable if something happened during football class or practice....if thats even what you want to call practice. Running 40s all practice doesn't teach the kids any kind of football...maybe for track. Not to mention, his bad mouthing players to teachers and other coaches at the school only shows how immature he really is. The only reason he got the job at LP is because he is friends with the AD...Espinosa. As for the other coaches only one coach taught those kids anything and that was not Hernandez or Graban....Do the math. As for SEM, I can't beleive that you guys passed up Jimenez (GREAT COACH)for a coach(hernandez) that needs to get a job by knowing someone that does the hiring!!!!!!

I don't know Coach Hernandez but not hiring Coach Jimenez will haunt SEMHS. IMO, Coach Escamilla was always an underachiever. It wasn't until Coach Urias arrived that the program took off. They've always had talent before that but never got over the hump. IMO, Coach Jimenez would've made SEMHS the premier team in MVL and now in Division 10, they would've competed ever year for a CIF Title. SEM/EM kids deserve better!

mrman 1..Ray kind of blew that one. It's not necessary to know the situation any more than we do. He suits them up, plays the game after letting them take the field in full uniform and at most puts them in the for kick off and send them to the bench.

Case closed. I did a similar thing once. Principal confronted me after putting up a "travel list" for an after season tournament. The Principal with parents in tow asked me politely and maybe not so politely to put them back on the team. I explained my criteria for the travel squad, made it clear at midseason that it was an honor to travel and that a list would be made "after" the season was over.

The season is guaranteed but the tournament is a "reward". Didn't phase them. Finally I said, 'if they play you need to get a new coach". The tournament was the next day. Case clased. They didn't play and we played our best games of the season and walked away with the Tournament MVP.

But that's elementary school BS. This is HIGH SCHOOL and these are JOBS and Ray is a PROFESSIONAL and HIGFH SChOLL is different.

The size and scope of his actions were larger and more profound. IT WAS A MISTAKE IN MY BOOK.

What is the lesson learned here. Conscientious Objector? La Punete lacks discipline and leadership from the City Council and the Mayo, r to the Cholos Families from grandma to newborn, to the system that turns a blind eye on everything that's wrong with the city.

Ray failed those boys. Didn't Cruthfield do something similar and he's gone as well.

High school, especially heavily populated Latino and Black schools need to kow that QUITTING IS UNACCEPTABLE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The "drop out" rates in these schools, and similar schools is a national disgarce, and some how and in some way Ray Hernandez added to that ever increasing cop out.

What's done is done but I would never hire a coach who quit on his team before a game or in midseason. Sahme on Ray and teh powers that lead to that stupidity....typical macho BS from the Latino Community.

Like the gang turf wars that destroy "innocent bystanders" ...no one wins when everyone loses something they love for no reason other than ..."IT'S ON!!!".

C'mon, this was the first year that they were in the playoffs since the 90's? How many times did El Monte beat Rosemead when Hernandez was the DC there?

There is no way in HELL that any El Monte alum or fans should be in here bashing SEM for hiring coach Hernandez. Fix your own house first!!

Not one of you that has accused coach Hernandez of quiting on his team has provided one piece of evidence to support what you are saying. Who's to say that Hernandez didn't get suspended for the last games of the season because he didn't bow down to the wishes of the principal.

I agree, give Hernandez a chance. He is still a good coach. It might not be pretty that first year, but eventually it should be a successful for him and the SEM kids. Him playing Koffler should be a classic.

As for his situation at LP, he did get the shaft when it came to those players. However, as I have stated many times before, I would not have quit. I would have forced Smalley to fire me. If she fires him, she looks like an idiot, and he comes out smelling like roses.

The situation at LP has been and will be a mess until they get a Principal who has some common sense and a back bone. How can you lead a school, or pick a football coach, when your disrespected at your own staff meetings (people talking, people not showing up, cell phones going off, people walking out.......all incidents that have happened while she has been Principal). Those young coaches might do well, but they will use LP as a stepping stone and be out of there in less than 3 years.

Mr. Hernandez is a good coach. Maybe not the best coach if we look at his record, but he is the best choice for SEM.He coached with Mr. Koffler at RHS. In 04-05 the Mead beat SEM. In 05-06 the MEAD beat SEM. Both games came down to the wire and both were won because of the great defense. Coach Hernandez was the defensive coordinator. In 05-06 his defense only allowed around 8pts a game.He also coached with Mr. Koffler previous years. Won MVL league titles in 2001 where they made a sem final appearance.In 2005 went 10-1 were they beat the best team in SEM HISTORY! Anyone and everyone from SEM know that that team in 05-06 was one of the best ever at SEM, from their QB which now plays at a D1 school to the last guy on the bench. Also he beat one of the good Duarte teams that was suppose to fly by and win league that year. They beat Duarte and won another league title. MR. Hernandez is a graduate from UCLA is married and is a great professor.If it is for the kids that people care for then he is the best choice a professor/COACH. He did not quit on the team in LP, the staus quo at the time was a difficult one. His last year at LP did not count. When you are a Head Coach, you have the final word! It was not the case at LP, the Principal did. How can you coach when your word is not the final one ( at least on the football field). Give him a chance. He is a well educated man and can at least guide these young boys into college. It will be interesting to see the MEAD battle SEM. Mr. Hernandez might give Mr. Koffler a hard time.

I think they will bring in some new ideas and ways of Teaching these Lp kids. i honestly think they will be succesfull at LP.

ok guys u dont know jack sh** of what really happened at Lp. Hernandez was forced to resign becuz he wanted 3 players cut becuz they cuzzed him out as well as the fellow coaches right before a game cuz they wanted to play on homecoming, he benched them cuzz they missed a few practices that week. id bench them too if i was in his position. those players parents went to the board and complained especially the president of the football booster who i think is a jack*** Bit**, it was keep them on the team or else from the administration. And by the way lp had a bad season cuz there were a few inelgible players and there star running back tore something in his knee from what his dad told me as well as another reciever tore something in his knee, and for the QB he was just terrible, he couldnt read the defense if it were a book. rios made him look good in the 2008 season when they won league. you guys just have to give Hernandez a chance. i mean come on he brings the rosemead style defense isnt that what you need. Yeah its true that Hernandez did not have a great stint at LP but you also have to realize that at times you go with what you have. I am sure that he had learned from his mistakes and will do great things at SEM. Remember all coaches have to struggle a bit before they find their true identity. To all you who are wishing the SP guy took over just think how good of a coach can be when he cant even get cleared to teach public school.

This guy has one good year and wins the Montview League title in 2007, then loses in the first round of the play-offs. The 2008 season falls apart, with his players and then the administration.

Dang, I see SEM fans are for real. I can't say anything. I understand the impossible situation he had at LP, but I wouldn't have quit with 2 games to go (especially 4 hours before a game). Hopefully he works out at SEM and has learned from experience at LP.

Oh yeah, most HC jobs in all sports are normally inside jobs. It's not what you know, but most of time who you know in high school athletics.

I wish Coahc Hernandez all the luck in the world. I know from experience that it is not easy to coach at LP. I understand that he quit because of problems with administration, but it should have probably been done at the end of the season. I hope he learned his lesson and that does happen again.

As an alum, this is very dissapointing. This guy is a proven loser and quiter. We dont need his type at South. There were much better candidates up for this job, but Ray was given the job because he is close friends with the SEM principal. AD wanted someone else. Hopefully, the board votes no! There are good kids at south who work hard and are dedicated and deserve a coach who would do the same. If Ray gets the job he needs to be booed out of South like he was at LP. The big baby will probably quit on his own and the job could go to one of the other applicants. If not Jimenez, give it to Clark from El Monte, White from Rosemead or Aguilar from Escamilla's staff, who i hear has never stopped working with the football team, keeping them together by providing leadership and organization, in the weight room and on the field, since last season ended! Should be a very interesting game for the Amat crowd this time around because, they will no doubt be highly represented in this game, assuming of course that the kids don’t run into any issue with their future colleges.

Also, if I may comment on the hiring of this coach. The only thing that I don’t like about this whole thing, was in the way it all ended up for him last year.

Never mind the reasons, he just quit before the season was over. That was a bad call on his part and honestly, it reflected greatly on his caricature or lack there of.

Now, I am sure that it may very well have been a tough call for him and his staff to make, but let us not forget that they bailed out on a buch of kids who looked up to them.

For what it’s worth, it has been my experience in life, that if someone does something to you once, it’s going to happen again.

Unfortunately, no matter how you look at it, this will always be hanging over the guys head. Other than that, if a school wants to take a chance on him, them it's on them I suppose.

I'm so upset that I have to pick one game over the other. BPark and MView both play at 11:30 a.m. at different places, I don't know what to do. Of course we will cover both and have photographers at both games, but I wish CIF would have put these games back to back at the same places for area fans. Why BPark and Salesian have to go all the way to Mission Viejo is beyond me. It makes more geographical sense to have put them at Warren high as well.

Being a HC is a bear no days and sometimes it's good to do the lower levels and remember why football is such a rewarding game.

Fred any chance Escamilla is interested or planning on coaching at Damien? It would be nice to have him in some capacity. My brother and friends coached for him and hold him in high regard. Maybe Damien can get some of SEM and Escamilla fans over to Damien. Coaching is in his blood, maybe a Varsity HCing job is too much for him and he needs a break but the lower levels at Damie are always fertile ground for a quality football mind.
