TONIGHT; Bonita knocks off Glendora, 8-4 to win title; Northview wins, Bishop Amat loses

Championship: Corey Hare hit a two run homer for Bonita in the first, giving the Bearcats a 3-1 lead.
...Glendora's Kyle Layton came right back with a two-run homer in the third to tie the score, 3-3. After another hit and pair of walks loaded the bases, Jacob Smigelsky scored on a wild pitch, putting the Tartans back in front, 4-3 in the third inning.
... With Bonita's Mier on third with two outs in the bottom half of the third, Evan Highley hit a hard grounder to third that was bobbled, reaching first on an error while Mier scored to tie it again, 4-4.
....Oh Nicooooo Calderaro, the pitcher for Bonita, went deep to center in the bottom of the fourth, giving the Cats a 5-4 lead. Then Jason Plowman followed with an even deeper homer to center in the fifth, pushing their lead to 6-4. They added two more runs in the fifth to lead comfortably 8-4.
Breaking News: In the second game, Northview bounces back and defeats Diamond Ranch, 14-6 for third place.
Breaking News: The early game is over and Ayala beats Bishop Amat, 2-1.
Question: Should the winner of tonight's game be the new No. 1 next week? I think so, but it's debatable, Northview, Bishop Amat, Damien, they're all right there. If Glendora wins it's automatic, but if Bonita prevails, then you have a lot of good one-loss arguments. I am at Henderson field and will provide scoring updates when I get a chance.

Fred,
Congrats to Bonita on playing a fine tournament and beating the host Glendora in the championship, but they go to #2, not #1. Northview was given the honor of being the preseason #1 for its previous work and the guys they have back. An odd tiebreaker only got Bonita in the championship game to begin with and Northview beat them in the tournament. If head to head tiebreaker was used, Northview would've been in the final and no argument from Bonita could've been made. Now, they benefit from the odd tiebreaker, lose to Northview head to head, but get ranked over them? These two teams have played great games last few years, but Northview had beaten them 5 or 6 times in a row now with this senior class dating back to their freshman years on varsity. How does that make sense? If Glendora wins outright, I can see the rationale with a 4-0 team etc. but with two 3-1 teams and one beat the other head to head with the aces on the hill, it's a no brainer. Damien gets the #4 nod and Glendora gets #3 nod.
The game was pretty good. Glendora ran itself out of an inning but Bonita kept putting the pressure on.
Nico calderaro is the real deal. Even though northview beat bonita I give the nod to bonita as they were missing a key player jeff gelalich and they have more depth in pitching. You will see the depth of northviews pitching when they play in the national classis.

I agree Bonita of la verne is legit. 2 outstanding pitchers Calderaro and Plowman , along with Gio Meir as 90 + closer.
They are the favorite for the Miramonte League.
About Calderaro, a senior who is as good as many that have already committed or even better. He has a 86- 88 fastball to go with a change and outstanding 12-6 curveball that the cif umps have a hard time calling, college umps will call it for stirkes even more. He is a pitcher and not a thrower.
D1 schools check him out before a D2 snatches him up like cal poly Pomona or ca st la.
Great young man and he has a no hitter to his credit last year.
Glendora Tny MVP Jason Plowman
Top Ten
1. NV - Did beat Bonita. Solid team with great defense and pitching will keep them close this year. Don’t see anyone in VVL beating them and should make run for another title. SD may have a slight chance but unlikely. BP looking good and Covina is really young...
2. Bonita - Won it all this weekend. Bats did some real damage. They played well after losing close one to NV and all with Jeff G out. This team will make some noise throughout the year.
3. Damien - Playing tough, but really only played one tough team. The big bats are gone and who steps up with the stick will be the Q mark. Pitching may keep this club close. League play with Chino, CH, and Ayala looks like trouble for most in this league.
4. Glendora - Played well against weaker opponents but not an experience and older team like Bonita. Pitching and situational hitting will be there challenge with limited bats in the line up. Very weak on off speed.
5. DR - Pitching will be big Q mark for them this year. Beat Amat but seems Amat BB is having trouble with local teams. NV pounded DR in the final game.
6. Amat - Not impressed with there performance in the Glendora Tourney. Pitching was exposed big time. Maybe moving up wasn't a good idea.
7. Nogales - Love John's approach to play OC teams. They will be tough and give San Antonio a run for it. Three shut-outs in first four games.. Not bad!
8. South Hills – Tough schedule so far! Bats need to come alive soon.
9. San Dimas – This team has potential and Leyland and Ponzo will have to have big years. Pitching will be a monster hurdle for this team. After Ponzo, who will get the job done against the tough teams? BP might just have something to say about #2 this year.
10. DB - Like the way this club is coming together. Probably one year away, but I like there chances as being the spoiler this year in Sierra. Playing in a good tourney and should help them in league. Pitching????
Knott is the MANNNNN!!!!! You boys in LaVerne better count your blessings before he leaves for college next year.
nv fan all that matters to bonita is the W in the championship games. no metter how it happened the better team won the whole thing
Amat will be fine this year. They finally got a good outing from their pitching staff against Ayala. There bats were no where to be found though. This team has a lot of youngsters and like Northview 2 years ago they will gel and put it all together to make a good playoff run.
amat no question is a very good program and obviously they were much more formidable last year with the ss and the 1b BUT to they have benefited from playing in d4, d5 and would not have won cif titles in d2 or d1. Nieto was nothing more than a grunt coach at usc. andy go get this, andy go get that, andy ground balls here, andy ground balls there. anybody who says anything differently just doesnt know. however, he does know what hes doing for hs baseball it's just hid demeanor that leaves much to be desired.
Where's Amat fans? I guess nothing to talk about. Getting beat by local teams. LOL
Little short man Andy, your time is coming...
Ken h - not real sure what you were trying to say but NV owns Bonita. Do you really want to over the last 4-5 they have played each other? Did you mean to imply Bonita would beat Northview 9 times out of 10? Maybe I misunderstood and my bad if so but I hope you didn't imply that. At the end of the game - it only matters who got the W.
HS Baseball
The only talk you hear about G-town arms is from g-town fans.
Every pitcher last night tried to blow fastballs. Did it work? Henley needs to bring in a pitching coach to teach kids how to pitch. Obviously, when they play a talented team like Bonita, its lights out. Every ball that Bonita hit last night except for one was hit on the SCREWS... Nobody was getting fooled.
damien #1? you have to have a quality win or two at least to move up to number 1. Damien lost to the only quality team it played. They should have won the other 3 games. So my vote goes to bonita, the team that actually won the tourney and had 2 quality wins. As for glendora they'll be ok. Everybody talks about their good arms but when are their good arms going to step up in a big game. They just might underachieve again this yr in league. And Im telling everyone right now the team to beat in the sierra is Ayala. Heard it here first. (and im not an ayala guy)
Local Youth,
I fully agree with you. Let's keep this blog about the kids.
Real Fan,
Once again you are right on point. Your comments are always keen and insightful. I agree, it is a shame and a sham to play varsity baseball on that field. Maybe field conditions/dimensions should factor into Fred's thoghts for this week's baseball poll. These varsity squads won't play any more games this season in such a crackerjack park.
Hello all,
How about this...blog with facts not personal agendas or vendettas? It would be much more classy, promote HS programs in the area, and allow kids to be kids.
So here is some FACTS from the GHS Tourney...good final game that saw BHS seniors, with experience, play better than GHS and their underclassmen who will be solid for a long time. Actually just what BHS went thru the past three years. Classy coaches on both sides, hustling players, fans who were respectful, a good crowd and a great story line of Coach Henley and his son, Ryan. This would be a good lesson for some of you who have lost sight of the mission of HS athletics. Get over yourself already...leave the "bad blogging" to others. You owe it to your family, friends and the players and coaches who sacrifice so much so you can have an opinion...good luck to you all...it will be a great HS baseball season in the SGV...
fren k.h. talk to you last night at the game, like others my writing here hasnt made it to the press,,but am right and all the real baseball people picks dont count bonita smoked thur this trouney.the lost to nv.2 pasted ball 267 ft opp. field dong,we will beat them 9out of 10 games every time.like i said before the ump keeps homer mouth shut we walk with the ringsthe end will always come one winner the rest loser time will tellTHE WAY I SEE IT IS THE WAY ITS IS WHO DID GLENDORA BEAT.DIDNT PLAY AMAT NO GAME WITH NV. 1#BONITA WINS TROUNY GIVE THEM THERE UP N.V #2 SPARTANS 3 GLENDORA 4 AMAT 5 THEN KEEP TO WHAT YOU DO BEST GUESSING ORMAYBE YOU SHOULD GET SOME INSIDE HELP FROM CUS DANNY LATER FRED ENJOY HAVING FUN
Are you kidding me, Glendora in the top ten? Glendora's pitching is average at best and they got pounded last night, not to mention NONE of there hitters know how to square up on off-speed.
And Fred.. the ball was miss played and dropped between both outfielders.. Glendora needs to find a new centerfielder. Has no idea how to run the outfield, let alone hit a curve ball..
Wait, the Glendora tournament was determined by the long ball in a PONY park? Wow...too bad. Good luck to all teams throughout the season.
It's a no-brainer, great job in this tournament Bonita - but NV beat them, albeit by 1 run or 7 runs, so Bonita and Glendora should move up a bit in the ranks and FOR SURE AMAT MOVES DOWN, but NV remains #1..Have to say I agree with an earlier post when FJR did not move Amat down after one loss YET says Glendora is #1 if they win this tourney. Does this make any sense?
Congrats to Bonita! Fred, now you have your hands full. What will be the impact of the Bball action over the last two days on the rankings? Here are my rankings, but only through number six, because after that, it realy is a toss up.
1.Damien -Lost to a great Yucaipa team. One loss
2. NV-Beat Bonita head to head. One loss.
3. BoHi-Won G Tourney, but lost to NV. One Loss
4. Glendora-Exposed!
5. Dbar-Young Talent
6. Amat-Exposed!
GO Damien!
Henley, will u ever win a big game?????
Great! Thanks Fred.
Yeah, look at the top of this thread, not in comments, but actually on the thread, it's 3-3
Hey Fred, Will you be at Glendora Tourney Championship game tonite? I'm hoping for live updates, as I can't make it myself. Should be a good game with the talent that Bonita brings to the game (ex. Meir and Plowman).
Go Tartans! Bring it home for the Sierra League.
Aztec, you're right, last year I had help with track, but I'll see what I can do. Just keep posting comments, for the most part Steve or I will get them up soon. But for now, I've got to sort out the trash.
Fred, I was wondering why my post weren't getting through and I apologize for hitting the post button four times.
For some reason I can no longer post any comments from work and have to wait until I get home.
Well Fred it's sad to see the blog is getting out of control and you have to settle down the KIDS.
Fred your doing the right thing by deleting COMMENTS that are deem unapproiate. My suggestion is if they want this type of HARDCORE blogging, is to go on an NFL blog, like RAIDERS.com and your an opposing fan. YOU'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS!!!
Fred, like I said before, I start my morning with my coffee and Freds sports blog! I enjoy reading the blog so you haters don't ruin a good thing!
Fred will there be any Track & Field threads? I attended a track meet at Citrs College invitational last week, and their was around ten high schools participating. Man it was awesome and couldn't I believe the speed of some of these High School students.
Keep up the good work Fred!

I know Mike, we'll see how this works for a while. Who knows, maybe I'll go back and forth, shutting comments off when I'm gone for long periods of time, letting them run when I'm around. I don't know, I'm considering everything.
Fred,
It's too bad it came to that. The blog was a great idea but the "Knuckleheads" have just ruin it and that's a shame.
Late!
Mike the Clone
Aztec, I don't sorry. TO EVERYONE, I have some knuckleheads who are making it their life to do nothing but constantly try to ruin every thread, and frankly they're just tiring, the levels they're going to is amazing. So, I'll release comments individually for a while. Heck, maybe this will work better, I don't know.
Hey Fred,
by the way do have yesterdays baseball scores from the Montview league schools?

Some interesting news related to football.
I just happened to come across an article written by the “Ventura Star,” that was dated for the 3rd of March.
In it, the article said that both Oaks Christian and St Bonaventure’s attempt to enter the Serra league for football in 2010, was not approved by the Catholic Athletic Association.
It seems that my pal Joey made a call to Cardinal Mahoney and told them to back off because he was completely dead set against it.
Of course, if you know even one thing about this blog, then you will understand why this happened.
You never mess with Joe.
So, naturally of course, they folded like a deck of cards.
Just kidding Joe :)
Anyway, the only way it can still happen is if the CIF overrules that decision. But not likely to happen anytime soon.
