Disappointment? Really? said:

Every school will go through its ups and downs. DR , and the other four schools you listed are no exception. They will also have their day in the winning circle again, and those who are winning right now will have their turn in the loser bracket as well. Its our attitudes when we lose that is concerning to me. Who gave any of us the right to brand these kids as disappointments because they cant do as good as they did last year? Its a new year with new kids. Since when does high school sports have to be treated as if they were professionals? What blows me away is most of the peanut gallery has never played the sport, or if they did they didn’t play it well… or they would be in the professional arena and not blogging about high school kids who had a tough season. What we as parents have to consider is the fact that these are our kids on the field. They are there to have fun, for the most part many of them will not play in collage and the few that play in collage will not play professionally. So all of us parents and critics that think our kids are our next meal ticket we need to back off. Why are we dragging them down by calling them a disappointment? I think we the parents who get caught up in all this and those of you that write these blogs are the disappointment.

Dear who is this guy,
I’m a parent of one of the players at DR, and this is my first time on this blog. I must say I’m shocked at the disrespect that I have read throughout this blog. Your comment in particular caught my attention. I’m amazed that you can hurl such disrespectful comments at an individual whom I’m sure you don’t even know. Then on top of your disrespect for him you then put down the boys that worked hard last year and made it all the way to CIF Finals. Your blog makes me think that you are a bitter parent of a player who was beat last year by DR. Their run to CIF was not a miracle it was the result of a team full of boys and a couching staff that worked hard. How can you sit back and take that away from them because you “feel” they didn’t deserve to be there. My question to you is , Who did deserve to be there then, you and your boys? Luck had nothing to do with it. DR had good players, and a couch that knew how to direct them to maximize their talent. Those kids last year played as a team because Mr. Verplancke taught them how to play as a team and they bought into it. Maybe this year the boys aren’t as willing to play as a team.
I agree with you its teamwork, and players (with talent) who play as a team will go further then those who act as individuals. When a team wins everyone praises the kids, but when a team is losing it’s the couches fault. Which is amazing to me that we would think that any of those couches are out there to deliberately loose. I guess we as parents want to blame others for our kids mistakes so the best escape goat is the couch. Mr. Verplancke is the same couch with the same heart for the boys as he was last year and the year before, maybe its just an off year with a group of kids that just don’t have the ability to make the plays. I for one am thankful that he is my son’s couch, and for anyone who thinks they can do a better job is full of himself or herself. I hear the parents’ complaints, and I see what the couches go through and it’s pathetic. Since when does high school sports have to be scrutinized as if they were professionals? We as parent should be thankful that anyone would give up there time to invest into our kids. How unthankful we have become as a society.

Verplunk-Kerplunk or what ever your name is,

What a dork you are! So 5 pm, Apr 2 huh? Is that about the same time your season will unofficially be over too? No miracle 3rd place finish that rides all the way to Chavez Ravine? I guess not huh? Players don't win championships, TEAMS win championships! When you figure that out, it'll probably be to late.

That has to be a Apri; Fool's joke..right?

I sincerely hope the anonymous posting shows up.

For anyone who wants to hide behind screen names and post blogs because they have nothing better to do, I would encourage you to have a check of manhood. Coaches can't make pitches for the boys, field the balls, or hit for them. To whoever wants to hide behind a screen name, practice will be over at 5pm on April 2 for anyone who wants to meet at DR to go facew to face.

Diamond Ranch is horrible end of discussion.

Not that there's anything wrong of course, but who exactly is up in these wee hours OKing the comments, I's just wondering!

For some reason Walnut will not pitch thier two best pitchers. What is the coach thinking.

To the 'Diamond Ranch is horrible' shoutbox out there:

NOT THAT THIS PROVES YOUR POINT (emphasis added) but Look this is irrelevant I know - Gabrielino with a shorthanded staff beat Diamond Ranch with practically their entire starters from this year and last year's CIF finalist team by narrow 3-1 score in a summer of 2007 July game.

However we lost 1-6 August of 08 when fielding only 7 players (1 came late) having to borrow 2 DR 'reserves'.

Let's go AZUSA! Fred those two wins are league wins! And the League just started last Week! So actually AZUSA, is in second place in their league with no losses.

Those previous games are just basically practice games. Yeah I know it hurts to lose any game, but those losses don't count in league standing.

AZUSA good luck this week, and Coach Rigney will have them ready to play.

Great pick that means Diamond Bar will win! You picked Glendora over Diamond Bar as well and Diamond Bar won.

Damien should win at Damien

Sierra League! said:

Fred,

Who do you think is going to win between Damien and Diamond Bar tomorrow?

FredJ said:

Don't take it sooo seriously, it's just to show who's improved and who's slipped since last year.

Diamond Ranch is horrible said:

I said it before and I will say it again, Diamond Ranch has ZERO pitching! How in the world did you (Fred) think they would be able to win? You ranked them in the top ten knowing they had ZERO pitching! Their pitchers from last year were below average compared to the Sierra league. But, when your division is weak your weak pitchers look like stars! You know how bad these pitchers must be? Really bad. When you have to pitch guys who have never pitched in high school and their Seniors that's bad.
