CIF messed up "Soccer Saturday"
"We tried (to move the game) but CIF had nothing to do with it. We proposed a neutral site and Salesian agreed that we should play at Sierra Vista for all of our fans, but CIF said, 'no, you're playing at 11:30 a.m. in Mission Viejo.' I don't know why they're doing that to us, they've made exceptions in the past. It just doesn't seem right." -- Baldwin Park coach Ricardo Mira
Saturday's CIF Championship games
Division V
Baldwin Park vs. Salesian, 11:30 a.m., at Mission Viejo High School
Division VI
Mountain View vs. Silverado, 11:30 a.m., Warren High School, Downey

The CIF-Southern Section sure didn't do the San Gabriel Valley any favors with Saturday's soccer schedule. I've already received several emails complaining about this. Why in the world would they send Baldwin Park and Los Angeles Salesian all the way to Mission Viejo instead of nearby Warren High in Downey makes no sense at all. I've heard the schools agreed to play closer, even at Sierra Vista, but CIF said, no. It doesn't make geogrpahic sense to go Mission Viejo, it doesn't make sense from a money-making point a view, and now fewer fans will likely attend. How great would it have been for the Baldwin Park and Mountain View games to have been back-to-back at Downey far all to witness. I'm upset because now I can't see both, but that's life. On the plus side, CIF split up the venues because for the first time, there will be no co-champions. There will be sudden death and penalty kicks if needed to decide champions.

Nickname given to me by my fraternity bros.
why "DETROIT"?
Justo "lucky charm" was in the band.
Jaime and Ruben I'm not sure. I know Jaime was ASB pres his senior year.
did they play soccer or football?
i have brothers across those years if they did?
also had brothers coach during that time
Class of 1995. I actually was living in BP and commuting on the bus to Salesian at the time. All of my older brothers ('76, '80, '81) and a couple of cousins graduated from Salesian. I kept the tradition going.
Detroit...what year?
Music to my ears!!!!! SALESIAN !!!!!!!
CIF CHAMPIONS!
Great Game Baldwin Park...Caoch Johnson said it best..."your time will come"
Is Baldwin Park in State as well?
I certainly hope so.

I got hats galore in every color and brand...and you know why!!!!! LOL If the sun breaks out tomorrow I'm breaking out my Black Beauty and enjoying the ride out !!! PRAY FOR SUNSHINE!!!!
It's going to be fun to run into old farts I haven't seen in 30 years or so.
Maybe even a couple of ex-coaches.
Somewhere up in heaven Bro. Tom is smiling and yelling....
"COME ON LADS!!!! COME ON LADS!!!"
What a great man he was.... the man was tuely a walking saint.
No bull.
SALESIAN , BALDWIN PARK, ITS ON TOMORROW. BRING UR BEST GAMES FORWARD. LETS PACK BOTH SIDES AND HAVE A GREAT GAME.
GO BRAVES !!!!
Mustang for Life,
Congratulations on your alma mater making it to the finals. Hope they do you proud . I am sure this is one game you will not miss. Wear that hat with pride tomorrow.BP is close to home but I have to go with the roots on this one.
Baldwin Park and Mountain View are pretty much a lock to be in the state tournament, which starts on Tuesday...
SGVrocks,
I couldn't agree with you more about the Los Alimitos Mayor. However, mine was not a racial slur it was just stating that things are much bluer in the OC (the water, the sky & the girls eyes). Unfortunately it came across more of a put down to BP & LA then as a light hearted joke.
But enough about that, I hope BP brings their best game down to Mission Viejo & brings home a title!
Baldwin Park...24 hour until game time!
This should be exciting! It's a long ride, hopefully everyone travels safe and the players experience a great game to remember.
Tomorrow looks to be beautiful weather and hopefully the stands are packed with fans from both teams.
May the best team win !!!
I'm already getting the chills.
Salesian Mustangs in the Chamionship Game...what could be sweeter!
FRED, U THINK B.P. HAS TO WIN TO GO TO THE STATE PLAYOFFS?
GO BRAVES !!!!
OC, thanks for being cool about it.
OC rocks,
You are starting to sound like former Los Alamitos Mayor Dean Grose..."I was just trying to have a little fun." There is no room for any Racial slurs on this blog or anywhere else, as is evident by his recent resignation!
Fred your right. I try to admit my mistakes. I should not have wrote that last sentence. I was just trying to have a little fun. Sorry.
SALESIAN, WHAT A HONOR IT IS TO BE PLAYING A CLASS PROGRAM WITH A CLASS FOLLOWING. GOOD LUCK TO U GUYS ON SATURDAY. IM HOPING MY BRAVES PULL THIS GAME OFF BUT WE KNOW IT WILL BE TOUGH. I BELIEVE IN ALL THOSE BRAVES PLAYERS, THAT WE CAN GET IT DONE. ITS GREAT TO BE PLAYING THE DEFENDING STATE CHAMPS, AND MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN..
GO BRAVES !!!!
I think CIF needs to have less involvement in school athletics. What is really the problem with kids transfering. What gives them the right to deny kids playing if they change schools. Someone needs to clean house over there. Someone needs start a petition to boycott CIF.
Manuel Navarro
Correct Spanish would have been:
"ellos (Gringos) son estúpidos"
If youre going to insult someone in Spanish, then at least do it right !??
You can banter back and forth about the game, but take the stereotypes somewhere else.
As far as I know, Salesian has already qualified for the state tournament. They are going to the small schools division (III in state). Four schools advance, and Salesian is one of only 3 teams that small to still be alive in the Southern Section. So Salesian, Avalon, Rosamond, and one more team (probably Animo) will go to the state Division III tournament from the Southern Section.
Last year Salesian got upset by Oaks Christian in the CIF semis but still made the state tourney then won it. So you don't have to be a CIF champ to get to the state tournament!
Does anyone know why Mountain View and Silverado, two schools with way over 2,000 students, are in Division VI???
SALESIAN WON STATE LAST YEAR. (there can only and always only be one "first" STATE CHAMPION...and that woud be my alma mater) THAT'S PROBABLY WHY.
Don't mess up a good game with talk like that! The best team will win...besides who knocked off the #1 and #3 teams?
The upset of upsets??? Baldwin Park is the #2 seed. Salesian is the #4 seed. Baldwin Park has over 2,500 students in their school. Salesian has fewer than 400. Baldwin Park moved down to Division V this year from Division IV. Seems like Salesian is the underdog to me!
Coach Mira...Salesian was willing to play the game at Siera Vista" wow. Pretty classy.
Fred it's remarkable the respect these two teams have for each other....maybe they see themselves in each other in some ways.
Game's going to be fun!
Fred I've asked for aloot of favors before but can you write that again....
"A TRADITIONAL POWER LIKE SALESIAN"
It took awhile but Salesian is in the house and in the San Gabriel Valley....with all teh other Boyle Heights Transplants!
Baldwin Park will be tough. I'll be at The Game cheering for the Mustangs along with I wonuld suspect a large crowd of friends and familia....with Salesian it's always about "la familia"
Best of luck to Baldwin Park. ..Congratulations, you have a fine team I'm sure.
Let's make all those OC snobs wish they knew how to play the "beautiful game" liek it's meant to be played...con gusto!
You've all vented and for very good reason, now can BPark pull of the upset of upsets. BTW, the winner goes to the state playoffs next week, so there could be much more on the way. Just making the finals, BPark and MView might already have qualified, but we won't know until the state pairings come out on Sunday. But win and you're in.
CIF normally schedules early games for teams they feel don't draw well. Someone should send them the video of Baldwin Park's crowd on Tuesday. I can't remember ever seeing anything like it. It is what it is now, what Baldwin Park needs to do is send the whole town there on Saturday. Do what Glendora basketball does, take busloads of people down there, especially students. You want to make a statement, do it in numbers.
Goooooooooal
goooooooooal
goooooooooal
goooooooooal
Los Championones
Baldwin Parque.
Los Gringos esta stupidos.
THERE IS NO REASONING OR JUSTIFYING THIS DECISION. ITS PRETTY UNFORTUNATE FOR BOTH TEAMS AND THE FANS SUPPORTING THEM. WHY WOULD THEY ACCOMODATE OTHER SCHOOLS AND NOT THESE 2?
GO BRAVES !!!!
I don't know if that's the case Bravetown, but I do know that Baldwin Park and Salesian have very strong soccer followings. What surprised me is that of the four games in Mission Viejo on Saturday, Baldwin Park and Salesian, which have long drives, have to play the early game over three girls games played after them. Why isn't the boys game the featured game of the evening, especially with a traditional power like Salesian and a BP team that is 25-1. It's bad enough they have to drive that far, and even worse they have to do it at 11:30 in the morning instead of later in the afternoon. The boys game should have been the prime time game, but sadly, most prime time games are reserved for Orange County teams. That's the injustice if you ask me.
FRED, I CAN GUARANTEE THAT IF BOTH THE SCHOOLS WERE KIDS THAT WERE "CAUCASIAN"
CIF WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM RELOCATING THE GAME. CHECK RIO MESA VS CHANNEL ISLANDS.
GO BRAVES !!!!
Oc rocks,
You are an idiot! OC will soon be all Latinos!
Mark my words!
BP is bringing their band to the game.
The Mariachi's
Oh like, why like, would they like, wanna like, do that?
Spike, that's an interesting suggestion...
CIF is a giant waste of money and time.....get rid of these idiots...some of them get paid $100,000+ to do nothing....research this if you think that I am not telling the truth
WHAT REALLY SUCKS IS THE FACT THAT ALOT OF OUR FANS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THAT DRIVE TO MISSION VIEJO. I FOR ONE HAVE NOT MISSED A GAME ALL YEAR, AND NOW OUR TEAM IS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THE GAME. CIF REALLY CHOKED ON THIS ONE
GO BRAVES !!!!
test
Fred wouldn't it be cool if both teams decided to play the Championship game some place else in protest?
What do you think CIF would do?
Seems CIF and 'this game" would get National Press...and you know how much CIF/BIG WIGS like a "spot light"...about as much as Roaches!
Wonder if you had any thought on that?
See ...I am a trouble maker....especially when it's teh"Right Thing To Do!"
Fred,
Who moniters CIF?
Why would they insist on MVHS? Is somebody padding their own pockets on this deal? Would they send OC teams to the SGV or the IE for a Championship game? Whats their motive?
CIF is making a big money mistake....isn't Channel Island playing Rio Mesa @Pacifica because of the commute..they sould do the same for BP and Salesian!
The game btween Salesian and BP should have been at ELAC. Thats pretty Neutral.
Yeah terrible location for BP and Sal..
My Predictions:
Mtn View 2-0
Salesian 3-1
Both games will be tough, the first 15 minutes will be teams trying to get their nerves out. Miss kicks and bad passes. At the end, Both teams above will show their true colors and take over when it counts.
