Softball: No. 1 Los Altos goes down; South El Monte, West Covina and Northview win big

| | Comments (70) |

Plenty of good local team are in this San Dimas tournament, which starts today. This is a great chance to see Los Altos in a very tough game against Etiwanda, but the game I really want to watch is the Smudge Pot softball style tomorrow between Bonita and San Dimas at 3:15 p.m. Bonita is fresh of the Palm Springs tournament title and is becoming the sleeper everyone has talked about on the blogs. But I don't think they beat San Dimas.

SAN DIMAS SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
Monday's results

Northview 10, Arcadia 1
South El Monte 4, Wilson 0
West Covina 4, Rialto 0
Etiwanda 3, Los Altos 0

Tuesday's games
Ontario Christian vs. Glendora, 7:15 p.m.
Nogales vs. Charter Oak, 3:15 p.m.
Alta Loma vs. La Puente, 5:15 p.m.
Bonita vs. San Dimas, 3:15 p.m.

Wednesday's quarterfinals
Northview vs. South El Monte, 3:15 p.m.
West Covina vs. Etiwanda, 5:15 p.m.

Speaking of Amber B - why wasn't she picthing last night against San Dimas?? That would have been great to see ... I hope to see her pitch as much as possible this year....

You know I totally agree with rgd2626.All you had to do is stand there, and you can here some of the parents talk about the coaches and players. I don't know maybe there kids are not getting playing time or coaching decisions. Not my problem, keep that between yourselves at home or take it up with the coaching staff. But I can tell you this much your making your school look really bad right now!! And you should really take a good look at yourself and realized that these are just kids. You want to take this forum personal that's your first problem.this is a forum for opinions like an a$$hole everyone has one, you don't have to be one.

I agree, we are talking softball. and speaking of softball, congrats to bonita for their huge win over san dimas yesterday. I guess all their non-believers have crawled back under their rocks...cuz boy those non believers can sure trash talk bonita, but interesting how quiet they are now..and who cares, yours fans are 100% behind you!!

The Real Story said:

Here are some interesting comments about Gano and his road to Damien. Most of you don't know the real story behind so many of these negative comments about Gano. About one year ago Gano's football team went 4-6. Things didn't look very good. People involved in the program projected an even worse season the following year based on talent (1-9). So what did Gano do, well he quit. But no Gano told all that he was quitting because he wanted to spend the next four years coaching his daughter. Gano being the AD at LA made that real easy, a few comments here and their and the current varsity head coach (well liked) was gone, opening up that spot for him to fill with himself. Not six months latter he applies for the Damien job. Which people start to question, because last I checked it is an all boy’s schools, no girl’s softball. Didn't he tell all that he left the football program to coach his daughter?

Gano really needs to get his STORY straight.

The lesson we can all learn from this is Gano talks the talk but he doesn’t lead by example.

Another note for all those Damien parents, there is about 12 spots left on that Varsity team next year. I have been informed by a very reliable source that Gano has recruited three players from the Damien area and two to three others from LA. That is five to six players already recruited to Damien. Please understand a recruited player doesn’t compete for his spot, it is guaranteed. Figure that most of these players are two way players and you only have 22 spots on the field, do the math. Damien parents something you might want to look into, some of these kids wouldn’t be able to pass the entrance exam and definitely can’t afford to attend the school. How Gano is going to take care of that is going to be real interesting.

Fred,

The bonita,SD match up will be a great game. Bonita is coming off a big win against Aquinas and division I LMU bound Stevie G. aka. Explosion Gold pitcher.
Not being able to hit a good pitcher was part of the problem last season, problem solved. this should be a huge confidence booster for them, this is the first big time pitcher they have beaten in a long time and showed something is going on right over there. Smudge pot or not I believe you may have picked the wrong team to win the bearcat engine is firing on all cylinders and has something to prove and not just to you but a score of non believers.

Believe now ? Bonita should beat alta loma and match up well with Glendora. Remember glendora only beat them 3-0 last year.

Thanks Fred.. and Nice job Lady Bearcats. your proved the non believers wrong. This is a new team.working together. good luck tomorrow...

True story, after Bonita knocked off San Dimas 5-3 in the San Dimas tournament on Tuesday, first-year coach Ken Carlson walked up and handed me a printed-copy of my prediction that they wouldn't beat the Saints. Glad to be of assistance, but seriously, they're legit and will give Los Altos and Charter Oak a run for their money in the Miramonte.

Are you a Los Altos parent? You seem to know what's going on with the program. I mean you know detail for detail or you say you know at least. Why don't you come out the closet and let us know who you are? If you are an LA parent, then your a sad puppy.

#1LA FAN said:

red2626

Not that its any of your business to be snooping around from parent to parent like some 15 yr old girl but the reason why some of these girls have been missing practice is because of broken ankle, stitches, sprained ankle, going on visits to schools,3 being very sick, that alone is 7 different girls!! this all happening in the past month! And if these are your friends what are you doing repeating what you heard?

And for the LA parents that are gossiping grow up! Are you what you want your kids to look up to and grow up like? Its pretty sad that you go around badmouthing your own kids team, and if your kids doing it remember your the adult, act like one! This isnt some rec-ball league, this is a strong team with a great group of players, dont make things worse for the players or the coaches by gossiping. This is a sport it should be fun, lets remember that!!!

Good Luck to LA and everyone in the SGV!

Alright Fred you saw it yourself.. Bonita beats San Dimas 5-3....what do you have to say for yourself now?????

!!!!!!!

What daughter? Im saying Diana is probably better then your daughter! {Thats what daughter} Whoever she may be! And if you dont have someone out here playing then get a life! What school are you from anyway huh observer?

Diana is an awesome pitcher both high school and travel ball!!! If you think otherwise well then YOU have the problem!!!She can hang with the best of them!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! said:

LA FAn- I'm not putting down Diana at all.If you read the post earlier I said that she's a good High school pitcher. And yes I do believe she's a great hitter. What the hell are you talking about. If you insist that the balls weren't hit hard, well then you were missing a great game. And what are you talking about a daughter? I'm just a very good observer of the game, you don't have to be a genius. And again she did great just left a couple balls hanging, that's all. it happens to the best. don't fool yourself. And if your on here to compare her to the top travel ball pitchers you have a problem. Dont take this so personal. I do hope she get's better and I'm sure she will.

#1LA FAN said:

By the way she didnt pitch for 2 WEEKS before the game name one pitcher in the sgv that would look half as good as she did last nite!NO ONE! 11k's vs. Etiwanda alone should shut you up!!!Shes a great pitcher for both high school and travel ball!!! Why you say just high school is a crock of sh*t!!!

#1LA FAN said:

!!!!!!!

Diana doesn't need to hit 4 home runs or like you said strike out 4x's. But i guarantee you, when shes in the line up and hitting she gets the team pumped and motivated, they arent worried about their best hitter on the team not hitting and having to fill her shoes! She gives them confidence!

Although she gave up those hits, only ONE was caught by the centerfielder, and that hit wasnt very deep at all,the others were grounders, what the hell were you talking about they wouldve been out??? What field would they have been out of? your full of sh*t!

In fact the only one to hit it that deep was one of LA's freshman in the 5th, smacked it to left field she caught it but that was the furthest ball. Before you try and talk sh*t know what the hell your talking about or your just making your self look like an idiot!!! Or a hater, cuz thats all your doing is hating,Lord knows your daughter isnt the player she is,even with Patterson being hurt,so you have to look for something to say to put her down! Trust me there isnt anything you or anyone says that will break her spirit!!! She has a phoenominal support system in her family and close friends!

At the end of the day Etiwanda just capitalized on a couple KEY mistakes, As #9fan said they wont be going down as errors but those there saw what happened, no excuses, the better team that day won!

curious said:

!!!!!!

what team are you from?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! said:

Well thank you, we do agree on something here. And yes I do agree, That Diana doesn't need any excuses on what happen out there. And I have a feeling that she'll work harder to get better and healthier. And hopefully the other players get healthy as well. Cant wait to see the whole team healthy. And good luck also to all the SGV teams.

LA softball mom said:

!!!!!!!,
You said it it was a team loss, not one person and if you know Diana like LA know's Diana you know her being hurt would not be an excuse for her she would look at it,as she need's to work harder and get healthy.
It was a good game no shoulda woulda coulda here! This time Etiwanda beat LA congtats.
Let's all remember it's 1 game not the whole season, LA will be fine they will all get healthy and imagine them healthy and with games under there belt? I'm looking forward to that.
Good Luck to all the SGV Teams in the tournament.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! said:

If you still believe in "What If" go head. It is what it is..If Diane hit 4 home runs or she struck out 4 time looking it is what it is..None of that happend. She's only one person/player..just one.Remember the team lost.Only the first game of the season.

#9fan said:

non believer , sorry your right I misread it thank's for the head's up
It should have been addressed to !!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! said:

I'm not questioning if they were singles, doubles or tiples. A hard hit is a hard hit. were talking about being hit hard. Diane is a very good pitcher (high school pitcher) I'm not knocking her at all for that.Hope the rest of the team gets better.

#9 fan said:

!!!!!, what im saying is diana gave up 6 singles and 2 hits that were big mental mistakes. what im saying is with diana in the line-up they would have been a stronger line-up. who knows what would have happened. etiwanda was a good strong team but they did not hit her hard they took advantage of the mental mistakes and scored on them.

!!!!!!!!! said:

They were singles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! said:

#9 fan- Diane was it very hard. The ball hit to shallow left wasn't hit hard and was the biggest mistake of the game. Some of the ball that were hit and caught would of been over some fences at some school. I know they were playing deep. LA hit a couple of hard shots that were cought. And are you telling me that if Diane was in the line up she would of hit 4 home runs to win the game. You are crazy.LA only had 4 hits total in the game. And If you you hang a pitch, they'll bang it. simple as that.

#9 fan said:

NON BELIEVER : You say Diana was hit hard come on she gave up 8 hits which a few of them were mental errors that will not show up on paper so really just 6 hits. she struck out 11 and you say she was hit hard i dont think so. etiwanda was a good team but if diana was in the line-up im sure it would have been an even better game.

A number 2-3 pitcher on this years team. You have to remember she didn't pitch at nationals when she tried out she got rocked and remember they told her she wasn't ready. So after the season she joined the team. Not knocking her credentials, good enough for LMU (full ride or not) don't know. And by the way I do agree with you about DR.

non bliever said:

A pretty good hs pitcher to boot .54 era and 189ks, and going to LMU cha ching, A number 2 or 3 pitcher on 4th place at gold Nationals Explosion is a number one on most top ten gold teams. But hey only my humble opinion I think the ranch will be a sleeper as well and don't count out CO just yet remember every high school game goes 7innings.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! said:

Wow-im not blaming coaches. I'm just merely stating that playing some games before a tournament that was schedule for months would of been good for the girls. The new coach had enough time to schedule games but didn't. And it showed out there. And it's not like the new coach is new he's been there for a few years already. And the way Gano left that's alright, he looking for something better for his future, cant blame the guy. I know some of the player are injured and that's going to happend.Diane still threw well not complaining there.Just left a couple ball hanging and good hitter will hit it.And that's what they did and hard.

LA Softball.........Are you serious? Coach G was only thinking about himself? You know nothing about Coach G and his character and commitment to that LA softball team. Because he left and took a job so that he could take care of his family you would use that as an excuse for your sub-par play!! Cheap shot.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! said:

Non-believers- Stevie is a good high school pitcher. For explosions she a good # 2-3 pitcher. Not taking anything away from her. I hope Bonita's does something positive this year and makes this Mirimonte league a little closer then the past years.Who do you think can give LA a run in league besides Bonita? The way LA looks they need to get there bat's going.I'm sure Diane will be Diane in the circle.

Wow! said:

!!!!!! and Glendora will win it,

Do you guys seriously have nothing else to do but to try to start crap? Seriously, it was the 1st game of the year. And you already trying to blame the coaches. They didn't do anything wrong.....You guys are probaly not married with all the time you guys have disrespecting coaches and players. Get a Life!

Glendora will win said:

LA softball sorry to say but you are wrong thats a lame excuse the new coach at LA had plenty of time to get his team ready scheduling games this season was the easiest thing to do rememeber no more association rule teams have been playing for months scheduling a game was just a phone call away. Now the stitches ok I give you that one not easy to play when your hurt that bad. Blaming the ex coach thing is starting to get old had enough of that from other blogs.

bearcatfan said:

well said nonbeliever.Bonita has only 1 way to go and that is up. they were right on in palm springs and dont expect anything to go any different from here on out. Obviously attitude and the power of positive thinking was 1 element missing in the past as this years starting lineup is not too different from last with the exception of the addition of Amber B who will only make this team stronger whether on the mound or her bat. and to those SD moms last night who thought they would try to "rattle" a couple lady bearcats, nice try..

LA Softball said:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,

They aren't hiding from anyone. You have a program that the ex-coach (Gano) didn't schedule any games. He was to busy looking for a new job, then walking away from the team. Diana isn't the only player on the team that is playing injured. I would have to say the 24 stitches in her knee did affect her pitching.

Yes their all lots of parent on this team that aren't very happy witht the way Gano handled this situation. But would you have expected any different from a person that is only concern with himself.

Good game last night between LA/Etiwanda.Crucial mistake in the outfield that coused a snowball effect.Pulver pitched a great game for Etiwanda and should deserve some credit here. When you dont hit or score you dont win. And even if Diana was to hit,I mean come on there was a total of 4 hits for LA. When Etiwanda played over 20 games before this one and LA plays 3 that definitely showed out there. Do you blame the coaches for that. Its like who are you hiding from? everyone know about your program and talent.

sgv softball fan said:

Good pitching match-up with Etiwanda/LA, Etiwanda winning 3-0, some mental mistakes but something LA can learn from.
Good Job Diana-Lynn you pitched a heck of a game, no excuses huh. Seeing all the people and other teams watching you they knew something was up with you not in the batting line-up you showed what a quality team player you are.
