Softball: San Dimas returns to the top, 1-0

Above: San Dimas pitcher Kortnie Clark, seen here last season, was solid
in the circle to lead the Saints over Northview on Friday.
Back in familiar territory: San Dimas, which had ruled the Valle Vista League softball standings before Northview ended the fun last season, returned to the top Friday with a 1-0 victory over the Vikings at San Dimas.
Kortnie Clark and Gipsy Ramirez combined on a three-hit shutout and the Ramirez had an RBI single in the fifth to lead the Saints, who improved to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in league play. Northview, getting a solid effort in the circle from Chrissy McPhail, slipped to 5-4 and 2-1.
Ramirez, who had three hits, scored Ariel Shore, who reached first on an error before stealing second and third.
San Dimas coach Don Pollard: "That was a nice win. That was an awesome effort by both teams. We both had our opportunities, but we were able to break through on them."
Northview coach Jeff Butler: "I'm not sure why we threw to second. We knew she's the fastest human alive we've ever seen. She reached base on an error then we tried to pick her off at second. We basically turned an out into a triple. Then she scored on a base hit. I don't know if she would have scored from second, but it would have been close."
