Softball Top 10: Los Altos still wears the crown
It's still Los Altos: Los Altos solidified its hold on the top spot with a steady, 6-4 victory over Bonita. Glendora, which is off until the day after April Fools Day, stays at No. 2 while Bishop Amat enjoys a big win with the Arroyo Tournament championship and moves into No. 3. Bonita slides a bit to No. 4, with San Dimas rounding out the top 5. Azusa drops out after a three-game losing streak, which puts South El Monte back in.

This week's big games:
Wednesday: Walnut at Nogales
Friday: Northview at San Dimas
Top 10 Rankings
1. Los Altos (5-2) - The Conquerors lived up to their name with a 6-4 win at Bonita last week before splitting a pair of tournament games. Los Altos looks to have a firm hold on the top spot with Diana-lynn Patterson in the circle.
2. Glendora (5-2) - The Tartans have yet to capture the momentum, but it was the same last season, until a late-season run to the finals.
3. Bishop Amat (6-3) - The Lancers lived up to the billing by winning the Arroyo Tournament before looking respectable in a 3-2 loss to Rosary on Monday. Next up: Mater Dei.
4. Bonita (9-2) - The Bearcats gave Los Altos a run of its money, and it wouldn't surprise most if they pulled off the upset in the rematch, except for the Conquerors.
5. San dimas (4-3) - The Saints look to take the quick lead in the Valle Vista League when they host Northview on Friday.
6. St. Lucy's (7-5) - The Regents looked lost in a 10-0 loss to San Dimas, but fought back to get a split with a 1-0 victory. This team looks capable of making a run for the title in the Sierra League.
7. Charter Oak (6-3) - The Chargers have the best-hitting team in the area, and there are times when the pitching does come around. The key is consistency.
8. Northview (4-3) - The Vikings have looked steady, but they get a major test against San Dimas on Friday.
9. Sierra Vista (4-0) - The Dons, who were impressive last year, again look like the team to beat in the Montview League.
10. South El Monte (4-3) - Reina Gaber and the Eagles are finding their rhythm.

Have you not been listening Bonita parents are the worst dude all they do is talk smack about eachother its fricken hilarious they should do what Upland does and have 20 girls on varsity make all the parents happy. Alternate games and let the girls play where ever they want.lol

are you that unhappy with LA softball that you are gonna write that LA has daddyball?? or that the score keeper is giving better stat's to the pitcher/sister or how sad you are to write that a mom cheers for the team to help her kid, come on a#@ think about what you just wrote, why wouldnt you cheer for your team, and not bash them like you? isnt this a team sport? arent we supposed to be cheering our teams not writting the negatives on here? and all this started cause you had to bring up comment about this weekends games that you just so happened to hear about..... so think about what you write before you type it, LA is doing good as a team there happy, playing the game the way it should be played were getting better as the season goes on. so be happy for the girls or make your smart a$# remarks some where else but dont put down parents that cheer there teams win or loose.

I never said I was one of the mom's little man........I said I over heard the mom's speaking...I dont remember saying they were pumping up egos either, the one mom making an observation just like you.
well, you were right about one thing Candrea is at UofA not ASU, I'll give you that, my bad. So jump up on your soapbox and continue making your smart a#@ remarks and remember even if it were a young team, age doesnt matter if there in hs or not just play the game. before I forget your source way wrong about the ss giving the so call gift to LA, it was a hard hit ball that hit the pitcher.
oh by the way you sure sound like you were a coach of daddy ball......
Also LA if you havent noticed is playing as a team cause they unlike you are enjoying there season so far.
Posted by: another LA fan | March 30, 2009 2:17 PM
tossup I feel pretty bad a dime a dozen is far too many giving it to a first year coach.
Posted by: onlooker | March 30, 2009 1:19 PM
Do you really think people care about two mom's building up there ego's on there kid expense..are you serious..you are sad..I only want to hear the facts about the game that's what my source gives me..And if you want to say beating a team of youngsters with a 2-5 record is a good win go ahead and glorify it.. if you must.. And speaking about Candrea, from U of A not ASU Yea I have spoken to the man the mans a great coach..All I'm saying is that LA didn't play tough teams.. just the fact and I'm sure your coaching staff would agree..No one's bashing here just facts and opinions..maybe your to sensitive for this blog..
Posted by: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! | March 30, 2009 1:07 PM
!!!!!!!!
here you go again on your soapbox you dont care about what other teams mom have to say about our team, but, when you say you are not at our games and "you say you heard" why dont you just keep your jealous sounding comments to yourself and let LA enjoy our season go write about somebody elses team mr thinks he knows it all. unless you Candrea from ASU , I dont really think what your oppinon is really matters.... and if the ss from saturdays game gave LA a gift we'll take it cause LA fans know LA has given plenty of gifts out in our losses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep up the hard work ladies looking forward to your games this week.
FredJ will you be at the the rematch of LA/Bonita ?
Posted by: another LA fan | March 30, 2009 12:23 PM
another La Fan-
I dont ask or care about other teams mom's talking to each other telling each other how good there kid is.. please get off the trip.. by the way it's a team sport.. Someone should of gave that other team shortstop a Los Altos Hat for the gift she gave them in extra innings..And I wouldn't be all that excited playing for 8 or 9th place..come on.. are you serious..I'm sure these are not the teams LA wanted to play for the last two weekends..And I don't blame LA they didn't make the schedule..but they were not tough teams at all..
Posted by: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! | March 30, 2009 11:42 AM

you heard right, the games this past weekend for LA were good games, if there was a fence up LA would have had at least 2 hr's in the second game, they played us deep.
just incase whoever is feeding you our updates did'nt tell you... a parent approached us from Cathedral and commented "what a pitcher we have, she has a lot of movement on her pitches and has more then just fastball riser and off speed it keeps the girls guessing??? I also heard the lady tell DLP's mom the other pitcher is a sophomore and this is her first year on varsity, DLP's mom was also asked how long DLP has been on varsity her mom said since freshman year.
Great Job LA,, it looks like going out of the area is giving LA a broader look at other pitching and is only gonna give them more confidence cause we can compete!
Posted by: another LA fan | March 30, 2009 11:15 AM
Hey how did the other teams do in league this past week or weekend. Heard LA played the sister of Mercy and beat them like 8-0 and had a tough game against some other team that went to extra inning..don't know how good that team was??Just heard they were all young..
Posted by: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! | March 30, 2009 10:49 AM
thebigkidsmom maybe the ones who have a season or two left have been waiting for the poison to leave? The problem stems from people chosing to air their dirty laundry here! I was wondering how long it would take for you to surface always knew you were there.

Personally,i think fred should disable the comment feature on this blog for awhile. What was intended as a form for friendly opinions and discussions has turned into a place for those to hide behind anonymous names and attack players and parents. I have watched and read while those with a cruel heart, post and compare stats, criticize lineups, point out error after error, bad mouth great pitching and hitting for no other reason than they don't like that girl or her parents. It seems some are not only predicting, but wishing for the team and program as a whole to fall apart. Not too long ago, someone on this blog said bonita parents are the worse. I don't know about that, but I do know that in the 4 years my daughter has played basketball and softball at bonita, I have never read another group tear their players, coaches and parents apart like bonita parents and fans do. For the seniors, this is their final season and as parents we are hoping it can be a memorable one. But for those who still have another year or 2 left, these harsh words do nothing but breed jealousy, suspician and bad feelings among everyone involved. Some of these girls having been playing together on and off for years. Some have formed close friendships while some will never be best friends.Let us remember each girl was chosen for her particular talent, but she cannot do it alone. This team needs to work together to continue their success. These girls need to know their parents & fans are behind them 100%,not bad mouthing them for their individual accomplishments. I encourage every bonita parent, player and fan to vow to not get pulled into the poison this blog has become. While i know that our first instinct is to defend our daughters and even ourselves, but unfortunately that is pointless. Let's be proud of all of our players, whether on the bench or on the field. Let us celebrate every win and move pass the losses, as a team. Let us help make the 2009 season one that will be remembered and be the blueprint for years to come.

ok, how about bearcatalummni instead of bearcatfan? you think you are so smart figure it out.laverne is a small town. bonita has very loyal fans who come and watch games long after they graduate, even sports we didnt play. we talk, we watch and hear..and all i was pointing out was what mr.k daughter has had to put up with last year and was finally looking forward to her senior year.and because things looked good in the beggining, it would only make sense that it would be that much harder to deal with after having it ripped out from underneath because of one game.believe it or not unless YOU played for former coaching staff you are clueless.and guess what? I was NOT on the bench. I was a starter. didnt mean i was happy.you would of been hard pressed to find many parent/player, starter or benchwarmer who were. even the ones "showing their appreciation" with equipment, $$ and new uniforms, worming their way into a coaching job, etc etc etc., they were unhappy but kept their mouths shut as long as their dollars kept their daughter in the game. and from what i hear those same ones are at it this year.lurking around the field at practice, keeping score....so doesnt matter who the coach is some parents have no faith in their girls to let them prove themselves on their own. as far as big kids parents.you have no idea the kind of garbage her parents and they werent the only ones, were forced to deal with. when your kid is constantly told she is the best hittier on the team and she is, but then pulled out of games so a freshman, batting .080 could bat instead. lets see how happy you would be..im done, i have a life...

I can guarantee all this Bonita bashing is in-house. Please do me a favor and get a life.....It's only a game!

hey onlooker, sorry to dissapoint but have no kid on that team. so focus your attention on the parents who are are giving it to the coach. are you one of them?they are easy to spot.and a dime a dozen..as far as big kid, hear she hit a grand slam other day.
Posted by: tossup | March 28, 2009 11:10 PM
Bearcatfan,
You crack me up Stop already, its a little late to still be blaming the old coach for Robert Ks kid not playing its a new season still not playing put the blame where it needs to be now. Daddy should have put the kid in travel ball period. And look who's hiding behind an anonymous name since your so brave!
Posted by: Bgfndl | March 28, 2009 8:28 PM
bearcatfan I thought there was an I in team oh wait thats time and its only a matter of time before the wheels fall off lol they always do in the LV
Posted by: LAFan#3 | March 28, 2009 7:56 PM
Hey tossup I really hope your kid plays or the new coach is giving you something of worth your head is so far up his -- its pitiful and as for Robert K he will turn which ever way the wind blows, finally starting to show his true colors and don't worry give the big kid parents sometime now that the starting first basemen is starting to hit with consistency their stock is starting to tumble its only a matter of time before the lid blows.
Posted by: onlooker | March 28, 2009 7:52 PM
bonita softball is not doomed.our lineups mean nothing coach will do what he will do and let the chips fall where they may. leave the girls be and let them play. they have proved themselves so far this season , even with the loss to LA, who cares, one game.lots of softball left.all you bonita bashers are just worried cuz la has something to actually worry about this year.good for you bearcats.you have turned this team around and are on the way to prove all the non believers wrong..we are your biggest fans and we have been telling everyone this is a new team this year with addition of new coach. they didnt believe it but look at you now... great job
Posted by: tossup | March 27, 2009 4:04 PM
hey seenlTB4 if you are a bonita parent, you are probably part of some imaginary problem in your head.if not you dont know what you are talking about.coach c has nothing but support from parents. he is a breath of fresh air for a program that has been a ignored, ridiculed and unsupported for years. Is he perfect,no. can he make everyone happy no. but he is turning this program around and for that all bonita fans are happy. As with any other program there are always going to be gripes and complaints when things are not going the way some parent or even player wants. that is the norm. love the coach today, hate him tomorrow.but you dont give the girls enough credit. with the exception of a couple of ego maniacs who think team cant survive without them, and yes, that is more parents doing then anything, pumping their kid and teaching them there is an "I in team, these girls are working together, happy, determined to get better and finally put bonita on the map. So does robert k words tarnish the program?? No, hey give the guy some credit he is not hiding behind a anonymous name. he should be mad .his kid has given all to this program to be ignored by a coach last year who did not hide the fact he wanted nothing to do with juniors & seniors and than finally given the chance to prove her worth this year until 1 bad game and she is done. anyone at bonita or any other school who says they would not react the same is full of it and everyone knows it. as far as you and all the other bloggers, like all the LA fans, the more you shoot the lady bearcats down by your negative garbage the more motivated they are to prove you wrong.
Posted by: bearcatfan | March 27, 2009 1:48 PM
Bonita softball is doomed! Same old poison year after year. It's not the coaching, the players or travelball. It's the parents! Always has been! Too many factors go into the line up. Which most parents sitting in the stand with nachos and a coke since they were eight, wouldn't know about or think about. Bonita lost to a team that has one of the best area pitchers, former "player of the year" and you are suprised you were in a game and lost! Diana's a winner and Bonita should've beat her when they had the chance. Errors on any team make it tough, what about attitudes or mental toughness? Parents, let your team enjoy their ranking, support your program and encourage your daughter to prove her worth. That's when it satisfies the most. Stop trying to use your own voucher for your kid's ability. Carlison needs support not back bitting. It's a cancer that will destroy Bonita's chances.
Posted by: SeenITB4 | March 27, 2009 9:12 AM
Robert k,
what you contributed to the program three years ago means nothing today. Feeling a little bitter all of sudden what was your quote a while back the best and classiest coach in the league. you forgot to say until my kid doesn't play.

You cant get by LA even on Pattersons bad day, and you think your gonna compete vs. "the big girls" as you say. I highly doubt it! You dont want to consider them a big team, thats fine but give them some credit. They are 11-0 vs. you in the past 4 yrs. How many times has Patterson given up 3 walks in a game? Against Ayala she only gave up 1,that game went 12 innings and those were the big girls. You were really sitting on cloud 9 the 1st few innings, but once LA came around you all fell apart, the parents more then the girls it seems. I guarantee you dont score that many vs. her again. The way Contreras has always smashed on your pitching. And with the freshman all starting to hit, along with Courtney and Roxys bat i know you wont beat LA.Yes, you had errors,so did we along with Patterson not at the top of her game that day, i cant wait till next weeks match up on LA's turf!
Posted by: #1LA FAN | March 27, 2009 8:00 AM
dont think anyone on here actually thinks coach is going to read and go, oh yeah u guys r right let me make changes.while some may have been watching these girls for years and know where their strenghs are, doesnt matter.everyone knows this isnt rec ball, everyone on that team with exception of SS,3rd(senior 3rd) and catcher plays travel ball. but i think we all can agree that most of us feel that bonitas infield needs a major overhaul if they plan to compete cif. they can get by playing games like today but when they start playing the bigs girls and i dont mean LA,they will be in trouble.glad to see he made 1 infield change today maybe more to come.

you need to really understand being a senior doesn't mean you play athleticism is what counts there's a lot of parents, jv parents in particular who think there kid can hit or play defense with the best of them but this isn't rec ball, you know them playing rec ball not at this level at some point the blinders need to come off and when they face a good varsity pitcher and hitters reality sets in. If your not humbled yet you soon will be. I've seen enough chicken runners from 1st to second to last a life time.

Robert K.
Sorry to tell you but I think her best shot was at second base in the beginning but now its tuff that wasn’t just a game that was thee game no second chances after that game.
Posted by: Bart | March 26, 2009 8:53 PM
People, I guarantee you the coach does not give a crap about any of your suggestions,as long as they win, There is no competetion in our league other than Los Altos. This team has not been positioned correctly all year, errors are still happening every game. It will not hurt until CIF, I hope. EVERY ONE HAS A BAD GAME, It just sucks when you are given up on after one game when you have contributed to the program for three years of experience !
Posted by: Robert K | March 26, 2009 5:32 PM
but hey bart do agree with your lineup. seems you and fan2 are thinking alike. meaning we all see same thing. dont know about kc or vr at 5 but who knows.
Posted by: tossup | March 26, 2009 5:01 PM
hey bart, u asked question obviously have an opinion geesh dont get your shorts in a twist..
Posted by: tossup | March 26, 2009 4:53 PM
bart, i agree with you - all out of position.
Posted by: fan3 | March 26, 2009 2:07 PM
we have watched these girls playball since they were 8 years old. we know what positions they are good at and what positions they are NOT so good at. they have specific positions that they have played over the years and have gotten really good at them. coach needs to read these blogs and see what we are suggesting in changes. maybe if coach makes some changes based on our knowledge over the years of watching these girls grow up, maybe coach may have a sold team with the right players in the right positions. i don't see us going to cif based on the lineup we have now, but i guess coach will put players where ever and just hope for the best. since this is "senioritis" all over again, i guess the moral of the story is not to playball in your senior year if you don't want to sit.
Posted by: fan3 | March 26, 2009 2:04 PM
fan2 looks good but throw campa out to left or center.those 2 have not been hitting.takes pressure off campa at short but keeps her bat
Posted by: tossup | March 26, 2009 1:53 PM
tossup get a life! here you go you twisted my arm. Player intitials followed by postition
cs at 6 ab at 5 jc at 4 hc at 3 cw on the mound cl behind the plate bv at 7 bs at 8 ag at 9, vr warming up kc on the sidelines. vr first one off the bench to run bring up the shortstop and 3rd baseman from jv. cw and kc hit when they pitch the other pinch hits or dh for struggling bat. When ab is on the mound kc or vr at 5. Last thing cb should have had a chance at 4 whether she makes it or not up to her? jc starts the season in 8 move bs to 9.
my two cents worth.
peace out'
Posted by: Bart | March 26, 2009 1:43 PM
the reason why cw has the better average is because she is always pitching every game. coach doesn't give ab the chance to pitch. also from the bonitasports.com website it looks like coach and cw has private pitching lessons. read the story and tell me what you think.
Posted by: another fan | March 26, 2009 1:12 PM
bart u think everyone is out of position so what is your opinion?
Posted by: tossup | March 26, 2009 1:02 PM
dont need my opinion about lineup.just watch a game
Posted by: tossup | March 26, 2009 12:26 PM
yeah put senior 3rd baseman back in and let her redeem herself from los altos game or move her to 2nd her true position. move new 3rd baseman over to short, by far a better SS than current one and was wasted at 2nd. bring amber in to 2nd or 3rd if he isnt going to pitch her. senior at 1st . pull junior garay from bench and stick her in RF.anyone that has seen her play knows she is wasted on the bench.
Posted by: fan2 | March 26, 2009 12:24 PM
tossup,
sounds like your a little unhappy with who is playing please tell us who should be where in your opinion?
Posted by: Bart | March 26, 2009 12:08 PM
fan2,
Its good that you said some and not just one because the errors are spread pretty even all over that infield personally I believe they are all out of position.
Posted by: Bart | March 26, 2009 11:07 AM
dont think anyone is disputing cw pitching she is doing a great job. but she is not the only great pitcher he has.would like to see amber on the mound.
Posted by: bearcatfan | March 26, 2009 9:56 AM
if amber pitching better than cw right now why is she not pitching??i might agree with anotherfan.he may be keeping the team young, seniors on way out.
Posted by: fan2 | March 26, 2009 9:49 AM
yeah girls out there playing game but coach is one who needs to make changes where needed. bonita is 12 games in and infield has not changed too much. yeah senior 3rd baseman banished to bench for los altos loss. 2nd move to 3rd, rf moved to 2nd that combined with SS and junior 1st baseman error issue has not been solved. amber sent to rf senior big kid splitting time at 1st and DH.maybe it is senioritis. of course all bonita fans happy to see CIF ranking.
Posted by: tossup | March 26, 2009 9:45 AM
You have to remember that CW does have a better era.I'm sure you guys were happy to see AB come back..I mean is she pitching better then CW right now.Be honest with yourself..We all know that the team has to get better in the infield that's no question.. and remember it's the kids that swing the bat and the kids that field the ground balls not the coaches..Lets not give up on the girls, they are the ones playing the game not the coaches..So ease up on the coaches..And by the way were you guys surprise or happy a little bit that CIF has you ranked 3 in the Division.
Posted by: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! | March 26, 2009 8:23 AM
my point exactly some of that infield needs to be on the bench but if coach is willing to let their constant errors slide than he will get what he gets
Posted by: fan2 | March 26, 2009 7:37 AM
its called "senioritis" bonita, regardless of coach is a firm believer in seniors on the bench.
Posted by: anotherfan | March 26, 2009 6:59 AM
then maybe it's not the coach but the players. expectations must be realistic.
Posted by: take a hard look | March 25, 2009 9:00 PM
that pitcher isnt only one who will have to keep together, their infield is prone to errors.they need to tighten things up and not rely on pitcher to do all the work for them
Posted by: fan2 | March 25, 2009 8:56 PM
thought there was alot of excitement with bachman back too bad she not getting the chance
Posted by: fan | March 25, 2009 8:54 PM
i guess it's 'last year' all over again, but with a different coach this time. thought we were going to see some changes this year, but i guess not.
Posted by: ??? | March 25, 2009 8:24 PM
hey genius, just asking why she wasnt given chance. all relative, just compare innings pitched .and that los altos game she pitched 1 inning and thanks to her defense ( 7 errors) not all her doing.guess he is putting all his eggs in 1 basket, hope other pitcher can keep it together.
Posted by: tossup | March 25, 2009 7:24 PM
Well lets see one pitcher has a .40 Era the other a 2.74 who would you pitch genius?

Softball mania-
I agree this one was for the books.. Both pitchers threw very well for there teams..I tip my hat off to LA they gave it there all good effort... I thought Ayala hit a little better but LA defense was kept in the game..some crucial base running errors from Ayala, some of the girls tried to turn doubles into triples..why at that time?they had no outs..good defense again from LA..But a clutch hit to center field that the center fielder couldn't handle that was a hit right mike..JH is going to UCLA and she's only a junior..wow one more year in high school, feel bad for the other teams she threw very well. And so did DL.. she showed a lot of heart.LA couldn't get that clutch hit or bunt down.. I'm sure they'll get better and learn from this game..
Posted by: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! | March 25, 2009 9:06 AM
Yes this was one for the books.
Diana-Lynn and Jessica pitched very good games, it came down to sticks and solid defense and LA is still working to get stronger.
Ladies we know what we need to work on lets keep up the hard work!

The Los Altos vs Ayala game was one for the books. The game went 12 innings. Ayala scored in the top of the 12th and stopped LA from scoring the tying run from 3rd base. Ayala won with the score of 3-2.
Diana-Lynn (LA) and Jessica Hall (Ayala) pitched an outstanding game. I hear Jessica will be joining the UCLA softball team when she graduates.
Awesome game.

Good job Fred, I think you got this right..BA should be it the top 3..I don't think they will get buy Mater Dei..It's hard getting pass BM she's by far one of the top pitchers in Socal she's only a freshman..LA will face her later on at the Santiago Tourney will see what they can do against her..But good luck to LA when they play..BA has a tough schedule..As far as the SGV BA should be right there on top 3 maybe even 2..LA plays Ayala today and will see how they do against JH,she's a stud and she'll show you what 60mph plus looks like..I hope LA doesn't take this team lightly..And I'm sure they wont..But good luck to both teams..
