Softball Wednesday: Walnut 2, Nogales 0

Above: Walnut's Devyn Craine delivers a pitch during Wednesday's
San Antonio League game at Nogales. The Mustangs scored
a 2-0 victory.

Walnut 2, Nogales 0: Lauren Gomez had an RBI single in the seventh and was solid in relief to lead as the Mustangs took sole possession of first place in the San Antonio League.
Gomez gave up just one hit and struck out four in four innings to improve to 3-2. Walnut is now 5-2 and 2-0. Nogales, which had runners in scoring position with less than two outs in the first and third innings, slipped to 4-6 and 1-1.
Walnut coach Jennifer Cuevas: "For whatever reason, and I was joking (with the players) abou this, it seems to be a Walnut thing (to rally late). We always want to wait until the very last minute. I don't know if its the pressure that gets to them and the adrenaline helps them, but we just seem to come through. They just do it. I think they just strive on making us (coaches) sweat it out."
Nogales coach Tim Purcell: We couldn't get that execution going. We were one base hit from scoring four runs (today). I just told my girls to keep it simple, keep your head up. We play them twice again, and we'll be ready for them."

Someone told me today that noone cares about the JV teams. I said thats funny then why are all these people here? Obviously schools place less priority on JV and they certainly get very little attention in comparison but to say noone cares is just flat out wrong. So to the director of the Ayala softball tournament who specifically stated that every year they have difficulties in the way the tournament is ran and have never cared enough to create a tournament thats winner is decided by performance rather than a flip of a coin! These girls, coaches and families spend alot of time doing all the hard work thats necessary way before game time and we would expect that you do the same! How could Glendora Jv who lost to South hills JV but eveidentally had the same record be playing in the championship game? yes both had the same record but the fact that south hills beat glendora should obviously say alot about who should be in the championship game! Had anyone known this tournament wasn't really a tournament but all about flipping coins, I'm thinking we all would've said thanks but no thanks to the Ayala Tournament!

It sounds like you were not at the game yesterday between NV and BP? There was a mercy rule. The full game was not played and NV did not steal the bases. The questions that I ask you is...#1. Would you want the girl NOT to get in the box with the intention to hit the ball? #2. What should the girls do when they are constantly hitting the ball over the fence? Not run the bases? As a parent, I completely feel for the other team. But it is not fair to bash a team when all they are doing is hitting the ball and the game ends early due to the mercy rule. This score was final due to just hitting the ball.

NV and BP learned or achieved absolutely nothing from this game.. It's sad to see teams just pile it on, on another team..except coaches ego trying to pat there teams stats on behalf of an average or bad team..And please don't talk about NV and Covina merging.. Can you imagine the politics and parents..They would kill each other..That's just way too crazy to imagine..PLEASE DON'T BRING THAT UP AGAIN.LOL..

When and when not is there a mercy rule?

NV 25, BP 1. Your kidding right! That's incredible.

What if NV and Covina would merge? The way Charter Oak and Royal Oak did back in the day.

They would become a major powerhouse in the SGV.

San Dimas 4 Covina 1

Great Start Lady Saints!!!!

Go Nobles!!!

Steve why are you kicking Covina to the curb??

OMG!! Those are true tough games!! Give me a break!!
