With Nothview getting knocked out, Glendora and Bonita will play for the title

| | Comments (37) |

Northview goes down and Bishop Amat flirted with a second loss, guess that means the gap in the Valley is much closer than I thought. Are you ready for this: Bonita and Glendora will meet in the championship on Saturday night, and with it comes the area's top ranking. Lets face it, they have been the two most impressive teams in the tournament, with the Bearcats losing only 4-3 to Northview, and Glendora sailing through in each round with great defense and hitting. On another note, even Northview coach Darren Murphy is disappointed the Vikings won't be playing Bishop Amat in the Glendora tournament. With Amat and Northview in consolation games, he was hoping tournament officials would pair them up on Saturday. It's not a bad idea, imagine the turnout and sales with Northview-Bishop Amat followed by Bonita-Glendora.

Saturday's Glendora tournament schedule
At Henderson Field
Championship

Glendora vs. Bonita, 7 p.m.
Third Place
Diamond Ranch vs. Northview, 3 p.m.
Fifth place
Ayala vs. Bishop Amat, 11 a.m.
Consolation at Glendora High
Crescenta Valley vs., Charter Oak, 11 a.m.
Murrieta Valley vs. Alta Loma, 3 p.m.

Thursday's Results
Claremont 10, Northview 7
Ayala 3, Crescenta Valley 1
Bonita 9, Murrieta Valley 3

I have some knuckleheads who are making it their life to do nothing but constantly try to ruin every thread, and frankly they're just tiring, the levels they're going to is amazing. So, I'll release comments individually for a while. Heck, maybe this will work better, I don't know.

Curious, GRI, if this is how you want it, I won't allow your comments at all.

Tyson-

That is why everyone was wondering if Amat was playing in the Glendora tournament this year. It was because half-pint told tournament officials that he wasn't playing if he was going to have to face Northview. Apparently, Amat players caught wind of this and told him that they wanted to play. But he still didn't want to face Northview. Why wold you though when your best four offensive players from last year are gone. So don't ever believe half-pint's lies about Northview not wanting to face Amat. That's simply not the truth.

tyson said:

Interesting,
I couldn't agree more with you on NV-Amat, but the "little birdie" definately requested "no mas" with Northview. Half Pint, Flat tire, dwarf, and whatever other names they use for him over there doesn't want to play. He can tell his players different, but it's bs. Why would Glendora coach Dan Henley not put these two against each other? The last two games of the tournament would be packed and this being a fundraiser for Glendora High School, don't tell me that money doesn't matter. There is a specific reason the two teams are not playing because "little birdie" asked Henley not to play. Ask Henley if NV asked to play Amat.

Fred,
Your polls and words already contradicting themselves. Amat loses a game 11-10 and you keep them #2 and now you've already said the Glendora Tournament winner is #1 next week. Ok, that being said, Northview wins today against Diamond Ranch and finishes 3-1 in the tournament, they lose that spot potentially to Bonita, who they beat in the tournament? How does that make sense? Even your counterpart Steve Ramirez commented on how rankings work at college level etc... that you don't bump teams usually because of one loss, esp. in tournament play. Northview got beat 10-7 in a crackerjack box park with their #4 or #5 pitcher. That matters. I didn't care about Amat staying #2 with a loss, although it came with Zuniga, their #2 pitching, so it was a little bigger and than they had to rally way back to beat Charter Oak, so it wasn't a one game slip, but anyways, I think you putting a lot of stock on one tournament without looking into it very well. Glendora also has been playing jello competition so far and benefitted from the home team bracketing. I wish Glendora well, but it's been a soft schedule so far. You have to look at everything, instead of knee jerk reactions. You judge a team with their #1 or 2 on the mound, not 4's and 5's.

Fred,

You took this all too personal. Sure you write the blogs but if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. Do you think TMZ or Perez Hilton would be deleting posts. Fred I do believe "US" as a community have made the blog what it is. Our input good or bad has substance. We Thank you and especially Aram for this blog. I actually know somebody that is thinking about starting a new blog in the SGV area. Fred think about "Craigslist" how much money did the Tribune, LA Times and Recycler lose on free Classifieds. This is cyberworld and no I am not GRI. So Fred the balls in your court but if you keep deleting the right of speech good or bad you might be looking for a job like some of us.

Damien baseball hasnt done jack in years and if my memory serves me correctly they WON their preseason tournament last year over Covina with Pill kid. That led to a playoff appearance and a first round exit. Let's see if Leyva even makes the playoffs this year. I doubt it. Furthermore, he was handed Lighthouse, Garcia, and Amerheim. Lets see what he does with his OWN kids. This years frosh, if he even stays around long enough to see them through. If past history means anything, he'll probably run from damien in a couple years and be the asst as Claremont McKenna. lol

It's interesting to note that the Glendora coach won't schedule any games for his team at Henderson Field during the daytime. He schedules himself there at night. There is a huge difference at that field between day and night games. The ball doesn't carry very well at night and in a way, off-setting the fact it's a little league field. I can't believe this is the same guy that won't match up Northview- Amat. He had the opportunity to match these two teams on opening might and didn't do it then either. Sounds like he's got a little birdie in his ear telling him what to do. (and I do mean "little" birdie... aka half-pint) Imagine the money the tournament has lost by not pitting these two CIF champions against one another like he did last year when Charter Oak- Amat played.

burp, fart or lift a leg don't matter when you're winning said:

whitey here's the funny thing about recent damien parents because i don't think the alumni are guilty of this, now that leyba is winning and gross is apparently doing his thing the spartans are winning and players are inspired, the pit is out in force and the whining has completely stopped probably cuz the best players are on the field now and the subs aren't scrubs but intergral parts of the whole team.

yet anyone who questioned playing time, quality of coaches or anything else was a whiner, a hater or their kid sucked! then the truth came out and the boozers were outed apparently without penalty, the kids were made to straighten up again apparently without so much as a slap on the wrist and the man in charge was shown to have been sleeping with one eye open yet wasn't replaced...and now everything is coming up roses?

maybe the same will happen when football players put on the pads and the games get under way and hopefully damien starts competing again. i just wonder how long it will be before morrison's backers start praising gano and his staff's "drills I've never seen before" and coaching upgrades and "increased little johnnie commitment"...that will be music to my ears.

i'll let bygones be bygones because in the end the kids come out on top and get to compete with their friends and have special memories of their high school years but somewhere i still cringe everytime i hear a damien blogger come on here and wax lyrically about the fine job leyba is doing

and just think...chicago had that stupid cow that knocked over the lantern to start a fire while all damien baseball got was an empty freezer and a couple of beer breathe butt kissers to thank.

Damien loses 3-2.

It was a great game. Yucaipa is the real deal. Whitehouse got off to a shaky 1st inning but recovered and did a fine job the rest of the way. I am convinced after watching the game that the Spartans can play with anyone. They are deep in pitching and the bats are coming around. This was a loss, but to a quality team. Damien is going to have a fine season. Stay healthy boys. Spartan fans, keep the faith.

GO Damien!!

Gross and Leyva(who are obviously the coaching ELITE in the SGV)

Very doubtful, both are washed up from Claremont. Gross only coached until he kid left.. ONE YEAR.

WEAK Leyva couldn't handle the pressure at Claremont and ran to La Verne for cover.

Hey SGV Baseball fella, wake-up!

Read my post, I said "performance and wins". A win should not automatically increase your rankings, but if it is a high value win it should propel the team forward. A win against Yucaipa is a high value win. A win against some door mat team is a low value win. If you can't follow that logic, I can draw you a picture. Read the rest of the posts, it seems that most everyone can see the logic in what I scribe.

GO Damien!!

Murphy, and that foul mouthed player who made the last out of the game and the Northview fans were an embarassment. Enough said.

Real Fan said:

I totally understand the fundraiser aspect of it. Absolutely correct about controlling the gate and making a few bucks. True.

And the concern wasn't whether fields need to be all the smae dimension or not. But last time I checked the MLB doesn't have a "runs allowed" rule for determining the league title. Sure, teams play differently with the green monster vs. Dodger stadium. Just really weird for a big-time tournament to use three totally different field types. Wish there was some way to control the gate at an APU or something like that for the boosters.

Still a good tournament! Good luck in the final game. Not involved with this tournament one iota...just a fan.

Yeah yeah I know if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. If Zuni's homerun been called correct Amat would be playing Glendora in the championship tomorrow. That's why we all love this great game.

glendimas said:

Real Fan, how many mlb fields have the same dimensions? Henderson and the tournament are run by some great people that put in a lot of hard work. Get off your lazy, whiny butt and host your own tournament. You probably don't have time, you're to busy making excuses for not being in the championship game.

FredJ said:

I'll ask Henley when I see him tomorrow, but I talked to Murphy and he said he asked to play Bishop Amat. That's coming straight from the coaches mouth. Murphy went on to say that he thought the community would want to see it and that it would be great for the tournament.

Check the facts said:

Fred,

Why don't you give Dan Henley a call and find out just how bad Northview wanted to plat Amat. You will be surprised by the answer. What happened to anytime anyplace?

Spartan fan;
If Yucaipa throws either Davidson or Martin, you may be in for a long day. On the other hand if you beat them, you would have a good argument for the top spot.

It's the first week, patience, we are covering Bonita softball for the second time today, and Bonita baseball in tomorrow's championship. If you were me and scheduling games, wouldn't you have scheduled Northview yesterday with a championship game at stake? I didn't know until this morning that Bonita won the tiebreaker.

bhs said:

never anything in the paper about bonita, plowman hits another bomb at his future home apu, the back into the championship and nothing about bonita, fred get off ur knees for northview and amat there are more then those two in the valley

Don said:

For the guy who apparently wants to move the Glendora tourney to Comerica Park so the boys can play on a “real” field:

Short answer is the teams compete on the same field so what's the big deal? Just pray for some pop fly HR's for your guys in the “band box”.

Real answer is it's a fund raiser for the Glendora Baseball community and they can (more or less) control the gate, charge $3, and enjoy the revenue of the snack bar without paying a local college. That's why they call it the Glendora Tournament and not the worldchampionshipofbraggingrights forthenexttwelvemonthsinthefreakinbloguntileveryoneissickofyou Tournament.

Will Jones said:

Are you kidding the Damien vs Yucaipa game today is Cif championship caliber. The winner of that game should be #1 in their respective region. DHS is going to be pack with their pit today and the t-birds are not use to that sort of intensity.... The poor parents of the Spartans are going to be beside themselves when Caroll's guy goes to 4-0. Have I mentioned that Caroll is an AD genious....

Real Fan said:

Too bad they're playing at that ridiculous excuse for a high school field. Hey Glendora, your softball team called and complained Henderson's fences are too short. What a joke.

PLAY AT A REAL FIELD

Why wouldn't the games be at the high school? Do the Glendora boys need a short porch to feel better? Do they need mommy and daddy serving slushies and nachos 10 feet away to feel comfortable? What a mess. Runs allowed? What a joke. Look at where these games are played? Runs allowed should not even be considered when 3 fields are used, and they're all so different. What a joke.

whitey said:

if Glendora is number 1, it should be with an * because they "somehow" dodged Amat? and had the easier bracket, Bonita couldn't beat Northview and backed into the Championship game, Northview still has as much claim to #1, and I am an Amat guy! but watch out for Damien, Gross and Leyva(who are obviously the coaching ELITE in the SGV) will polish and tune all the talent that has lingered(Moskos , Liebel,Pertusati,Carter et al) there recently, they just might be the real deal!,

Good point Spartan, I will.

DAMIEN GET SERIOUS!!!! YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOUR WORTH. JUST AS YOU THINK BECAUSE YOU WIN YOU SHOULD BE MOVED UP -- EVEN WHEN YOU LOSE IT DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY KNOCK YOU DOWN. BE SERIOUS AND TRY BEING UN-BIASED YOURSELF.

Spartan Fan said:

Not to take anything away from Glendora or Bonita, but when Damien beats Yucaipa, Damien should go from 3 to 1 in the rankings. F.Robledo, you really need to think about what you put in print because to insinuate that the winner of the Glendora Tourney will be #1 shows bias on your part. Let the games be played, then base your rankings on performance and wins. Think about it!
