Wrestling: CIF State Championships - Day 2

Above: Northview's Matt Lopez battles Fresno Edison's Rykeem Yates in a 215-pound preliminary bout earlier in the CIF State wrestling championships at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield.
Good morning all:
I just arrived at Rabobank Arena for the final day of the CIF State wrestling tournament.
Our area has five competitors still alive, four of which are in the semifinals.
La Habra's Aaron Le Farge just got knocked out the tournament. He lost by fall in the consolation fifth round by Sean Silva of Barstow.
The remaining four are Northview's Steven Salinas (119) and Frank Martinez (130), California's Matt Melendrez (145) and Santa Fe's Nikolai Crouch (189). I will update how they do today in the comments section.
Ready, set....rassle!

Great wordpress blog here.. It's hard to find quality writing like yours these days. I really appreciate people like you! take care and see you soon
We will have fun...the boys are extra excited about going.
But not looking forward to the drive.
NVMom:
Thank you. No, I won't be in Fresno. Our coverage usually ends with the state championships.
The senior nationals are in virgina beach, va. and are are scheduled Apr. 3-5
If you talking about the frosh/soph state. im sure they will not be covering that. ANYONE that is a freshman or sophmore can wrestle there. You dont need to earn your spot like the wrestlers from these pass few weekends. Its open to everyone. Have fun
Steve I just caught up on all the blogs. Great job covering this event.
There is another tournament in 2 weeks up in Fresno will you be covering that as well?
Do you happen to know when is Nationals? and where they are taking place?
Steve, Great job covering wrestling all season long I hope you cover it next season!
Nikolai Crouch lost by fall to Ian Daube in the 189 final. He was pinned with 13 seconds left in the first...and that's it from Bakersfield. I hope you enjoyed it.
Northview's Steven Salinas lost 11-2 to Liberty's David Klingsheim in the 119 final. Salinas looked to be the agressor, but was thwarted at every opportunity, trailing 4-1 after the first period and 7-1 after two rounds.
Salinas took 2nd place. GOOD JOB SCUBA!!! BEST OF LUCK AT NATIONALS!
Hey Steve. Can you put under the picture who it is of. Thanks!
I'm back; sorry but internet was down, then had to watch some medal round action.
Santa Fe's Nikolai Crouch advanced to the finals at 189, holding off two moves from River Valley's Jesus Chavez in the final 20 seconds to win, 3-2.
Northview's Frank Martinez lost in the fifth-place match at 130. He appeared to get a revese in the final seconds, but it was waved off and he lost, 5-3 to Martin Luther King's Daniel Horcasitas.
California's Matt Melendrez finished fourth at 145 after losing 4-3 to Sultana's Cody Bollinger in the third-place match.
So now we have our two finalists - Northview's Steven Salinas and Santa Fe's Nikolai Crouch.
You mean Cody lost.. who did he lose to
Bollinger vs Melendrez for 3rd place. Both lost in the semi's & will face off for 3rd.
No he is not. Matt last his last match so now he is going for 3rd.. Cody is still undefeated so he is going for 1st place.
Is Melendrez gonna wrestle Bollinger?
Cal's Matt Melendrez, at 145, just dropped a 4-0 decision to Clovis' Scott Sakaguchi, who is ranked No. 1 in the state. Melendrez, ranked No. 8, drops into the third-place semifinals.
Northview's Steven Salinas advanced to tonight's finals with a 15-13 victory in overtime over Turlock's Fabian Garcia. He was up 10-3 before falling behind 11-10, but rallied and used a takedown eight seconds into OT to win. He appeared to pass out after a move by Garcia tied it at 13, but recovered to win. I talked to the Northview coaches and Salinas will be OK for tonight.
Frank Martinez lost 9-0 to Selma's Jose Mendoza in a 130-pound semifinal. He drops down to the third-place semifinals. I will have more of Cal's Matt Melendrez at 145 and Santa Fe's Nikolai Crouch, at 189, in their semifinal matches.
