Friday’s Wilson-Charter Oak update: The Wilson High School baseball team has been a pest against area heavyweights. Wilson, winners of just eight games last year, were expected to rebuild under first-year coach Gary Libby, but after knocking off Glendora tournament champion Bonita 4-3 on April 3, the Wildcats defeated Northview tournament champion Charter Oak 3-2 in eight innings on Wednesday, and were hoping to deal the Chargers another setback on Friday. The Wildcats kept themselves in position to pounce for most of the game, but the Chargers scored four runs in the sixth inning to break it open, winning 7-2 heading into a crucial home-and-home series next week with Bonita. Charter Oak improved to 13-6 and 5-2 with Bonita a half game ahead in the Miramonte League at 14-4 and 6-2. Bonita defeated Diamond Ranch on Wednesday, 7-2. The Wildcats are not far back, dropping to 11-6 and 3-3.

Thursday’s Wrap
Sierra League
: Once again, it looks like the Sierra League race could come down to the final week after Damien’s 6-3 win over Glendora, making both teams 5-4 in the Sierra along with Diamond Bar (5-4), a 9-3 winner over Ayala. All three teams are two games back of Chino (7-2), a 9-4 winner over Chino Hills. With Chino Hills (3-6) and Ayala (2-7) trailing and Chino pulling away, it is looking like one of our big three, Glendora, Damien or Diamond Bar, will not make the playoffs.
Montview League: Sierra Vista followed its thrilling 11-innings 6-5 victory over Azusa on Tuesday with a sweep over the Aztecs, winning 5-3 to improve to 12-5 and 7-1. La Puente kept pace with a 5-0 win over Workman, improving to 12-6 and 7-1. Gladstone (13-3, 4-2) remained in the race with a 11-4 win over Duarte.
Valle Vista League: San Dimas (15-3, 9-0) remained undefeated in the Valle Vista with a 12-0 win over Covina. Northview finished off its sweep with Baldwin Park, winning 8-4 to improve to 13-4 and 7-1, leaving the 1 1/2 games back of San Dimas heading into next week’s home-and-home showdown.
