Baseball Polls: Back to reality, CIF has it just like we do, Bishop Amat and Northview on top
Isn't this how it's supposed to end up in Division IV, with Bishop Amat and Northview meeting in the biggest and most anticipated game in San Gabriel Valley history? Am I getting carried away by asking that? Anyway, as long as they stay on top of the polls, they will meet in the title game. Oh wait, San Dimas is No. 3, leads the VVL, and is certainly good enough to spoil it all. I'm not hating Saints, you can beat either team and they know it. Bonita (3), South Hills (4) and Charter Oak (8) are in the mix in Division III and Gladstone joins the party in Division V, checking in at No. 7. Someone will have to explain the Division II rankings, Chino (No. 6) is the only Sierra team listed, but Arcadia (whom Glendora promptly beat in their own tournament) is No. 7. It must be that tough Pacific League, right? Those games against Muir, Pasadena, Burbank and Burroughs are so darn tough (extreme sarcasm). It's unfair that the Sierra is getting punished for being tough from top to bottom.

Shouldn't Glendora be ranked in Division II?
Division II - 1. El Toro, 2. Yucaipa, 3. Upland, 4. Notre Dame, 5. Palos Verdes, 6. Chino, 7. Arcadia, 8. Crespi, 9. San Luis Obispo, 10. Vista del Lago.
Division III - 1. Beckman, 2. Gahr, 3. Bonita, 4. Hemet, 5. South Hills, 6. Alhambra, 7. Downey, 8. Charter Oak, 9. Ocean View, 10. Knight.
Division IV - 1. Bishop Amat, 2. Northview, 3. San Dimas, 4. El Segunodo, 5. La Quinta, 6. Palm Desert, 7. Fullerton, 8. Anaheim, 9. Monrovia, 10.
Torrance.
Division V - 1. San Jacinto, 2. Santa Ynez, 3. Marantha, 4. Campbell Hall, 5. Downey Calvary Chapel, 6. Linfield Christian, 7. Gladstone, 8. Woodcrest Christian, 9. Don Bosco Tech, 10. Aquinas.

Parity means parity and talent means talent.
Spartan Fan I agree with you the Sierra League is tough but why are they tough. Parity means everyone is about of equal talent and coaching ability but that has nothing to do with nothing.
How many SL players are the next level guys and how many SL teams can compete for a one game matchup.
This year's Damien team is no better than last years, in fact last year's had talent galore but got smoked 20plus to nada in the playoffs....in the first round! Yet this year's team seems to "believe" they can win every game, compete with any one and have their sights set higher than most recent Spartan teams.
Coaching matters and if Damien is able to finally hire great coaching...not good coaching and certainly not "friends of friends" coaching than yes Damien will pull away from the Sierra League pack.
Today Damien faces a good test against Glendora...when teams measure themselves AGAINST Damien then you're on to something. Is anyone in the SL doing that in any sports other than soccer, swimming, water polo, golf and band?
Never really believed the Sierra League is as competitive as some Dads say. I only base that on their playoff records of late. Maybe some of these Dads need to go to other schools practices to see why Damien is what it has been recently.
The excuse that your "league" beats you up never holds water. The best teams never believe that...at least that's not what I was taught...we just ran out of time. When I coached a tough game against a tough opponent I told my team...they were ready to break...we ran out of time...the next time we meet up again we'll break them early...and then we'll pound them out and make them realize we were always the better team. If the opponent was truely better I put it on myself and said I would figure them out and we'll practice smarter...either way we were always ready to win and never believed we would lose.
This second round of games down the stretch really are Damien's time to pound out a statement of who they will be from here on in. Damien has the coaching now, they've always had the talent as I've said for years...now all they have to do is believe they are the cream of the crop and the Sierra League ALWAYS goes thru them.
I never believed in parity because it allows players, parents and coaches an excuse for not playing like Champions.
Hey that's my opinion...that's the way I was taught and that's the way I expect Damien to think. Loyola, Mater Dei, Long Beach Poly, De La Salle always take the field knowing the will win...Hey look at what Bishop Amat did against LB Poly? Championship teams make adjustments and never quit...what did Poly do after that Lancer scare? Anyone know? Competition hardens Championship teams...and doesn't break teams down. Who started that line of thinking at Damien?
Glendora is first...we'll see. Go Damien!!!
Spartan Fan,
Love your enthusiasm but the first team from the SA is number 4 Glendora in Fred's poll and only Chino ranked in the top 10 in CIF . It just seems to me if they are that tough and good they should be ranked higher and have a few more teams in the CIF
Reality,
Ok, great. What does that have to do with what I'm saying? I don't care about last year or even ten years ago. Right now! The Sierra League is the toughest league around. The talent pool in the league is unimpeachable. Live for today buddy, find a league with as much parity and talent that the SL has and then we can talk. What do you say my fellow Sierra League brethren?
GO Damien!!
I think the top league this year goes to the Marmonte league in the Simi Valley area. Each team has a SS going to D1 school and many others. The Sierra league is tough but not the best. The Big 8 with Norco, R. Poly is tough. The Moore league is always tough. The Trinity league is always tough.
spartan fan, you didnt answer my question. How many cif titles has the sierra league won in the last 10 years? I got your answer : ZERO

Reality,
Yes! All of So. Cal. This year the SL is stacked. We have teams that can play with anyone. You are caught up in the OC mystique. DBar beat some of the best of OC and I don't believe they will win the SL. There is not a league in the SGV or So. Cal(that I know of) that comes close to the competition level of the SL. The problem is that our teams may enter CIF beat up because the SL is so tough. No excuse just reality.
GO Damien!!
To Reality:
Baseball in the OC is overated. Amat went into the OC and went 4-0 against the OC. One by one they fell. Servite, Orange Lutheran, Santa Margarita and Cypress. I doubt any team from the OC will be wanting to plat Amat anytime soon.
Spartan fan,
all of socal??? lol
u have heard of baseball in oc right? and how many cif titles has the sierra produced?? lol
u parents that absolutely have no clue. i just couldnt let this one go

Ken Huth,
What the HELL are you talking about, your rambling rants that make absolutely no sense!
fred.my buddy .not really can i call you a friend.we dont hang out .thats a friend...tell it like it is..amat i have alot of respect for the school.went out and got a nice baseball coach, andy maybe you were right for now ..but in the long run. dont think so..my son k.c. had to go three exert rounds to beat amat 152 weight class wrestler this year to make c.i.f as a soph.hes a real stud.dont give a rats ass about all you front runners, hes leading the league in hitting. but for now not enough at bats..i would hate to be a s.s or 2b, with k.c. on first, grond ball your going to get stuffed.thats how you play the game fred...we will win the ring..the peices are all coming together..time will tell good night.haters
If they don't think I do enough, they can go read other high school blogs, right?
Fred what kind of answer is that! Just because you're not getting paid is no excuse for not covering this story. Maybe if you put in the extra effort to pre-write the story. When you find out who won you'd just fill in the blanks. Better yet instead of writing a story you can't cover on your days off write a story about the players that has nothing to do with winning and losing. Do whatever it takes to validate the players with photos, bios, human interest stories or some other angel. What ever it takes...just please somehow get something on paper that parents can brag about. How cares if less people are buying newpapers, less adverizers are buy space and newspaper giants are crumbling...just cover every story until no one has any complaints.
Geeeeezzzzzzz Fred...what's so hard about that?
Fred you never win do you?
Fred I do have a question for you MIguel and Steve...okay even Aram...who "gets it" worst? The writers on the East side or the West side?
Now that would be interesting?
That's because they can only afford us five days a week, and the one staffer we had available Saturday was at Mt. SAC giving our track people their due.
fred
I know you guys have a lot to do but i was suprised no one covered the LA game vs Bonita on saturday,as i posted on another thread LA beat Bonita 3-2 in 8 innings. there were 18 scouts there, also a note on the LA baseball team, there numbers 1,2,and 4 hitters are freshman,
as you know im an LA supporter but i wouldnt be on here if i thought they didnt deserve a mention, still as of today no mention of that game.there record is not that good but there losses include, 2009 2008

theses games alone app. record 114-54
sorry for the rambling but a very good and (very young )team.
The worst thing about it Spartan Fan is that some very good Sierra teams won't be in the playoffs.
Chino was beat by Damien Saturday night(Brian Hamilton Tourney), 7-5, at Chino HS in front of a home crowd. It was standing room only and Damien had their sophomore lefty, Gonzales, on the mound. The kid did well. It was a great game, Garcia and G.Ortega hit bombs and E. Lewis played a terrific game. I guess the rankings came out before the game started(sarcasm). We will see where the Sierra League is in the final CIF rankings. Toughest league in the SGV east/west and maybe So.Cal. Stay healthy and God Bless.
GO Damien!!
