Baseball Rankings: Bishop Amat holds steady, but San Dimas is knocking on the door

| | Comments (21) |

Baseball top ten rankings
1. Bishop Amat (16-5) - The CIF-SS Division IV's top-ranked Lancers split a pair last week, losing to Long Beach Wilson then beating Lakewood, 12-6. Are they still the area's best team? Yes, but it's getting closer.
2. San Dimas (15-3) - - This is where we disagree with the Division IV polls. We think San Dimas deserves to be ahead of Northview because of their head-to-head win over the Vikes. Of course, that could all change this week in the much antcipated head-to-head series with the Vikings.
3. Northview (13-4) - We will find out what the Vikings are made of this week. Did competing in the National Classic prepare them for the must-win games they face this week and down the line in the playoffs? We're about to find out.
4. Bonita (14-4) - By this time of year I expected the Bearcats to be crushing teams and running away with the Miramonte League title. It hasn't happened, and another loss against a so-so Los Altos team makes you wonder. But hey, on paper you can't argue with this group.
5. Glendora (13-6) - After a split with Diamond Bar and Damien, I still think the Tartans are the best of the three, but it's so close. The Tartans impressive run in reaching the final of their own tournament and winning the Arcadia tournament will pay dividends down the stretch.
6. Damien (15-5) - How impressive has new coach Leyva been? They beat a very good Chino team and split with Glendora, leaving them in a three-way tie for second with Glendora and Diamond Bar. This race will continue to go back and forth until the end.
7. Charter Oak (13-6) - Losing Tiffany, their shorstop/pitcher and captain, is going to hurt. The Chargers were one of those teams that couldn't afford injuries, so I'm guessing this plays a big role in the home-and-home against Bonita this week.
8. South Hills (12-7) - The Huskies closed out the week with a 6-2 loss to Alemany. They still lead the San Antonio, but the question of late is what's happening with pitcher Jacob Shirley? He was declared ineligible when the season started, but his appeal should be heard any day now.
9. Diamond Bar (11-8) - The Brahmas are at No. 9 for now but can jump and jump quick if they go on a run the final two weeks. They can play with anyone and get beat by anyone. Either way, it sure is fun to watch.
10. Nogales (16-7-1) - There are two kinds of Nobles teams, the one when Andrew Melchor pitches, and the average Nobles when he doesn't. The one with Melchor can beat anyone, which is going to make them a dangerous playoff opponent.

Did you know: That San Dimas center fielder Tim Brookes had a game for the history books. In a 20-4 win over Covina, Brookes hit two grand slams and finished with nine RBIs, which was the most RBIs in a single game in more than 20 years. His nine RBIs ties him with Rio Hondo Prep's Jim Key (1977) and Don Lugo's Bob Malins (1978) for second all-time in the CIF-SS record books for RBIs in a single game. Only Calvary Baptist's Eddie Martinez had more, setting the record with 11 in 1977.

Congrats to Frank Jr.!

Hope you didn't drive home from the sports bar that night after throwing back a few. That would be irresponsible. Plus, I thought you only drink at home. Guess I must have missed your point again. Or maybe you just changed it to suite your current needs. Or maybe you didn't have one. Not sure.

Your style is what it is. Mostly B.S. You expose your lack of insight time and again by your comments. Anyway, bygones are bygones.

Peace.

Fred Loves Frank,

I'm sorry you feel that way. I will take responsibility went I respond to some moron who either attacks me personally or takes swipes at my kids without any foundation or regard to decency. Do I go over the top, sure. Do I get mad, sure. Do I say things I might regret, sure. Do I call Fred and ask him to take things down, no. Sorry I'm a lot of things but I won't "help" people by asking Fred to "take things down...I figure this...maybe one day the "blog" itself will say enough is enough! It's like "guests" who fart at the dinner table and say..."what? ...it's just nature?...what?"

I mean when people condone vandalism..what can you say? For your information, anything I've said I either have already said to the person in question or would. The other day randy went on his foul mouthed rant and started talking smack. I went to the db-chin game to talk to him in person. I figure most bloggers really wouldn't talk so bold in person but than on the other hand maybe in person we would both remember why we were friends. Maybe soon. Either way I'm not opposed to meeting with you or anyone else...just to hash out our differences. I mean ..what are you going to do...kill me? Get in line, lol!

Before you exercise your blog right and say you're entitled to your opinion ask yourself if you were so sure about your moral footing why wouldn't you either talk to me at school, around town, ask for my number or email from Fred and just talk it out....or sign your name? I mean is it really necessary for you to silence my voice? Really...necessary?

I'm long winded, opinionated, a bully and maybe allot more...but I never threatened kids with physical violence, never said outrageous lies about their conduct, never spread rumors of their drug use, never had a few in the parking lot, never vandalized anyone's property, never said I would beat the crap out of someone "using" a total stranger's name as cover, never punished a player because I disagreed with their father and never attacked anyone....just because "you" supported them.

Joey brings up a great point last night on another thread..

"never argue with an idiot, he'll beat you with experience!'

I took that to heart thinking..."well it can't ALWAYS be the OTHER GUY!"

I've had my beefs with Morrison and his lower level coaches and some of teh Damien Dads but...they are all gone in less than 30 days. I get along with everyone else so why argue? I might not agree with Dunn's actions and coaching hires but..really who cares? My son is an outstanding individual and solid basketball player...so we'll see. Coach Phillips is what he is and nothing I ever said about him either one of us would say isn't true. Should he be let go...without question...will he be let go...who cares. If his words and actions are condoned on Damien soil...what can I say? I said my peace and sleep well at night knowing I never lied about him and he knows it.

Those that love to hate me might just be non Damien bloggers looking for a rise...and that's not fair to the Damien community...which my sons love. My youngest son won Academic Awards for Science, Honors Chemistry and Forensics last night, top five in his class of almost 250+. He's a great kid but I'm sure someone will come on here and say "HE SUCKS!!!!" or worse.

I always wondered one thing my friend. If I irritate you...is that my problem or yours? If I go on and on about whatever and it bothers you...is that your problem or mine? Every blogger has their style...I have mine...so why is that Fred's problem.

I had a friend who every time we went out started something with some one..every time. Finally, I had enough. I was at a sports bar and noticed this guy looking pretty pissed. There was 15 of us on one side of the bar and this lone guy on the other side. I look over at my friend and he's mad dogging this guy...all fierce face and all. My friend is 5'8" 130 and the other guy's about my size!!!. I look at the guy and he looks at me and I scream over the rail...

"Hey Dude!! This guy isn't with us...if you want to kick the crap out of him...GO AHEAD!!!!! BE MY GUEST!!! WE DON'T KOW HIM...AND IF WE DO...WE DON'T LIKE HIM...HE'S ON HIS OWN!!!! I WON'T STOP YOU!!!!...HE DOES THIS ALL THE TIME!!!! SO HAVE AT IT !!!!"

We both laughed....my friend tells me..."you embarrased me!" ..."No!, I said, "YOU EMBARRASSED YOURSELF!!!" I called the waitress over and sent the guy a free pitcher of beer....and my friend paid for it.

Maybe it's time ...me . you...and everyone else to ...STOP EMBARRASSING OURSELVES AND LOOKING FOR REASONS TO ARGUE"

Just look at my posts. It does take me a long time to get to my ppoint doesn't it? There does seem to be allot of moralizing and story telling doesn't there....Is that so bad..I mean so bad...as to stare me down? I'll try this....I won't response to any bloggers who disagree with me, no matter what you say, and see how many times bloggers will do the same...fair enough?

Joey...thanks for the tip....if a "friend" can't tell you "you when you're making an ass out of yourself..who can?"

Best advice I've had in four years. Well..here's to "hope..and better days on the blog!!!"

Sorry it took so long.

Peace!

Why protect the blog bully only?

You let this situation fester for nearly a week, and when you do at last decide to take action you side with the primary source of the garbage on the blog. Are you really that blind?

Keep indulging the man and the blog will continue to be the dumpster fire that it is.

Way to be a professional Fred.

Three differences between us, of many I'll mention only these:

1) I sign my name before and after I was outed and never changed my message regardless of my kids playing time. whether it was Mean Machine or Damien Dad everyone knew who I was and somehow I'm still here and actually doing better and you have been shown the door along with all the other wanna bees "greats".

2) When people talk about alma maters they are talking about tradition are they not? 32 years after I graduated Salesian had a show down with Baldwin Park, a great soccer team with even greater aspirations. Salesian bloggers and Alumni always conducted themselves with class and distinction. After the game 'our" Coach took the time to blog a message for all to read. He spoke of their courage, their discipline and their honor. He spoke of "our" shared experience and "our" brotherhood in the name of the "beautiful game"...he also shared "our" common pain in coming so close while extending a word of congratulations for their soon to come "Championship"...And then he congratualted the Baldwin Park community for their fine sons and outstanding fan support.

IN THE FOUR YEARS I'VE READ THIS BLOG THAT MIGHT BE THE NICES THING ANYONE HAS EVER SAID ABOUT BALDWIN PARK...and that's a shame!

Salesian lost "4" starters in that game! No one complained about fair play or anything else because it took EVERYTHING to beat that team...maybe even another State Championship. That's class and you don't need ANY THREE STRIPES TO TELL THE WORLD WHAT CLASS IS! We must have ties to Missouri because at Salesian it...SHOW ME DON'T TELL ME !

You bring up Taylor and I see you are as non-Christian as they come...but like I said before....cancers fester...and whether they are small or melon sided tumors they are always cancers. Salesian and Taylor share that truth...time and opinion doesn;t define them...ACTIONS DO. OVER TIME TAYLOR HAS SHOWN HIMSELF TO BE A SPECIAL INDIVIDUAL...YOU SIR, AND THOSE LIKE YOU, HAVE SHOWN YOURSELVES TO BE A VERY VINDICTIVE AND COWARDLY CROWD/CANCER...AND IT LEAD TO MORRISON'S DISMISSAL.

3) The time will come when a "sea change" hits Damien. I see evidence of it every day with this new batch of Damien Dads. The Freshmen class at Damien is exceptional. They have leaders, great chemistry and a willingness to work and never lose sight that school is suppose to be fun but hard work makes Champions. You kind is being shown the door but you're too caught up in trying to hold on to your own failed "era".

When I step foot on Salesian soil I see the foundation built by great men and women...it's not the priest and teachers that make Salesian special...it's our sense of Family...it's everywhere you look and in everything we do.

I hope Salesian scheduled Damien sometime soon. Maybe seeing "US" up close and personal you'll see why you are seriously exposing yourself as a disgrace with every word.

Take the stripes off sir...you lack any honor, integrity or distinction...and you know it or else you would not hide like a coward...do COWARDS WEAR STRIPES? ...ONLY IN PRISON.

Frank C,

Love your anger...go ahead and stand by the kid (everyone makes a mistake sometime!)

The reason he dropped off most college lists was simple...won't go over the middle, didn't block when required and most of all - poor attitude (thus the Cancer label). There are a ton of high school players that can catch and run, but the intangibles listed above are what moves a kid above everyone else.

3 Stripes Frank...That's what matters on the DHS field. If you can't live by them, then I have no respect for you.

But in the end Frank, I'm just some drunk parent that smokes dope in the parking lot on game night, yells and screams at the coaches and then blogs on Monday morning about things I know nothing about...JUST LIKE YOU!

Good Day Sir!

Frank C,
On handling the sucess of Hags this past season and I am sure Joe will concour. Sit back and smile knowing it will only get better. From what has been said by the LA fans and seeing proof on their roster Gano will have to change his style of getting upperclassmen transfers to fill holes where the student body lacks. Damien does have solid athletes but let's see what kind of developer of talent Gano truely is and if he is capable of doing just that with the talent he has at Damien. As was said about us before this season that our linemen were to small and were going to be over matched by the teams we faced but look how they turned out, Hags and staff did one hell of a job getting the most out of them. One tough thing that has to be sold to the players is the pride and tradition in being a Spartan which maybe will be a hard sell for Gano since he doesn't have that in his blood where as Hags does.As the saying coaching matters but in our case Hag's history with AMAT was the intangible that really carried us to achieve what we did last season.

What, what what ?

No greater example of the hypocrites that slither on their bellies on Damien soil. You are a perfect example , for everyone to see, of the blatant and disgusting vileness that has made the Damien blogging machine the worst of any. You ask for me not to write so "others' wouldn't behave inappropriate and then call Taylor a cancer when he was anything but.

Maybe you need to examine what you think a cancer is. A cancer smokes dope in the parking lot before games, engineers ways to single out a player with more talent in their finger and more heart in their toe than most on that team. Cancers have a way of being cancers all their careers! Taylor was an extremely admired and respected player until this year when most players on that team came in fat, slow and out of shape expecting to start over a junior class that is better, quicker, faster and hungier. and that's a fact. Jealousy is what has been Taylor's undoing. Overbearing Dads has been this classes undoing.

Here's a tip my un-Christian friend....stop !

I praised Taylor for his accomplishments and admire his interactions with me and then sign my name... you sir choose a different path and seek to scapegoat a poorly coached team who had under prepared players. Taylor became Morrison's personal whipping boy. Is it any wonder Taylor was on several colleges minds and then suddenly disappeared. You can teach a player to catch...you can't teach speed like that!!!!

I think I know who you but the senior class was made up of solid citizens from Reyes (not a Captain but a two year startere) to Salter to Oakafor (who should have started for 4 years but didn') to Madueno (who should have seen much more action) to many others but instead was lead by players who's Dads were so up Morriosn's butt it's a miracle they don't carry around Handiwipes to wipe off their noses

maybe you should ask a quality citizen like Oakafor what he thought of his time on the football team. Maybe you should ask parents who don't hang with the "in" crowd how they view you. You like telling everyone about me have you ever wondered what people think about your kind...you know the "in" hypocrites!

Taylor was never a cancer on that team. Anyone who thinks that only needs to look in the mirror and question their motives. It's another sad sad example for everyone to see why Morrison had to go. He feed this nonsense with his unqualified Dad coaches and his inability to build a program or at least continue what Pasquerrella gave him... two NFL signees, a load of Division 1 athletes and at least 4 professional athletes..count them!

How many teams in local history have had 6 seniors QUIT IN MIDSEASON??? Maybe Dan, Mikey, Joey, or Don have some info on that recent phenom regarding a football team...quit!? Not in my lifetime have I seen that happen!

Trust me you won't find any. ..and that tells me the locker room was filled with dissension, confusion and lacked real leadership...PLUS A WHOLE LOT OF DAD'S TELLING THER KIDS NONSENSE AND POINTING FINGERS!

You guys are too much...everything you accuse me of you do so openly you don't see the contradiction.

You sir, either owe Taylor and his family an apology or at the very least be man enough to come clean stand by your assertions.

Taylor I really sorry. Enjoy your scholarship. You "earned" it!

What, What, What? said:

Frank

Don't flatter yourself by thinking that I hate you...my Christian beliefs don't allow for it. In fact, I typically enjoy your support and passion for DHS.

I guess my problem is that I looked at the football season only and in my opinion (which I can express) is completely opposite of yours. Perhaps Mr. Hyde from the football season turned back into the charming Dr. Jeckel during other sport seasons. Maybe what I witnessed on the field (practice & games) and in the locker room ended at the end of the football season.

I simply commented on your overt praise of what was considered by many (coaches, players & parents) to be a MAJOR cancer in the program. My problem isn't with kids playing that lack talent, but with those that have all the talent in the world and do nothing with it.

Regardless of who the coach is, what the offensive & defensive schemes are, etc. that program is all about the 3 stripes on that helmet and you must conduct yourself accordingly. If you don't, then I'll question you every time.

Good day Sir!

Joey...could it be any more obvious for crying out loud?

You know Joey I once had an athlete who's Dad was a piece of work. His son was a pretty good athlete but was as hard headed as they come. When I had him I was vilified for telling him he was less than perfect. He was great kid who never understood that there are better trained and more gifted athletes out there. His dad never understood the distinction between being honest with an athlete and being "unfair".

Most Damien dads are as outstanding as their kids but there are a few sometimes don't understand that eventually their kids will have to "stand and deliver"...and that as all my posts, long winded as they may be...their "high school glory" will end!

That's the saddest part really. I see some of the worst bloggers on here and without question I can see in their face the "in told you so" that I never have to say. My kids will come out looking pretty good when all is said and done. Never a complaint from a coach, never a complaint from a fellow team mate and ultimately they made lemonaide when they were dealt lemons and came away with Damien hardware they earned on their own.

Yesterday when I ran into his Freshmen Basketball coach (1st time I've ever talked to him by the way) at the Meet I asked.. "How's my kid doing? Is he giving you any trouble?"

He said the same thing every coach tells me..."No, Not al all!!! he's a great kid! actaully he's a real hard worker and pleasuer to have on the team" I tease him some more, "Because if he's given you any trouble...just let me know"...That's when most coaches (sorry Mikey) ..."GET IT!"...I'm overstating the obvious..."they are all happy to have coachable kids that respect authority, aren't cancers, don't have inflated egos and give 100 % all the time!

And that's when I say i my mind..."I TOLD YOU SO!"

Thanks Joey...quick question..."How did you handle Hagerty's success this year?"...I might need to know IF Gano is as good as I think he'll be...should be interesting. Joey...when will people get it through their heads that COACHING MATTERS and being honest with a kid is the best thing you will ever do?

Joey BTW...that kid I coached went to Bishop Amat and essentially got cut from every team he tried out for...football was the exception...and he quit during the season. What a shame.

Frank C said:

sorry...pressed the wrong button...

Ray Lewis, who is arguably the greatest linebacker of his generation, does not do well in certain defenses....no matter how hard Ray trains...his weaknesses are exposed. So maybe you can cut Taylor some slack.

When Taylor finishes his career at Damien he might walk away as a 3X 100 Meter Champion in the tough Sierra League, not sure of his 200M accomplishments but I know he does them both. He competes across the country against even tougher competition and as recently as last year ran with Ryan McMahon in a 4X100 team that ran in National Meets.

Taylor was recruited by several schools to run Track and a few to maybe do both but I think Track might be his ticket. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo gave Taylor his ticket to a free education and I believe when all is said and done SLO will have gotten a steal!

I've spoken wit Taylor soon after he made Varsity and it's been a pleasure every single time. He is respectful, confident and very well spoken...he might consider a broadcasting career when it's all say and done. He kind of reminds me of Dwight Stones in his ability to breaks things down into it's simplest components.

I'm sure Taylor Herrera doesn't need my two cents to defend him or even pump up his name, he's earned his awards and his name in the record books with his hard work and a competitive spirit. Last year he was Track Athlete of the Year and this year is still wide open.

Have some decency sir for once and not allow yourself to ruin a good young man's reputation as you zero in on me. Aside from all of Taylor's athletic accomplishments he is a far better individual off the field. Like I said everyone has their weaknesses...and now you've clearly shown yours.

Good day sir.

The mere fact that you lay out your intentions speaks volumes to your lack of decency as a Christian and your willingness to attack me using any means necessary...even inncent bystanders.

Try and look the other way when I speak of Taylor if it causes you to a succumb to such vile. Maybe Fred or Steve or Miguel or Aram for that matter can comment on any interactions they've had with the young man.

I truely am sorry for you. Your veiled threat came across loud and clear.

Taylor has started at the Varsity wide receiver position since his sophomore year after having an exceptional freshmen season. He played safety and had many games were he clearly out classed the field. Few athletes deserve to play Varsity as Freshman but Taylor may have been the exception. Mendrun many times went to Taylor as his "out" option when Travis was being schemed.

Every athlete has a weakness, on the field, and Taylor surely had his. The trick is to either train to improve or minimize the "calls" that expose that weakness. Ray Lewis who is arguably one of

On my way to my car I realized Chino was having a Track Meet and Damien was in the house!!!

Everytime I see Damien's Track team I see athletes!!! Doc really is a God send to Damien.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think Damien, with this victory, won a league title...am I right about that?

Got to see Taylor run the "hurdles" of all things and ...the kid is just an incredible athlete and individual. I'm going to miss that kid at Damien more than any Damien athlete I've ever seen there with the exception of Freddie Brown who just carried himself like royalty...what a distinguished individual....and now an NFL signee.
