Baseball: Bishop Amat holds steady at No. 1 while San Dimas climbs to No. 2; Bonita, Nogales falling

Baseball top ten rankings
1. Bishop Amat (15-4) - The Lancers are a perfect 6-0 in the Dely Rey and No. 1 in the Division IV polls. They went 4-0 in the Anaheim Lions' tournament before losing 3-2 to a strong team from Reno, Nevada, then beat Garfield 8-0 to wrap-up a darn-good week. Considering the teams ranked directly below also lost, the Lancers stay on top.
2. San Dimas (13-3) - - The Saints swept Ganesha last week and get Covina this week before next week's mammoth home-and-home against Northview. Even though Northview lost twice, we're jumping the Saints to No. 2 based on their better record than the Vikes, and their head-to-head win.
3. Northview (11-4) - The Vikings go 2-2 in the National Classic, beating Jesuit 7-5 in their final game. Not a great showing, but a good showing, and considering they had a lead going into the sixth inning of every game, that is something to be proud of against such a prestigious field.
4. Glendora (12-5) - After beating Arcadia and pitcher Rutherford to win the Arcadia tourney, the Tartans split with Diamond Bar last week, losing 11-3 at home in the second game, which snapped a six-game win streak. It will be like that in the Sierra, where no playoff spot is guaranteed.
5. Charter Oak (12-5) - The Chargers didn't play last week, but moved into first all by themselves because of Bonita's Miramonte league loss to Los Altos. The Chargers have won five straight, and continue to gain confidence.
6. Bonita (12-4) - Don't know what to make of these recent developments. You can forgive the loss to Wilson as just being one of those things. But after losing to Charter Oak in the championship of the Northview tournament, they split with Los Altos of all teams last week, losing 3-2 after winning 7-2 earlier in the week.
7. Damien (14-4) - The Spartans won the Brian Hamilton tournament, finishing things off with a 7-5 win over Chino in the championship game. Now the fun begins, with a home-and-home against Glendora this week.
8. South Hills (12-6) - Didn't they use to own the Don Lugo tournament? Well, they didn't do so bad. After crushing Baldwin Park and losing 3-0 to Chino Hills, they bounced back with a nice 5-3 win over Monrovia to close out the tournament.
9. Diamond Bar (10-7 - You have to respect the fact the Brahmas are 4-3 in the Sierra League, locked in an early four-team race and only a game back of first after splitting with Glendora. We know they can hit, we know their pitching is so-so at times, but they compete and won't roll over against anyone.
10. Nogales (14-7-1) - The Nobles are hanging on the top ten rankings by a thread. Actually, we probably should have dropped them after losing to Diamond Ranch, Chino Hills and tying Monrovia in their last three games. But they do have credible wins on their resume and with Andrew Melchor on the mound, anything is possible.

Amat 73,
The point is simple, yes Amat did win the game BUT the same mistakes keep happening over and over again and the only thing that Nieto changes is his excuses. Changes need to be made in the outfield and the only one not able to separate his personal feeling for the betterment of the team is Nieto. Here, let me help you STOP drinking the Nieto koolaid and just try to be objective, now if you are able to accomplish this you will see that if changes are not made in the outfield it is going to cost Amat at the worst possible time.
Remember, Nieto has not won a single thing with his boys though he has won with Kendrena's boys and this the hot spur burning in Nieto's side. Say all you want about Kendrena not being able to win it all with the same boys, but remember Kendrena coached in DIVISION I against the likes of Mater Dei year in and year out and if you remember not only did he win a few CIF Championships he also won 2 National Championships.
I and have not named any names, well other than NIETO's, but I will call a spade a spade when I see it (OBJECTIVE).
I sure hope this helps, it pains me, really it does (Sarcasm), to see that the koolaid is staining your lips.
smarty.
We won the game didn't we . We got something out of the loss to Wilson which we took to the next game to win it . We are going to make errors, it's part of the game that's why they have H-E on the scoreboards . The trick is to get up wipe yourself off and get back in there. If you have no vested interest in AMAT what is your point constantly coming on here and bashing Nieto and our players. Please explain so I can get a better understanding of the point you are trying to make other that you hate Nieto and AMAT.
Amat 73,
What's this fascination with butts are you trying to tell us all something.....Now, as for your assesment that "we are a young club that learns from our mistakes", please explain to me exactly where did Nieto learn from his previous mistakes, ohhhh I know by moving the centerfielder to leftfield only to see the same things happen again (i.e, Dropping flyballs, diving for a ball when there is no need only to come up empty...AGAIN) and lets not forget to mention the play of the rightfielder who once again drops a flyball and misplays another ball, all the while neither is able to throw out a runner at any base....soooo, exactly what did your young team learn?
You can not be an Amat grad, you're too easy...DUMMY!
Hey King Butt,
How did you like that win against Lakewood. You think we took anything from that loss to Wilson . We are a young club that learns from our mistakes . Waiting for your reply.
Amat 12 Lakewood 6 Final from Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy
Amat 73,
That's it, that's the best you have - "we lost and will be better for it in the long run" oh and lets not forget the ever popular "your a snake under a rock"......tag your it.
Look dummy, you have no point....here, let me help you with what the real point is NIETO is a crappy coach and talent evaluator.
Oh, and you are absolutely correct (insert:sarcasm) my life and it's meaning is based soley on how well Amat does in sports and whenever I see that they have lost I just know that "I can make it, just one more day", I give up you found me out!
Your turn!
King Butt
My point to you was you are a typical snake under a rock. You lie in wait until you see where we lose a game and come out and strike. You must get a great deal of satisfaction when you open up your paper and see where AMAT lost a game. Just stay rooting for your team and don't worry about AMAT we will be fine. The blog is going pretty good now with good sport contributions by bloggers then some idiot like yourself comes on here with negative comments fueled by your hate for AMAT. We are a young team and still learning to play in big games as Wilson is D-1. This loss will more than likely help us to win big games in the future. You can always get something good out of a loss. You act like we were not even in the game but you bothered to check we did have an opportunity to win it but lost. So be it, we will be better for it in the long run.
Amat 73,
Are really going to hang your hat on the Lions Tourney by stating that Amat beat all those OC teams, well let me help enlighten you on how good the OC teams Amat beat actually are:
Servite 8-11 LAST PLACE (Trinity)
Orange Lutheran 13-6 3rd PLACE (Trinity)
Santa Margarita 9-10 4th PLACE (Trinity)
Cypress 12-7 2nd PLACE (California)
As you can see Servite, OLU, and Santa Margarita are really not very good and it seems that the only good win Amat had was against Cypress.
Now if you want to debate the issues that have been stated below, well than please do so otherwise STFU with the Amat beat all those OC teams.
Here's a little tidbit that you probably are unaware of with regards to your coaching genius: The left fielder had not played all year until the Lions tournament started and was buried on the depth chart, that is until it became known that he had tried out and actually was selected to the Under Armour National Team than all of a sudden he was the starter.....HHHMMMM
Coaching Genius and Expert Talent Evaluator!
Nogales 1 Walnut 0. Great pitching duel. Andrew Melchor of Nogales, and Jason Kerr of Walnut put on one of the best pitching show I have seen in a long time. It was so great the game only last 1hr and 20 min. The only thing I would done if I was Walnut is let Kerr hit, and pinch hit for the 1st baseman.
"a very average Long Beach Wilson team" for heaven sake, they play in a Div 1 league.
What division does your high school in?
Amat lost, had chances and lost. Period.
Amat seams like the average team here. Hmmm, what division are they in?
Oh! The beat up on teams, correct 45-0 CHS
When Amat and your HS team are in a real Division, and beat up on LB Wilson regularly. Then! You can call LB Wilson an average team
Until then, enjoy beating up on the lil teams.
butt,butt,and butt,
Typical hater reaction.Where you when we were tearing up the O.C. in the recent Lions tourney.Hiding under your rock just waiting for AMAT to lose a game so you could come out with the same old b.s. Don't worry about AMAT we will be fine after winning our league and on to CIF which is probably more that you can say for who you are rooting for now.

It's about time Hoff got his head out of his A--. The only change I will do is drop Clark from that pitching list. It sould like. Unlike the last 4 years Hoff finely want to make it to CIF.
This team can do it. Lots of hitters on the team.
Amat lost again and to a very average Long Beach Wilson team. Nieto had that look again the same one he displayed in the loss to Chatsworth, you know that look of I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO so I'll just lean against the fence and watch the opposing coaches outcoach me.
When you sit back and watch this team it becomes painfully clear that the sophmores in right and centerfield are not very good, the rightfielder let a ball fall in front of him all the while you could see that he was waiting in fact hoping that the senior 2nd baseman would make the play not to mention that he struck out twice he can not hit a curveball.
Now the centerfielder very fast and is a Juan Pierre type of player runs out infield hits but can not field and has no arm to throw out runners as a matter of fact he had 3 chances yesterday and did not get a single runner out at any base, not mention the ground ball through the middle that he misplayed and the ball just kept on rolling, oh and to make things worse he finally gets the ball back to the infield only to pout and throw his glove behind him 20 feet or so.
Bases loaded twice with no outs and not able to get a single run out of it. The most suprising part is that Nieto never bunted in either of those situations, go figure.
Paez pitched good, how do you lose when your starting pitcher has 10 k's and 1 BB.
Coaching genius, more like smoke and mirrors.
Matt whitehouse is a good OFF SPEED pitcher! that kind of pitcher throws off really good hitting teams the better teams have trouble staying back and driving due to the off speed. This kind of pitcher fairs well in high school but not much further.
Spartan supporter,
Glendora (W) Damien (L) move on buddy see you Thursday.
spartan supporter
know your facts dumby whitehouse was really good this year and freshman year. you didnt hear anything about him last year cause he did nothing special except for walk people...
get em on thursday,
You must be a junior parent? Maybe one of those from the football season who threw half of the senior class under the bus? Well, it doesnt look like these juniors have any leadership from what i can see. Damien's problem isnt anything about the seniors. Its the underclassmen who dont listen and have big ego's.
Leyva inherited the team two and a half weeks before the first preseason game. With the way that he runs practices, he had plenty of time to figure out who he wanted to keep/cut. He cut a few guys and went on. The guys he has on the team are on the team still because he made the choice and thinks they can contribute They arent there because of vasquez. and for all the seniors, dont worry you'll get your chance to make up next year in college for the three years that vasquez ruined the program. Ex: Just look at whitehouse. was he a stud these past three years? yeah. did vasquez pitch him? no. That dick head wouldnt know what a stud player looked like if there was one standing right there in his face. All Vasquez knew with the past teams that he coached was how to get as much as he could out of the kiss ass parents from years passed.
Good Luck Damien

The Walnut Nogales game should be a good one. Hoff should pitch Jason Kerr who has not lost a game this season. Going agains Nogales Andrew Melchor. Last time these team played Walnut won 8-7. Kerr went out in the 6th with a 8-1 lead. For somereason Hoff still has not pitch 2 of his top three pitchers. Garcia and Fagan. He need to pull his head out of his A-- and play for this year not next year.
if theres not a hunting tourney for gross to be in he might be there on thursday lol as for leyva when the iron gets hot, he gets moving. If thats true and he pulled whithouse, then he definitely choked that one. you dont have to be a second guesser to know that one. can u imagine how whitehouse must feel tonight?
Damien Fans,
It's just a game don't get so fired up. Glendora is a great team they beat you move on good luck on Thursday.
how many batters did guillen face? missed the game but it's always crazy between these too teams. a couple of years ago didn't damien come back from almost 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh with no pitching change until the winning run. that was really a hot issue with henly a few years back.
Okay Damien is 14-5 now right? Looks good to me. The pitching coach is a former Dodger. Looks good to me. Leyba has inspired the baseball program, from top to bottom. Looks good to me. And yet the stands were the usual second guessing closet artists that True Damien Fans always accuse others of being. Rome wasn't built in a day. There are several seniors who don't belong on that team and in a few weeks all the old way selections will be gone. Good job Leyba, Whitehouse is a stud but other than Garcia and Ortega are there any Vasquez seniors who really help the team? Maybe that's where the complaining and second guessing comes from. Next year Damien will be even better as long as they keep Leyba and Gross and allow them to bring in their own lower level coaches.
Why would Leyva want to even be at Damien anyway? Having to deal with the Damien parent/coaches, what a drag having to have listen to that....you can always count on the stands being full of coaches and umpires at Damien games. Some things never change....
Leyva pulled Whitehouse can u believe that? I'd live and die with my stud and i wouldnt walk off the field with anybody else winning or losing that ballgame. He brings in Guillen and 3 run bomb, game over. Nice call Leyva!!!!! Now Damiens lost the series to Glendora no matter what happens Thursday. Does Clare McKenna have an asst coach opening for next year?
signed,
Earl Weaver
your still azusa
Glendora 4

Whitehouse has 1-hitter through six. Goes out for the 7th with Damien leading 3-0.....
Smigelski single
Winterburn walk

Sadstone;
You got a lot of room to talk. What did you say "until then your still azusa" Okay what are you trying to say here? Then what has the happy rock done lately??? Didn't we sweep you last year!
AZUSA has won the League and are the defending Montview Champs in.
Football
Baseball
Track
Cross country
Sadstone we don't need your props, save them for your team. The season is not over yet...
AZUSA.
Look out for Walnut. Two convincing wins over West Covina last week with Nogales up next for two games. Should we knock off Nogales these next two we must be able to crack this Tribune top ten right Fred?
azusa fan, Sweep Sierra Vista and maybe I will give you some props. Until then your still azusa
Sadstone;
How do you figure, were lucky to get one? When the first game was 5 to 1??? WHY DON'T YOU COUNT YOUR LUCKY STARS... I believe your the lucky one.
AZTECS!
let it slip away? That sophmore kid hit a bomb off
azusa to beat you. Fact is azusa was lucky to win one.
Negative!
AZUSA and Gladstone split the series! And you know we had the second game also! We let slip through our hands!
AZUSA will win the league at the end!
Gladstone beat azusa
Fred;
That should be a good ball game! The Montview league title is up for grabs, and is heating up to be good one till the end. The four top teams right now could win.
Fred also AZUSA'S track team is undefeated, and I believe so is La Puente. This should also be one to watch at the end! AZUSA is the League defending champs in baseball and track. La Puente has a very quick 100m runner, who runs it under 11 seconds, so will have to see what happens.
AZUSA AZTECS!
I will be at the Sierra Vista-Azusa game though
Hey Fred;
I thought you were going to show GLADSTONE some LOVE, and have them ranked? You must of seen Max Preps, were they have gladstone ranked under the LEAGUE DEFENDING CHAMPIONS!
AZUSA AZTECS!
Fred,
It was a 7-5 win over Chino HS in the championship game, not Western Christian. Big game today!
GO Damien!!
