Baseball: Is West Covina for real?
Today's featured game: West Covina (6-4, 1-1) at Nogales (10-3, 2-2) is huge for the Nobles if they hope to keep pace with league-leading South Hills. If West Covina wins, they will keep pace with South Hills, which would make Friday's West Covina-South Hills game huge. It already was big considering the Shirley situation, but this would make it even more special.

Bishop Amat Lefty Paul Paez improved to 3-1 with Tuesday's 1-0 win over St. Paul
Tuesday's Del Rey result: Why does everyone question my Bishop Amat ranking? They showed why they deserve to be No. 2 behind Bonita with a huge 1-0 victory over a very good St. Paul. Pitcher Paul Paez was magnificent, giving up four hits in five innings of work before turning it over to Brandon McNitt to close it out. It was Bishop Amat's fifth consecutive win to improve to 7-3 and 2-0.
Great quote from Lancers coach Andy Nieto: "You remember what Crash Davis said in `Bull Durham,' Don't mess with a streak. We just wanted to let (the kids) know there is over 50 years of athletic excellence behind that name across their chest. It requires a certain degree of an obligation to wear the uniform. I'm sure Santa Claus will give them (varsity jerseys) back to them one of these days."
Did you know: That Bassett's 6-3 win over Workman on Tuesday was the Olympians' first Montview League victory since 2003.

What is going on with Amat first base coach. Lost is the word. Never knows what is going on or the sgin Andy gives. Always killing the innings. We call him the inning killer for the stands. Know the count, outs and etc..... Or just sit in the dug out with the rest of the team.......

In a real game Bonita Spanks Walnut. As far as West Covina and Walnut and the rest of the San Antonio League, Walnut just has this way of losing it has been that way for years and it comes down to Hoff and company. Talent level there but coaching is a minus for that program. Bottom line is they will freeze up and choke again this year (meaning the coaches)So. Hills wins the SA again. West Covina, well we have had their number for years and it will remain that way this year.

west covina is not for real they beat walnut 3-1 with walnut having 4-5 errors. Walnut will smash on west co next game. Now about south hills they are decent nothing like the years before, they are way beatable. i think the san antonio league will be close and come to the final games.

It was a good game between Bonita and Walnut. Yes it was a practice game. Walnut pitch a new pitcher every inning. It was 1-0 going in to the top of the 7th.

First time this year that I have gone to see a Lancer baseball game.
I've been a little busy lately I suppose.
Anyway, a few thoughts on that game against St Paul yesterday.
First off, can somebody tell me who on that team is suppose to call out the guy who's gonna catch the infield fly?
That dropped ball shouldn’t have happened, and to tell you the truth, they really dodged a close one there.
You know, I suppose that allot of folks give coach Nieto a hard time for his Gene Mauch approach to winning games, but I have to tell you that the "little ball" approach works very well for this team especially when you take everything into consideration.
You know, it just seems to me that this team isn’t going to score allot of runs this year, but for what it’s worth, they say defense wins more games than offense right ?
BTW, one more thing here and that is that I know that it seems that coach’s style is to fight and scratch for every inch. But to tell you the truth, it seemed to be a bit much when that runner got called out at third yesterday.
Coach Nieto argued with the umpire for a good 15 minutes over an obvious out, But in retrospect, I have to grudgingly admit that those 15 to 20 minutes of arguing, probably got him a favorable call at first base later on in that game.
In that other play, it seemed to me that the runner was stopped well short of the bag by their first baseman. I have to tell you that I was amazed at how the umpires called the runner safe because the guy was clearly out.
In fact, he was so “out” that that their first baseman still had his foot in front of Anderson’s hand preventing him from even touching the base, even as the ump went over to get a better look.
The amazing thing was that the same guy who had spent that half an hour earlier arguing with Nieto, simply called the runner safe, without even looking at the runners hand.
Wow, you should have heard the Swordsmen go crazy on that play because that entire thing happened right in front of their dugout.
Too funny.

Bonita at Walnut? That one is a practice game I guess? Walnut has no chance unless Bonita sends the JV team to play Walnuts Varsity team. If you want to call that a varsity team on the Walnut side.
Rowland, So Hills. Rowland is no slouch they could play So. Hills Tough but So. Hills seems to be on a tear right now. Tearing up Walnut is not much to write home about tho.
West Covina, Nogales, Nogales should win if Melchor pitches but this will be a tight game, no blow here. Two pretty equal teams going at it here.
