Final: Oh my, Charter Oak blanks Bonita, 3-0

I'm chilling at home watching the Dodgers, Lakers and okay I will say it, American Idol, but my inside source says Charter Oak is leading Bonita 2-0 in the fifth inning of the championship game of the Northview tournament. A drizzle has turned into a steady rain, so we'll see what happens....
Update:The rain has lightened up, but Bonita's chances are fading, it's still 2-0 Charter Oak in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bonita has three outs left in the seventh....
Update II: Just when I said the rain was slowing, it started to pour and now there is a 30-min delay with Charter Oak (home team) leading 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. If they can't resume in 30 minutes, the Chargers win the title.
Update III: They have resumed (even though it's still raining) and Charger Oak has added another run in the sixth to go up 3-0. They're headed to the top of the seventh.
Final Update: It's over, Charter Oak stuns Bonita, 3-0.

Gio is a great propect. He has a big future . Someday he will be a star!

Happy Easter!

REGUARDING THE NEGATIVE COMMENT ABOUT JIO MIER GOING DOWN LOOKING ON TV AT THE AFLEC GAMES IS NOT COOL.THE AFLAC TEAMS ARE THE TOP PROSPECTS IN THE COUNTRY.THE PITCHERS CAN DOMINATE ANY GOOD HITTER.REMEMBER GOOD PITCHING WILL BEAT GOOD HITTING.JIO MIER IS A GREAT KID.PLEASE STAY POSSITIVE.

Don could be Jio's dad
Don could also be Don Julio from the Tequila brand

Don Valdez toting the burro around for his Coffee

Don Knotts which is more like it.

Does not Matter he is wrong on all counts and cannot take it that Bonita keeps losing and that Charter Oak blanked them in a championship game.

No Runs in a Championship game????

Don tell me thats not how you roll over at Bonita.

Is Don Jio;s dad????

I think if you break it down position by position, I would go with Glendora. If they can put it all together they will be really good.

I love seeing all these position by position comparisons. Reminds me of the page in the tribune or that comes out the day before a playoff series starts where they compare two teams in detail. Makes me wonder which SGV team has the best talent position by position. I know Don.....this doesn't mean the best team....just the best talent. Any guesses? Northview? Amat? Glendora? Charter Oak? Bonita?

Don,

Your long winded posts are nothing but diversion from the fact. Face it Dante CO is the better team man for man at the majority of positions. Coaching also favors CO. When was the last time Bonita got to the dance?

Charter Oak should be moving up in the polls. Right now they have more wins than anyone in the SGV. Their losses have been close & to 4 of the top 5 teams in your poll Fred. Quality schedule.

Don,

I agree with you. Bonita may have more individual talent but I think Charter Oak is a better "team". Plus, I'll take Charter Oaks coaching as well. Tom Quinley's CO teams have been to the CIF Finals at Angel Stadium in 2005, won CIF at Dodger Stadium in 2007 & who knows what will happen in 2009. CO & Bonita will have a harder time since they are in Div III & NV & Amat are in Div IV (still don't know why Amat isn't in DI like in football). Just my humble opinion. :)

Don

3 to nothing.

What else has to be said ?

The better team won.

Don,

Gelalich's arm and power at the plate is a great thing to have, but I thing Surdo reads the ball better off the bat and you can't make up speed. I can't agree with your take on Kissell and Calderero maybe by the numbers, but Kissell just wins games.

"Two more exciting game still to come"

CO's second baseman has a win this spring as a relief pitcher. His arm must be pretty good too.

Don,
It's just my take and that's why are games have been so close so far 2 plays and 2 hits have decide both games in my opinion and yes I know we have played 14 inns. hats off to one of the strongest leagues in Div.3

Hey there WMG, getting a little feisty are you? You seem to want to make this personal rather than stick with the proposition. It's like getting the wrong Baldwin brother in a debate. Well, you go on ahead and get worked up over what you see as some type of affront to your own bad self and I'll just stick with a more deliberate style.

Alright, now go back and re-read what I wrote. YOU are the one confusing the best team Tuesday night with the “man for man” talent which was what you wrote about in the first place. Tuesday night, Charter Oak fielded the best team. That's why, you know, they won. They played together, as a team, better than Bonita did on Tuesday night. So they won. And Bonita lost, on Tuesday. Have you got it yet?
I'll give you a moment to try and understand the two are different. It's sort of like the Red Sox and Yankees not buying a World Series' every year, OK. Charter Oak has a good team with a very good game manager at the helm. You want explanations from me about Bonita's failure to wax Walnut and Wilson and that I don't have. Sorry.
I also can't explain why C O let Amat come back from a 11-3 deficit after five or why they lost to Crescenta Valley and split with Claremont. Some things just defy explanation.

South, Interesting takes and fun to talk about. Good work. Here's back at you.

Kissell better than Calderero? So far Nico has the better numbers in earned runs, hits and runs allowed and a better ratio of K's to BB's. They are pretty close with the bat; KK with more output and Nico with better pop. I've gotta stay with Calderero.
Interesting proposition at First. My comparo used Reynoso as 1B because that's what C O put down Tuesday. IMO, Chris is the best F3 in the league but he's only been there once in the 4-5 games I've seen C O play this year. I'd use either as a #4 hitter but I'd take Allen as a 1st Baseman.
On second look, I'm rethinking second base. While I think Henley has more range and a better arm, Jonah has done more with the bat this year than anyone could have expected. The offense he has brought should give him the blue ribbon so far.
I messed up the Bonita LF's name, it's Matt, not Greg, and he is a bit better in the OF than Matty Santiago. Santiago, on the other hand, can fill in at SS, behind the plate, and pitch if they need him. (There is that “team” thing again).
Josh and Jeff even? Again, just my opinion, but Gelalich's arm and power at the plate move him up a notch. He's also a more consistent hitter than Surdo who has tended to be streaky.
Miles and Corey? Miles probably has a defensive advantage, but is hurt and can't hit. Hare is slugging like .600 or .700 with a half dozen doubles. As much as I love Miles, Corey gets the nod.
So far the two DH's are pretty close numerically. I'll go with your analysis.

Don,
I could rebutt your choices but it would be totally the other way around with the only choices I would give you would be Jiovanni and Plowman the rest are CO dominant. Flip side to you Don is explain your Loss to CO and why Walnut kept it close not to mention your loss to Wilson???? If in fact this Bonita team in your demented mind is far superior to CO why are they losing? Floor is yours Donny - boy.

Don, South of Covina,

Thank you both for the props of being the better Left Fielder, but I think you may have meant MATT GELALICH. I was more of a 3rd baseman !

To all the rose color glasses..

It sounds like your opinions are very biased.
Kissel is far better than Calderaro he thinks when his on the hill. And for center field just look at there reaction time on balls hit.

Your rebuttal is way off. South of Covina.....
Bonita is better than Charter Oak at every position except maybe catcher and 1st base. Saying Surdo is even with Gelalich proves your opinions are very biased. Calderaro is far better than Kissel as well. Time to get real.

Bearcats,

Did your game count in the Tournament? Win league then pop off.

Champions: Charter Oak

Runner-up: Bonita

Don,
"This is how I see it"

I few defenses changes
and a whole deferent out look.

Pitcher 1: Kenny Kissell vs Nico Calderero – advantage Charter Oak
Pitcher 2: Joe Reynoso vs Jason Plowman – advantage Bonita
Pitcher's 3, 4, 5: Santiago, Tiffany, Hernandez vs Ypez, Paradez, Tuttle – Even
Catcher: Jake Bailey vs Mark Lindsay - advantage Charter Oak
First Base: Chris Allen vs Jason Plowman – advantage Charter Oak
Second Base: Jonah Northrup vs Ryan Henley – even
Third Base: Mike Hernandez vs Terry Paradez – advantage Charter Oak
Short Stop: Danny Tiffany vs Jiovanni Mier – advantage Bonita
Left Field: Matt Santiago vs Greg Gelalich – advantage Bonita
Center Field: Josh Surdo vs Jeff Gelalich – even
Right Field:Miles Meredith vs Corey Hare – advantage Charter Oak
DH: D J Wallace vs Evan Highly - advantage Bonita

Still no rebuttal? Lots of everything else, but W.M.G. Still hasn't told me where I'm wrong.

For Not WMG, but could be |: They sure did Tuesday night, no argument there.

For Another Observer: Never said they weren't, you are the one hanging your hat on a prediction. I was just evaluating talent.

For AE, “The CO second baseman is contributing nicely to the team as a senior. A point of interest: His father was an all-state second baseman in HS. Go CO! “: Thanks for that Nadine.

For get a life and other detractors of Mier: Jio is without a question the best baseball player in the valley this year, (he probably was last season too), but he is far from perfect. Those of you requiring perfection need to look somewhere other than a baseball field.

AE

BIG DEAL! LMAO

Not WMG, but could be

Did your game count in league? Win in league then pop off.

Get a Life

Oh by the way, NAME ONE CO PLAYER, that's on the MLB radar list like JIO...

Don

I guess you can sit there all day long breaking it down, but in the end the better team won. No matter how you agrue it, no matter how you twist it, no matter how you spin it, the better team won. See, just look at that "W" next to the win loss collum. It means something.

Get a Life,

Yeah, got to agree w/u, Mier did look like a deer in the headlights - I think he was caught looking on 3 pitches for a K. Maybe he learned from that - who knows. I do think that CO is going all the way this year.

Regarding the Bonita-Charter Oak player comparisons. The CO second baseman is contributing nicely to the team as a senior. A point of interest: His father was an all-state second baseman in HS. Go CO!

Don (Done)

Obviously you are one of the few that rate the Bonita boys over CO.

Hey, was Jiovanni Mier the kid that looked pretty bad on TY when he struck out in the Alflac all star game last year? That Jiovanni?

“Don,
So one sided in the edge category.”

Yah think? So where is your rebuttal? All I did was answer your assertion that the Chargers were better “man for man”. You came back with a different argument about “chemistry” which while changing your original argument does have a bit more validity than your statement about which team has the better players.

While we're on the subject of validity, you might be right about the C O seniors making them what they are but if they get beyond week one of the playoffs it will be on the back of a Junior and a Freshman.

OK. I'm ready for position by position rebuttal.

Don,

So one sided in the edge category.

With all those edges you would think the outcome yesterday would have been a Bonita shutout of CO. Please explain your loss with such a great team(aledgedly) and also why a team like Walnut went deep into the later part of the Game with Bonita tied 1-1.? CO has chemistry something Bonita needs to find if they are to be competitive come the real (CIF) Season.

Bold words W.M.G. May I take issue with a couple of them?

“They have man for man a better team then Bonita ...”

This is how I see it, let me know where I'm wrong.

Pitcher 1: Kenny Kissell vs Nico Calderero – Advantage Bonita
Pitcher 2: Joe Reynoso vs Jason Plowman – Advantage Bonita
Pitcher's 3, 4, 5: Santiago, Tiffany, Hernandez vs Ypez, Paradez, Tuttle – Even
Catcher: Jake Bailey vs Mark Lindsay - Advantage Charter Oak
First Base: Joe Reynoso vs Jason Plowman – Advantage Bonita
Second Base: Jonah Northrup vs Ryan Henley – Advantage Bonita
Third Base: Mike Hernandez vs Terry Paradez – Advantage Charter Oak
Short Stop: Danny Tiffany vs Jiovanni Mier – Advantage Bonita
Left Field: Matt Santiago vs Greg Gelalich – Advantage Bonita
Center Field: Josh Surdo vs Jeff Gelalich – Advantage Bonita
Right Field: Chris Allen vs Corey Hare – Advantage Charter Oak

“...their Senior players have been playing together since 9-10 yr olds ...”

Playing against each other during the rec season was more like it. Allen, Tiffany, Bailey, and Surdo played with one age group in post season and Michael Hernandez played the next level with Miles Meredith and Joe Reynoso (among others), D.J. And Matty were a year behind that. Slippery slope that, since bringing up those teams probably should include kid's names from lots of local schools like South Hills, San Dimas, and Bonita.

All of that said, C O should do well the rest of the season, the acquisition of Travis and Reynoso's stepping up will be huge as the year plays out. Tom Quinley is also one of the very best game managers locally, especially in the big ones, way important when the playoffs start.

hey Rocky...

Apparently ENGLISH is something not everyone can master either. Try tackling the grammar button. Yikes. So much for public education...

Even after Fred picked D-BAR in this tournament I was not convinced. Charter Oaks team is a very well balanced team and their Senior players have been playing together since 9-10 yr olds in Pony. They have man for man a better team then Bonita or D-bar. The Seniors on this team make them who they are. CO will make it far come CIF. Thet have alot going for them and as the season keeps going they will only get better. Co eventually could become the number one team in the Tribune, yes and that also includes being number one over Amat. CO was beating Amat in that game they played early on. Amat came back and won. Both teams were not at full stride yet, It would be great to see them play again.

and all this time I pegged you as a guy who watched DWTS.. my bad

Fred as you know baseball is a game know one could master 100 percent. If we knew the results of a game or a season. We would find some other pass time.Thats what makes Baseball Great.!! Go CO stay strong.

Every now and then I'm wrong, I guess.

I thought I read on Mondays blog "go with the bats, after all the frontline pitchers are out, I'm going with DBar" wow.......could you be further off, CO wins on a shutout, while scoring only 3.....lol
