Charter Oak struggling to find an opponent

Will somebody pick up the phone and call Charter Oak?

I have never heard Chargers football coach Lou Farrar sound so frustrated and desperate to find an opponent to fill out their ten-game schedule. As of now, the defending CIF-Champion Chargers still have no opponent for week one, which is the weekend of Sept. 11-12. We all know this should have been Bishop Amat, but after the Lancers said "No" to their invitation, the Chargers are left with no opponent after searching the western part of the United States to find anyone. To be fair, Amat inquired about the game long ago, but from what I hear the Charter Oak administration didn't want it more than the coaches at the time, leaving us with this from coach.

"It's bothering me," Farrar said. "I've lost sleep over it. I've had nightmares over it. We have checked in Oakland, Colorado, the City Section, Fresno and can't find anyone. At this point we're willing to face anyone at any place, Friday or Saturday that weekend. Get the word out, if anyone has an open spot and wants to host the game or travel here, give us a call."

Bellflower, Banning, San Diego Escondido and just a few schools listed on the CIF website looking for week one games. Seriously, doesn't anyone want a piece of the defending champions? If the Chargers can't find an opponent, they will be forced to play a nine game schedule. This is so sad, we went from a mammoth Bishop Amat-Charter Oak dream game to this ....

Comment one and all...

Hey peeps...

Before Bishop Amat a couple of years ago, who can name the other Pac-5 powerhouse or equivalent that Charter Oak scheduled?

anyone...

anyone...

anyone...

?

Poor Charter Oak...willing to schedule the likes of Long Beach Poly, Esperanza, Bishop Amat, Mission Viejo, etc.

Yet no one has the gonads to step up to the historic Charger program.

lmfao!

gotta love big Lou,

Dodge Amat all winter and when Amat got their schedule filled, why won't Amat play us. He deserves to have to scrounge for a quality game.

Charter Oak pleeeease! You will play anyone? You turned down Bishop Amat again and you turned down Missiion Viejo. You will play anyone? Yeah right!

frank c-that's 100% true and common knowledge. Amat/CO played for two years. CO got a butt whuppin each year and chose not to renew in '06. had they-the series would have continued and the sgv would still have a game today. in the meantime they've been replaced with other sgv schools.

just saying...that's not exactly true. CO got better, had a good year and chose to step up and ask Amat for a game and Amat said no. That's not only documented facts but also not in dispute by anyone from either side. No need to revise your history unless some one knows differently...still CO should start playing teams that actually want to play ...Serra and Cathedral will give CO a great game.

Address that oint.

homework boy-how 'bout back to the original point:Charter Oak wouldn't be in this position if they didn't choose to NOT renew their contract with Amat in'06 after the Lancers thoroughly kicked their butt in back-to-back years.

Larry P.,

Charter Oak was very close to signing Tesoro and was ready to sign a contract but instead Tesoro chose to sign Mission Hills in San Diego instead. Next point!

How about Lou calling Amat and schedule a Saturday game with the freshmen reserve team that should level the playing field.Middle against light weight.

Farr should have found Tesoro before SHHS did. He is not looking for a week one opponent with Amat or anybody else. One less game means less wear and tear for the team heading towards the playoffs. NICE MOVE COACH I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU. You fool no one. The Wilson Mules of L.A. Wilson High in El Sereno are looking for a week one opponent. Call Eddie Martinez.

Dude get some new material. This is a re-tread all over again, stirring that Amat/CO pot. It is not going to happen. Just say CO looking for a week one game. All the Amat said "no" and the tit for tat that goes with it is old. Then when bloggers come on here and fight the fight for their schools as to who blinked first and they exchange insults you go to the old "Censor card". What a antagonist you are Fred.

imwtk,
I know it's baseball season , but talk about coming out of left field. That is quite a spin on why CO doesn't have a week one game.
Frank,
Muir would be a good choice or for that matter St Francis since they are both considered west valley powers. The one thing I found funny about the whole subject is that after it came out on the blog that AMAT would be as they say in a down cycle next year (ha ha ha ha ) the challenge came out from CO . Coincidence ? Maybe ,maybe not. Let's see what other people think.

Charter Oak would have never been in this situation originally if West Covina would of agreed to continue to play their crossover game versus the Chargers. Since West Covina refuses to play Charter Oak they are forced to look for an extra preseason game. Someone ask West Covina why they won't play Charter Oak.

Oh, I feel really bad for CO and Big Lou. Who cares, get over it. Pretty soon big Lou will have to come clean and it will be the Charter Oak Mustangs (you all know what I mean)

Big Lou should have had a game by now. It falls on the head coach. You make sure you have options all the time.

Amat 73 I see what you're saying and I do like a good challenge but CO is not built for BA. Damien abused them and that's saying something seeing as Amat abuses Damien...or did when I saw them...although I was there when Damien di beat Aamt...that was pretty col.

CO should, in my opinion, go play a team like Jordan or Crenshaw or Carson....that way they would get the benefit of attracting players form that area to their program...if that's not in the cards why not play Muir, Pasadena or Maranatha?

Games like this are meant to attract players to your program.. just like what Amat is trying to do by playing DR, DHS, WC and now maybe CO...SH will never step up we all now that, Just kidding.
The End

Oaks Christian???

sorry hit the post by accident. Here's the finish.
to beat Tyson as you put it. I agree it is a dead horse now until maybe the 2010 season when our games with other local schools will be over. We will then have no local school games and we can sign with CO for the 2 year deal because afterall the SGV does want to see this game . If that happens it will be because both schools want it regardless of heavy vs middle weights. You do recall the past thread when it made a big splash that Coach Lou called us and we denied the game . Made for some great banter and a lot of name calling thrown in our direction . It makes the blog come alive when things concerning AMAT are presented in the manner it was on this thread and the past on the other thread about CO's open spot .

Frank,
You are correct in your assumption thta we already had our go around. Remember it was the CO fans that were harping on this this game for the 09 season simply because they did have a great 08 and felt now was their time to beat

fred its not that teams dont want to play charter oak its just that they all ready have a game one set. you put this out like if everybody is scared to play charter oak..... the coach can look more into the la city teams and find someone west covina picked up venice for week 2 maybe the coach doesent know how to look or maybe he likes all the attention the tribune is giving him this can help him because there is alot of silly parents out there thinking hmmmm maybe it should sent my superstar to charter oak.... they are soo good nobody wants to play them.

As far as Charter Oak goes why not play Serra or Cathedral? Both schools bring a lot of tradition and talent and have outstanding coaching staffs and in my humble opinion both are great physical high scoring games. As far as playing Amat, what's the point. Amat already had their "go around" so why keep kicking a team when you are clearly better than they are. Can we once and for all have a time out with the "when we were supposedly down" talk from Amat bloggers. I don't see how that makes Amat look like anything other than childish. "My Dad can beat up your Dad with one arm tied behind his back!"...oh really?
Here's the thing with Bishop Amat, you're a Heavyweight challenging or "pushing on" a Middleweight at best. That's like Mike Tyson calling out a blown up Oscar De La Hoya...if Oscar wins...he pulled out a miracle....but if Mike wins...maybe Oscar suffers..I'm sorry what was teh score in both the CO/BA games?
So can we all leave this ridiculous issue alone? It only brings out the worst in both camps when clearly Amat had a very good seaosn last year and CO have an even more "successful" one.
The End.

You're both right, Bishop Amat extended the invitation first, but I don't blame the Charter Oak coaches, they wanted the game all along, it was the school's administration that balked at first.

This falls on the head coach. When Hagerty couldn't get Charter Oak to commit for two months, he went looking for games and found on in Dominguez.

You are absolutely correct. Charter Oak NEVER should have refused to renew their contract with Amat in'06 after the Lancers thoroughly kicked their butt in back-to-back years even while Amat was in a down cycle. The Chargers kind dug themselves into this hole - didn't they
