Releaguing heating up, Red or Blue?

Our good friend Pete Marshall at the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin posted this on his blog recently. It gives further insight to what might happen with releaguing in the coming weeks ....

Marshall writes: It's down to 2 proposals, but might not be limited to two, for releaguing the Mt. SAC Area in the high schools. There will be plenty of politicking over the next few weeks about which of the two proposals to vote for. If they can't get a 2/3 vote by the 42 principals in the area on one of the two, then other proposals will be considered. Sticking points that my be an issue at the principal's meeting April 21:

1) The Baseline League wants Glendora and not Damien/St. Lucy's, to join their league.
2) One proposal has Charter Oak in the Sierra League. Charter Oak contends that works for baseball and maybe 1 or 2 other sports, but isn't a good match overall.
3) The red proposal has too many five-team leagues to pass, is my guess
4) Damien/St. Lucy's is an unpopular school tandem to have in a league, but others have issues with Diamond Ranch and/or South Hills, for various reasons, too.
5) Do people prefer the 6 or 7 league proposal?

Here are the proposals (note: Mt. Baldy, Valle Vista and Montview are the same in the 2 proposals)

RED (7 LEAGUES) *-changed from existing

Baseline(5): Alta Loma, Etiwanda, Los Osos, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland
Sierra (5): Ayala, Chino Hills, Damien/St. Lucy's, D. Ranch*, Glendora
Mt. Baldy (7): Chaffey, Chino*, Colony, Don Lugo, Garey, Montclair, Ontario
Miramonte (5): Bonita, Charter Oak, Claremont*, Los Altos, S. Hills*
San Antonio(5): Diamond Bar*, Nogales, Rowland, Walnut, West Covina
Valle Vista(6): Baldwin Park, Covina, Northview, Pomona, San Dimas, Wilson*
Montview (8): Azusa, Bassett, Duarte, Ganesha*, Gladstone, La Puente, Sierra Vista, Workman

BLUE (6 LEAGUES) *-changed from existing
Baseline(6): Alta Loma, Etiwanda, Los Osos, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Damien/St. Lucy's*
Sierra (7): Ayala, Chino Hills, Charter Oak*, Claremont*, Diamond Ranch*, Glendora, S. Hills*
Mt. Baldy (7): Chaffey, Chino*, Colony, Don Lugo, Garey, Montclair, Ontario
San Antonio(7): Bonita*, Diamond Bar*, Los Altos* Nogales, Rowland, Walnut, West Covina
Valle Vista(6): Baldwin Park, Covina, Northview, Pomona, San Dimas, Wilson*
Montview (8): Azusa, Bassett, Duarte, Ganesha*, Gladstone, La Puente, Sierra Vista, Workman

Robledo absolutely prefers the Red Proposal, how about you?

Comments

RHP83 - Great point. agree whole-heartedly. They are a much better fit in the Mission Valley or Rio Hondo Leagues.

Diamond Bar has 2 football league victories in 5 years! 'nuff said!...talk about a sh8t talker!.. you're only as good as your performances against your peers...is DB a div 2 or a div 6 school?...playing beverly hills is about your caliber.

here's you propsed schedule

Maranatha
La Salle
St. Francis
Alhambra
Mark Keppel
Walnut
La Serna
Bosco Tech
Troy
Webb

What would your record be against them?

Panther Fan, you HAVEN'T WON ANYTHING IN BASEBALL, FOOTBALL OR BOYS HOOPS at any level you've been thrown....yet you still come on here talking that smack...in 10 plus years you havent won jack!!!!!!!!!!! Has your team won a league game in baseball this year??? STFU!!!! what don't you get???

Send Duarte to the WSGV where it is located.

Pantherfan,
You write as if D.Ranch is on a higher level than West Co., the teams are 2-2-1 verses each other, and in the game that was tied [2004] West Co. Dominated DR on both offense & defense but had five turnovers & missed a last second field goal to win that one.
You got us this year but, most years I'd be willing to bet that WC wins the game.

Just because DR has a smaller student body than DB, doesnt mean that they produce LESS ATHLETES. DB is an ACADEMIC SCHOOL. the asian student body doesnt neccessarily appeal to athletics. schools like walnut, hacienda wilson, and others are feeling the same effect. its not a bad thing though, the lack of athletics is due to the rise in academics.
but for the record, DR didnt wanna play with DB. in April 2006, DR was scheduled to play DB, but DR dropped us and we had to schedule LOCKE and LONG BEACH JORDAN as our filler games.

2006 DB SCHEDULE
TEMESCAL CANYON
WALNUT
LOCKE (SUPPOSED TO BE DR)
BREA OLINA
TROY
LEAGUE

2007 SCHEDULE
TEMESCAL CANYON
WALNUT
LB JORDAN (SUPPOSED TO BE DR)
BREA OLINDA
TROY
LEAGUE

Also, DR fans have created a bad reputation among the DB administration. with fights at the basketball game due to DR fans stomping on the Brahma symbol in the middle of the court at halftime. DB also had to cancel going to Knotts on the first day of school due to fights with DR students. Right now, its just too risky.
So to all the Diamond Ranch Fans, i dont want to hear about how Diamond Bar if 'scared' to play you guys. Its really because we are tired of your crap

WOW – Randy, Randy, Randy what in the world have you been smoking dude. All this was only my version of how the leagues should be set. 1) To ease the travel time and distance for the athletes, Parents and Fans for the league competitions. (Get a map and see how the schools are arranged by area). 2) Less travel time = less cost for the School Districts. 3) To re-establish some old rivalries and to establish new ones. 4) To localize the leagues and have some schools face their fears such as Glendora not playing Charter Oak and Diamond Bar not playing Diamond Ranch in pre-league games. It forces them to face each other in league, bringing out rivalries that the local communities would like to see. Would of, Could of, Should of will be out the window, and reality will be set in motion on the field.
This had nothing to do with DR not wanting to go against C.O. .
If C.O. would like to go against DR if re-leaguing places them in different leagues I’m pretty sure the DR Coaches wouldn’t back down. Of course C.O. does like to play lesser teams so they don’t get to beat up for league. That’s probably why they played DB last season.
I am not a spokes person for DR, their coaches, staff, or students/athletes. I don’t set their standards or make their schedules. But I am sure they would not back down from challenges i.e. DB. In fact a move to the Sierra league for DR would be a scaling up considering it is in a higher division (DIV II) vs. (DIV VII) for the Miramonte league and they would be playing the so called Orange County teams in the playoffs.
Speaking of little fish, DR would be the little fish in the Sierra League having the smallest enrollment of any of the other schools I listed them with. It takes guts to go head to head with the big guys, I guess that’s why DB is desperately trying to avoid DR and be satisfied with teams like Nogales, West Covina and Los Altos, teams that DR easily defeated. DB just can’t face the humiliation when a smaller school like DR takes the crown. When was the last time DB had any real competition? When was the last time they won anything of importance? Yeah I can’t think of anything either, sucks huh.

Fred,
Please delete the comments of 'JustforG' from April 10, 1:34 pm. Not appropriate.

Fred do you know of releaguing affecting the Star News area teams. I have asked this question on thier blog mant times but never get a response.

five will get you twenty...you never played any sport did you?....yet you talk sooooooooo much trash.....please explain how you know sooooooooo much about everything sports....and who blows and who doesn't.....last count you know about...footballl...basketball...and baseballl...which position did you attempt to not play....randy no nuts...no game experience yet an expert in all things sports...you're kinda scary when you're mad...must be all that pent up wanna play anger...STFU stupid

At least i didnt make my kid quit the game by riding a$$ like you did, if this is who i think it is, since your ball less and won't even leave a first name, guess we'll never know...

randy the bigmouth non athlete's head is getting crazy crowded...five will get you twenty....you never played did you.....yet you bag on kids who do...you're so hostile these days randy...maybe it's time to STFU and take your own advice

My DR pal/dork, who are these "athletes" that you speak of in your post?? Current student-athletes?? 45 yr old ex-athletes living through their kids?? The bloggers who come in here anonymously are hardly going to be considered "athletes" merely by the wording of their post....your just trying to stir things up ain't ya? Sounds like Frank.....my takes are almost 90 percent rebuttals to the crap spewed here from their mouths....I'm just reminding everyone of the big picture, why don't you try a slice of humble pie yourself, DR Nation should be feasting on that this year....And what a pot stirring worm you are to insinuate that I am knowingly engaging in this banter with little kids...ya jag off....

Oh I'm gonna bet that since you dont even leave a first name your quite the clown yourself, it would take about 3 seconds to figure out who you are if you left a name....but since you like to hide behind everything you say and just sling mud, 5 will get me 20 that you never leave a real first name,..........theres only 5-6 DR parents that I really know, and I'm pretty sure those weasels like coming on here pooping off how bitchen "they" are.....almost all of my posts directed at the DR Nation have been replies to their big mouths shooting off here (unless its FC climbing on their leg again), those daddy coaches like to dish it out but they can't take it at all, thats just classic......and talk about getting personal with the kids, they are the kings of low ball....so again i say GFY bro......and happy easter to you too

Randy what are you talking about and why the hostility? Get some help ...or at least get an athletic resume before you tell athletes to STFU...Dude it's Easter !

Must be very fustrating beig ..."you" ! Five will get you twenty you're all talk yourself!

hey panther fan, so long as you are in the miramonte league with CHARTER OAK you need to STFU! Don't come on here begging to beat down DB, focus on what you have in front of you, or try to focus, it would seem that CO has your number down pat and will be the dagger that does you in every year!!!! Your posting to be in newly formed Sierra league with Chino, Don Lugo and DB has the stench of realizing you just DONT WANT NONE of CO NO MORE!!!!!! I thought you were afraid of no one, I thught you relished the elite competition? I guess not, your ready to scale back huh? You did have a damn good bunch a kids go through these past 4-5 years, but are you now possibly coming to the conclusion that you can't get it done at that level? CIF damn near gift wrapped the conference your in now, taking away the Orange County playoff competition, but they can't rig things enough for you against CHARTER OAK huh baby?? Yep, keep dreaming about them CIF banners bro! Good luck against the I.E. teams that you righfully should be thrown in with for post season play, your gonna need it, lord knows you haven't had any lately. Stop banging away at the little fish and take down a giant for once, will ya? You are the biggest blow hards I have ever heard, for not winning jack sh*t!

Not sure what all this is based on. Is it student population, today's sports, history, Division, proximity, what?
I propose in the Valle Vista league. San Dimas, Bishop Amat, Northview, Diamond Ranch, Damien/St. Lucys, Covina.
Valle Vista has always been weak. This would give it some pop.

lets make all the east sgv schools independents like notre dame and then have a 16 team playoff bracket

Miramonte - Bonita, Charter Oak, Damien/St. Lucy's, Glendora, South Hills, West Covina

Sierra - Ayala, Chino, Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, Diamond Ranch, Don Lugo

Mt. Baldy - Garey, Pomona, Montclair, Ontario, Ganesha, Chaffey

Baseline - Alta Loma, Etiwanda, Los Osos, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Colony

San Antonio - Los Altos, Wilson, Nogales, Rowland, Walnut, La Puente

Montview - Azusa, Bassette, Duarte, Gladstone, Sierra Vista, Workman

Valle Vista - Baldwin Park, Covina, Northview, San Dimas, Claremont

i like the Blue proposal better but i feel that Diamond Bar and Diamond Ranch should play in the same league. I understand that DB and DR dont have a good past, DR is on a much higher level than DB in most atheltics, and i know that the DB coaches probably dont appreciate the comments made by Roddy Layton in the papers, but i still feel that DB/DR should play a game every year.
It can even be played at a park, Roddy.

Splitting Los Altos and Wilson is like splitting South Hills and Covina/Northview or Bonita and San Dimas. They were matched up for years and when the time came SH and BoHi put up a fight - but to no avail.
It may just mean they need to add it as a great pre-league rivalry game.
If Edgewood were to re-open (which may be more on the backburner due to the economic turn... Fred?) they would fit in the Valle Viste at the beginning league much more than the San Antonio - but it could be time to releague again by that time

interesting..so either way charter oak and south hills are in the same league, and los altos and wilson are not? who woulda thunk it?

what happens if west covina unified opens edgewood high again?

South Hills, West Covina, Charter Oak, Glendora, Bonita, and Damien would have balance, proximity, natural rivalries, and makes economic sense. Good box office. The voters have to consider what is going to happen, not the past. How many and what will the typical student athlete be like in the future? Will they be able to fairly compete within their league? Voters can only make best guesses in any case. A coaching change; a sudden lack of 250lb, or 6-10, or 10 flat specimens; a dearth of free spending boosters can really ruin your day or your season or your year. Have faith, these are only temporary fixes. The next one could pit you against those 4000-student powers with all new facilities and super rich parents. On that great big scoreboard in the sky, will it matter?

i dont get it wheres the mission valley league???

Wait! Be nice, don't call Glendora kids homosexuals. They can't help that they walk funny.

Neither Los Altos or Wilson have the numbers of student athletes or demographics (balance of race, height, weight, and cultures) to compete with the bigger schools with larger, stronger, faster players. Aligning either with the likes of Bonita, Charter Oak, South Hills, West Covina or DRanch is Christians to Lions time. If I am the HLPUSD I lobby strongly for LA, Wilson, LP with Walnut, Rowland and Nogales.

All of the following schools are only about a mile from the I-60 in the valley -

(starting from west - east)

Los Altos, La Puente, Workman, Wilson, Nogales, Rowland, Diamond Bar, Diamond Ranch

so much for economic considerations

And can anyone explain why Los Altos, Wilson, La Puente, Workman - all from the HLPUSD school district canot be in the same league????

being raised in Texas where even the junior highs have all weather tracks instead of dirt and high schools have 20,000 seat stadiums I have given up trying to understand CA politics

The only thing winning are the parents who complain until their koid plays. Who cares what league people are in...it supposed to be about competition and life lessons. Most of u on here never even played any sport but u give these lame ducj opinions to fill your nights. My kid is going to Yale and would have been a 4 year starter in high school except the coaches didn't like me so they took it out on him. Makes me want to throw green paint on someones car!

Football Ref-
There are people who think the Valle Vista league is already weak. If you put Gladstone in that league, it will make it weaker.

Whatever changes that are made, they also need to consider what division they can compete in. As of right now, there are teams that are competitive with each other in league but as soon as you get into playoffs they get blasted because they can't compete with teams in their division.

Case in point. Consider girls soccer in the Mt. Baldy League. The teams in the league are very competitive, but as soon as playoffs come none of these teams make it past the first round. Due to the fact that someone at CIF thinks this league is a Divison 2 league, when in fact most of the coaches in this league know we are a Division 3 or 4. In the past 8 years, only one team has made it past the first round in girls soccer for the Mt. Baldy league.

I like Red. I'm believe that Blue goes into effect.

Chino should stay in the sierra league. Why do you hate on them so much?

Throw SH and CO in the Serra, so they can smash on BA... BA would hate that for sure, two more losses for them...

It is a tragedy with some of the leagues and demoralizing defeats that have plagued some of the less fortunate schools. Certain schools do not have proper equipment(GAREY, Montclair,Ganesha)these are the little engines that think they can but nothing is in the tank. Garey needs to be placed in the Montview league and remove Gladstone and placed them in the Valle Vista league. Victory 4 all and pride throughout is what Prep Athletics should be about. I have seen every school listed compete in some form of sport over the last 10 years and rivalries are good for the sport but should not be the be a factor, balance and competitiveness should.

Personally it's been hard for us to compete in Football since Bonita won the CIF title in '99. We do well in other sports, Water Polo being one as well as basketball, and girls soccer had been doing well but went down but appears to be coming back. Looks like we're set for baseball now. The Problem is Bonita is a lot smaller than the other schools we play, and I understand our coaches do great in preparing the teams to compete day in and day out.

No way Glendora votes blue. They don't want to get smacked around by lower div CO, SH and DR.

Put CO and SH in the Serra. D1

I just don't understand why Chino is out of the sierra league and Ayala is staying. Ayala seems to have been the doormat of the league for the past 6 years. If I recall correctly Ayala has only made the playoffs in football and in baseball once in the last six years.

Too many odd team leagues in both proposals, IMO.

These are the two proposals on the table that will be voted on. If they do not get 2/3 vote, they go back to the drawing board

you don't understand, it's not about making sense, it's about sticking it to south hills, charter oak and damien at all costs. Why are principals even voting in the first place? It's about taking the best public sports schools in the sgv and forcing them east so the others can win a few games...vote it down and vote it down fast. I agree, los altos and wilson should NEVER be split up.

Hey fred

How close is this to being the real thing? Or is it just writers guessing who might go where? Or is it really the last 2 options left?

i dont like either proposal-first of all Los Altos and Wilson need to be in the same league-thats a rivalry that needs to continue-and South Hills should be playing in the same league as West Covina,Rowland and Walnut so the naturla fit would be to have Los Altos and Wilson play in the league with WC,ROWLAND,WALNUT and SOUTH HILLS-that is a real good league for all sports.

The blue proposal is a way to stick it to South Hills and Charter Oak, forcing them to play Inland Empire teams while the "new" San Antonio gives West Covina, Bonita, and Diamond Bar the perfect place for dominance. Then throwing Damien in the baseline sticks it to Gano...I can see the valley principals and coaches now, ganging up on South Hills, Charter Oak and Damien, forcing them to play inland empire teams if the blue proposal passes. The red is better, you actually get 23 playoffs teams instead of 22, and the five-team leagues are way more balanced

Fred,

Can you please explain what is the purpose of sending Ganesha, to the Montview League?

If the whole purpose is to create competitive equity then why is Colony staying in the Mt. Baldy League? Why is Garey staying? Why is Alta Loma still in the Baseline League?

I really do not like 5 team leagues however the San Antonio league for D-Bar looks good as they can compete with all the schools in the league in all sports.
