Girls Soccer: Browne Delivers the Goods

GIRLS SOCCER ALL-AREA
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Lynsey Browne, St. Lucy's, Defender, Senior
School: St. Lucy's
Grade: Senior
Position: Defender
Notable: The Sierra League player of the year had an outstanding season in leading the Regents to the Sierra League title and a 15-4-4 overall mark, and 9-1 in league. With so many dangerous forwards to deal with, Browne was the big force on defense, helping the Regents record 12 shutouts, and five straight blank sheets during an impressive run through league against Chino Hills, Chino, Ayala, Diamond Bar and Glendora. Even more impressive was her versatility. Browne was able to get forward on counter attacks and was dangerous on set-pieces with her 5-foot-8 frame, especially on crosses, which helped her net seven goals and six assists. Also a CIF-Southern Section Division II honoree, Browne will continue her career at UC Riverside next fall.

Coach of the year
Name:
Chris Reeder
School: Los Altos
Year: 7th
This season: For a team with so many sophomores and juniors, even Reeder was surprised how quickly everything came together for the Conquerors. The Conquerors finished 16-7-4 and beat out three others in the final week to claim the Miramonte League title over talented teams like Bonita, Diamond Ranch and Charter Oak. After starting the season by advancing to the finals of the La Mirada tournament, the Conquerors continued to shine in tournament play, winning the Garey tournament with a 2-0 decision over Magnolia, the same team it defeated in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division IV playoffs before losing to Cathedral City in the second round in penalty kicks.

PS. SL fans, there are couple of sisters over at Diamond Ranch that will give your goalie a run for first team honors next year.

Walnut fans, Maxey was man marked by most teams that knew of her abilities, she was shut down on more than one occasion.

Hi Fred,
Will you be posting the CIF teams for soccer too?

The list was pretty well rounded and I thought you did a good job Fred. I think the goalie picks will be a little different next year, though. Without a doubt, Carly Pennington (So) will be 1st team all area. It looks like she was not looked at seriously since she had to share time with an undeserving senior goalie. Looking forward to see how SL does next year. Congratulations Lynsey Brown.

Marissa Woods was the defender out there. Ask Natalie Maxey she stop her both games Walnut played South Hills

Fred, 4 goals each game does sound pretty close . . . not! Did you see the second game against San Dimas? No one even remembers who the BP goalie was, including BP - which failed to post goalie stats.

You have no idea what makes a good gefender,MARISSA WOODS SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRST TEAM.Aand it should have not been close.

I disagree, her defense didn't help, but she made some fantastic saves. Do you remember the first time Bpark played San Dimas. I'm not sure if the Braves got a shot on goal, but the BP goalkeeper kept the game close as long as she could. It was firing practice that day.

First Valle Vista and now you. Hope you didn't base your vote for second team goalie on the Max Preps stats. Baldwin Park didn't even list a goalie on several games. Everyone knows the best goalie in Valle Vista League is Rachel Jones. Take a look next year Fred!
