Bishop Amat had a great weekend in the 35th Annual Anaheim Lions Easter Baseball Tourney winning two on Saturday from Servite and Orange Lutheran. Pitching was amazing with two complete game gems. Brady Zuniga battled Servite with a tough 3-2 victory, and in the nightcap Paul Paez pitched a gem (13 strikouts) beating highly rated Orange Lutheran 4-2. Go SGV Baseball!
Robledo says: It's true, just checked it, our No. 1 team is now 12-3. The Lancers take on Santa Margarita today at Brookhurst Park in Anaheim, 1 p.m.
UPDATE: Bishop Amat wins again, 9-1 over Santa Margarita.

Coach Nieto should finally get his props for what he has been able to do with year's squad. Many on this blog were counting them out after they began the year 2-3. They have ran off 11 consecutive wins. Many were also saying their league was weak. Well they just swept the Trinity league 3-0. Big Ups to Chris Beck for what he has been able to do with his pitching staff.

Correction to the previous story. Bishop Amat 11 Santa Margarita 1. Anthony Cuevas pitched a perfect first three innings and Brandon McNitt came in and closed it down. Too many hits to recount, and 6 double plays by the Lancers middle infield Genzuk and Bergara. Another impressive outing. Go SGV baseball!

hey "winners circle" ... not a front runner at all.Go back and check the archives when the Lancers were on the bottom in football in 05-07 and check to see who was here battling on a regular basis. And if anyone ever wanted to come on here and talk about the perils of our basketball program - I'd engage in that one too. I wasn't a very popular guy for a while among the Blue and Gold. But I AM one of those people who will say. "I told you so". I did. Coaching matters.
Which is why, My Friend, you do have hope. Gano will get you going in the right direction one way or the other. I think one of the best things he does it gets the group to believe in the program - and that's the first step. I agree that a coaches attitude determines his altitude. Especially at place with parental expectations like Damien and Amat, being able to relate to boosters is huge. They want to feel liked and a part of the equation then they'll support you to no end - and cut you a bit of slack when you get to that end. A good relationship with boosters is the proverbial "knot at the end of the rope" that FDR was talking about. It will buy the coach some time for sure.
And I do believe you have more than a "Dumb and Dumber's" chance... My Friend - you never forget a thing do 'ya !:?)

Joey are you making things complicate again?
Joey how about a "Quote of the Day" ?
I know you're a big quote guy so with so much sad news going around how about something to cheer up the room.
And Joey I think Joe Who? must have had a headache listening to Rumsfeld if he got twiste dup with your latest comment.
"There are know unknows and there are unknown unknows but what we have here is a know know that morphed into an unknown for unknown reason..that we know!"
LOL!!!

Joe Who ?..... Go back and re-read Joe's posts, Maybe you will comprehend the 2ND time around.

Joe only shows up in the winners circle. Its called a front runner, but still have to question the losses in the SGV teams and barely getting by CO.

Fred any updates on Taylor Herrera's showing this weekend at the Arcadia Invitational?
Kid can fly for sure! Cal Poly San Luis Obispo really got themselves one heck of a great kid. Over the years I've been amazed by two things with Taylor, his drive and his maturity.
You're an incredible athlete and individual Taylor. Your parents and family must be very proud of your accomplishments and scholarship. Enjoy your success...you deserve everything you got!
Sooner or later..."the cream rises to the top"! Best of luck this year, it's always a pleasure to see you perform. League Finals should be wicked!

Joey..."Karma sucks"...another Joey classic!
I've seen this phenom before. The same knuckleheads that want to "get respect" fall flat on their wallets and are no longer "happy campers". Happens all the time.
Just past thru Pete Marshall's blog and Joey wonder of all wonders....you hav eto register to post on "his" blog. Guess what happens....absolutely NO COMMENTS!!!! Seems that "stciking point" makes peopel less likely to bash away.
Another ver interesting development that apparently missed this blog is the recent "firing/letting go" of the White Haired Crazy Man Coach Gregory.
Seems the parents had a say in that "for the second time" and their was some sort of "directive" that the Principal and Gregory couldn't agree on.
What a terrible loss for Ayala and for the Sierra League. I was a big fan of Gregory's. He was old school, knew his stuff and ran a tight ship...and won alllot with what he had.
Fred how did you miss this story or maybe I missed when you cover this. Either way I thought it was big news.
Joey any thoughts on Gano? He already has energized the parents and players. One thing I like about Gano that ultimately sank Morrison is he's approachable and smiles allot. The other day he had players carrying the shute and I saw about a half dozen dads yell words of encouragement...and he smiled and shouted back!
That's a huge improvement. Damien is going to be a fun place again. Maybe this year we have better than a "Dumb and Dumber" chance of actually coming to play when the Lancers visit Sparta.
How's the Lancers look?
Posted by: Frank C | April 13, 2009 10:40 AM
wa wa wa,
Ah, you've been taking attendance?!? Sorry you missed me... of course we wouldn't know if you've been here - unless you post under "wa wa wa" all the time.
FYI- I actually posted on the day after that game. I might think that DR falls under one of the categories mentioned in my previous post. Which one do you think that was? The boasting after that 12-11 extra inning affair at the little league park hasn't gotten the Panthers much. Has DR won since that night?
The Lancers apparently fit into another category. They were humbled and went back to work and have improved.
And what exactly did you take offense to when I wrote,
"...We've seen teams that can be REALLY good - also be really bad. You have to bring it every day. Or it could be one of those days. And it could be the next outing. You can't just show up. We've seen that anyone can beat anyone..."
DR was one of those "anyones". Props to them for taking care of things that night. Now that we're in the same playoff division, maybe there will be a rematch. Oops...sorry... maybe not.

Joe Amat! go blow your own horn some other place. You were no where to be found when Amat lost to Diamond Ranch! go suck an egg! better yet...never mind.

A couple "interesting" posts from last week that I want to remind those posters of when Fred put Amat back on top of the SGV:
"...Amats sucks in baseball and they wouldn't beat NV, or Bonita at any time during the season..
Your league is a BIG JOKE! We'll see next week what happens!

************
All the amat fans that want to pump sunshine, remember, the Lions tournament starts Saturday and we shall see how good this YOUNG Amat team actually is.
Posted by: jcaz is right!!! WAIT!!! | April 8, 2009 6:40 AM
I guess we found out this weekend that they are getting better and, at times, they can be pretty darn good.
What *everyone on every team* needs to all remember is the old saying, "It's never as good as it seems and it's never as bad as it seems" It's usually somewhere in between. But what they also need to remember is that *it could be*... Both! We've seen teams that can be REALLY good - also be really bad. You have to bring it every day. Or it could be one of those days. And it could be the next outing. You can't just show up. We've seen atht anyone can beat anyone... almost.
We've also seen teams (in baseball AND softball) that come on recently shouting for "respect" (and calling out Fred). We've also seen those teams turn around and drop a couple during that very same week. Some in a pretty bad fashion. Those posters and teams know who they are. Lesson learned? Karma sucks.
BTW - ken huth... where are you?

I saw that look on September 12th at Orange Coast CC when the Lancers upended OLU 47-39. HOW SWEET IT IS.

Nice Job Amat with two wins over OC teams. Although both Servite and Lutheran are down this year (Servite is 6-10) (Lutheran is 10-5- but being beat up by people in their losses). It's still a nice weekend. What's up with Servite? Haven't been the athletic powerhouse they were in the 70's and 80's. Good test today vs. Santa Margarita.

It is absolutely true, Amat played very well on Saturday beating two quality teams in Servite and Orange Lutheran respectively, and what can you say about the pitching it was tremendous. Both Paez and Zuniga each gave up a two run HR early in each game and instead of dwelling on it it seemed to fire them up and they both put the clamps down on the hitters of the respective teams they faced.
A true testament to how well you as a pitcher are pitching is when you see the opposing coaching staff with their hands in their back pockets seemingly unable to come up with an answer as to how to deal with the situation at hand, well that is exactly what the Orange Lutheran coaching staff was doing and stunned look on the parents faces told the whole story, Paez just dominated.
