Softball: If you took away the pitcher, who has the area's best team?
While discussing all-area and player of the year on another thread, you realize how important a dominating pitcher is to the success of your team. But let me ask you this: If you took away the pitcher from the equation, who has the best softball team in the area? Who is the most complete from a defensive and offensive standpoint. In other words, using reigning player of the year Diana-Lynn Patterson as an example, if you put Patterson on (blank) team, they would become the best in the area.

Cut erica a break. I play against her in travel ball and she doesn't even pitch for them. Her primary postions are first and third and that is what she is going to play in college. Not pitch.
Sorry LA Fan I did forget the hitting. The question of eliminating all the #1 pitchers and which team would rise to the top is darn good question. I guess the reason I left it out, was the failure rate of 70% in hitting. Since the failure rate is lower in defense, and pitching is defense, I guess I leaned towards the defensive nature of the teams.
Baseball/Softball has such a huge failure rate in the offensive part of the game unlike any other sport, that it raises more questions than answers.
Take away the top pitchers, and you would think, well, the hitting should improve dramatically, but it's not always the case. Then just when you think you have every player hitting, like a dream come true, the defense fails!
It's surprising more coaches are not total drunks.
Good question Fred. Well, it seems that most of these teams are so dependent on their pitcher that it's hard to say. Take SD, for instance, I saw the Glendora game and after they got to Courtney, it was over. And even though Glendora's pitcher was great, they won because their bats are hot. I guess to answer this question, you have to look at the teams who have lost their pitchers and are solely relying on a team effort. What teams are consistently staying in the top ten but, don't have the likes of Waldusky, Patterson, etc...could it be BA: Ariel Whiteman is good enough but, she's not Patterson caliber. Maybe, (and I hate to say this, you have no idea) it's Bonita, that truly appears to be a team effort. And, although they are trading off on the ten spot, both Northview and Covina had huge pitching losses with Fraijo and Huntsman but, they are both hitting well and able to maintain, for the most part, on the field. I don't know, I guess the game would be rather boring without a handful of skilled pitchers to give everyone a run for their money and something to shoot for...good luck finding the answer to this question.
Jake, well said, but you forgot you also need a team that can hit!
Tough question but a good one, Take away the #1 pitcher on every team and the one that may surface might be Glendora.
There are some fine pitchers in the area like Clark from SD, Ramirez from Azusa, Patterson from LA, Waldusky from Glendora, Gonzales from Arroyo, Izumida from Gabrileno, Flores from Sierra Vista, and others.
Defense makes pitchers dominating for the most part. Since any pitcher can be hit at one time or another, it really take the defense to make those stop little bunts, or bloop hits or that diving catch.
FredJ, you said the only dominating pitcher you remember was Christy Tucker??
Do you remember Marcel Torres?
Fred I am glad you said players and not pitchers.
I don't need to justify it, she's obviously one of the top players and in the running again.
Fred,
Let me try again if you put a picture of bugs bunny on this page enough times at some point I will become a bugs bunny fan.
Fred,
I think you have missed the point its like you are trying to justify a back to back pick for player of the year?
fredinsane.
Her choice not to come to pac10 or west coast or the south teams. She is very Happy with her choice WMU why cant you just be happy with that??Its her life not yours or ours to judge!
The last super dominating pitcher I remember around here was Charter Oak's Christy Tucker. That was so long ago. I would love for another pitcher like that come around in the SGV
I think you missed the entire point. She was an example, the last time I checked, I didn't see an overwhelming pitcher in our area. Lots of good ones, but not any I would call, "dominating." Stevie R., tells me the last dominating pitcher he remembers is Wilson's Jamee Juarez from earlier this decade.
Fred please stop your killing me, one week your my hero and the next you pull this stunt. Please tell us whats going on in that whacked out head of yours?DL is not the only good pitcher in the area even when she loses you some how find an excuse and hype her up some more.why isn't she going to the pac ten or some local power on the west coast if she was all that and a bag of potato chips.Stop already we've had enough find a new pitcher to cling on to please..............................
Yeah i agree , i think Diamond Bar would benefit the most. However, Erica Miller is a quality pitcher, just not much depth at the moment. They have freshman Julie Walters who will be very good in another yr(5'10) transfer from Washington.Another plus DB has is its youth, which is very young, this will be a team in 2 yrs.
FredJ, wow great question, cause besides pitching if you put Patterson on teamX you just brought someone batting .493 to the table what a plus I think CO/Diamond Bar would benefit the most, why CO cause I think if they had a quality pitcher there team would have it all, there team struggling and the caoches have just not helped there team!
SaintsR4real, did you forget about the game you just played on Saturday. I think the whoopin you took from Glendora is proof enough. Now tell us all what happen to the TOTAL DEFENSE AND OFFENSE?????
This is easy, Diamond Bar without a doubt. That's all they're missing is pitching, they have everything else. Give Patterson a purple uniform and they win CIF
SAN DIMAS!!
TOTAL DEFENSE AND OFFENSE POWERHOUSE.
PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG!
