After reading the more recent comments, some of the LA haters were questioning VC. Let me give you a few more number on her. She was batting over .600 in league before the Wilson game. She went 3 for 4 with two singles and one triple. Now the one thing you can hold against her, is she doesn't have to face the best pitching in the area.

While Brit is a good hitting player her defense still has a way to go she gets away with a lot of things in the San Antonio that she wouldn't be able to do in the big leagues.A lot of kids get hits off DL so don't get so excited.Player of the year maybe in a couple years but not yet.

Your right, she is a good player. A very good one at that. But GG came out and said she should be player of the year, "Hands Down!". Which was kind of funny to me. Let's be honest here. You have to be on one of the top teams to get player of the year. South Hills in no where near Los Altos or Glendora. For example, Vanessa Bracamonte from Wilson is a flat out stud. Look at her numbers through out her career. There up there with the best. Does that mean she should get player of the year. Absolutely not! But your right, Brittany is a very good player who will continue to get better and probaly will get player of the year in her near future. I wish her nothing but the best as I do all players. But c'mon, player of the year? Not yet!

Then you know every player makes errors, has a bad game, or gets a taste of the spotlight on them and gets challenged. The legit players know, from experience, that everyone's watching them and expecting them to deliver. Everybody's kid has been there. Most of us know it's tough and they feel the pressure. They move on hopefully and come back stronger than ever. No personal feud here at all, at least not from me. I agree with your post for the most part. Can't speak for all, but just saw what I saw and commented...thought that's what was asked on this thread.... The best in the SGV will get their props and be noticed on the good days AND bad days...either way...even in the papers. Just a fact. Tell her to clip and read what makes her and her parents happy if she can't stay away on her own or handle it.

Sorry to dissapoint but I have no daughter playing. I've been around the softball scene for 18 years working with young athletes and I know how things go. I've seen parents and coaches rip into their players when they make an error. Do you honestly think the girl really wanted to make the mistake, strike out, get caught stealing? And if you think telling the girls to not read the blog will help you are dreaming. Ever tell a young child to not touch a hot stove? This blog was meant to discuss softball topics and for part of it I have seen that. Discuss the games, talk about great plays or performances. Stay positive. For the few who tend to dominate the blog with their personal fued I ask, do you argue with your spouse in front of your kids or do you take it to a seperate area to spare them the pain? Please, spare us all and take it outside (of the blog).

#1LA FAN some of the talented girls in the area can't help the teams or league they play in. If they are that good then they should dominate in there league or be the stud for there team. I'm sure that if it was all about being on the best team in the area, LA, Glendora, CO, would have lines around the corner waiting for girls to get in. You have to look at the player in whole and is she doing what she is suppose to do for her team. This was a loaded question by Fred because there are some really good players all around and he has a tough job in picking the "The Best".
Just a note Arrant against Cresenta Valley batted .500, she was the only one who got a hit.

With the build-up and campaigning comes the expectations... sorry. She shouldn't read the blogs anyway and isn't this thread to recommend the best of the best in the SGV? That means watching the games, commenting on the good plays, and acknowledging the bad. Get over it and keep her away from the blogs. Everyone's kid has made errors and been criticized. I feel for these girls if they read these blogs because most of you with your idiot rants make things so much tougher on them. 6 hours of school, 2-3 hours of practice and then homework. These athletes have more to worry about than what you clowns think of them.

To all of you athletes - just focus on whats important. I've seen many of you play and have followed the others through outside sources so I am not an expert on any of you. Yumi and Ariel deserve the nod from SD. True leaders and don't need to prove anything to anybody. They're legit.

"saintsgirls4real2", I agree with your comment on Yumi Hiroto from SD. She is not getting any pub at all. As for your comment about Courtney Hine, are you serious? Decent fielder (she dropped an easy foul ball against Glendora). The only time she gets any meaningful hits is when SD plays the bottom of their league. Put her against any decent picture her BA drops about 250 points. Call 'em like I see 'em.

I have been silent for weeks, due to Fred's personal agenda (Gano). But I decided to speak out on this one. We all know my opinion of Gano, and I don't see that changing in the near future. I been to at least 75% of LA's games and going to tell it the way I see it. I haven't seen a better glove on any team at SS than CG's. This is coming from a guy that don't like the dad and I know the daughter don't like me, but she is flat out the best SS I have seen all year. She is also batting .447.

Now DL, as we all know she has pitched against some of the best pitchers in CIFSS and keep her team in every game and won most of them with an ERA of 0.93. No other pitcher in SGV has pitch against the competition that DL has. Defensively she hasn’t commented a single error all year, great glove. She is currently batting .493.

The third one is VC, once again excellent glove; she has commented only one error all year. She is currently batting .383, with a team leading slugging percentage of .600.

The first thing all you LA haters are going to throw out there are your kids with bigger numbers. Now let's throw in strength of schedule. DL is pitching against some of the best players in CIFSS, these girls are batting against some of the best pitchers in CIFSS. No team in the SGV has played at the level of competition that LA has played, and it isn't even close.

The recognition is nice, but does it show how well they will perform in college? Take for instance, Hannah Fraijo, originally struggled a bit at Cal State Northridge, getting used to Division 1 ball. Just this week was named Big West Pitcher of the Week. Went 2-0 with 0.00 ERA in Series Sweep over UC Riverside, over 11 innings. She was athlete of the year last year, if i recall correctly, after coming in 2nd to DL as Pitcher of the Year. I still think she should have had it.

However, lets look at Jessica Traxler, from Bishop. She was the big stud last year right? made first team all valley. signed at Chattanooga Tennessee. Not a starter there, but ok, as a freshman, not totally surprising. However, is hitting only .151 and is third in team strikeouts. What's up with that?

Any Amy Lwn? How is she doing at Riverside? Brittany Gallegos? Anybody know?

Facts:
Its hard to consider anyone from the valle vista league.Take the saints for instance every time they venture outside there little league and play a big name opponent they get smashed and then the excuses start to come out those stats are so inflated by weaker than weak teams and they know it.What have there big guns done against quality teams?

Gotta say that while I am a saint I think the Waldusky pick is right on. Love Nolan too although Yumi Huroto is an amazing hitter and deserves some recognition. Ariel Shore should be a no brainer or to quote the Covina coach "she is the fastest person on earth that we have seen." Well over 100 stolen bases in her high school career now. Someone also mentioned Courtney Hine - Little known but talented sophmore from San Dimas with a great bat and excellent fielding skills. Look for her to be a total force to be reconned with over the next two years.

Performance against the better teams should be a factor to consider. Something to consider if you're looking at MaxPreps. Most are consistent and should make the cut on their own merits.

same ole, same ole, of course that is the way it is. they nominate courtney gano too. why? cause she verbaled to pac10. that is only cause of the travel team she plays on and her coach (M) makes them all verbal early and he has washington in his pocket with his contacts there. she dont play short on the team either, stephanie larosa does, who also verbaled, to ucla. steph is a true stud. but because cg is on the favored LA and is greg ganos dd, will be nominated and make team, even if there are better defenseive infielders with higher btg avgs.

What's up with CONTRERAS being nominated? Oh, I see...it's all the LA folks suggesting her. Come on, the girl is barely hitting overall .380. That's what you call "A STICK"???? Take a look at other outfielders.... Vanessa Molina (South Hills) .537, Ariel Shore (San Dimas) .530 Courtney Hine (SD).431. And if you consider players that play have played both the infield and outfield, Jazzmin Arrant (Covina) is hitting .615

bonita plays at some little park down the st. from my house, the field dosent even have a fence .my god why dont they go to the la verne little league and play there, at less its a nice field with a fence to homer at..got off my reason why am talking about girls softball,if i had a girl instead of my son k.c. you bet i would be cheering for girls softball i love the game.. but twice the centerfielder for bonita went 3for3 both games i saw with a nice homer to right field plus she stoled a base popped up on the over throw and took third base with a aweson head first slide.i was impressed with her all around fill of the game.by far the best baseball player on that team from what i saw in those two games..go get them bearcats

La Rosa is one of only two SGV players so far and probably only will be verbal led or committed to the coveted PAC TEN in softball. That I know of?

back in the eighties there were 2 years in a row a shortstop was player of the year, 87-mvp 88-co mvp. shortstop from charter oak,right after julie smith left.

I have to admit, I haven't seen La Rosa this year, but I saw her as a freshman and was mighty impressed. Just from a physical standpoint she already looked like a junior or senior.

Player of The Year: Patterson (LA) she is the most complete player in the area.

Infield: Gano (LA), La Rosa (DB), Hernandez (Glendora), Stewart (DR).

Outfield: Contreras (LA), Shore (SD), Sandoval (Bonita)

Catcher: Nolan (Glendora)

Pitcher: Waldusky (Glendora), Wurst (Bonita)

BTW, I always have been in favor of a pitcher and player of the year award for baseball and softball, but it applies more in softball, because you're right, a field player hardly ever wins.

I would have to look that up, I'm not sure, last year was my first year here after five years at the Star-News. I picked a field player once, her name was Jenny Belak of La Salle. She went on to play at Maryland. She was a leadoff hitter, the school's stolen base leader and almost lasted the entire season without a strikeout. She had an unbelievable on-base percentage and was on one of the area's top teams. See, it happens.

The answer to that is when did I ever say a field player is not considered. However, a pitcher does have an advantage because of their huge influence in each and every game.

CW has a better ERA then DL and yes both have are even this year against each other. Not trying to take anything away from DL Clearly should be on the list for utility as we know she can play any where and with a strong stick.

Some of your picks are no brainers but others are insane. So you seriously believe that bonita has done this well with no All area players?So ERA means nothing you would think in order to be all area you would have to at least be leading your league in ERA or Batting Avg.

Steve Ramirez and I choose the teams after carefully going over all-league teams and talking too as many coaches as we can. How a team does in league and CIF also plays a big role. Stats don't play as big a part as you think since so many teams do not update stats and because they're misleading anyway, depending on opponents and strength of league. It's not as hard as you think to identify the best players, but it is difficult when you get down to the final cuts.

I'm afraid. Soooo afraid. Would never put any players name on any of these blogs to have them put down by a bunch of "adults". Hopefully, Fred, if any of your bloggers are brave enough to make recommendations, they will just write their POSITIVE comments about their recommended players, and not comment NEGATIVELY about any of the others players that are recommended by other bloggers.

My question though fred, is how exactly is the Area team selected? Thru these recommendations on the blog? Thru coach nominations? Thru maxpreps numbers? For instance, take an outfielder at a school that is perhaps at not Los Altos, or Bonita, and her BA is around .550...with no errors. Does she get considered? Or does her coach have to "talk her up"? Or for instance, would an outfielder, say for instance, one at Los Altos, with a batting average of .300, and not as good a fielding percentage, get the nod because of the press the school has gotten so far? (Please, parents, I am NOT picking on any LA outfielders...I just picked a position and a school that has gotten alot of press...yes, they have a winning record and that's why the press but the point being the question I'm asking goes for outfield, infield, catchers, etc...)

Who selects the team? You? Or coaches, as they do in "All-League"?

I'm not being factitious...just really curious.
