Softball: Covina, Bonita get big victories
Covina wins!: It was the type of game that could do wonders for a youthful team. Covina High School softball coach Joe Brown hopes so. Molly Ross hit a home run and scored two runs and Jennifer Vargas drew a bases-loaded walk to score Anabel De Casas in the seventh inning as the host Colts rallied to score a 6-5 victory over rival Northview in a Valle Vista League game on Wednesday. Covina, getting two hits each from Ross, Candice Orozco and Chelsea Whisenant, improved to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in league play. The Vikings, who received three hits and an RBI from Heather Harrison and a home run from Aundria Solis, slipped to 5-5 and 2-2.

Beat L.A., Beat L.A.: Bonita High School became a major bump in the road for Los Altos in the Conquerors' quest for a fourth consecutive Miramonte League softball championship. The Bearcats went extra innings before scoring an unearned run in the top of the ninth for a 1-0 victory Wednesday afternoon. The win moved the Bearcats (13-2, 3-1) into a first-place tie with the Conquerors (9-4, 3-1) It also avenges an earlier 6-4 loss to the Conquerors. "To come into their camp and take the best team in our division, you can't take that away from our team," Bearcats first-year coach Ken Carlson said. "We're not done, they're not done. I guess we've just set the stage for an exciting third game back at our place."

Did you know: That of all the stats reported to MaxPreps, San Dimas' Yumiko Hiroto, a 5-foot-5 senior catcher, is the area's leading hitter. Hiroto has 18 hits in 29 at-bats for a whopping .621 average. She has eight RBI's, two doubles, a triple and home run.

What happened time to bite those tongues and eat some of that $hit you've been talking next time you two make a prediction or ridiculous comments like these make sure you leave your real name it would be nice to put the Jack a$$ of the blog world with a face.
Fred-
How close do you think this game is going to be? just wondering..I think LA wins this with no problem the way there pitching and hitting and just think, I don't think there playing on all cylinders.. that's scary for the Miramonte league teams..I hope Bonita does better then last time and I'm sure there getting better.Lets see if they put in a different pitcher against LA..Cause I'm sure they'll change up there infield..
Posted by: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Bonita is overated! Saw them against Walnut and they should've lost. If Walnut would've hit the ball in key times they would have won. Either they are overated or Walnut is underated. Walnut left 4 runners in scoring position and just lost 3-2.

BA FAN
Roxy does start on her own travelball team but its only because her mom kisses but and has her own hitting cage in the backyard. Her travelball coach likes that. She likes parents who kiss her butt. Whats the name? California Thunder? Yea!

heard you say this before but Ill take a pass on the BA catcher lacks the size and stick for me .325 with 8ks who cares 13 hits not bad in a good league sorry Roxy for me.

Support,
you say ROXY is a stud ? check out max preps for the last 2 years of stats. she did lead the team in one category, "STRIKEOUTS" and well on her way this year. I've heard she's not the starting catcher on her travel ball team. Heard she lost it to a sophmore from BISHOP. now you say she's a stud.

Fred, you need a Bonita & Los Altos breakdown and blog just for them. They are the only 2 teams that matter right now. Don't bother covering the rest of the teams in the area for the rest of the season. Just put all yor focus on these 2 teams and you'll be talking Pulitzer Baby! Your next blog title should be: As the Softball World Turns or The Bonita, Los Altos Chronicles, better yet, The Never Ending Story of Bonita & Los Alots Softball (with special guest apperance from Charter Oak).

I really don't think as you nicely put it ("I have to believe that their big stud quitting must have taken its toll on the team")That, that was the problem you idiot! She wasn't the whole team. This is a team sport you know that right? I'm sure your not a Bearcat fan so if you don't like what you see stay home! Go find to balls to play with!!

So what's your point? Steve hailed CO! Come on you call that a hail that's about the only good thing he has said about CO in years and your going to cry about it! So they had a bad day and. Are you telling me that nobody has a bad games? Is your team that perfect that they don't lose. Or are you just bored and feel like bashing. You go out there and try it and see how well you can do!!!
Posted by: ok and | April 3, 2009 11:57 AM
LD,
Roxy is a stud from what I here no one works harder whoever gets her at the next level is one lucky team.
Posted by: support | April 3, 2009 11:53 AM
Charter Oak had a lot of fans out at the game vs. Bonita yesterday. It was an eerie feeling they looked a bit confused like how could this be happening we are the hitters its not supposed to be this way. I have to believe that their big stud quitting must have taken its toll on the team.

stats huh'
!!!!!!!!!!
Facts: for last years centerfielder (Amber)that was usually a routine play for her. many plays were her diving, scooping come up throwing, she was an awesome cneterfielderFACT! LA's cf and lf are young, your opinion? every team has young players fact. the 2 balls hit hard were not DL's best pitch, we know we got lucky on the flat pitch! I think you also were the one to say MG was good kid, your right about that but stat's that you are so interested in keeping should be looked at closely for co, if our stat guy had his was she would be batting 1000 with no errors but we know better.. how do I know I've watched many of our games against LA, were you out in lf in yesterday's game? Fact, as you say my opinion.

First of all Steve R. from the Tribune hailed Charter Oak as the BEST HITTING TEAM IN THE VALLEY. Now as for your last 2 games, where were the hits. .192 BA aganist LA (DL can do that to any team)
No runs against Bonits (you lost that game might be 2 weeks before we see stats). I'm not questioning there overall stats, I'm sure they are legit. But your last 2 games all your big guns got shut down. you can't blame your pitching when you don't hit or score runs.

Them stats are right So don't even go there. Everybody has a bad day. It's the pitching thats killing that team and the 2 idiot coaches that give up on them once they score runs on them. They don't know how to coach the girls without yelling and negative attitudes that progam needs a change. A big time change!!!

Like I said before why all the negative??? I know this is a great place to criticize but all I keep reading is VENTING... Remember a lot of kids read these blogs, so try to be an adult about it.
Again Lady Bearcats, Great Job, stay focused and play hard till the end, and don't stress about the adults in here letting out some steam, it's just HOT AIR.
I must say I am glad my kids don't play softball though, this is pretty heated, and I am sure it happens in other sports too but man this is a tough crowd.

why is it only bonita parents on here praising their kids stats constantly?.get over it.she isnt the only one who can hit a ball, steal on error. stop talking about it you might jinx her. call ESPN if you think anyone cares.

Get a clue-
You hit it on the nose..softball 101 and your right you do exactly what you said..I dont have a kid but I do support SGV softball..anything could've of happen if they would've bunted her over..especially if she K'd a couple times why not ask her go bunt..or get someone who can the bunt sigh was never given that's where he got in trouble..But four hits aint going to cut it if you want to win.. give credit to CW she did a good job..And if Mike was smart he would've given someone an error and if it was the catcher let be..It's okay it wont be the last one she makes..All you can say I hope she learns from it and it make her a better player in the future..
Posted by: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! | April 3, 2009 9:27 AM
Fred, no one cares about walnut and the San Antonio League I realize you are trying to be politically correct but if were going to keep this paper afloat you need to get with the program and report on stories that are hot. Don't make me go to the big boss. I know he's sporting the green and gold right now but I'll do it.lol

telling bonita parents to stay off this blog is like like throwing a grenade in the camp fire. Whoever is advising you on how to deal with parents I would fire their a_s.
Posted by: Foolio | April 3, 2009 8:59 AM
hey ken carlson, coaching 101,dont tell parents what to do,your job is to coach between the lines, not the parents. dont like the blog, dont read it.obviously the negative tone of it has not affected your players.that being said,Keep up the good work, you are doing a great job, your record speaks for itself.
Posted by: aformercoach | April 3, 2009 8:58 AM
hey angry guessing you are 1 of the bad eggs i mentioned.calm down i have nothing but praise for your players its you parents who are out of control.
Posted by: ghsfan | April 3, 2009 8:49 AM
ghsfan don't chime in where your not wanted just remember to stay west of San dimas canyon and we don't have a problem consider yourself lucky right about now. Go high jack someone else s blog.
Posted by: angrybch | April 3, 2009 8:46 AM
hey rk, dont know your kid but gotta agree. your kid has 1 bad game and she goes from a starter to permanent bench.i looked at stats, she aint only kid with more than a couple of errors.have they all been exiled to the bench?if my old memory serves me right wasnt it your outfielder (one getting all praise this week),that dropped that ball in san dimas tournament allowing glendora extra run to win the game? no he cant sit everyone for making errors nearly whole team would be on bench no one left to play.dont understand coaches philosophy on this subject. i sure hope your kid gets another chance.but if i can be blunt badmouthing your coach on this blog probably not a wise idea.i dont know his personality but he may just continue to bench your kid for sins of the father. go talk to him in private.
Posted by: sgvalley | April 3, 2009 8:44 AM
?
Your the home team it should have ended there.
softball 101 a lead off double you bunt her over to third that's a no brainer if the starting 9 can't bunt you go to the bench and you tell the kid you get the bunt down period. After that anything can happen, a pass ball,a fly ball a grounder to the right side, a squeeze option with one out, a slap and run, man the options are endless. If the kid in the box is the only one that is hitting you would probably think that the other team knows it as well so letting her swing away the coach is not gonna give her anything to hit with first base open that run means nothing now.throw her away make her pop up or chase.
Posted by: getaclue | April 3, 2009 8:37 AM
man i know a few bonita families and i gotta think their are some bad eggs on that team are giving a bad rep to the team as a whole.your coach really had to tell you to stay off the blog?? what is this, kindegarten? i have no doubt that if glendora and bonita had a rematch, the results could be different from the SD tourney.bonita is getting better and better everyday. The bearcats are doing so great and believe it , most are happy about your success.real adults dont want to see anyone fail, your kid or not.I hope bonita continues to have a great season regardless of all of this back biting. come on parents grow up.you should be celebrating your teams success not bickering about garbage that means nothing.
Posted by: ghsfan | April 3, 2009 8:24 AM
I know these blogs are here to let us express our frustrations and give praise, but WTF, why does it have to be so negative most of the time??? Specially when talking about OTHER teams???
Great job Lady Bearcats, keep playing hard till the very end. We all know there will be hurdles along the way but the best way to get over them is with great leadership and TEAM UNITY...

WAY TO GO BONITA!!! THAT'S THE WAY TO PUT THE SMACK DOWN ON TEAMS. LOOING AT THESE POST IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE OTHER TEAMS ARE AFRAID OF A LITTLE COMPETITION. KEEP IT GIRLS. THEY WIN, ALL THE PRAISE AND GLORY. THEY LOOSE, NOTHING BUT EXCUSES....WOW, THEY NEED TO FACE THE FACT THAT YOU CAN'T BE ON TOP FOREVER.
Posted by: BIG DADDY | April 3, 2009 7:48 AM
Bonita - stop the drama. You should be on cloud 9 after the the program's biggest win in years. Congrats to the team and Coach Carlson. Keep up the good work and make BHS proud. Parents - time to realize the team is not about you, it's about the student athletes!!
Posted by: Just a Fan | April 3, 2009 7:45 AM
!!!!!!!,
Are you saying that there's no doubt that LA would of won if they would of bunted in that situation? If i'm not mistaken, I think the 9 batter was 0 for 3 with 3k's. The one batter was also 0 for 3 with 2k's. Oh yeah, the 8 batter was 1 for 2 with nice line drive in her previous at bat. Bonita decided not to bunt in that situation as well. It all came down to errors. #19 got to second on a error. Then she got to 3rd on a error. Then she scored on a error. Enough Said!
Posted by: ? | April 2, 2009 10:42 PM
I have no problem admitting I was wrong about #19 of the Bearcats, she has been the most improved player on both sides of the field, I like her better when she dosn't slap, she has a nice swing. She has made a few highlight reel plays on defense this year.

Posted by: lafan | April 2, 2009 8:21 PM
Congrats and What Sweet vindication for the sophomore center fielder #19 for Bonita to go 3 for 4 against the queen of the valley and score the winning run on a steal. Didn't look like she needed a butterfly net today. The Bonita inside haters are biting their tongues right about now. Good thing for Bonita that coach Carlson believed in her talent to keep her in the line up just a few weeks ago the haters couldn't stop the bashing. Someone even lied and said she was 0 for 9 against Patterson but truthfully the kid is 6 for 14 and three walks against the tribunes player of the year not bad for a kid the Bonita parents thought should be on JV and was only there because of daddy ball, oh wait it gets even better the kid is second maybe even first once today’s stats are imputed in the league in batting OMG can it be true Gooden quit out of first so Sandoval in second and on a roll and for you people who lie and don’t know how to use a computer here’s the link remember its league that counts.
www.maxpreps.com/california/softball/miramonte/leaderboard_list.aspx?leagueid=78174c7a-5661-4e42-be21-06f5985c6c7f&urpath=,list&gamefilter=league

You would think that if you are a coach trying to motivate your players, when you have a 9-0 lead after two innings, you might throw a bone to your senior who has been lacking in confidence and has hardly played and who you have shown absolutely no confidence in by trying to get her in the game, I guess her season is over. When you call a parents meeting, include all parents, whether you want them there or not, I guess you can punish her for my writing, Oh thats right, she doesn't play anyway
Posted by: Robert K | April 2, 2009 6:48 PM
Hey Fred Bonita dismantled CO today this game was over from the first pitch whats that do to your ranking inquiring minds want to know?
Posted by: inquiringminds | April 2, 2009 6:36 PM
Hey !!!!!!
your pretty quiet and forgiving on the errors today. I guess when your daughter, I mean your source goes 0-5 with 3 strikeouts leaving runners in scoring position each time it would change anyones tune, especially when she makes a terrible throw to 3rd, that ball was on the foul side of the bag.... then when the left fielder redeems herself with a throw that clearly had the winning run out by 10 feet she drops it?
So I guess that's why your not asking Mike for the facts, and don't blame the coaching cause they cant bunt for them, your at the game's and know buntings not LA's best part of the game, yet

Conquer fan,
Why would the third basemen be thinking bunt with one out and the power hitter of all power hitters up to bat Bachmans stats show she's either going to k or hit a bomb your short stop was leaning towards second and deep the throw from the Bonita side looked to be on the mark Roxy's a great player and deserves more credit somebody has to be there. At the next level the third basemen better be there.

sbfan-
You can say it was the SS for not getting there in time..the 3rd basemen thinking she was going to bunt which she didn't, or the catch for throwing the ball..an error is an error..not blaming no one it's going to happen it's part of the game..you hate to see a game end like that but hey it happens..We all remember what happen at the last game with Bonita's errors..look they redeem themselves and a good thing happened for them after that.. And I'm sure LA will learn from this and try to do the same next time they meet..bottom line if you don't score more then the other team you don't win..LA had there chances and coaching staff decided to go a different route and bit them in the Butt.. I personally thought they were going to pitch someone else..But hey CW pitch a great game and shut down LA to only 4 hits..very impressive..Bonita coach made some good calls and it worked out..Like I said Bonita wanted it more and they were more aggressive and won the game..no excuses from LA, they'll take the lost and work harder..I'm sure they'll be okay..

well said
!!!!!!!!!
is your source the catchers mom? cuz it seems as if someones on here saying the 3rd baseman was asleep. ok to put that to rest we will say she was sleeping just to give her someone to blame. but if she was then why did the catcher throw it? she shouldve held onto the ball right? i think yould agree there right?catcher shouldve known better! but instead ss was on her way to get the ball,a good throw mightve had her, maybe not? catcher made the bad throw. only one parent has come out to defend the play, maybe hers, she also tried to say the throw was high, then came out to say she was low on the tag not the catch.Catcher had no business being low if she shouldve been jumping for the throw.right i think yould agree with me there? errors happen you live to play another day.

What's the purpose of any blog? This is where people share opinions, good and bad, that's what a blog is. Don't take it so seriously.
Posted by: FredJ | April 2, 2009 12:45 PM
Fred,
Really! What's the purpose of this blog? This should be about the girls and the girls only. What has HS sports come to? Two teams with really great student-athletes battle a tough game out there yesterday and all we have to show for it is parents bickering back and forth. Seriously, I'm embarresed. No one should be insulted here. There should be no blame. What are we teaching our girls by having this blog?

No more hand signals were going high tech just purchased 14 ear plug radio receivers that the secret service use all players will have them embedded into their helmets.

Congrats Bonita on your BIG WIN against LA..YOU should be proud of yourselves..That the way you redeem your self..you should be easily 2-0 against them but hey a win is a win..and take this one and enjoy it..Don't let these other tell you differently.. Good pitching and clutch hitting and definitely good call from the coach to steal 3rd..I think LA got out coach in someway..The better and more aggressive team won..I think somebody was sleeping at third..I'm sure LA feels the same way you guys did with all the errors and that's not a good feeling..And I'm sure they'll learn from it and it will make them better..Don't count LA out yet..And Bonita make sure no one is sitting out in the outfield so there will be no excuses next time. (hand signals)You girls are better then that..

Great Job Covina!! That was the way to play, showing your heart and not giving up. Both teams played a good game. Hats off to Northview, the next matchup will be even tougher I'm sure. Keep working hard girls.
Posted by: BIG DADDY | April 2, 2009 10:04 AM
Listen LA, the fact you can't win if you don't score and for 9 innings, you did not score. Give it up for the BHS pitcher. I don't know if NHS was stealing signs although 1 unearned run in 9 innings would suggest it didn't matter too much. No exuse for it and I hope it is not true, but it did not effect the outcome!! Should be a great game 3!!

Posted by: AnotherLAFan | April 1, 2009 10:10 PM
OK you got me Bonita won because some guy was giving signals to the batters on the pitch locations and that's why they won probably why the errors were made to some type of distractions could have been the earths gravitational pull 2 degrees to the north today.
Posted by: cracker | April 1, 2009 10:03 PM
paranoid coach you say? didnt the blue go over to them? and not vice versa? bonita parents are even admitting to it? why cant you?

maybe what color were my eyes?
Posted by: awhole | April 1, 2009 9:43 PM
paranoid coach pointed it out to the blue reaching for the moon looking for an excuse, coached himself out of the game too too bad.

Posted by: disappointed | April 1, 2009 9:36 PM
no one in the world especially the batter could see any hand signals for pitch location from that far

Posted by: cracker | April 1, 2009 9:19 PM
answer my question...if it was a high throw then why was she ready for a low tag? the ball shouldve never touched her glove if as you say she was low and the ball was thrown high! her feet were planted! quit blaming the left fielder for your kids E

I am a bonita parent,i was one of them who seen the play! yes it was in fair territory no doubt about that, but it was a throwing error none the less. so i actually think youll be losing this one!
your left fielders throw was there, right on the money, catcher dropped it plain and simple! if it was a high throw why was the catcher in a low position? she shouldve been jumping, both feet were planted!
Posted by: sb fan | April 1, 2009 9:01 PM
blue saw it, we saw it
Posted by: get a clue | April 1, 2009 8:59 PM
how the fk is he gonna let the batter know where the pitch is going from behind the fence in center field idiot?
Posted by: duh' | April 1, 2009 8:56 PM

i gotta admit i was a little embarrased to be a bearcat at that point!
Bonita fan
adjusting your outfield actually does mean something, lets you know if the pitchers throwing inside or out.bottom line, for it being obvious enough that the blue noticed its wrong! no ifs ands or buts
Posted by: disappointed | April 1, 2009 8:53 PM
sb fan your gonna lose this argument the Bonita parents had the best view and the ball was fielded in fair territory if you want to give an error give to the left fielder for the high throw to home.
Posted by: AnotherLAFan | April 1, 2009 8:50 PM

3rd basemen was playing up,bunt or not. ss had to dive for the catchers ball and still missed it. throwing error on the catcher, it ends up in left field! how are you going to say it shouldve been ss error? no way.
by the way look at max preps seems im not the only one to think that, we were fortunate this time, not putting you down.I know alot of your own parents agreed, you could tell by their reactions.
like i said overall it was a great game, couldve really gone either way!
Posted by: sb fan | April 1, 2009 8:44 PM
sgv softball fan stealing what signs where to position the outfield oh' that really made a differece in the game lay of the crk ppe dude its clotting your brain cells.
Posted by: bonitafan | April 1, 2009 8:43 PM
NO walnut here Coach Gano was truly missed in that dugout today can't imagine him not bunting in that situation, to many years of experience. First year varsity coach a rookie mistake.
Posted by: AnotherLAFan | April 1, 2009 8:37 PM
bonita good game but do you really need your parent in left field giving the signs. the blue had to ask you to move, shame shame this is your game plan? playing you on your field was also something, as long as the sun keeps shinning and your girls see the catchers shadow you got the edge.
look today you did it, you know you wanted it more then LA good job but please stop with the nonsense let the girls play the game honestly there better then what your giving them credit for!
Posted by: sgv softball fan | April 1, 2009 8:35 PM
Carlson has the nuts to call a steal to third in the 9th Great call by the coach and his speedster #19 to execute.
Bottom line caught everyone off guard.

oh come on , now you sound like walnut.
Posted by: fan | April 1, 2009 8:21 PM
LA,
Should have won in the bottom of the seventh, a lead off double coach doesn't bunt next batter fly's out followed by a k and I believe another fly out not sure the thinking here consider yourself lucky Bonita.

the batter swung away no bunt sorry dude.

she over threw the ball, she shouldve ate it,if no one was there.3rd baseman was up thinking it was abunt,so she was up.not frozen. when the catcher dropped it was that not an error? it was practically in her glove?
Posted by: sb fan | April 1, 2009 8:08 PM
sb fan,
didn't look like an error on the catcher to me I thought short stop was late covering the bag and third base was frozen both were late and didn't expect the steal the throw was on the money.

Sandoval led off the 9th with a single to left advancing to 2nd on the left fielders error{bobbling the ball} then she steals 3rd,La catcher throwing it away, Left fielder scoops it up throws it home, catcher drops the ball!!!!BONITA wins!!!
Great game to both teams LA you had to many costly errors!{2 alone by the catcher in that play} not enough hits! Way to pull it out Bonita!
Posted by: sb fan | April 1, 2009 6:44 PM
Fred,
Why do you persist on saying SD will run away with VV. That's a bold statement considering they did not run away with either of the games against Northview and Covina. They fought to pull out those wins and if they want VV it might not be the cake walk you are predicting.

bonita beat LA, 1-0 in 9 innings...
Posted by: fan2 | April 1, 2009 5:47 PM
??????
Are the Lady Bearcats overated because of where they now sit in the rankings??? If you remember not much was expected of them, and where they now sit was well earned with some wins. So I don't see why you think they are overated when they were not even expected to be in the hunt....
Great job Lady Bearcats, keep up the intensity and play hard to the end no matter the outcome.
Posted by: Basic | April 1, 2009 3:40 PM
give it up. "walnut could of won"." if walnut had hit the ball in key times". bottom line is they didnt. bonita got out of a bind in the last inning and held their lead. that is could ball playing. you can coulda woulda shoulda walnut all day long but fact of the matter is they lost. no disrespect to them, they are a good team, but they didnt choose to let bonita win, they lost.plain and simple
Posted by: fan | April 1, 2009 2:51 PM
Fred, is Diamond Bar in our area??? I just wondering, because LaRosa has better stats than Yumi. Is it because DB is not winning you chose not to mention her? Come fair is fair you should look at all the stats. Some the team stats have not been updated for 2 weeks(especially if they loose). Read the Tribune today and you are giving weekly props to players for games that were played 2 weeks ago. Come on bro, get down and do a little more research and be fair to the players whos stats are being updated by there coaches. Not bashing Yumi(great player!) but if you are looking at numbers....LaRosa is doing really well even if her team isn't.

saintgirlz4real-
I do agree with you to a certain extent..good ball players and I'm glad to see the whole team coming along and doing well..Keep it up and I'm sure you'll do good things this season.. Good luck to you girls...but I hope that LA fan and softball fan don't read your post about All Area (Tribune)..
Posted by: !!!!!!!!!!!!!! | April 1, 2009 2:03 PM
Bonita is overated! Saw them against Walnut and they should've lost. If Walnut would've hit the ball in key times they would have won. Either they are overated or Walnut is underated. Walnut left 4 runners in scoring position and just lost 3-2.

Fred-
How close do you think this game is going to be? just wondering..I think LA wins this with no problem the way there pitching and hitting and just think, I don't think there playing on all cylinders.. that's scary for the Miramonte league teams..I hope Bonita does better then last time and I'm sure there getting better.Lets see if they put in a different pitcher against LA..Cause I'm sure they'll change up there infield..

Fred, you need a correction to you info. Covina is 5-4, 3-1. That should be a pretty good match up today. I'm just wondering how good Northview really is?? They should pull it out over Covina, my guess.
