Another Nailbiter: Bonita holds on, wins 5-4 to assume control in the Miramonte League

The most unlikely hero, junior outfielder Anthony Ramos, hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning that stretched a 3-2 lead into a 5-2 cushion that gave the Bearcats the breathing room they needed to close the door on Charter Oak. With the scored tied 2-2 in the fourth, Bonita’s Jiovanni Mier was on third with two outs when Evan Highly appeared to hit a routine ground out to third to end the inning. With the Chargers running back to the dugout, it was appealed, and the home plate umpire ruled that Chargers first baseman Kenny Kissell came off the bag on a throw in the dirt, allowing Mier to score for a 3-2 lead. Two pitches later, Ramos hit the big homer, a devastating blow to the Chargers. Bonita pitcher Nico Calderaro was great. After giving up a two-run homer to Chris Allen, he led 5-4 when he got Allen to strikeout with the bases loaded in the fifth inning, then got a ground out to end the game with the tying runner on second in the seventh. Bonita is now 15-5 and 7-3 to take a half game lead over Charter Oak, 14-7, 6-3. More importantly, Bonita holds the 2-1 series advantage should they finish in a tie.
