Instead of talking about the great play by the freshmen from South Hills weren't discussing a bunch of ungrateful parents who's kids clearly tanked last year! Way to share the spot light. Go Huskies! woof woof!

Howdy folks,

Here it is in a nutshell. Leyva is not going anywhere. He knows that he is gonna have an outstanding team next year, he will be back without a doubt. He, Gross, and the rest of the staff did a great job. After the game on Friday athletes and parents hugged, cried and wished the seniors well. Parents and athletes also hugged and shook the hands of Leyva and Gross and wished them well for next year. Sure there might be one or two parents that are upset that little Johnny did not play, but that is par for HS sports. The returning athletes understand and respect Leyva. Father Travers and Carrol made the right choice and they know it. Damien stock is on the rise and everyone knows it. The bloggers that spew the trash do not have any idea what they speak of. They are the outsiders that conjure up crazy thoughts and then come here and put them in print. Do not pay them any attention for they are uninformed fools. I am signing off until fball season, when the other new addition, Gano, hits the blog. GO Gano!! So until then, count your blessings and see the good in others for it is a short time that we walk this beautiful earth. God Bless and stay healthy!!

Unrest, that's bull crap! The seniors kept that team together. Leyva bypassed Seniors to prepare for the future and the Senior parents handled it with class, unlike other parents who I won't name. You know who you are. There is no "I" in team. This is football all over again, Vasquez would have had us in the Championship for sure. Word is Vasquez might come back if Leyva leaves.

Trust me people, I dont think personally Leyva did a bad job but there was a lot of unrest just kept under wraps for a majority of the season. Its just starting to come out and I hope the program can go forward from here. There are a lot of underclass players and parents who are watching intently. We dont want to lose some of our best freshman like last year.

For all those fans out there bashing Damien parents. Did you ever think (obviously not)these people aren't actually Damien parents. They are idiots just making the actual Damien parents look bad. Sure there are probably a few unhappy Damien parents, but that's common with all schools. The fact of the matter is most parents were very happy with how our Sons played, as well as the quality of coaching they received from Leyva and Gross. A HUGE Thank You to our Son's and to Coach Leyva and Gross for an outstanding season! We look forward to many more successful years from both of you! Please don't take any of the crap from people posing as Damien parents seriously. They are a bunch of losers!

To Ken H: your the best and to all the Damien people: you will not be relevant until there is new leadership at the school and we're out of this recession. He set his pitching up wrong in the playoffs to begin with and was schooled by crespis coach. Its obvious you are leyva himself or maybe mrs leyva or maybe a leyva cronie, but quit lying to yourself. Just because they drew a weak ab miller team and a weak dos pueblos team. The only props ill give him is his win over palos verdes. But he got lucky winning that game with his #2 pitcher. Last thing, against quality opponents what was damiens record this year? Half the teams you play in hs suck. So 1-3 vs Chino, 1-2 versus glendora, lost to yucaipa preseason, lost to crespi in playoffs, beat palos verde, 2-1 versus chino hills....lets see what damien does under his watch which starts now! Hes only been a headcoach 1 other time + he ran away. We'll see how things transpire. This y;ear was vasquez' team!

Damien lost the game yesterday and have lost their integrity today coming after Leyva. Too many marginal varsity players on the team and not enough studs to win a championship yet parents complain. Didn't win league and haven't won a playoff game in five previuos years but Vasquez had high hopes, give me a break. Vasquez partied himself out of a job, and maybe you helped supply the beer. The suck up father who says Vasquez thought this might be his best team said so after how many beers? Crespi was the better team and proved it down the stretch. All the Damien teams of 2009 are finally done. Enjoy being a frustrated alumni parent. Stay away from the football team. Bye! I bet if you ask fans of most schools in the area not named Bishop Amat, Northview and Charter Oak, they would happy with a quarterfinal finish. You are right Joe, but what McGwire was using, wasn't yet on the banned list. It is now, but wasn't then. That's the problem. There's so much of these drugs, no one knows what is performance-enhancing. That's why the banned list changes from year-to-year.
But personally, I don't know why so much is made by players being caught for using the banned substances over the other forms of cheating. Is cheating that way any different than a pitcher who uses spit from beachnut gum, or cuts the ball with sandpaper?
In my view, no. Cheating is cheating. If you are going to supsend a player 50 games for using a banned substance, you should do the same for a pitcher who cuts the ball, or a batter who uses an illegal bat.
And those who asked. No, I did not graduate from Damien. I'm a Northview, Mt. SAC and Cal State Fullerton alum. And also have ties to Citrus College. I was the sports info director for eight years.

What do you mean nobody expected much out of Damien? They returned a junior who had won 9 games on the mound as a soph and a senior who was signed on scholarship to attend uc irvine, top 5 team in the nation. Thats a pretty good start. Then you add in returning bats of garcia, both ortegas, lewis and i'd say thats the makings of a pretty good team. I know vasquez thought this was going to be his best team at damien. Then travers up and fires him with 2 weeks to start the season and leyva stumbles into a great situation. Now the honeymoons over and the REAL work begins. Leyva actually got to start with the fun stuff. So to say not much was thought before this season is a ludicrous statement and undermines the great student athletes damien had on this club. Leyva and Gross actually underperformed in league play, had one nice upset even with his pitching rotation wrong, had two easy wins in playoffs then was badly outcoached and outpitched (again rotation wrong) by Crespi. These are all true facts and cannot be refuted. Oh and another thing, if you read the paper it states garcia as losing pitcher. leyva cant even get that right??? Frustrated parent

Amat might overlook San Dimas. But that will last until SD scores a run or two. Look at what happened yesterday. La Quinta takes a lead and appears in control until Amat came up again. Last year San Marino was supposed to be the real deal and Amat played them on the road and won easily. San Dimas is really good, so if Amat wins easily it will only show how much better Amat is than the other teams in the SGV.

Losing sucks but don't make it worst by knocking down your coaches, because they didn't do certain things the way (YOU) wanted them to go! It's seems easy to critize the coaches when your sitting in the stands. End the season with some class, and it's not like you lost to a slouch team. You played Crespi, and to be right in the game in the begining should mean something.

Laverne has a baseball team? Thats comical. Half their field is a parking lot, they have terrible facilities and Wintersmith is the head coach already. Im just an observer and not a Damien parent or supporter in any way. This is an impartial observation only so here goes: no matter who pitched that kid was making the Damien batters look sick today. Cant believe Leyva or Gross didnt think about squeezing when it was 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the 5th. Damien could have pulled off this upset! The coaches waited for the hit that never came. In fact Damien never got another hit in the game! Then, the coaches pulled the Lefty who was pitching great and put in a kid that Crespi lit up. And whats up with the field at Damien? Put some money into the field for gosh sakes. It wasnt terrible but looked nothing like the ftb field I walked up and looked at. That was very nice.

Damien has some good players and did some things better this year under coaches Leyba and Gross. However, I cant help but think what if Vasquez still had control of this team if they may have done even better than 8-7 in league at least. Ameriem kid pitched beautifully for vasquez and damien searched all year for effectiveness in the #2 slot behind litehouse kid. They finally found some in playoffs with garcia but what if ameriem kid has a junior seasonn like last year when he was 9-2 for damien? That woulda been a great 1-2 punch. They basically got nothing from the mound from a kid that won 9 games as soph. You dont see that often. Leyba/Gross ok in other areas. I definitely think the game coaching was better this year than in past for sure. Scott Muckey of crespi outcoached Leyba today, however. Rev will beat crespi without their ace on the mound tuesday. Rev will be in the finals, presumably against yucaipa. Can chino hills possibly when another game in the playoffs. Where was this team in the sierra?

Good season for damien, could have been better. Today if the pitching was set up correctly from the beginning should have been Whitehouse against crespis stud. damien couldve beat dos pueblos with their secondary pitching easily. Mistake by Leyva cost them best chance today. My prediction: this will be as far as damien advances under Leyva. Quarterfinals not bad, but not even the best from their own league so not that big a deal. Greatness is measured in championships. Now the Gano show rolls in and we'll see how that effects things. Trust me it will.

It looks like San Dimas pulls out a win from the jaws of defeat.

Who are the players to watch for Charter Oak?

Who cares what the O.C. Register thinks, I'm sure I have watched a lot more games around here than they have. Doesn't mean I'm right, but I have a better idea.

I picked Beckman because they're the top seed and two teams from the Pacific Coast league are still alive, the other being Corona del Mar against Los Altos. Corona also beat a very good California team and Beckman beat La Serna, which isn't easy. Just a hunch, but hope I'm wrong.

Amat does have a fence. It runs along Orange. I remember when Randy Tanner hit one mid-street dead center for about 440 home run. Parades measured it himself.
