Softball: Los Altos, San Dimas home in Tuesday's semifinals; Also time to start thinking All-Area
Extra, Extra, the Tribune is the leader in SGV sports. Sorry Mid-Valley, but this is how we roll. You want coverage, here it is.
Los Altos wins; South El Monte wins; Glendora wins; Bishop Amat loses heartbreaker; Northview bows out; Arroyo comes up short

Don't listen to me: I was 3-for-10 in softball predictions Thursday, but couldn't feel better about being wrong. If Glendora and Los Altos meet in the championship, it might be the biggest area match-up in a title game ever. Can you think of one any better? San Dimas, this is what they do, clown around until it's time to get serious, and they get serious in the playoffs. I have said for two years they have talent, and hopefully that talent takes them to a title game. South El Monte hasn't even been tested, but they will be in the semifinals against La Salle, who is very similar to the Eagles, but I Iike the Eagles to advance. Wouldn't that be something if we had area teams in three different championship games. C'mon girls, take it home from here.
All-Area -- With softball down to five area teams, it's a good time to revisit player of the year and Tribune first-team all-area candidates. You pick one POW and 11 first-teamers.

I'm stunned at how few mention Yumi's contributions for SD. Consistently on base with legitimate hits time and time again..great athlete overall and deserves way more acknowledgement for what she can and has done.

Of the 5 pitchers named only two remain for the finals, Waldusky and Clark.
Of the players named only 5 remain for the finals.
Waldusky and Clark have led their teams to this point. SD without Clark would not be in this position. Glendora without Waldusky had Arguyle to fill in.
LaRosa, Gaber, Patterson and Ramirez from Azusa did much for their teams
SD girls that got partial - full ride
Shore - UC Riverside - partial
Dopps - Pueblo Colorado - full academic
Ramirez -NSU Virginia -Full Academic & Room/Board
GL, Everybody has DL as PoY and I agree.
As I read the paper again tonight, Dopps, Shore, Ramriz, Hine in the spot light and I have Ramriz as Utl because she can pitch. So I don't understand your comment.
Dopps must be doing something right she is always in the paper including a head first slide photo last month.
I didn't see the game today, just what I hear from fans, strong team, I wish the best for them.
I will get to see them face DL this summer in Las Vegas, I belive DL is playing for Cal Lite Gold, Dopps & Ramriz are gold players as well who I have seen them face DL several times last year.
David,
How can you leave DL out of the mix?

Truth Hurts & Your kidding right!
SD was in the semifinal with the Torrance last year, as I recall 15 innings. I do believe it came down to Coaching and an error. I know both coaches from Torrance and N. Torrance and feel comfortable to say they would agree with me on most of my list.
As far as the protect swing, you will have to take that up with the coach. As I read the coach’s signals, that’s what he calls out, never said I agreed with it, let them hit and make something happen.
All of the players names that have been thrown out will play each other in the summer on Gold teams. Does not matter what Division they play for in HS, they are all top quality players therefore they stay on my list.
SM,
I don't own a Loyola hat, and I don't know why I would:)
But I will be wearing my Cal State Fullerton 'not Florida' cap...and I'm covering the Charter Oak-Beckman game
Steve will you be wearing your Loyola hat today?
What game are you covering?

Your right but Ayala is not in the sgv."
They're not? They're in the Sierra League, so I just assumed. Oops. Well, that at least narrows the choices . . .
Stevie boy
Keep those fingers and little tootsies crossed you might want to say a Hell Mary while your at it.Tesoro can play some ball and Chino Hills is not the same team as a month ago.
Fan
your kidding right protect the steal in that league. That says it all no doubt first pitch blind fold steals all the way give me break.
FAN,
ALL GOOD PLAYERS I'LL GIVE YOU THAT BUT THE VALLEY VISTA WAS THE CREAM PUFF OF ALL LEAGUES THIS YEAR SO THE NUMBERS ALTHOUGH GOOD ARE SOME WHAT MISLEADING.GREAT RUN GOING IN CIF BUT MAN TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE DIVISION WITH THE EXODUS OF ALL THE TORRANCE TEAMS FROM LAST YEAR ITS TRULY HARD TO MAKE A CASE FOR THE DIVISION.SORRY BUT ITS THE TRUTH GOOD LUCK TO YOUR GIRLS I HOPE YOU WIN IT.
Hey Fred
I know D. Patterson is an all around hard working good person and deserves great things like the MVP award.
However, I am a San Dimas fan, and based on their record this year I didn’t see the “clowning” around like last year’s slow start. A. Shore (Signed with UC Riverside) is extremely fast and has done a great job both with her slap and steals, let’s not forget S. Dopps (Signed with Col. State Unv.) has taken the most K’s this year while protecting Shore at the plate with the two swings and miss to fall behind in the count to get Shore to 3rd. S. Dopps’ has wheels along with her famous head first slide into 2nd and holds 2nd place in stolen bases. She also leads the league in PO right behind the Catcher and 1st base.
G. Ramirez has had an outstanding year as well with the game saving catch at La Canada, along with heads up base running to cross the plate while there was a play at first for the go ahead and winning run. Her batting avg. says it all and you can count on her clutch hit to make things happen. Not only does she have smart base running skills, great fielding, big bat, she can pitch!!.. Has come into the game and shut the opponent down when needed.
Clark has continued to lead SD with strong pitching with I don’t how many she strike outs she earned yesterday at Barstow. I will say her pitching has gotten stronger here at the playoffs.
Ok, this is getting long, I will have to agree with ??????? C. Hine and definitely Y. Hiroto should on the team as well.
I know all about the tradition in tournament play, and wouldn't want to jinx a possible Glendora-Los Altos final by talking about it, but just to set the record straight, it probably would be the most-anticiapated area softball final since Charter Oak beat Bishop Amat in 1993. Charter Oak went something like 27-0-1 that year and the tie was to Amat. Other all-area finals were Charter Oak over Bonita in 1979 and Workman over South Hills in 1983. The Lobos were led by 2-A co-player of the year Rhonda Wheatley, whose daughter - Courtney Gano - plays for Los Altos.

Your right but Ayala is not in the sgv.
And I just checked Max Preps, and it seems Ms. Hall can hit, too! Like big time. Dana Waldusky can also hit, but Coach Mitchell chose to "flex" her most of the time.
Agreeing mostly with GL, but Jessica Hall from Ayala sure impressed me as a pitcher.
And in the outfield, how about Sierra league-leading HR & RBI hitter Brandi Andrews?
????????
here you go
Pitcher: Patterson-Waldalsky
Infield: Gano-LaRosa-Ramirez-Venegas
Outfield: Shore-Sandaval-Contreras
Catcher: Nolan-Rodriguez

Congratulations to all the teams who won!!! Great Job, hard work sure does pay off!!! Reina Gaber was great yesterday and has broken records for South El Monte. Congratulations to them and all their hard work. Keep it up girls, lets go for the BIG WIN!!!
Fred,
I was a spectator at the Northview game thursday. I would like to make a note to the Northview team and congratulate them. This team was constantly told that they are not the team that they used to be. Well, that's true, they weren't, but they did go far and proved a lot of people wrong. The pitching that Northview faced yesterday was awesome. Courtney McGee hit every spot that she was asked to hit. But congratulations to the Northview Softball team for getting to the Quarter Finals. There's a senior on this team, Heather Harrison, who's regular position is a catcher but the coach said that they had needed a strong 1st baseman and for the team she gave up her position to a younger player on the team. And for the past several games, she has been the team's 1st baseman. This is true leadership. I've looked at stats on MaxPreps and Heather also appears to have a big bat! I would like to nominate Heather for the Utility position on the Tribune's 1st Team All Area team. Thank you Fred for covering all the games so well. This was a great season to watch. Looking forward to next seasons coverage.
Fred, always wanting some oe to help with the field work. Here is a break down as I have seen most of the players this year. I'm just giving you the general, you will have to decide who's on what team. These are just a handful of good players in the area.

The championships are always on Friday and Saturday at Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine, a great location for the championships. After Tuesday's semifinals, CIF will post the Friday and Saturday schedule on Wednesday.
First I would like to congradulate all the winners!
Secondly, it may be a dumb question but when and where and what time will the Championship be held?
Freddy, Freddy, Freddy-
I have to thank you for not picking GHS yesterday and taking the obvious choice in Oaks Christian, way to go out on a limb! You forget the run the GHS girls had last year on the road. Keep picking against them. I will still honor your dinner at the Glendora Tourney next year, seeing as scrawny you are. JK. Enjoy the rest of the playoffs and go SGV!
Fred
DLP has to be the mvp. she does more for her team than any player around, softball or baseball.she works hard.i know some will differ with me from the baseball side but in softball unlike basebal you can pitch so much more,i have been involved in softball for over 30 years now, have coached sgv player of the year 3 times but she stands out, besides her pitching and hitting she is by far the best fielding pitcher i have ever seen, and as you know great pitchers get a lot of chances on ground balls near them!
On another note, we should congradulate Ariel Shore from San Dimas tying the stolen base record with 75 this year, another hard working good kid.
La Salle's at home and I'll pick the Lancers to win. Marymount is the home team in the other Div. VI semifinals.
Great job covering all these games Freddy. You never cease to amaze me.
